I'm so sorry OP.. This blew my mind to read bc I've spent the last few months saying, "I don't want to marry a man. I don't want to be in my 60's, worrying about how I compare to a 25 year-old on a screen." Your mom's situation is tragic & not what she deserves after bearing his children & taking his shit all these years. Be there for your mom. She needs to be reminded of her strengths and potential to overcome this. And recognize your father for the monster he is. Don't forget this lesson.

Also in my 20s. In my case, the cons win out. Thinking I 'needed' to be in a relationship & trynna cope with a LVM bf/the bad parts of today's dating culture turned me into a selfish, annoying jerk. I have a LOT of leveling up to do. My attachment style needs to change and I wanna grow into a more compassionate person. Can't do that if most of my mental energy outside of work is going into a crap relationship.

My former best friend was like this. She was so toxic I developed (thankfully mostly temporary) disordered eating, a desire to engage in prime pickme behavior, and a need to compete with other women. She spoke her opinions SO certainly they felt like truth. Sorry you're stuck in a situation where you can't just avoid her or dump her, like I did with said ex-best friend. All I can say is that all of this comes from deep insecurity and misogynistic indoctrination. So get annoyed, but remember her …

Having things in common, at least most of the major ones in our lives, correlates with longer-lasting relationships. And if you DO have a lot of things & common but he can't be bothered to capitalize on them to win your affection, you gotta get rid of him. My boyfriend and I don’t do anything other than 1) eating 2) drinking 3) 1 and 2 with friends or 4) Netflix... Any time we’ve done something other than what I’ve mentioned? I’m the one that planned it. Netflix is standard friendship material, …

Most journeys are nonlinear. A LOT of us temporarily improve, but relapse in a way we didn't expect to, or in a whole new and creative way. What matters is that we GET UP every time, dust ourselves off, and adopt new methods to get better if our old ones weren't working. I relate to you so much it'd take ages to write out how. Truths & advice from a recovering PickMe: If a guy is making you feel less than by hanging out with another woman, he knows deep-down that he has little to offer & has tur…

Anyone else have a 'signature move' used when blocking guys you know aren't dangerous? In my case: they say something stupid, I say "Oh, interesting," they expand on their stupidity, & the next/last message they ever get from me is, "Blokd 0:) " So silly, but it stuck in high school & has been my norm since lmao

Watched a YT vid on the gradual rise in pedophilia-normalization, particularly among pornsick men. My entire brain harmonized into thinking, "I do NOT want to have to worry about a potential partner or spouse being a secret pedo." I've only ever met ONE woman who emits pedo vibes, and she's a youtuber who manipulates followers into sticking around. The amount of pedo men I've met, however, is depressing: boyfriends, friends' fathers, teachers, classmates, etc. In college one of our married profe…

Likewise. IRL I can tune into people's body language, inflection, etc. Online, my radar turns up HARD due to potential for catfishing/lying/etc. Maybe it's a good thing, since it pushes away men who fall short of my standards. But it might be a bad thing because I misjudge when to ask the hard questions, making me come off as paranoid. Doesn't help that texts can be read as harsher than they're meant to be. I have no way of knowing whether my online dating habits have poushed HVM away, since I'v…

He Had no hobbies. At least, none worth sharing with me when asked. His life was work & internet... so presumably work, reddit (something we found out we share), porn, and the religious services that took up a whopping 3 of hours a week. Didn't talk much about himself. Everything was about the context at hand, or about me. He would describe things that were not very deep/revealing as 'personal revelations' and say, 'Wow, I really opened up.' But they were the kinda thing any friend could know?! …

"From the onset"? Uh, no. Once he proves himself? To an extent. "Easy approval" - Not what I'm interested in, though? I want a man as thoughtful and cautious as I am, someone whose approval means as much as mine. As a non-American living in the US, I was (mostly) exposed to ethnic beauties as a child. It's fascinating to discuss beauty standards with my Southern white best friend. The influencers she idolizes are merely next-door-pretty to me, and it goes both ways. There's been multiple times people told me "So & so is STUNNING," to my genuine surprise. I could only see them as passable, not captivating or eye-grabbing. And I'm sure that's how many whites feel about me, as a POC!

My mom today when she saw me a bit glum over a recent breakup: "Solterita, you need to know something. You expect a lot from the people you love. And most men aren't going to be able to meet that standard. Most of them will expect you to be cooking, cleaning, making their bed, etc. And you're not that kind of person. So you're going to encounter a lot of breakups. Many attempts will be made by men to be with you. But it's going to be a while until you find the one. So take this in stride and don…

Have heard similar tales before. Do they really think that'll make us jealous? Their lives really DO revolve around sex. (Not that such a fact needed further clarification!) With how shitty/porn-inspired most men are in bed, and how most women simply don't need sex nearly as much as men do, such attempts at making us jealous are just... sad. They don't understand women. They only understand the dick-gaze.

Some of her points are good, but those barely scrape the surface of what this sub covers. Hooboy, storytime! My ex & I were long distance for 1.5 yrs. A lil past the 1 yr mark he started taking hours to respond to messages, roll his eyes at me, and 'hangout' for weirdly long amounts of time with other 'friends' (often women). Fact: I don't know a single female he's ever been close to that he hasn't sexualized. Of course, he'd hit me with the 'Wow, can't believe you don't trust me.' I fell for it. Frustrated. Guy I liked kept taking hours to respond, so I did the same. Recently lost my phone, so I couldn't know if he'd texted. We also have an internet-based line of communication, so I messaged him there not to worry if he got no reply. The gem decides to reply with, "I won't be too heartbroken if you don't text back right away :)" Is that a neg? Or an insecure attempt at confidence? No clue. I was just being polite, dude!

A guy either wants to commit or he doesn't. Wanting to healthily commit is an intrinsic desire. What prompts that desire in a given individual is virtually impossible to pinpoint, let alone generate. What someone wants in a partner stems from their personality, values, & upbringing. If a man's young and not already a HVM he might grow into full HVM status thanks to a combination of deliberate effort, time, experience, therapy, &/or maturity - NOT bc of a single miracle woman. Psych research finds it is MUCH harder for major personality changes to occur after the age of 30. At that point, the only way they will change is IF they sincerely want to or if they endure trauma. The process takes years and FEW people ever succeed at it. Never date a man's potential. Never trust any…

Most women prefer physical intimacy with people they know and trust. Hook up culture, which does not require trust or familiarity, is the default for men. Liberal feminism normalizes hook up culture and considers anything else fringe. Therefore, per liberal feminism, to be 'normal' is to approach sex like men do. How most women feel about sex gets labeled as 'demisexuality.' They portray it as a variation from the norm. Interesting that a 'feminist' movement would reduce normal sexuality to the …

It's a bit of a classist statement. Plus it depends on how you define love. What I like about that sentiment is that it's practical. It brushes off infatuation, which frequently gets romanticized on TV. Needless to say, we must be sure to marry someone we like. I've learned from experience that I can't even be long term friends with someone I don't admire. Whoever is in my life must in some way be challenging me to grow, and vice versa!

Psychology studies have measured stress per life event, and having children is one of the top ones but far from alone. According to the Life Change Index Scale as available from Dartmouth, top lifetime stressors include divorce, marital separation, death of a spouse, death of a family member, and serving jail time. These are all considered, on average, higher stressors than gaining a new family member a…

Men always want to chase. They love to chase what it seems they can't have. I was recently also in a similar situation. A former friend of mine liked a guy. I tried to share FDS principles with her, but she shot them down as 'unfair.' She started going on coffee dates with him (dutch), asking him out, talking about him, etc. He ultimately wasn't interested. I, on the other hand, ignored him because of his LVM stench. He quickly expressed interest in me and my former friend then showed her true c…

He said that I scare him. Common. It's a way of turning the blame on you. "You make me feel scared, that's why I've been so shitty and avoidant." No. It's not because you scare him. He likes to keep you at a distance because it forces you to chase him. Makes you feel like you're being rejected, so that when he talks to you again you subconsciously feel validated. Oldest trick in the book. It gives you, the victim, a short-lived validation high. It feels like a lot more than it is, I would know. …

My classmate (and former friend) is like this. She has a bf but desperately wants to sleep with a guy the ladies in our program swoon over. He's engaged, a pathological liar, a jerk, and expressed interest in me... I didn't even bother acknowledging it. Soon as she found out she threw me under the bus, spewing whatever nonsense she could come up with. She's a centralist like me but around him she's super conservative. To clear things up: Whether a man is HV does NOT become depend on the woman. Which is why I was careful to say, "starts exhibiting HVM behaviors for the next girl" rather than "Becomes a HVM for the next girl." If a guy treated you terribly but seems to treat the next girl well, he is most likely not a HVM. He just knows how to play one. If he's young and not already a HVM he might grow into full HVM status thanks to a combination of deliberate effort, time, experience, therapy, &/or maturity - …

You should seduce through your demeanor and speech— only a select few should ever be lucky enough to see your 'goods.' Your time, attention, and body are the prize!! - When asked …

purposely implying a man's only value is in how useful he can be to a woman I understand why the question might appear loaded. I don't think she meant to say men have no worth other than how they can serve women, so much as ask what you believe men's utility is to women.

As an FDSer I agree with the gist of what you're saying, which is that every woman will get something different from men, if anything (not all women will get anything out of dating a man, e.g. no lesbian would want to marry one). Some women may prefer heterosexual sex to masturbation. Women may prefer masturbation for certain things & heterosexual sex for others, etc.

Queen sh*t is anything through which you demonstrate powerful self-love. You're a Queen to us ♥

I'm fascinated by how he perceives FDS to be about gold digging. This sub allows gold digging, officially, sure. But has he browsed through this sub? It's all about women making sure they aren't used, laying down boundaries, bettering themselves, venting, shitting on men some, etc. His reaction just doesn't make sense. It's disproportionately about money when this sub is not actually about that. The 'gold digging' here is pretty much tangential, AKA only mentioned in passing SOMEtimes

I'd LOVE to read an article about how courting has changed over time

Oh man, that was probably half of my conversation-starting texts near the end of my last relationship. Gee, I wonder why I had to end it /s

In my experience [some, probably] guys love a girl in pain. Some of them get off on it sexually. Some of them enjoy it in that 'sadness is beautiful' kind of way. "She's broken but so beautiful." You mean like every goddamn person on this planet ? Worst of all, in my opinion, is when they get off on rescuing you from said pain. "She needs me," "I make her feel whole again," "I'm so gallant," "Let me heal you." Now, don't get me wrong— I appreciate a guy's shoulder to lean on or a gentleman's rea…

Aaand I'm a virgin. Reason #1929384848848484 I'm glad I broke up with him & can now call him an ex

My ex did this to me once. An acquaintance of his, let's call her Meghan, came over to say hello and introduce herself. She brought a friend over as she did so. My ex proceeds to mention that Meghan has a long distance boyfriend and she plays piano... and then about how her torso and her legs look like they belong to two different people. He went off on how big her ass is and how it contrasts the top half of her body, which is smaller. He basically went on a tangent, complete with motions and so…

I admit I did not know about Eartha Kitt before this video. But I must say, in those few minutes she got me to fall in love with her. Radical self-love is magnetic. It is endearing. Love yourself and those clever enough to appreciate it will follow ♥

Honestly. As if the whole message wasn't already a massive red flag 😂 those two words clarify how he sees women who play along: objects.

This got downvotes but I kinda agree? The key word is 'too' — don't love anyone so much that you lose yourself.

I don't know any and am also interestedin knowing. For now you can recommend that she watch the Mexican film 'Soltera' on Netflix, it is in Spanish and FDS approved :)

Damn. An ex I've recently been pining over said this to me several times. And then I was surprised when he dumped me for no longer wanting to play his long distance camgirl? Something so obvious and yet it didn't click until you put it so bluntly. Thank you!

Awww, I'm glad! And yeah, give it time. He might surprise you, he might not. Either way, sounds like you have a good support system! Best of luck girl :)

Another newbie with questions here. How does one become an FDS Disciple? What does the 'on pickme probation' flair mean?

Several thoughts. Leaving to talk on the phone for thirty minutes? He demonstrated that whoever he was talking to was of higher priority to him than the double date with you & your family member. You have to either communicate this OR dump him. Leaving him confused makes you look like an a-hole when he's the one that misbehaved Why did you offer to pay? I'm just curious, since the FDS approach highly emphasizes that guys should always be the ones to pay The fb tags thing is kinda weird. Does he …

I always thought something was wrong with ME too. TV had taught me that all a guy had to do was shove his dick into me and I would instantly be grateful and excited. In retrospect, I needed to better communicate. We dated for 2 years and I never came, not even ONCE. But I made him think he had. I thought he would leave me otherwise. One time I implied the sex had been subpar and his response was, "If I found out you hadn't enjoyed it this whole time I'd be heartbroken. I would feel lied to." And…

Whenever my ex did this I assumed it was because he was hooked on tumblr GIF porn, something he'd confessed to me before (what a red flag lol). He wouldn't let me hold ANY sexual position for more than a minute.

The gateway to reciprocal emotional connection is him unloading his anger and pain on you and you nursing him back to calm and happiness Didn't even realize I'd learned this until you mentioned it. Shit. The worst thing you can do is “scare him away” As someone recovering from the pickme mindset this hits home. My own: Guys want a girl who says no when she means yes People belong to neat types (the nerdy girl, the sporty girl, the emo girl, the cutesie girl, etc.) and if I don't fit one of these…

Really good film, great message. Some great points - though I think it's good to dress however you like so long as it looks good & feels like you. (Eg: Even after the course Ana wasn't constantly wearing dresses just to be feminine kinda thing. ) I say this as a dress/skirt lover and pants hater.
