Do it now. The longer you wait, the more alimony you will pay depending on the state you are in. She is probably waiting too, but planning to take as much as she can. The kids will adjust and may be happier. It is hard on them to have a split household, but I think they appreciate the difference. My son often remarks how much calmer my house is than his mother's. You will be happier and develop a better relationship with them.

Agreed, but you also want to know what you did wrong or could have done better to not get bitten again. It's about coming to terms with the fact that you can only control yourself and how you react to things in this life. Everyone is a possible snake. Be careful with who you trust and how much you risk trusting them in the future. It's the frog and the scorpion parable.

This sounds like my exact experience. I suggest filing for divorce. The longer that you stay, the worse it will be for everyone and your finances. Life may be harder for a year or two, but it gets better. If you convince her to participate in the marriage and be a better partner, that could help for a little while, buy there is nothing that will stop her from leaving in a few more years and taking even more.

File for divorce. The sooner the better. This sounds exactly like my situation. I stayed as long as I could for the kids. She was taking everything from me during the marriage and tried the same in the divorce. I am so thankful that I got out after 12 years with only 4 years of alimony. She could have been kinder to me and tricked me into staying longer only to divorce me after +20 years and take even more.

All of the money and fighting for the kids really got to me. I eventually won 50/50 custody, but she got alimony for 4 years, 55/45 split of assets, and child support without consideration of my 50% time. It could have been worse and it is much better without her. It's the cost of doing business. This is what my marriage/kids cost. It was a 20 year deferred cost, but it is what it is. Living well is the best revenge. Be stoic. Only think about things that you can control- which is yourself and y…

I feel like that sometimes. It hits me in the grocery store going through the aisles and especially when I see a loving/functional family or couple. Music helps me sometimes, especially early in the divorce process. The song "Dancing in the dark" by Bruce Springsteen has an inspirational line that goes something like "There's a joke/ it's wild and it's on me/a shake this world off my shoulder/ come on baby the laughs on me." Bob Seger also has some great songs that relate.

My STBXW would yell and berate me. I'd ask her not to and she would say "then stop making me mad!" Of course she couldn't identify what was upsetting her and would go ballistic over nothing. When she filed, she accused me of being "hostile ". As the process unfolds, I'm starting to wonder if she believes that or it is a strategy to always keep me on the defense with every outrageous thing that she does.

I had all of the above suggestions and it still ended in divorce. She became very depressed after our first child and it never really ended. She blamed me for her unhappiness. She said that I was too stressful for her to work. I had to take care of the kids after work and weekends. She contributed only basic care to the kids. Basically everything changed after we had children. She had all of the leverage. Look into her parents relationship. My ex's parents are very toxic. Her mom is verbally abu…
