It's really quite a haunting movie and concept.

all they need to do is change their minds and your life is ruined. I think that would fall under the purview of "selfish, dishonest, and sociopathic proclivities". On the whole, I think people realize how severe an accusation of rape is, it's not like stealing a candy bar. It's a very serious felony. You really have to hate someone to drop an accusation like that because you regret the sex you had a week prior, it takes some seriously fucked up priorities.

I realize and understand the "the only winning move is not to play" mentality. But you can avoid 90% of the bullshit by simply having a bit of foresight. 1) Don't have sex with drunk women. 2) Don't have mindless sex with people you don't know well. 3) Vet the people you do know for selfish, dishonest, or sociopathic proclivities. 4) Only have sex with people you know are 100% receptive to the idea. The vast majority of the people in the world are not intrinsically bad. If you follow those four …

I'm going to try to remain as neutral as I can on this topic. It's based on income for similar reasons that income taxes are. If you make X every year, the government cannot reasonably expect you to pay more than a certain percentage of X every year. After all, you have living expenses and other things to pay for. Similarly, it can't reasonably expect someone who makes, say $30000 a year to pay more than a certain percentage of that in child support. If it was based on the cost of living, then s…

I live in the Tampa Bay area and I read the TBT very often. I'm quite proud of the journalism of it. But this is just atrocious. Kris, his mother and his father all say that at that moment, Jessica admitted that she forced Kris to have sex against his will. So, she admitted it. Why is this even an issue, at this point? "If for some reason they ever found me guilty of raping him, my whole career would be completely destroyed, I'd be put in jail and the children would go in foster care," she said.…

Absolutely. The fact that you have to ask that means we need to work on our PR. Of course you are welcome. We welcome you with open arms. It matters not what sexual orientation you are, what race you are, etc. The MRM isn't just for men, everyone is welcome, even those that disagree with us. This subreddit is very open minded. It will take more than a little rocking of the boat to get a ban. If you don't mind me asking, is English your first language? It doesn't really matter for the MRM, I'm ju…

Of course it's a racial issue. /u/Eulabeia didn't say it wasn't. The idea that we are "appropriating black men's issues" is laughable, not the notion that this issue has a significant racial component. The idea of appropriation in this regard is ridiculous. That would be like complaining that straight people are "appropriating gay issues" by supporting GLBT rights. Just because it's a race issue, doesn't mean it isn't a men's issue.

This is AronRa's latest video. A little less than halfway in, he starts on his views of feminism. He take a very pro-feminist approach, although I don't view it as wholly disagreeable. I've always been a fan of AronRa for his videos, but I thought this would be a good one to post, even if it's something we don't entirely agree with.

I understand and share in our general view on the matter. I wasn't rationalizing society's view, I was stating that I understand where it is coming from - right or wrong. An understanding of the cause of a view is important in changing it.

I understand the "if it was men there would be outrage" sentiment, and I wholly agree that this is a problem that needs to be dealt. Is it illegal? Yes. Should it be punished? Fuck yes. But I think I understand the lack of outrage from the general public. I think most people who make comments like that remember being horny teenagers. When I was fourteen/fifteen/sixteen (then I got a girlfriend), I was sexually frustrated. At that age, I would have accepted damn near any offer for sex, from a tea…

This situations seems so contrived and...plastic. I've put my arm around a number of women, before. A couple of them didn't like it and made it clear, either by physically moving my arm, or telling me to remove it. The others thought it well to snuggle in a little. As "sexual advances" go, that's pretty minor. So minor, that I wouldn't even classify it as "sexual". I suppose recoiling is a sign that she doesn't want the arm there, but he may have not caught the hint. Saying "don't touch me" requ…

I'd say my shrink knows more about schizophrenia than I do. He studies it, I may suffer from it, but I've never been formally taught about it. I don't think that the school system is a necessarily bad thing. When I was in elementary school, we got 90 minutes worth of breaks, every day (two 30 minute recesses, one 30 minute lunch). They positioned them at the right times of day, too. It allowed us to work off our pent-up energy, get some exercise, and just be kids. I think the big problem here isn't that kids are expected to sit in chairs and perform mental tasks, it's that they aren't given an physical outlet for all the energy they ha…

From a young age, men have been told that women are attracted to "nice guys", or people who bow to their every whim. You know the type. It's no surprise that men get frustrated that their affections are not returned when they've done everything they've been taught to do. It fucks with your head. Most of the people bitching about the friendzone are people who are trying to find a girlfriend. They follow the protocol they were taught, and they aren't thrown a proverbial bone. I'm not sure what you're getting at. The suggestion was to create a Men's Space only in name. In reality, it would permit anyone to join. There's no reason to only allow men, however, it would make for a nice contrast to the Women's Space on the campus. As if to say that the one "for" men is more inclusive than the one for women.

Actively boycott it. Be a constant thorn in the side of the administration until they respond to you. Advertise your own "Men's Space" (but, in the fine print, allow anyone who wants to come, regardless of gender).

Simple disagreement with us does not equate to you being against the MRHM/MRM. 2) I'm not married, so I cannot comment. 3) Make sure people know we exist, that there is a movement for this sort of thing. GWW did a really awesome video on this. The whole nice-guy thing really gets on my nerves. I'd have to agree with the PUA view on this, in a nutshell, do the opposite of what women say they want (within certain limits, of course). When you constantly tell men that women want X and women say they want X, but when you do X, you get nothing because they really want Y, there's a problem. Throughout my entire life, I've been told "be nice to girls, and they'll be attracted to you", it really fucks wi…

It's really insulting how they throw that term around. The word "rape" basically become what the word "racist" has. For those of us who have had to deal with rape in our lives, it's really very discouraging to see these people overusing the term. I think they try to use it for shock value, similar to how anti-gun lobbyists use the term "assault", when it really has little - if any - meaning, anymore.

This is inexcusable. I have been to Pycon before (wonderful convention, awesome people) and I'm shocked this happened at all, let alone to the extent to which it did. The convention does have a somewhat draconian sexual harassment policy, but nothing this insane. Jokes like this are completely innocuous, distasteful, perhaps, but not offensive. That's my birthday. I hope to God that it is something positive and not just an excuse to bash the MRA. Although, no matter how well the speaker orates or makes her point, feminists will find a way to warp it into "misogyny".

Jezebelian I like that. I'm going to start using it. I disagree. Forcibly castrating someone is macabre and cruel. If I was going to have such a procedure done to me, I would fill their asses with rock salt from my 12 gauge (painful, very painful, but not lethal), particularly if they attempt to restrain me in my own home. This is all ridiculous and will likely never come to fruition. I wouldn't relish in shooting them (even with rock salt), but if this were to happen, there would be a revolution.

The problem that /u/DrDerpberg pointed out was that it could be construed to mean that we want more women to commit suicide. A notion that we clearly are against.

And most importantly, not seeing how parents create this behavior. Every parent I know of a boy who misbehaves accused the teacher who expected good behavior of not understanding or liking boys. The mothers of girl who misbehaves accuse the teacher of not being tough enough, of being too nice. That's the very basis of the justice system. "Beyond a reasonable doubt" is exactly that. If there is a possibility that the person is innocent, it is the duty of the prosecutor to find guilt, not the defendant's duty to establish innocence. Unfortunately, that shit goes out the window too often in rape cases.

Point taken. However, it reflects badly on the movement as a whole when one calls the other names. Just as we hate being told we are 'mansplaining' and it degrades the Feminist's stance (what little there may be), it doesn't help our side to call them 'cunts'. In reality, the chances are rather slim. However, by putting yourself into a dangerous situation, they grow considerably. I think the term we need for this is a toned-down form of the word 'blame'. By putting yourself in a situation that is potentially dangerous, you assume a slice responsibility for it's occurrence.
/r/MensRights28/12/12 08:19 PM

I'm not sure what word to use, though. 'Fault' certainly is associated with 'blame', it's rather hard to find the right word for this. The only one that really comes to mind is 'folly', but even that doesn't quite get the message across.

If she was raped/assaulted/exsanguinated, it is, in part, the football players fault for doing it, but she is also partly to blame for putting herself into that situation. It's like walking down a dark alley at night, you know something can happen, if you're mugged, certainly it is the mugger'…

I would agree, men had problems before the inception of the MRM. However, the MRM is, in part, reactionary. The movement more or less started due to the Third Wave of Feminism pushing for superiority, and getting it.

Second and Third Wave Feminism pushing (and receiving) superiority. Notice that I left out First Wave Feminism. They actually fought for something, specifically, the right for women to vote. Many Suffragettes, upon completing their goal (in 1920), were content, the genders were now (more or less, I can't speak for the 1920's) equal, just look up "Flappers", they were the product of First Wave Feminism, they were the embodiment of what many modern Feminists believe they are fighting for, sexual a…

It may just be me, but I don't understand the problem with PUAs. I've found that this subreddit has a particular animosity toward them that I just don't grok. What's the issue with understanding the psychology of women (or men, if you swing that way) and using it to your advantage? They understand what makes people tick and how to use that to get what they want. Everyone uses this idea nearly every day to a lesser extent. If you want something from someone, you word your request in such a way th…

1) Quite so. I was a rather vocal feminist. I stumbled upon this subreddit a few months back (from /r/AskReddit, I think). At first I brushed it off. But curiosity got the better of me and I took a little nibble, then a bigger one, then a bigger one, and finally I thought to myself "this shit actually makes sense", and basically renounced my support of feminism. 2) Never again. There is no switch in the feminist movement that will make them start giving a shit about men.

I'm not a pro at grammar, but I don't think so. 'baby' is not being used as a proper noun per-se. I would think it is just colloquial to refer to a baby as 'baby'. The given name of said baby is not 'baby' nor is it a common way to refer to a specific baby. A parent would likely not say "Baby and I went to the store", instead "Roger/Haruka and I went to the story". I think the lack of an article in that case implies the word 'the' in front of 'baby'.

Mom/Mum is generally used as a proper noun. I capitalize Mum/Dad if I am calling them that (obviously in writing), but I don't if I am saying "my mum" or "my dad" because I am not referring to them by their name, just their role. ...or maybe it is just a motif.

Personally, I'm glad she got something. It may be a rather small sentence, but at least justice was somewhat served. Let's face it, we live in a society that believes women can do little (if any) wrong. The fact that this woman didn't just get a slap on the wrist is a big improvement. Let's work toward making more small victories. The MRM has something the feminist movement doesn't - facts. Their house of cards will tumble in due time, we just need to nudge it a little.

It's in the Constitution. As for the rationale, I don't really know. There are some things that require a simple majority, and others that require a 2/3 majority. If anyone knows, I'd love to hear why that is.
/r/MensRights12/10/12 01:51 PM

In a nutshell, the President approves laws. When Congress votes on a bill, and a 2/3 majority votes for it, it goes to the President for signing or veto. If the bill is signed, it becomes law, if vetoed, it can go back to Congress who can override the veto. The POTUS is also the Commander-In-Chief of the military. Like you said, he appoints Supreme Court Justices (and the Senate approves them). He also makes foreign and domestic policy. There are other responsibilities, these are the big ones.

I think what he is doing is drawing a parallel between feminist propaganda and Nazi propaganda, it is rather entertaining that, in many cases, you can replace "patriarchy" with "Jews" and "feminism" with "Hitler" and it sounds plausible. Rubbers are the only option in birth control that men have. I wouldn't classify a vasectomy as birth control, but sterilization. For good measure, don't assume a woman is using a form of birth control - even if they say they are, you are responsible for birth control, too, not just her. The only exception to that would be if you can literally see an IUD …

Oh, most certainly. Slapping someone with a second degree felony for this is insane. However, it does show that Florida is willing to diah out a similar charge to a woman that they would have a man. Even if it is harsh, it is a step forward in terms of equality.

I can't speak for the OP, but I have a feeling that this was posted to demonstrate that a woman was arrested and charged for having sex with a minor - something that often goes unpunished.

Something like this happened a few years ago in my city. The woman was arrested, charged with property damage, and fined ~$2500, enough to pay for the vehicle's repair.

Granted, I'm not Jewish, but from what I understand, circumcision is not a massive tenant of the faith. Then again, I'm an Atheist, so I eat poor babies. Abram was commanded to circumcise all of his children (thus, all Jews must be snipped), but this is simply one arm of the religion. It isn't the whole religion. They're Jews not 'Snippites'. What I don't quite get why they are getting panties in a bunch over this. Surely their faith must transcend further than just the act of circumcising their…

True. I probably should have said that it depends on who you are as a person. If you're like I am, that is, have difficulty in social situations, it may help just to force yourself out a bit, particularly if you are in a city you don't live in - who's going to know you?

Personally, this was always a confusing topic for me. If there is one thing the US government loves, it is levying taxes. Why-oh-why do they not legalize it an just tax it? This would make for more money in the government's coffers and fewer people in jail for something that really isn't a crime to start with. Another thing I've wondered about is why prostitutes don't sell other things and just have sex for shits and giggles. For example, they sell candles (or whatever) to people who agree to pa…

Honestly, I would fear NSA sex more than I would sex with an SO. You don't know the person as well and you don't know if they're trustworthy. On the other hand, have you found that to work to your advantage? People can't really press fake charges if they don't know enough info about you?

One of the major problems with the two party system in the US is just that. You are forced to vote for one or the other and neither really give a shit about you. Honestly, we need to reform the entire goddamn government. A line-item veto would be nice, would certainly reduce spending. But I digress. The two party system has created a hostile voting environment wherein us mere mortals are forced to vote between a Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich. If you decide not to vote, you have effectively sa…

Very true. The Oatmeal made a good strip about this, actually: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/c_word IMO, they are just words. They are only powerful because we give them power. A Japanese person may not know what the hell "cunt" means and, therefore, likely won't be offended if one were to say it to them. Similarly, an American would have no clue what "Okamno Daisuki" (I think I got that right...) means, yet the Japanese may be offended by that.

Had I been in your shoes, I would have made a major stink with the school. Saying something along the lines of "I will not stand this paranoid, sexist bullshit" to your school faculty. That would have been a sure-fire way to not walk the stage, but you would have made an example of yourself. They can't exactly deny you your diploma, plus, you could still take pictures afterward with your parents. I would then contact the school board of your county, the education department of your state, the AC…

I like the Air Force reference. This. Very much this. If I were in your shoes, I would keep a pocket-sized recorder on you at all times. Next time she comes into your office, or you have to speak with her, mention that from that moment forward all interactions with her shall be auditorily recorded. Keep as much data as you can about your interactions. Setup a camera in your office, set it up such that you can record the majority of your office with the push of a button. Keep a written and dated …

It is a sad, sad world. We have really only two choices: celebacy, or legally record everything as evidence. Lest we have sex with the wrong person and have it explode in our faces.

In my state (Florida) the age of consent laws are someone complex. I am 'of age' as of 18, but could legally have sex at 16, so long as my partner was no older than 26. The concept of being lied too is too easy to manipulate, too easy to bait and switch then lie to the police. The issue lies in the inability to prove your ignorance as to their age. Signing a legal affadavit really kills the mood, too.

"Feminist" or "Masculinist" (not sure that's the proper term) is a misnomer here. The term 'egalitarianist' would be the best, IMO. The MRM is not the antithesis of the radical feminist movement, we don't aim to elevate men to a level above women. Our goal is for equality. Proper, absolute, no fakesies egalitarianism. I liken the radical feminist movement to the book "Animal Farm". What started as a movement for equality quickly became what they were fighting against, in reverse.

Whenever I have guests, male or female, I let them choose. If they would rather the bed, I sleep on the couch, if they would rather the couch, I sleep on the bed. If they are indifferent, flip a coin.

I've always thought that the princess mentality was brought about by Disney (or practically any studio, really) films targeted to girls. Most are about princesses finding their Knight in Shining Armour and living 'happily ever after', at that age, girls want to emulate that, just as boys do with Robin Hood or Peter Pan. I've found this to be the case with many Americans. Women, in particular, grew up assuming that there would be some KiSA to come for them and feel cheated that he never came (bei…

"Which doesn’t count lots of women who work full-time hours, but not all year long. If you do that, the wage gap narrows to 82 cents on the dollar. When you factor in for years of experience, career choice and so forth, it gets closer to that 95 percent figure the St. Louis Fed favors. So it’s easy to cherry pick the numbers here, depending on your politics." Probably the most accurate thing I've seen today.

It is quite encouraging to see this on a university Facebook page. I've found that my local universities are fairly female-supremacist and it is excellent news that they aren't all like this, this was something I was a little concerned about, as I will be entering college in a couple months (I'll be graduating high school in a week). The next step is to spark this idea at other universities. PS: Not to be an ass, but you misspelled 'across'.

I disagree, really. Kids will fight. Period. Furthermore, most bullies are cowards whom are hiding insecurity with bravado. It takes a person to have the chudspah to fight back to get the bullying to stop. I don't condone fights, particularly unregulated ones. If kids, both girls and boys, had a place to settle their differences under the eye of someone with medical experience, I think we would see fewer bullies. If the kids were given a little padding and some boxing gloves, the likelihood of i…

Personally, I would expect them to stand up for men when they are wronged. A moderate feminist, who wants equality not supremacy probably would support the male in this case. A female supremacist, though, hell no.

I imagine he would have no way prove his innocence. His wife likely would not come forward with her lie, and if she did, they likely would not do anything. It is absolutely terrifying that it has come to this. Is it really coming to this? Men having to record their most intimate encounters on the chance that it may be used to indemnify us?

That was nice to read, but felt fake. That doesn't sound like reality. I'm that 'nice guy friend' for a lot of women and it pains me to see them make mistake after mistake with ass hole boyfriends. One of them actually handed me $10 and asked me to buy them a pregnancy test because they were too embarrassed to do it themselves (she wasn't preggers). Being the big teddy bear that I am, I obliged. I even gave her a box of rubbers out of my personal stash so she didn't make the same mistake a secon…

I'm a senior in high school in the US. All through elementary and middle school (Kindergarten through eighth grade), I had female teachers. Not a single teacher (save substitutes) was male. Not a one. Myself and my Y-chromosome carrying peers ran into this problem a lot, in some rather extreme cases, I might add. I recall, in fifth grade, one of my friends shot a spitball at the whiteboard, he got an office referral (I do believe that to be an appropriate punishment, though). A few weeks later, …
