There isn't one that I can imagine other than preservation of the current self. But self sabotage is something that people struggle with. Procrastination, laziness, talking ourselves out of doing things, convincing our selves we are not good enough. These are all forms of self sabotage. I think to understand it better we'd have to hit up some psychology books.

...the beer to the party is a metaphor. You still want them around for the value they bring. "Add value" that's all I'm getting at here.

I see it as a form of self sabotage rather than a preservation of calories. While your point of view may have merit we struggle with constantly sabotaging our own success.

Completely agree. To be frank, I had a hard time writing this because the I wasn't sure how to present the concepts in an easy to read way. What I'm trying to convey is that taking into account how your own personal success can add value to others can be used as a strategy to overcome fear of change / laziness. I agree, I feel like this is a really critical time because I'm trying to change my mindset. I need to work on my self control and not just do what has histrionically felt right now that I know it's wrong.

lol I hear what you're saying, breaking free is not special forces training but any change is difficult when a person is used to a certain way of being. It's not easy but I'm going to push on anyway.

She has no bearing on my work life. Her direct boss might if she were to go cry to him but that would be out of character for her. I'll try aloof and boring and see how that goes. I suppose if validation is what she's after and she doesn't get it she'll probably go away on her own. Going nuclear would make the work place weird.

It's a little hard because I actually work with her. So I see her everyday and need to interact with her. My company is not so big that I can just avoid her.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
