Marx literally wrote "The Communist Manifesto" which is the book a lot of modern day (self proclaimed) communists refer to as their Bible. What about this doesn't make sense?

Not nearly enough information to comment, but the most likely answer is that he's not really trying to communicate much of anything. Just situational commentary. Unless: there's enough time for the shirt to be ironed before he intends to leave. He might be asking her for help with that. they've argued about ironing/laundry in the past, then he might be resurfacing that

The husbands of the 80s are looked back on like that, yeah, but in the modern day marriage and being a husband has lost most of its meaning. People are encouraged to make their own rules in a relationship which results in a lot of "husbands" who look exactly like boyfriends with a ring. Sure there are still some schmucks in hyper-simp relationships, but also plenty of the reverse.

I was saying husband material is almost always a compliment as long as you're also ons material. It's an insult only if you're not ons material since the only reason you'd be husband material but not ons material is attraction.

I've always held that there are far more misogynists than misandrists on here (at least in the dailys) but the misandrists are far more vitriolic. It's honestly an interesting combination. E.g. a contender for the most misogynistic guy is the SEA mission debrief dude, but he openly admits he's being a bad person. I don't think the pink pill women would say the same.

Everyone talking about how husband material is actually a compliment is forgetting that in the original post, the woman explicitly said "I wouldn't have a ONS/casual sex with you, but you're husband material." It's the first bit that transforms the second into an insult. She was saying "you're not sexy or hot but you can provide for me (financially & emotionally) and that's enough! You might be right. I think you are more often than not. But you might also be wrong. It's just not worth the risk for most men anymore. To paint a more specific picture of how this might go bad: Becky might have technically wanted to be approached as validation, but not wanted to interact. In this case, many Beckys wait for the validation of an approach only to take the quickest exit after they get their fix, i.e. they berate the guy as a creep to get him to move on. Not only does this get them…

Women sometimes just expect the guy to pay without talking about that up front. They'll either dine and dash or pressure him unexpectedly at the end of the meal. Sure, he doesn't technically have to pay her portion, but it can be quite awkward and good luck explaining that to a manager if it comes to that.

When I say that, I mean people are pointing to the equivalent of a single ancient gay bar and saying "hey look how gay they were" and they're not entirely wrong that it was a (small) part of the culture in some cities for a short time but it certainly wasn't widespread and you're right that they shouldn't blow it so far out of proportion. Greece has been around so long, and existed as so many wildly different city states, that you can paint part of ancient Greece as being on any particular part of the gaynbow. That said, yeah Greece in most cities for most of its history was only slightly less homophobic than any particular surrounding nation on average.

One of the reasons this is a difficult concept is that the weight needed to break a bone is different based on how long it's been there. Stress fractures happen when a "normal/ healthy" weight is applied for too long. I think the metaphor is supposed to be like how much weight the camel could hold indefinitely, and not a gram more. But that's hard to imagine.

Counter argument: I'm not going to call either likely but I see 2 potential ways for a modern WW3 to happen: The war in Ukraine shakes out in a way where Russia wins and feels emboldened to go further and maybe start annexing NATO territory. Hilariously improbable given how much they've already lost in Ukraine, but technically possible. This would absolutely destabilize the world economy further, but otherwise it's not a serious or worrying existential threat. Russia just isn't the super power t…

The world would recover from either of those companies disappearing within about a month or 2. If you want to know real societal collapse, pick a food source like Tyson or an oil company or a company that owns/manages local energy. If such a huge wrench gets thrown into any of food, fuel, or energy, that's when you'll see the serious riots.

When did I say any of this? Stop putting words in my mouth. It's a complicated medical procedure. Of course it will take time. That doesn't invalidate my point. It is legal in most states. https://www.cnn.com/us/abortion-access-restrictions-bans-us-dg/index.html Whether it's practical past a certain point is a different conversation, but it is legal in most states. What are you defining as a "limit"? The fact that you have to pay? That's not a serious argument.

its easy to be a backseat driver 🤷‍♀️ It's also easy to campaign for years to gain the full unimpeachable right to do something only to then complain about the responsibilities that come with making that decision. it changes the whole conversation so we can't just assume either way Exactly why I offered to have the other version of this conversation if you want. Pain and pleasure are very similar emotions really? Like I said I don't know how much I believe that one, but people do say it a lot. There are a few big problems with 'helping' them: Even if the fetishes are caused by clear cut trauma, helping them get over the trauma usually doesn't get rid of the fetish. There's a pop psych explanation that pain and pleasure are actually very similar emotions/sensations. This is similar to the foot fetish argument that the part of the brain that recognizes feet is placed right next to the part that recognizes genitalia and sometimes wires get crossed. Being committed to your children is not a 'sunk cost fallacy' it is taking responsibility for people you ought to be responsible for, but otherwise you're right. If there are no children/obvious dependents in the relationship, people often let sunk cost turn a bad relationship worse instead of cutting loose. That said, the healthiest option might still be to hold on and make things work, or better yet, make sure they never get bad in the first place. It's easier said than done, I know, but by fa…

I think the pills/pill colors analogy does fine for making it easy to define distinct groups in the conversation. in fact, most topics would benefit from a similar delineation like this allowing people who feel their position isn't covered by any group to easily make and name their own, rather than the political style false d…

I should’ve asked if she wanted me to feed it to her like an airplane too. Save some rizz for the rest of us... But yeah, childish tastes is usually a sign of immaturity. I had a first date with a girl in college who literally refused to eat anything but grilled cheese, mozz sticks, and chicken nuggets. That's her whole list. And by the end of the date I found the rest of the personality matched. God she was shocked when I didn't want a second date.

People treat therapy as a magic cure for all their other people's problems. FTFY. The problem is not that therapy goers are over-trusting in their therapists' abilities, it's that therapy is the single most over-recommended panacea to all of life's problems. It's really just an offshoot of the just world fallacy. Whatever your problems are, it can't be that anything is wrong with the world so it must start all in your head and guess who can fix that?

I don't think many people who say shit like that are faking it, but it can mean a lot of different things. I think there's a place for perfect characters in writing. They tend to make a story a bit less deep and give a bit more of a fairy tale/mythology vibe (e.g. Hercules) but not every story needs to be super deep or hyper realistic. You're also right that the problem is that these characters don't stay in their lane. They are best suited for casual comedies/romcoms or for childrens'/YA stories (Twilight & Harry Potter are my go-to examples). But the only version of this that's actually problematic…

I wanna add, there are plenty of male "Mary Sue"s (Gary Sue?) e.g. Harry Potter himself, but I wouldn't call many of them relating to culture war just because the current culture war slant of Hollywood is to prop women up. The Gary Sues are mostly lazy writing, not done on purpose.

Not the guy you asked, but my short list is: Cpt. Marvel (MCU) Rey (Star Wars) Bella (Twilight) Hermoine (Harry Potter, specifically the movies the books were better with every character's characterization) Neytiri (Avatar) (lets lump in all the 'noble savage' enlightened woman tropes like Pocahontas while we're at it) I should add I think these all count as "insufferable Mary Sue" and "culture war caricature" but only Cpt. Oh yeah, I wasn't trying to imply there's no argument. It's an interesting question and experts often disagree. But the plain reading of the relevant Amendments reeeeeealy does sound very clear. It's gonna be a veeeery delicate needle to thread, but I can see it working out. I honestly just don't think the Dems have it in them party unity-wise to come to a concensus on a good enough plan, fast enough to stave off 'chaos in the ranks' type worries.

The biggest problem is it takes months to build trust in a candidate even with full support from their party. They have to choose the right person and quickly or they just won't have time to get the public rallied behind whoever they pick.

Fair, but maybe it should be seen as rape either way? Or similar to it? It is non consensual, permanent modification of someone's genitals. Honestly, I was not about to spend that much time on a [redacted] post. It's also something I complained about elsewhere on the thread that she had the gall to post such a long, dense doc without quoting the part(s) she found relevant. If I had to guess, she (like me) scrolled to the bottom and saw the graph saying 70% o…

If we don't know how nice he is, why are you calling him a "nice guy"? Men here tell women they're being mistreated because they go for (sometimes good looking) assholes, ignoring the fact that they're assholes. Hence the "screen for personality" stuff I mentioned. You assuming his personality based on his looks is literally the exact opposite thing to what guys here say to do.

She's saying even if it did decrease, it's still high. That's extremely subjective, but still. The reported decrease, to her, was from "very high rates of sex" to "high rates of sex"

You can say this about literally every service industry. It's not a valid argument at all. Sometimes they're grifters, sometimes they're not, but an audience for dating advice will always exist no matter how many people you genuinely help.

As a 6'5" redpill philosopher, I disagree. Height is basically like any other fetish (though it is maybe the most common fetish). Either she likes it or she doesn't. And even if she does, it's not usually enough. It is a rare fetish is it's at the point where it's enough to be one of the only few reasons she's dating you. I'd put it on par with fitness. Not every athlete is getting laid. Not even every tall athlete. It's just not a thing.

Absolutely, and I'm not saying there aren't. But the terminology really does get muddled and I think if you ask 10 people you'll get at least 5 distinct answers on what egalitarianism actually means, maybe even with equality of outcome being the most common one. I think that's even true among any distinct group of activists campaigning for an egalitarian society.

No true Scotsman. Communes rise and fall, but they are never without hierarchy, at least not for more than a day or so. Even the ones who claim to exist for the purpose of abolishing all social hierarchies. Especially for those. Expound.

Yeah basically. Though a lot of people don't phrase it that was since they don't want to feel like bad people. So they give "advice" but they don't care if it works, they just care if you'll leave them alone. For their outcome, it makes no difference if you want to go stand in a corner being guilty vs going and doing something useless away from them, but they can only tell you one of those two with a straight face.

I tend to agree, I was just responding to that guy under his premise that acquiring a healthy Bristol Chart (3-4) woman is an incentive for achievement. In fairness, it is/was a common piece of advice for struggling guys. People don't understand that even the most communist societies ever were heavily hierarchical. The head of a party and the political class always has more power. People always fight for power with language about their worthiness within the assumptions of their current society ("I'm a much better communist than you" etc.). Animal farm was a much better critique than people give it credit for. Some are more equal than others.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/07/24 08:51 PM

Egalitarianism on a scale of society can mean different things. Imv it’s mostly about real rights and opportunities. It doesn’t mean people will have equal outcomes. The problem with this is that people keep using differences in outcomes as evidence of a non egalitarian society, justifying their proposed changes.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/07/24 08:47 PM

It's not about punishing someone who's struggling, it's about punishing you for daring to ask for help. The request for help is seen as an underhanded attempt to guilt trip people into charity. The tendency to see help that way is both disgusting and an unfortunate side effect of people who actually do abuse others' instinct for giving charity.

That's not how literally any of this works. It's actually a really classic mistake in stats, to think you know the underlying distribution of things or that this distribution will even follow a pattern. There's no reason that would be true, other than blind coincidence. If all you know is an average, you have no clue where any particular data point is. It could be that there's a cluster far from the average with a smaller cluster of outliers bringing it up. You really just don't know. And those …

Thanks for the advice, and yeah I would never let myself take it out on anyone like that. I just get the feeling that it would haunt me even once I was in a relationship. It's not even really about vanity or anything to me. It's just the numbers game that's depressing. Or rather, the fact that it's not in reality a numbers game. 99 (or more) failed attempts is 99 different women each with their own reasons for why it didn't work out... Very easy to calculate from height and weight. There are calculators you can google that will tell you in a second. But BMI as a measurement really doesn't mean much on its own. It's literally just weight divided by height squared, says nothing about body composition or health.

I worded that like shit, sorry. I wanted to draw attention to how many of the specific complaints are liberal taboo though, like womens' expectations being too high or too shallow, complaining about the financial cost of dating/relationships, women flake too much, etc. Though there are some liberal-minded comments there too like some anti-capitalist work culture "why do I have to work 50 hrs a week, I don't have time to do that and date" complaints.

Funny you mentioned that, one of my anxieties is that I'll never really shake off all the failure. Hoe math talks about it a bit in his vids, how he got really bitter after getting fit seeing how different women treated him and took it out on a few of the women he dated right after getting fit.

The bigger point in that comment is that dating feels like more work on top of that. It used to be fun, but it's not anymore. Many comments talk about dating like a second full time job that men actually pay into, rather than getting paid for.

What makes these circumstances so exceptional? They seem more common everyday, especially with quarantine and the rise of work from home as a 1-2 punch. I'd argue it happens far more in the modern era, but I guess it depends what you mean by "modern era" and how far back you want to look. And even if it's only a 1/10,000 occurrence, wouldn't you expect guys like that to congregate here or somewhere similar? This place is a very biased sample of the population.

/r/PurplePillDebate17/07/24 06:40 PM

Oh yeah, for sure. I actually do it all the time here I just didn't think that counted. Ideally you'd try and make it obvious that you're parodying a viewpoint instead of honestly advocating it. I don't really think that's what Mr. Bats was getting at though. It's not "contrarian" to say something absurd just to show how absurd it is.

Propaganda. There's just no proper incentive to create enough jobs. Half the bridges in the US are falling apart. All of these could be their own make-work projects on par with highways in the great depression. The reason it happened then and isn't happening now is because nobody in power is making it happen. I was reading into the implication that if you get a paternity test and it comes up negative is she lied to put you in that position. She said, "You're the father," and you're not. It's not like I insist on a paternity test with every baby at the maternity ward just to set the record straight. Just the ones whose mothers actually claim I'm the baby daddy. That's the unfair part. She knows, but you just have to take her at her word. FWIW, it's also unfair to be the father and never be notified yo…

Honestly the more I think about it, it makes a lot of sense. Depends a bit on the ingredient. Corn syrup? I'll avoid it but it's in a lot of stuff and you probably just get a kitchen ban as a safety measure. Shellfish? Yeah I can make sure there's never shellfish in the house. Who the fuck needs to cook shellfish. Just go out alone and get some from a restaurant real quick if you have a craving. Cooking shellfish is not like a right or something. This absolutely shouldn't be a problem and your mom would be a dick for even asking.

Mandatory testing is usually only proposed as a way to make it less taboo. "I'm not asking for it, they're making me. Why is it a big deal anyway?" Much harder to get mad a man for saying that than proactively asking for one, even if the hospital is offering for free. As long as he can say no, it will be taboo.

I've been addicted to Dungeon Crawler Carl recently. Its hard to describe, kind of a mix between Hitchhiker's Guide and Hunger Games, and the humor is really top notch. Also great social commentary and political/corporate intrigue. It kinda has 'something for everyone' except romance. I honestly never considered that. I just tried googling it but not much comes up. Well feminism does evolve in "waves" so it's very possible you have an outdated but reasonable definition of feminism. You're probably 3rd wave (ended ~2010) or maybe second wave (ended ~1990). Although, third wave still has a lot of the same problems I'm getting at: According to feminist scholar Elizabeth Evans, the "confusion surrounding what constitutes third-wave feminism is in some respects its defining feature." One of the problems with "feminism" is the stated goal vs. what the movement actually is in practice. You can be adamant that anything non egalitarian is non feminist, but in reality plenty of people who call themselves feminists are non egalitarian, and plenty of the rest of the movement welcomes them. I think you're touching on a broader point: "feminism" means very little in practice. Or at least "feminist" does. It's not like you have to certify all your feminist values and then you get a ca…

One thing you might not be factoring is that lowering standards is very common advice for the unsuccessful. It's also something that naturally happens the longer someone goes without any romantic attention. And guys tend to be more flexible with their standards. So while I do think guys start out in life with high standards (probably close to a gender swapped version of the 80/20 rule) a lot of them get desperate quick.

Nah the just world fallacy is more simple than that. It is where you believe that someone must have deserved any consequences (good or bad) that happened to them. I.e. "He's successful in dating (or anything really) therefore he must be a good person" In your example of bad boys, it's not that the fallacy justifies any particular action they've done, but rather that the fallacy uses their success as evidence that they are good (and then maybe uses that as a motivation to justify their actions, b…

Mods: can someone justify the difference in posts that 'present an article neutrally' being force-flared as 'discussion' while posts that 'present an academic article (or evidence from one) neutrally' are force-flared as 'debate'? I don't really support forcing a flare on either type of post since you can make an argument for either flair depending on the particular opinion/evidence the post is about. But if there is going to be a blanket rule on this, shouldn't the rule be the other way around?…

He's not confusing anything. It's said all the time, even by blue pillers here, that women have lower sex drives on average. Reread the post, he didn't write that as an opinion he stands by. If you disagree with it, then you agree with him. As for the argument itself, it's a niche one but I have heard it from feminists before. Basically it's similar to the argument to let gay people do their thing in society. According to feminists, women are/were sexually oppressed on the basis that they don't …

It would barely change anything at all. Only 8-10% of all US divorces award alimony, and about 3% of those are awarded to men. Classification: are you saying 3% of all divorces give alimony to men, or 3% of the ~10% that award alimony (0.03% of all divorces). The way you wrote it reads like the latter but that would be really quite low.

Short answer: yes. I wasn't really allowed to be sad or god forbid cry with my mom. If I there was a way to interpret it as her fault then she would make me feel bad for making her feel bad. "How am I supposed to feel about that?" - Mom, to me when I was 11. It's gotten better as I got older (and she got more mature, its crazy how childlike she is in my memory) but it still comes out when she's feeling cruel (rare). Theoretically women can go farther with fitness and makeup than men. Most people rate fit (like below 23-ish BMI) women wearing decent makeup as like a 6.5-7/10 regardless of things they can't change. OTOH most men usually hang around a 4-5 after they hit the gym and get a good job. That might change though if makeup were acceptable/expected in men, idk. I'm eyeballing the numbers but you get it. Basically, women have a higher floor for looks when they put in the work, barring tragic accidents/b…

Not necessarily, but it's normal to think that. There's enough wiggle room in each idealogy to make the venn diagrams overlap. E.g. if you take feminism only a far as the often stated goal of equality, and redpill as simple facts about romance and gender relations, then it's natural to say that redpill lessons are actually necessary to understand if we will ever achieve true equality. Most recently, there was a post about dating as an average woman based on a ppd user making a fake profile with a friend's pics. The fake woman easily got 7 dates lined up within a day and no dick pics or overly sexual comments. It was a really egregious example of mod overreach. While they might be welcome to, I think the average guy gets so few opportunities that they can't overlap prospects in the same way. Because of this, they look for a level of commitment from women that limits their options as well and levels the playing field. A lot of guys would find the need to negotiate exclusivity to basically be simping at that point since he's effectively been exclusive longer than her.

Your welcome! As for your point about not really getting into it for online strangers, the problem men are getting at here is that whether you're into these guys or not, they really are roughly average, and so is the woman in the fake profile. Sexual attraction aside, men are saying that women actually can get reasonable matches, they just don't like them when they do. It is also really interesting that the women commenting that the guys are too ugly seem to rate them below the very average look…

My guess is what was the thesis? What was it trying to prove? It was trying to prove that women on dating apps get plenty of high quality matches rather quickly and without much 'unsavory' stuff to weed through (i.e. the op mentioned no d*ck pics and extremely few overly sexual comments). This was specifically in response to a blue piller's challenge, but also more generally in response to the common blue pill notion that dating is just as hard for women as for men, just in different ways. I agree with your complaint about the language but for what it's worth these aren't classically redpill phrasings, but feminist phrasings (particularly the victimization bit) I read his complaint as: women claim vast amounts of competency in relationships, enough to nullify any attempt at criticizing a woman's actions (past or present) while simultaneously pulling the victim card and demanding consequences for those who supposedly wronged them even as they consented to the alleged wrong doing. H…

According to my reading of mr. Loop: Preselection = vetting (others like him so they probably have a reason -> i should like him too) Herd mentality is more liking him just because you like things that everyone likes. The fact that everyone likes him is why you like him. There is no vetting in herd mentality. Any possible underlying reasons people like him are irrelevant. They like him therefore so do i Competitiveness is enjoying the competition of chasing the same guy as a herd (and then being…

It's not just WGTOW though. MGTOW is "I'm done trying to find a relationship since it's too hard and hurts too much" 4Bs is more "I'm holding myself (and relationships in general) hostage as a social/political poker chip" The former is depression fueled defeatism, the latter is ego fueled manipulation.

Dungeon Crawler Carl. It's a (very good) book series featuring a pet velociraptor named Mongo the Mongoliensis. I thought your name was a reference.

Many would say that the legalization and regulation of marriage was a bad thing. I read the op as saying we should treat it like a religious institution as much as possible, rather than letting it keep being hijacked by people who "just really really love eachother"

They meant to ideal time to fit it into a busy schedule. If you're busy it will always be difficult to make time to exercise and it doesn't matter much if you're trying to do it morning or evening.

What about the logic doesn't apply to the dating market?

The key point is that there wasn't any real scarcity until perceived scarcity caused panic buying, which then caused real scarcity. In the late stage, yes the scarcity is real. But the cause is perception, and that is a very real part of the solution, if everyone would just stop panic buying.

The real claim here is that (by your analogy) women have become very picky eaters and refuse to consider fruit with any blemishes/bruises. Only the most delicious looking fruit ever gets touched, even if it's not that tasty (but that's a different conversation). So yes, a "berry" guy can do as well as a "citrus" guy but that doesn't mean they don't share a very specific and nearly exhaustive set of traits, as different as you may insist they seem.

The entire argument is that group 2 eventually becomes group 1 via something similar to "chad widowing"
/r/PurplePillDebate27/02/24 12:25 AM

In a world with reading comprehension. That sentence says exactly what you claim it doesn't say. You're just flipping some framing around to make it look better than it is.

In what way could "1 in 25" possibly be misleading if 4% is the correct figure? If anything, it is extremely clarifying. More importantly: how can "4%" be "tiny" while "1 in 25" is "twisting the statistics?"

Re: 1) I honestly can't think of a reason to set the limit higher than 2 top level comments. If you happen to have 3 interesting things to say, either: Group them into one comment Save one for the next day Let one of your thoughts be left unsaid for once in your life Seriously, this isn't twitter. The only reason I wouldn't limit at 1/day is it's understandable to forget and coment twice in a day.

Sounds good except that most would find the existence of such a database unsettling and would not voluntarily give dna to it. If there were some way to magically guarantee that the database itself is only used for its intended purpose, then yeah, this is the ideal solution.

I thought i was the only one this happened to lol. I have had a couple large social circles in school and nothing ever happened. Very few unattached women or chances to meet friends with 2 or 3 degrees of separation from the main group unless you're specifically hanging with party animals.

It's mostly a game of inches. The more it gets normalized to be 'girl boss' and 'strong independent woman' into old age, the less people will generally find themselves making realistic sacrifices in the name of LTRs and the small percentage of people who are in happy relationships will continue to shrink. To be even more pessimistic, which i think is op's intent, this might result in even more extreme measures in men's dating behaviors as desperation creeps up the ranks into the top 1-10% of suc…

Before reading: understand that when i generalize about women in only talking about ~70-80%, certainly plenty of women don't perpetuate what i say here but it's still enough of an effect to make waves in the dating pool. Personally the more frustrating part is how many of the things women seem attracted to are readily lied about, and how complacent women seem in being very credulous when lied to about these things. E.g. pua types often lie about things like refining their language to sound a lot…
