The first rule of thumb is to get a lawyer. Take the emotion out of this, and follow lawyers advice. Expect 50/50 custody, and expect to share assets/debts as per your States precedent equations. Relationships end, and you are likely both 50% responsible. This is normal. Continue to be a great Dad, you are not responsible for your STBXW in any other way. All of those hard things are real. And it’s healthy to feel into them. It isn’t the whole story though, and imagine the depth of love you have for your kid, and the years ahead of just being a great parent to them. Feel and imagine into what you want that to look like.
