The idea simplified is ‘be attractive don’t be unattractive.’ So if something serious is happening like a dog bite, an attractive response would be to stay calm and help lead / maintain control in helping to resolve the situation. Unattractive would be to give into weak emotions and ask your girl ‘what should we do’ or freak out/get rattled.

“It’s my body.” “And when shit hits the fan, it’s my problem. There are better options that get the same outcome. You’re not doing it.” “Yes I am, blah blah blah.” STFU Hold frame. A few days later . . . “Baby, I’ve been thinking about our conversation the other day. I know you don’t like it but listen to me, I want to still do the (thing that endangers our child).” “I understand. You want to do it because of x, right?” “Right.” “What are the possible implications of the procedure?” “Blah blah b…

Holding frame is when you don't unintentionally let another person's emotional state change your current emotional state. If I'm happy and someone walks past me and says 'get out of my way'. Holding frame would be me being 100% in control and decisive over my response. Losing frame would be letting my emotional reaction dictate what I do in the situation. Holding frame is conscious and responsive. Losing frame is unconscious and reactionary.

Cheers, I appreciate the response. I've read most of Mark Manson, great author, especially his talk on vulnerability. Here's what I don't get. If I want her to do what I like and want to punish when she doesn't follow protocol . . . How do I do that without complaining? (essentially breaking frame) I know withdrawing attention is recommended, but it doesn't make sense to use it for everything. Example: I want her to send me a picture of her ass while I'm away at work each day. Day 1 she sends it…

Buy a mirror. It’s cheaper than an internet connection

Tell me something I don't know. This story could only be worse if I was a eunuch.

Ask MRP is all about keeping our cool, not being angry, and holding a positive frame. Why would I take advice from you when you can't even keep your cool on an internet forum?

Sounds good

I see what you mean. The cause of the fight was actually the mistakes I'd previously made and the complaining I did about her not picking up her phone in the supermarket. All of those little mistakes put her in a bad mood which she then used the budgeting exercise to express.

This is exactly what we do every time. It's what allows us to travel, buy whatever we want, invest more into our businesses. It works. Some guys would probably be too scared from the backlash/judgement to even try set up a behaviour like this.

Fair comment. I want to improve my own behaviours, but yeah the result was same as if I'd done everything correctly --except for the time wasted/invested in the problem

Makes sense. What can I focus on doing instead? I'm doing my best to STFU at the moment.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
