Is this just your canned response? The guy is literally only talking about breaking the arrangement to keep his child alive… being less available for your child in distress is not the way to be. But as for taking your time for yourself. Yes, please don’t feel guilty there. When you have your actual time and you’re not being a hero for your daughter, please enjoy your time. We all need a mental unload. It’s all still raw and fresh. Don’t worry about hitting the end goal or finding yourself yet. Y…

I saw you’ve been together for 13 years and married 6. We also were together for 13 years and married almost 7. My wife’s affair partner was very obvious. I suspected an emotional connection already but found evidence of an affair. He’s married too any probably will never leave his wife. He is toxic and my STBXW knows it. I don’t really care what she does. I just want my kids shielded from her shit.

I didn’t beg or plead. My wife and I never really fought about money or serious issues. We have two young kids. She said she felt like we were roommates more than a couple. Not sure I could argue. She told me a year ago she wasn’t happy. I tried to listen to what she highlighted and work on anything. Thought we were making progress but she still said she was unhappy. So a couple months ago I asked if she wanted a divorce and she said yes. Honestly, I was relieved. I still hate the idea, but I sp…

I'm so sorry to hear that. It sounds like you got back on your feet and that's great! Keep staying strong and keep fighting the good fight for your kids. Be the best version of yourself and I wish you luck!

Not really sure what you're on about here. I have let her go. I'm not worried about her. Right now we still live together as we are not officially separated (will be soon). She doesn't know I know about the affair partner. My only "frustration" was that she chose to lie about going to a meeting to go off with the affair partner and skip the family birthday celebration for our youngest we'd been planning on having for a week or so. She even acts like "at least she'll get to see her in the morning…

I’m not really expecting her to be honest. There is too much for me to ever trust her again. Just more of a little “get it off my chest” annoyance that of all the days she wants to be with her affair partner she couldn’t pick one that isn’t our daughter’s bday. Looking forward to just being past all this.

It’s kind of weird because things on the surface look so normal. But I know at night she disappears into her room and spends hours on the phone with the guy. I have my moments where i almost say something, but I hold back because it’s not quite the time.

Hey man, it is tough. There is no magic tonic. You have to focus on being smart and not doing anything rash. I've known for a year a divorce was probably coming with my STBXW. We finally had the talk and planned it amicably. It hurt a lot seeing my family torn apart. Now I've stumbled onto evidence of an affair. I don't know how long the physical part has been going on, but the emotional part is definitely prior to her and I talking. This has been a co-worker that she's talked about a ton over t…

What is this pseudoscience?

This probably is the wrong sub for this, but I think you’re going to get a lot of bias looks because this is a sub about men going through divorce and extrapolating their own feelings and experiences on the greater whole. People and genders are not monoliths. There is no simple “women are always like this” or “men are always like that.” There are plenty of men and women who do the exact same harmful things in relationships and cause them to end.

Yeah you basically echo everything I feel or am worried about. There is the terrible judgement and fears of escalation and access. My STBXW and I are fairly left wing politics and she describes her affair partner as far right herself. He will literally pick fights with her about politics. Like not things she expresses, but the straw men he perceives and lashes out to her about. But with everything here, basically anything less than full custody is a loss. Knowing neither of us can afford divorce…

What bothers me is not feeling secure that they are safe. My STBXW used my daughter’s underwear as a gag in a BDSM encounter with a random person for the sexual benefit of her and her affair partner. She also took some photos in the living room where she is stealthily playing with herself and using a wide angle photo to show the kids are in the room. I know she loves the kids, but like, who does that? Why? She is still angling for her affair partner to potentially leave his wife and come stay at…

I actually would prefer a good 50/50 split. My concern is that the indirect kid involvement involves some sexual stuff. Like using one’s underwear as a prop.

Maybe this isn’t easy to hear, but if she wasn’t providing affection when things were good AND secretly amassed 50K in debt, you’re probably better off. Just try not to let your defeat and bitterness cloud whatever process you need to go through to move on. Too many men lose themselves in that. We can only control what we can control. And we can always work on ourselves and find new joy. Time heals wounds.

I don’t mean to make it sound easy. It’s not. I think most of my grieving was done more than a year ago. I thought we were doing well and going through the grind and routine of raising two young kids. We didn’t do enough together, but we weren’t actively dismissing opportunities. When she told me originally that she wasn’t happy, I was blindsided because we seemed to have been doing well. We talked about things, mostly small things, to try to turn it around. I thought we were making really good …

It can be tough man. I'm a few months out on being told it is done. I focus on me and I focus on my kids. There is really nothing you can do. You can't force someone to want to reconcile. You don't want to make the situation any more awkward or bad for your kids. Try to be the best you, accept reality, and make your plans for the future. Try to keep things as amicable and fair as possible.

I also discover that CoPilot is really good at answering a lot of common questions. Mostly about how I feel and why. What sort of attachment I had with my wife. Why I react the way I do. Please be very careful with this. AI is known to be very affirmative in its responses and will tell you what you want to hear or how you are prompting it. This can lead to some bad places.

This assumes both parties are reasonable and want the same things. My future ex wants 50/50 custody and to figure out what share of the house she is entitled to down the road. This would be fine, but I stumbled on some evidence of things that might make me want full custody. Don’t think we are talking through that easily.

My dude, please do not feed your details into ChatGPT and take what it says to mean anything. These things are known to be overly affirming to you and can lead down some really weird paths. There is a reason why it is spot on to how you were feeling. And it will continue to be. I'm sorry you had a bad session.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
