Yes - though the reason is largely different. Sex outside of marriage is not compatible with a Christian lifestyle, and thus means that you don't have the strength of conviction which you claim. That is a lot more important when you are looking for someone to protect and provide for you when life gets hard.

Mixed feelings on this. He is right in some arenas, but I don't know that his arguments or conclusions are truly well founded across the board. For example, he uses the example of Jacob and Rachel as evidence that they had no intimate contact before the wedding night. Physically - this is true. Emotionally? We have absolutely zero biblical information on their relationship. All we know is that he was working for her father with the declared intention of marriage for 7 years. I do believe that th…

While I generally assume this, it is good to be explicit. Frankly, it should be explicitly stated: Every expenditure - regardless of category - should work towards the glory of the Most High. What does that look like? In practice, it means asking the inverse question: "Does this work against the glory of God?" This distinction is rather important for personal sanity. Unless you are in a very strange situation, you need not seriously consider "Does it glorify God to hire someone to mow my lawn?" …

While the title of the original post specifies "abstract", I suggest that a slightly broader conception is appropriate. After all - "Investment" can be defined as: "Voluntary consumption of a resource to obtain likely return." So on that front - I think the OP capably captures the options to invest money to obtain non-financial personal gain. And I think a few more categories should be added for the other critical options. 1) Non-abstract investments ex: Stocks, Real Estate, a retirement fund, t…

I would agree that widespread *organized* sects were limited - largely due to the near-universal first and second-hand accounts of the account and teachings of Christ . That being said, the if you consider the level of disagreement and discussion addressed during the First Jerusalem Counsel, I think the disagreement addressed at that time would certainly be similar to the difference between Pentacostal and Baptist today - some important differences, and enough to qualify as a separate denominati…

I will affirm your first points (That difficult=yes and unequally yoked = saved or not). That there were no denominations or differences in beliefs at the start I find manifestly inaccurate. 1 Corinthians chapters 1 and 3 reference a division in the Church over which individual teachers doctrine to follow. Galatians 5 addresses the heresy of requiring circumcision for salvation, with Paul stating in verse 12 he wishes those preaching that doctrine would castrate themselves. Much of the teaching …

I would agree with many of the posters before me. You have three biblical options while complying with mandates: Have a small ceremony/signing now and schedule a reception/vow renewal later Have a small ceremony/signing now and don't worry about a big ceremony at all Wait Marriage is before God and Man, but it is primarily between the two of you. Allowing yourself the opening to get 6 months down the road and decide "We never made it official so I am done" is just a bad plan. Not that you would …

So, this makes perfect sense from the perspective of someone expecting to cycle through sex partners. As a Christian however, it makes little sense. Your goal is marriage not sex. That means a strong, enduring, and open relationship with your wife. Sex is a side benefit of having a life partner. This means any advice that promotes short-term conflict avoidance over long-term lack of conflict is misguided. If you look at his Rule 7, you can see that he does not even consider the prospect of rebui…
