Totally would be the opposite to my reaction. A little too forward for my taste!

I'm glad I'm on my receptiveness! I definitely now realize the difference between approaching and receptiveness. A year ago or so, I probably wouldn't have realized the difference!

I do like this idea! Simple! A bit more my style than saying "you're cute"

UGh! I knew right after I returned to reading that it was the wrong move. At least now I know what to do if it ever happens again! :)

I instantly knew that's what I should have done. At least I had the right idea down. Just have to put it into motion next time!

I'm planning on it! Even if I don't see him again, it is a great way to get out in the community - even if I just do work - it would be good to get into a studying routine.

I might start making it a weekly event!

How do you use the apple cider vinegar? I've used it as a toner before- never as a supplement!

I'm starting to think this is my best bet!

I've also considered social drinking- at least for a bit. I generally don't get anything more out of drinking alcohol than I would non-alcohol. Would you give up all alcohol?

I also like the starbucks idea! I'm contemplating monk mode for a bit at the start of this year, but when I start looking, you inspired me to hang out on my campus more (currently going to grad school part time).

Thanks for the quick reply! How long were you in monk mode? Or are you still? If so, when did you start?

Hi! It sounds little, but I've been trying to make eye contact and smile or say hi when I walk past people at work in the hallway. It's a tiny baby step, but I'm hoping it will make me more comfortable looking approachable and smiling when I am with strangers and out in public. Looking through more of your replies, we Definitely have a lot of the same problems! I fall for guys that I'm friendly with, but I never know how to show interest in being more than just friends!

"Focus less on finding the one and more on being the one." I have always been a fan of self improvement- one of the reasons I love this site, but this sentence really stood out to me. Thanks for sharing.

I don't have much advice for you as I am in a very similar situation. I've only had one serious relationship. Through a lot of introspection and research on this site, I've realized it's because I come off as too "friendly" and have a wall up. This doesn't help much, but I wanted to let you know what I have discovered. If you ever want to chat/share advice, send me a message!

Can't believe I even considered approaching asking him! I'm still learning!

Perfect! I've been reading about the idea of "mirroring" in relationships and dating. This is spot on. Thanks.

Yes yes, this is the most reasonable. I'm feeling kind of awkward for even posting my question. Was just a silly thought but wanted to get other opinions so I didn't "what if".

Also, maybe writing that post was good just to get it out. I'm feeling embarrassed for even considering the idea!

Thanks! The logical part of me knows you're right. I'm sure what I'm feeling right now is just a case of hopeful, naive thinking. If he ever moves back and we are both single, we would probably try again though.

Edit: part about the family didn't specifically include me, but it seemed like an important part of our conversation.

Oh gosh, I've had dating situations where I've made the mistake of pursuing him more than he pursued me, so I'm very hesitant to ask someone out. Thanks for the input though!!

Definitely going to start practicing in the mirror. Today I tried to do a small closed lip smile and make eye contact to everyone I pass in the halls at work!

Yes, yes! I worry sometimes that I'll look too "uptight" if I pull my shoulders back and have nice posture. I know I should start being more aware of it though. Thanks!

Thanks so much. I really am going to follow through with this advice: "start telling yourself that he likes you until he gives you a reason to think otherwise."

Your post resonated the most with me. I definitely think I look feminine, but I have been told I have a blank look on my face a lot (people think I'm confused!). Today, I tried smiling at everyone I passed on the sidewalk and in the office. I figured that will be a safe place to practice! You're also right- I don't often meet new men. I've been pondering joining a running club or a rock climbing gym. Perhaps I should do both. I'm definitely not meeting very many single men in my age category in …

This makes it sound so easy! Everytime I get nervous I should just default to smiling!

I currently work full-time and go to school one night a week. I'm fairly active and go to places like yoga studios, out to coffee shops for lunch, dinner and pubs with friends, running in city parks

Sailing, yoga, running, reading, scrapbooking, boldering (new hobby, still trying it out!)

I certainly will inbox you if any more questions pop up. Still a little hesitant about online dating (for the reasons you listed!). Headed off for the night, but thank you!

Thanks for the reply! Right now, I'm actually having trouble even finding dates! I think it's because I immediately close up if I'm not initially attracted to someone.

Thanks! I've been nervous to reach out to friends about setting me up. I always say it in a joking manner. What are your thoughts on online dating?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
