At no point, (I think, it's pretty late here), did I say that women should get paid more money for doing less work. Although I do believe in a child benefits system, on the basis that, raising the future generation should still be validated as a role in society. Equality is about being given the same opportunities as men should we choose to work hard enough to get them.

What possible reason is there, for women not to have the vote and a say in how their country is run, that is ok? I think perhaps we are too different minded to have much more than an argument on this one, which I'm really not interested in. I came here solely to profess my distaste and sympathy for a man who encountered horrible people, which he did not deserve. I don't think there is much more to argue with someone who thinks a woman's role is in the kitchen and in the bed. Since that is what our allocated jobs were back then. I understand your fury at some of the things that were done but I don't think you grasp quite what prompted the movement.

Also your article mentions her hand in women's conscription into national service... So actually she was just fighting for national service all round but women weren't technically allowed on the front line.

The women's rights movement was important for women, whether you like it or not. Perhaps the methods used were not all great and yes, they could possibly have done things differently. However, in a world where women were treated like second class citizens, I guess they had to fight a little harder to be heard. Today's feminists in western society have very little to fight for by comparison, which is why I can see a distinction.

Trying to make the point that someone else has made that you can't tar everyone with the same brush. Feminists are not all horrible people. I just think its worth noting that these people are not so much feminists as they are horrible people.

Yes I do agree with you on this. I think some feminists could really do with realising that, pretty much all of the fight in western countries is over. Perhaps they could direct their energies to places where women still need help.

Well the original movement in the UK (where I'm from), so called suffragette movement, was about women getting equal rights to vote. So that is where I am getting confused, clearly.

It's true sadly and there is a vast difference between wanting equal pay and the same rights and denying that men could ever be raped by a woman.. I don't even know how this came about really..

I dunno, I always thought feminism was supposed to be about equality. I think these people could well call themselves feminists but I think the main problem is that they're assholes, not that they think women should get a fair chance.
