Actually, women used to pay more for health insurance because they incur more expenses. IIRC it was banned by the ACA, ie men now pay more for women can pay less. No change in car insurance. The ACA also requires that insurance cover all female contraceptives, but specifically excludes male contraception (condoms and vasectomy), even though condoms are literally the only contraceptive that prevents the spread of disease...

It has nothing to do with patriarchy. It is essential to have a son because in Chinese culture it's a son's job to take care of his parents as they age. That's a burden that society places on men, not power. Put that together with a one-child policy and couples whose first/only child is a girl are fucked. They could easily have dealt with it by shifting some of the burden to daughters, but society prefers to coddle women.

Personally I think "modern equal roles" just don't work as well. If you have young children it just makes way more sense for one parent to stay home. Plus research shows what tends to happen is men take on more childcare and housework while still working 40+ because women don't use their extra hours to work more. It used to be common knowledge. Images of women beating their husbands with rolling pins or frying pans were widespread before feminists and people taught by feminists took over. Part of feminist dogma is that women literally cannot do domestic violence. Anything they do to their men is justified as a reaction to his violence against her.
