CA Dude here too, I was married and in a similar situation. In my case, my ex took me to court every year for 5 years to increase child support, as my career continued to grow. All the while she volunteered, rather than holding a paying job. She was capable of working but tried to ride my gravy train. It made it very difficult for me, psychologically to want to work hard and achieve things:. 3 times the judge issued a seek work order (there is a Latin term for it), but she did not do it I used t…

I'm sorry it happened so quickly. It is a horrible, heart-wrenching process, but I have learned that you cannot "make" someone love or care for you. Communication in a relationship is key and being blindsided by that makes me think that may have been an issue. Counseling is good and if you can confide in a friend or family member, it will help you deal with this, but it will be hard. I found that focusing on myself and my specific goals helped me. I started going to the gym, eating healthier, an…

Check out these links- I was researching the termination of alimony: http://www.endspousalsupport.com/spousal-support-faq As recognized by our Supreme Court the public policy of this state has progressed from one which “entitled some women to lifelong alimony as a condition of the marital contract of support to one that entitles either spouse to post-dissolution support for only so long as is necessary to become self-supporting.” In re Marriage of Schmir (2005) 134 CA4 432. Also note that while …

Honestly, I tried this same approach. Meanwhile, my ex went around telling everyone, spinning her side of the story. One month into the process I had neighbors come up to me, saying they were sorry or that I was a pig for cheating. I was neither cheating nor controlling/telling my side of the story. so her story became the only story out there and that made it true in a lot of people's minds. If I had to do it again, I would pull certain people aside and tell them confidentially. I don't care ab…

Both my kids suffered. My daughter finally came to me, at 19, and apologized for the things she had done and said. She realized that most of the stuff was not true and her mother was playing her against me. I'm still working on the son, as he is still in her control. It takes time and patience, but don't give up on them and don't let them give up on you. I went through 3 counselors with my daughter and 2 with my son. Also, don't let your ex choose the counselors. Be sure to have a say in their c…

My wife at the time just kept taking - she quit her job, so I had to get a second to support the kids. I signed my daughter up for piano lessons and my wife switched the lessons so she could take them. She would break things or cause problems at home - she drove through the garage door twice while on the phone. I came out to see what was going on and she yelled at the kids in the back seat:” Do you see what he makes me do?” I knew then that I was either done or would be a crippled man for the re…

MY STBX at the time had moved out and we shared the kids 50/50. When I was not home (at work, at the gym,...) she would drive by the house and send the kids in to get things, as they had a key to the house. When I figured out what was going on, I decided to turn the alarm on and change the code. One day I was working and I got a call from the alarm company that my alarm was going on. Suddenly I get another call from my STBX. I answered and she was flamming pissed.. asking me how I could do that …

Its a very strange situation and one that I cannot figure out. Each of my friends and lost friends have varying opinions about my divorce and the friendship situation. Example: some of my "friends" stayed FB friends with my ex just to mock her and give me updates (which do not want). Others took sides, while others are still friendly with both, although some favor one versus the other. I have talked to most of them and told them, its their call. Some are swayed by their SO, so have personal is…

When you are sapped of all energy and have nothing more to give, but your STBX still pushes for more from you. When you feel like the weight of the world and the drama of your STBX crush your spirit, it is time to go.

In California there is precedent to reduce or eliminate alimony after 7 years. Alimony is intended I help the other party recover and move on from the divorce. For me the money invested in attorney fees was well worth it

Agreed - join a gym, decide to eat healthy and stick with it. The wonders it will do for your self esteem in 3 months will be amazing.
