Porn is in no way or circumstance healthy or normal. I'm sorry that the culture has convinced SO many people of its benefits. It's exploitative, for one two and three. And it hijacks the brain! We were not meant to see the naked bodies of all of these random people engaging in sexual acts! No, no, no! And I'm not being prudish... it's one thing to see people at a nude beach. Whatever. But to see them engaged sexually.... and have access to this footage for 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, being able…

I don't like clubbing generally anymore. Too much sexual energy that leads to bad things imo. I'm not interested in short term anything, sexual trysts included. I'm good on it!

it's the culture. suddenly up is down and left is right. A lot of the "feelings" that people have aren't real, it's just social contagion. extremely disturbing and bizarre.

I just want to tell you that you are alone. In this current climate of promiscuity, it is nOT easy for us modest women to find men. Porn isn't helping either because men continue to have their brains fried by such blatant sexuality that their grandfathers and THEIR grandfathers could have only dreamed of witnessing in their own lifetime. On average, those men would have seen maybe 1-3 naked women. In ONE LIFETIME. So, we are really really fighting an uphill battle here. Also, men and women have …

This is such a great comment, thank you so much for this. I have come to the conclusion that he is just reserved. He is very affectionate with me in private and loves to hug me and hold me close, I have just never been with someone THIS reserved so I have to adjust but it will take time. I also think there is a good possibility that in time, we could work up to some light affection in public. I would love to be able to touch his arm. We do stand near each other in public, sometimes brush past ea…

I'm not sure, I think it's too early for that kind of desire. Maybe much later on he would want that. He is okay with it. I am very spiritual myself so he appreciates it a lot, even if we don't share the same religion.

Yes, totally different backgrounds I am American, Christian (Catholic) and black. Dysfunctional childhood but have done a lot of work. I am intuitive, empathetic, silly, introverted, diligent and transparent. I am also very expressive verbally. He is Nigerian and Muslim. Comes from a two parent household, although his dad now seems to be a rolling stone. Both parents polygamous, to which he has no interest in mirroring. He is an extremely hard worker, dedicated and consistent. Respectful. Honest…

Great advice, thanks for this. This is what I'm going to do. Just chill for a sec and let time do its thing. We will continue to work on communicating with each other. It's not going to be smooth for a while, I reckon.

It is but he is from Nigeria, idk if anyone knows about Nigerians??? I'm trying to get a handle on how he sees things but it's like we come from such different places because I was born in the USA but he immigrated. Speaks perfect English and is aware of American customs but relationship wise, I am trying to get on the same page. To be fair, it's only been a month, like someone else said. I should maybe relax a bit and let it unfold, continue to work on open communication..

I can't speak for anything else but I don't think it's necessarily bad to have not been intimate at this point. I think the culture confuses us in this way but I actually prefer men that don't want to be intimate early on, or even not until a serious engagement leading to marriage. It's not wise, to be honest. So, I would rule that one out as a concern, personally. That's a green flag, in my eyes!

Well, to everyone that said it would be hard to come back from, you were right. Not for me of course because I never wanted it. I was pressured from the first night that he was pulling and tugging on me to kiss him. It's hard for him to not want that with me now, and he "sees sex as an important way to consummate a relationship (which we aren't even in btw.) It's been 2.5 weeks. I barely know him! I don't know him enough to really trust him with my body. The first times it happened, I really did…

I really, really, really felt this. I actually HAVE been quite promiscuous and dealing with those feelings IS hard. We have to give ourselves mercy, though. We did not know any better. We are human, first and foremost. But i worry too about men being put off by my past. To be honest, I have been put off by their pasts as well.... I don't think promiscuity in men is any better! But anyway, the man that truly matters and is right will not focus on our past. I fully believe that. It is still our re…

I just think it's a bit unfair though because each time, he has seduced me. I never once initiated with him. He has pulled me in to him or thrown me over his shoulder or changed and not worn pants and then pulled me over and I think because of my past, I am still learning how to say no and be firm. I don't always respond effectively when I am in situations like this, I sometimes freeze and go along. Not EVERY time though, but after I have repeatedly said why aren't you wearing pants, are you goi…

Yep, I think only time will tell. We did discuss it and agreed to only meet out publicly, he understood my reasoning, as he did before, but we really have to see if we are capable of holding the line. When not actively provoked, I have NO issue remaining to myself physically. I don't initiate with him. But I think you are right, I think he's been a bit pushy. If other people read my response to you, maybe they would be so harsh! I don't feel like a bad person and I don't think he is either but h…

I have! I said this multiple times but I am still working on being firm on my no's. It's not like he was totally unaware. We have discussed this many times. But I made myself vulnerable by going to his house and in the evening in particular. We both were tempted and gave in, but it was more important to me to not do that. He is perfectly fine being physical this soon, I am not.

Beautiful response, thank you. I really like what you said here. Sexual desire IS normal, and I said that to him, I needed to clarify that there was nothing wrong with our desire for each other. But deciding what we do with it is another story. I really need to feel respect and care and commitment before I really, truly open up. The first night we had sex wasnt enjoyable and he could sense that and I reminded him that THIS is why I don't do that! He wanted me to orgasm, he did twice, I didn't an…

I think for me it's both, though. It's both, and. It is restrictive, and I think the wisest thing for me would be to wait until marriage. However, I sometimes am doubtful of that path and am more likely to wait until I at least feel a strong connection. I don't feel that currently with him as we haven't been pursuing each other for that long.

I want a serious relationship with someone who cares about me and cares that I value this way of being. I do want to be respected, as much as I want to respect that person. I do want to feel control, I want to be able to mitigate risks as much as possible. I want to make wise decisions, I want all of these things... I just spoke with him and we agreed to not be alone together and to go on dates and when we can't meet for some reason, we will postpone it. That last point is interesting... that …

I agree. I think maybe he agrees just to sort of calm me but I don't think he wants what I want. As I just responded to a post above, he continues to tempt and seduce me despite me being clear about what I don't want. In the past, sex has been a bargaining tool for me to get love and that is a hard thing for me to shake as you can see. I have been in therapy for a long time but do not currently have a therapist and am seeking one. Thank you!

It's not that I don't enjoy sex, it's that I don't enjoy it nearly as much when it lacks care and emotional commitment. And he can tell. He was quite frustrated with my lack of enthusiasm the first go round and I reminded him that this is why I don't engage in casual sex anymore because I can't really get into it. It feels empty to me. I definitely have a hard time saying no and I am working on this. I also want to defend myself though and say that there were multiple times that I indicated that…

Thank you, I am also considering this possibility as well, that ultimately he may not be the right man to take on this journey with me. He is Muslim too, so I find it particularly interesting that he has no real qualms with sex before marriage even though I did and am currently converting to Catholicism. I am really considering this and will talk with him about this.

I agree! My actions don't match and that's what concerns me and makes me sad. It's not that having sex isn't okay. I want to clarify this! There is nothing wrong with sex. But for me, sex must be in the right context. It takes a lot for me to trust and generally, Casual sex is not pleasurable for me when it lacks feelings, care, commitment etc. Sex also makes it harder for me to recognize and respond to red flags. So, for me, it's a form of self protection and allows me to make wiser decisions. …

Brilliant response, thank you for being so thoughtful. I agree with all of your general guidelines! As I said, I think the biggest misstep I have made was to accept his invitation into his home. That opened the door to what occurred, ultimately. At this point in time, I think it is dangerous to be alone with a man. And not for violence sake, but because we are human beings and we have far less control over fleshly temptations than we THINK we do. I am really working on fleshing out the "why" of …

Because sex, without feelings, is not something I enjoy. I think subconsciously, it happens as a sort of bargaining tool for love and commitment but it's never worked out that way for me which is why I generally avoid it. It's empty, to me.

I could definitely see this perspective, for sure. It wasn't my intention however, so I was disappointed is all. But the road to hell is paved with good intentions, eh? And I completely agree with what you are saying. I expected a lot and I wasn't really being fair to the audience, I think. But on the other hand, I don't think that I was blaming young women so much as I was trying to introduce a different perspective but either way, it certainly fell on deaf ears! In part maybe due to my deliver…

I didnt comment there TO bring it here. I was so baffled by all of it that after I was banned, I decided to post here because I thought it was ludicrous to be banned on the grounds of two comments, neither of which were aggressive or harassing or anything! One was literally, this viewpoint is extreme. Is that worth a ban in your eyes? I wanted to feel like I wasn't crazy, I was seeking validation in that because I thought it was, well extreme.

Well, to defend myself I was a member still at the time and genuinely agree with some of what they discuss. I didn't go to pick a fight. That is silly. I saw the post, was curious, watched the video and then was kind of blown away by how extreme the comments were getting. My aim was to bring a little balanced thinking to the mix, to stoke a conversation. Because imo, if you just leave well enough alone... how do you expect there to be any balanced conversation? I wasn't going to be a devil's adv…

I am sorry that you were banned but I am so thankful that you told the truth! We need more truth tellers. Even when we get punished for it. Someone has to wake these silly people up because it's like they are all currently in some kind of Dreamland that I feel like some of us have been effectively locked out of and we are desperately trying to warn them to wake up before their descent becomes permanent!

I agree with all of this. I find the last scenario particularly striking. In my eyes, men get the message that, well, "we already live together so isn't that enough?" And no, it's not. I want commitment. The full package. I, in no way shape or form am giving in before I get what EYE want. He wants the privilege of sex and living together and doing couple things, then make it official and put a ring on it! Until then, I am content to wait for those things. In my experience, we give in a bit and m…

This attitude is what gives me pause. You have a fear here that is causing you to settle. In the long run, I do not think that you will respect this man. You are 36 and worried about your future, understandably... I'm sorry that things haven't worked out for you this far. I worry about these things myself and I am 29. But there are also things that I just won't settle for or put up with even despite my ticking clock. I will not be with another Uber submissive man. I will not be with someone that…

Can confirm. I was with a man just like this. Pretty submissive, extremely sweet and funny and happy to let me lead, even sexually. But eventually it gets really old and boring because what I want deep down in my heart of hearts really is to be led. I still want a man who is sweet and funny but I need someone that is dominant. Not in a mean way but in a self-assured and courageous way. My ex lacked courage, he lacked bravery and I see that now. He has been parentified by his single mother for a …

I hear that but I also think that it worked out for you in spite of the fact. It really isn't a good idea for most people if what they are seeking is a long-lasting healthy relationship that isn't marred by possible ill effects of cohabitating.

I'm going to have to agree with you here. My first response to this was of anxiety because doing overnights with a man who is not fully committed to you, like marriage committed, is just not a good idea. I know that it's tempting and I can say that because I've been there and done it billions of times but I'm telling you that the likelihood of this working out will almost certainly be affected by doing something so intimate like this so early on. I don't mean to be a buzz kill but I really hope …

i think I would agree with this. i am also thinking to myself.... the true wisdom in waiting to have sex with someone is that you build a sexual relationship based on trust and true intimacy. then any of these issues can be worked on with love and patience. and sex ends up feeling much better. and this is coming from a woman that has been promiscuous and ABSOLUTELY has issues with pair bonding. i dont know how to fix it either BUT i have committed to not having sexual relations with a man until …
