Confidence, my man. Don't be afraid to approach them if they're in a group. High value women always travel in packs to ward off approaches. Stating outright "I like you" when you first meet a girl (or ever) is not a wise choice. Some solid points about being direct are made here, however being direct about your intentions from the start will telegraph to her that you are just like the 9001 other guys who approach her daily. Pussyfooting is poor game, but blindly stating your attraction is extremely detrimental.
