It happens. Cops can be pretty one-sided when it comes to DV cases. As an example, a friend of mine was in a relationship with a pretty abusive woman for a while. She attacked him every time they got into an argument. Their last was particularly nasty and he ended up calling the police. He had scratches, bruises, bite marks all over him and she had bruises on each wrist from him trying to restrain her. When the cops showed up, they arrested him. He lost in court and spent some time in jail becau…

Just wanted to post my reasoning for not posing this same question in a feminist subreddit. I've been banned without reason from two subreddits already. Me posting this would most definitely result in another, which makes the effort I'd put into creating a post pointless. I wish lines of communication were more open across the board but it's pretty apparent that they aren't. If any of you are willing to test this out, go for it. I'm not going to bother.

It's just not my first reaction to think of a high school as a private business.

Ah didn't think of it that way. I still don't think it's appropriate anywhere though

Why would it not be inappropriate in a Catholic school?

They haven't made any arrests yet, to my knowledge.

I completely understand what you're saying and I agree. Preventative measures are ALWAYS better than reactionary, however, I don't think it's responsible to assume that people should have your best interests in mind. I'm not sure how to teach people not to rape. I know it's wrong, my friends know it's wrong and my family knows it's wrong. We're taught from a young age that it's not okay to touch someone who doesn't give you permission. It still happens. How can we ensure that people know better?…

People need to make responsible decisions. I'm not saying the decision he made should make him any less of a victim or the perpetrators any less guilty. This is the problem with situations like this. It's not black and white. The women are directly and wholly responsible for their actions. He could have just as easily gotten into a car with normal, decent people and made it home safe. There is still a lesson to be heard here. We need to take our personal safety seriously. If we're not able to us…

In this case, yes. What I'm getting at is maybe sometimes we should ask 'what the hell were you thinking?' Getting into a car with strangers, regardless of gender, isn't a good idea. Sure I bet he thought he was going to get a ride home. He still put himself at unnecessary risk by making that choice. I don't think it's victim blaming to point that out.

Also, look at the news releases on the Toronto PD's website. All say 'sexual assault', regardless of gender http://www.torontopolice.on.ca/newsreleases/ The definition is also found at the bottom of the release pertaining to this case. A sexual assault is defined by the Criminal Code of Canada as any form of unwanted sexual contact. It includes, but is not limited to, kissing, grabbing, oral sex and penetration. To learn more about sexual assault, including how to report a sexual assault, please…

That's the issue I see with a lot of organizations. Take PETA for example. I know a lot of people actively advocating for the treatment of animals that would hate to be associated with PETA solely because of their tactics. When the women's rights movement started, confrontation was necessary. We were treated as second class citizens and did not have many of the rights we enjoy today. To be a feminist at that time was a badge of honour. You fought for injustices and got things done. There was a l…

I like to think we're fairly progressive, even if that progress is hard won and slow at times. Hopefully cases like this will strengthen the need for inclusion and equality in case law.

Yeah that comment really shouldn't be included. It's a valid question and one that should be asked. People do need to take responsibility for themselves and I feel like anyone who makes the suggestion is labeled as a victim-blamer.

It's upsetting how many comments there were. These didn't even touch on what was said in the comment sections of the articles themselves. It's a big problem that men aren't taking this seriously. Being shamed by your own gender for coming forward is terrible. I can only imagine how embarrassed this young man must be after seeing the reaction it's getting. I hope this does increase awareness and help other victimised men come forward but it's not looking great based on comments like these. There …

Incorrect. Rape is not a term used in Canadian law. people keep throwing it around when referencing this case and when the original articles are posted it's taken the way that you see it. I don't think you can call a sexual assault 'rape' until the case has been heard and more details are discovered. Unfortunately, it does seem to be used by media outlets prematurely as well.

Article copied here: Over the weekend a young man came forward to the police to file a report of a sexual assault that occurred early on March 31. The 19 year old told police that he had been out and upon leaving a club in Toronto’s Entertainment District he was offered a ride from four women. Instead of dropping him off, the four women took him to a parking lot and each sexually assaulted him. The police are looking for four white women between 30 and 36 around 5'4" and between 190 and 200lbs w…

Really? You shouldn't, it's just womenspost.ca. I didn't have any issues. I'll copy and paste the text here.

The articles say sexual assault because the word 'rape' doesn't exist in Canadian law. People think the two are interchangeable, unfortunately, and see no issue with substituting one for the other.

I was linked this originally as an explanation as to why I was banned. http://www.autistichoya.com/p/ableist-words-and-terms-to-avoid.html?m=1 I have an issue with PC to this level as well, especially when things are taken completely out of context. As a whole, my usage of that word was completely correct. Those comments were made by idiots.

I ended up having a fairly lengthy exchange with the mod who banned me and I actually thanked her for the ban after realizing how ridiculous her argument was. If what I said was wrong, the OP was also wrong to be patronising and shaming towards the victim. When I mentioned that and asked if the OP was banned as well, I was called nosy and told it was none of my business.

It's ridiculous. I might post the exchange the mod and I had via pm when I'm at an actual computer. I said that me using the word idiots was definitely not the worst thing about the thread. She responded by saying 'even if it wasn't the worst it was still bad' Apparently it's part of the social justice work they do. I'm honestly laughing over here.

I actually just got a response from a mod saying I was banned because I used the word 'idiots' which, historically, has been used to belittle and insult those of a lower intelligence................

No. There was this post http://www.imgur.com/kWeoUMR.png in regards to the man being assaulted by 4 females in my city. I responded with this http://www.imgur.com/kPuJnQd.png and was banned. The reason I received was that I gave feminism a bad name. I guess I did break the cardinal rule of not responding with any sense of logic or intelligence. Oops.

That's why I started coming here. I've always noticed a divide in how attention is focused on gender issues. It bothers me, especially since its so common to turn a serious issue against males into a joke. I'm not saying it doesn't happen to women, it does all the time, but people speak up about it. People get outraged, actually. It's just incredibly one sided and it's not right.
/r/MensRights07/04/13 07:45 PM

That was expressed very well. Thank you, and I see your point. It's unfortunate, though, to think about how impossible all of this seems.

The problem with that is there may not be a singular or straightforward cause or approach to identify. Sexism as a whole is a huge issue with many angles. There must be some common ground that can be used as a starting point.

This is excellent. I think we need to take the gender classification out of any discussion to make real progress. Should person A have to deal with X differently than person B? I've had discussions with people in the past where I took a real life situation but reversed the genders or races of those involved and it's scary how much the reaction changes. If something is appalling and terrible for one person, shouldn't it be the same for another?
/r/MensRights07/04/13 07:08 PM

Because it's classified as 'mens rights'. You can't be middle ground if you're not being inclusive. The term Feminism alone brings negative connotations with it. Men's rights does the same. This subreddit is definitely more inclusive than any feminist sub that I've seen and I'm not negating that. As a whole, the men's rights movement Is More inclusive and that should be recognised.

By that logic, the woman being on top would also be rape. Clearly the only option here would be sideways spooning sex, alternating control every few minutes so neither person felt they had a lower balance of sexual power.

I have as well, which is why I chose to post this here first. For the most part, I find the majority of you to be intelligent and level headed when it comes to discussing misandry and issues that are often overlooked by the general public. I'm not suggesting we abolish the different sides, just that we start making positive steps towards a higher understanding. If I am to be completely honest, I don't think a true equality can ever exist. There are areas in life where men excel and just as many …

This makes a lot of sense and I see your point. I guess I'm being a little too optimistic in my suggestion. There most definitely is a lot of groundwork needed before we're able to work in solidarity. I shouldn't jump ahead of all that.

Can we not be proactive instead of reactive and actually create that group? It seems as though both sides are reactionary which obviously does not work. I'm sure there are people on both sides who can see the greater good. How should we go about unifying them?

The core of what he's saying is perfect. I think protesting a zombie walk for religious reasons is ridiculous but he's countering her argument perfectly. Just because you have the right to protest something doesn't make it right. She's a complete hypocrite and needs to see that her right to an opinion is just as valuable as someone else's. Going back to the MRa video, it's clear to see that she feels her right is more valuable than someone else's. Good for him for laying it out. As an aside, I t…

She is so insightful and I really wish people would use this position as a basis for equality. Division of efforts, passion and ideals is not the way to attain a cohesive and positive result. Men and women need to realize that they will never be equal if they keep widening the divide between themselves. Double standards, buzz words and turning. Everything into its own 'culture' are not steps to equality.

He handled that incredibly well. You'd think that mothers would want fathers involved in something like the PTA. For all the times that men are shamed as a gender for being irresponsible/un-involved fathers, it really bothers me to see them get chastised for wanting to play an active role in their child's education.

Speaking as a female, she's a shitty human being. I have to echo others suggestions to speak with a lawyer. Do you know exactly what was said and to whom? Get a statement from them, as well as any testimony to your level of inebriation. Unfortunately, the cards are unfairly stacked against you. I would stop attempting to contact her at this point, especially as she 'ran off' when you confronted her. You don't want her to add harassment to her claims. If she's as cunty as she sounds, it's a possi…

It's not a matter of an unhealthy bias, subconscious writing or anything like that. Her sign reads "Husband left us for a 22-year-old ... House For Sale by scorned, slightly bitter, newly single owner." The term 'scorned woman' was not brought up by the author, he was simply repeating what SHE had written. This most definitely is a case where OP and a lot of others are looking too far into something.
