I don't forgive and forget. I am neither Jesus nor do I have Alzheimer's. I earned that anger.

It's not unlike back when women had beaux and it was a societal requirement to properly court them. There was rarely ever only one man interested in one woman. Men knew there were other players on the chessboard, and that they had to step their game up if they were actually serious. I'm trying to borrow from that.

The usual shit of "well I'm a Nice Guy, you're saying you wouldn't be exclusive with me? You'd be having sex with other guys? Fucking slut" And yet I still won't fuck you, you Gollum-looking unexfoliated thumb. Lots of stuff about how my standards are too high; like, cool, meet me there then or gtfo, I'm 31 and don't have time or patience to hold your hand through this.

I just recently re-entered the dating scene (online dating, thanks COVID), and I've been making it very clear that I'm not exclusive with anyone until someone steps up and offers me a ring and a name change and that up until that point I am effectively single. The reactions have been....educational.

I got told that my standards were way too high, when I specified that in order for me to consider a man as a partner he must have good hygiene, a good career, his own place, no criminal record, be respectful, and be interested in or pursuing personal/intellectual growth through education or hobbies or whatever. Weirdly and disturbingly, the one that gets mentioned the most is the hygiene part.

I recently set up an online dating profile and specified in it that I'm single until I'm married, and that basically if they want me to be exclusive with them, they've got to either propose to me or otherwise prove to me that they're interested in the long haul. I swipe right on everyone and let them weed themselves out as we talk.

I hate "love to laugh and have fun" the most. Like, congrats? You're human and respond appropriately to entertaining stimuli?

Ex husband bought me flowers twice over the entire course of our dating and marriage, and since we had plant-loving cats I told him to google any plants he brought home beforehand to make sure they weren't toxic to cats. Know what he brought home both times? Lilies. Like I appreciated the thought, but I have to throw them out now because you couldn't do a simple thing like make sure they won't kill our pets. That was it, no other presents. Birthday or anything.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
