If childbirth is the worst pain then it doesn't make sense that women would want to go through the process again. Also, I know women that have had children as well as kidney stones. They all say that passing kidney stones is worse. So both sexes are subject to a condition that causes extreme pain. Not since the mid-late 40s (as an example the ME-262's engines tended to explode if you throttled them up too fast) / early 50s. In early turbojets fuel control was an issue; this problem has long since been resolved.
