Thanks for the thoughts! It never really occurred to me to explore engineering. But I'm going to look into that. I have a lot of free time to take a course or two at my local college. Never hurts to have more skills and engineering is a cool field. Yeah, that is what I'm thinking about in regards to learning a trade like HVAC or welding. Yeah I thought so too! It was kind of the plan to branch into neuro-inspired AI or something similar. I know machine learning and neural networks well. But getting an interview has been impossible. Might just have to just branch out on my own in AI as a side venture.

I've been working my ratings this past year. I have a family full of airline pilots and flight attendants. They all seem confident that 3-5 years from now the airlines will start rehiring and the shortage will hit the industry hard. But you are right. It might even be 5+ years till regionals or UPS/FedEx feeders become an option. It's a long wait. I hope your situation works out! I'm sure it will.

Graduated with a PhD in physics a year and a half ago with a focus on mathematical/computational approaches to biology/neuroscience and extensive research into neural networks. From a very top tier university/program. Despite applying like crazy to every possible job from finance to tech to biotech to medicine, I still can't get a single interview. I gave up on applying a couple months ago. Planning on going into a trade or becoming a pilot now.
