We're just going in circles here. If some people are pessimistic and some optimistic, how can both be objective? It couldn't be that lens, could it?

Your post was removed due to rule 14, titles must be descriptive. It's not a problem at all. There's no penalty for people who accidentally break non-critical rules like this one. I marked it as a 'low effort post' because I didn't have time for a full explanation. One problem with this post is that it's a screenshot of random idiots talking bullshit. We get too many of those and we try to cull them when we can. Sometimes we let them go because they have many upvotes an a good discussion going by the time we see them. The other main problem with the post is th…

I talk about the lens first because that's the reason some people may have a pessimistic or optimistic view about the future of men's rights. The 'truth' part of my post is the second part, where I give my true opinion about the future. Bear in mind that my opinion could be wrong, but I stated the truth about what it is. As for 'truth' itself, I make a distinction between 'truth' and 'reality'. Reality is real, but truth is a human concept expressed in language. Language has limitations. Specifi…

Good thing I'm not seeking to destroy objective reality. Truth, now, is another matter. It's a human concept involving language, while reality is not (except as a word that points to reality). I didn't say that the lens we're looking through is the only variable at all. Please keep in mind what I've said and don't make assumptions about what I've left out. It would take a long time and very many words to express my views on this and I don't have the time to write a book just now. I don't want to…

'That' was everything you said in the comment to which I was replying. it also supports my thesis that this way won't be won by debate or facts is also true. But it's not all of the truth. I would say this won't be won by debate or facts alone. It's important to know that when I say something, I'm not excluding anything unless I say I'm excluding it. By the same token, I could still be excluding something but not saying so at that time. If there's any need for clarification, just ask. :)

Thank you. I've opened the link in a tab, but I can't guarantee that I'll have time to read it all. I'm definitely not on the 'women were oppressed' bandwagon. I don't believe you thought I was, but I'll make it clear just for the record. :)

I was in a rather philosophical mood last night. I started with the question "What is reality?" and went from there. Then I realised that any such string of comments would take too long. Not only that, but my answer was changing as I looked deeper into the question. So I put it aside and removed the comments that I began with. It's a work in progress. :) With regard to my premise, I repeat that it is a multi-part premise. Specifically, I don't intend to say that reality changes according to our …

Thank you for supporting me. I started off on the wrong foot. There are many ways to view anything subjectively. I no longer view Sininem's comments as hostile in any way, although I did at first. He criticised my post and I didn't react nicely enough. I apologise for this failure. I made a mistake in what I posted, which he later pointed out to me. Then I corrected my mistake and we made amends. All of this probably happened while you were typing your own comment, so here we are now!

Nothing is certain but all of that is possible.

My premise consists of more than one part. Each part should be examined separately first, and then they should be examined in combination. I hope to continue, but there are other things going on and any replies will be intermittent.
/r/MensRights30/03/20 06:21 AM

All of that is true. Nevertheless I think progress is not only possible, but happening. That's because other things are also true. I've mentioned some of them and I hope to mention others. But I apologise in advance because I don't have time to mention them all.

The way of the world in the West used to be that women were not allowed to vote. That changed. Other things can change too.

A good point. I'm not certain that COVID-19 will be the cause of the tipping point, but I'm pretty sure that something will. It will probably be a combination of many things, which includes the pandemic.

Please read my post carefully. I didn't say that reality is dependent on our opinion or outlook. I said that our beliefs tend to make us see reality in a way that is consistent with those beliefs. If you want to argue against that, go ahead. But please don't argue against things I didn't say.

The entire basis would take too long to explain. It also involves personal issues such as a successful recovery from long-term depression which is a mental illness that makes everything look hopeless. I can say that I have been an MRA for thirty years. This is not meant as one-upmanship, it simply means I was probably born earlier. As with a great many things, the situation depends on how you look at it. One of the great faults of the human mind lies here. To use Robert Anton Wilson's terminolog…

You stand up for men, I stand up for you. It's the nicemod way. Of course it isn't only you. This frequently happens because some men just can't welcome women into the movement. I try to correct them.

That's not nice. It's not productive either. There is no evidence that this woman is a "chameleon" apart from your baseless say-so. Women are some of the best and most effective advocates for men's rights. The Honey Badgers have done more to secure our rights than almost anyone else. You should be nicer.

You have been shadowbanned by reddit admins (not by mensrights moderators). See /r/ShadowBan for information about shadowbans. I have approved this comment so I can reply to you. It seems Reddit has a bot that looks for certain types of user behaviour that indicate spamming or brigading. Sometimes innocent users get shadowbanned along with the bad guys. Usually they can fix this if they contact the admins.

Just FYI, I've brought up the idea of making certain sites archive-only, but the other mods didn't want to go with that. Instead, we'll use the "clickbait" flair more often, as well as a new flair called "ragebait". Which reminds me, we have to adjust the flairs. I'll get the evil mod to do that, because his work is never done.

Or the Nazis to the people of Europe, for that matter. But Germans are nice and peace-loving now, and so are the Japanese. The only reason they're beefing up their militaries is because they're worried about aggression from Russia and China, respectively. I think all that firebombing, and the deaths of the most fanatical soldiers, may have made a good change for the long term.

I'm really sorry to have to do this, but I have to remove this post. Under our rules, posts like this are banned, and there is a good reason for that. The reason is that every time someone puts up a post about being banned from r/feminism, some of our members go over there and make trouble. Then they get shadowbanned - example - and the admins get mad at our subreddit. We don't want any of that. So posts about being banned from /r/feminism or any other subreddit are against our rules. Nobody but mods and admins can see your post, you know. And I can't do anything to have you unshadowbanned. Why not just stop behaving in a way that gets you in trouble? Reddit owns this site and they make the rules. We have to work with that.
/r/MensRights16/02/15 11:55 AM

And now you're shadowbanned by the admins as well. I am so tired of people dicking around with other subs and getting shadowbanned. I'm seriously starting to think about banning any links or screencaps at all if they're to another subreddit. In fact, I'm going to suggest it to the other mods right now.
/r/MensRights16/02/15 10:40 AM

Since you're a subscriber, I don't think the mods would mind if you posted a relevant comment you'd found on another sub to which you also subscribe. Just make sure you don't post any links back here. The whole point is to convey relevant information while discouraging any sort of negative interaction with the other sub.

Please repost your link with a less inflammatory title. In particular, don't use the word 'pussypass'. We have over 300,000 unique visitors a month, many of whom are new to men's rights. I disagree, as you already know. A back-and-forth, however, is not on my agenda because neither of us will change our minds about the precise cause of the problem. However, I can agree with you on the existence of the problem and the need to fix it, and I'd be happy to work with feminists on that basis.

That "patriarchy hurts men too" theory is just a way of blaming men for their own problems - in addition to blaming men for the problems of women. Actually patriarchy theory is a way of collectively blaming all men for everything that's wrong in the world. Patriarchy theory is false, sexist, and directly promotes hatred of half the human race, on the basis of their genitals alone. It is, and will remain, totally unacceptable to anyone who truly supports gender equality.

I'll remove this whole thread for now. Anyone who wants it restored can message the moderator council with an appeal.

Good question. I don't know any sources, but my take on it is that both sexes should be treated in exactly the same way, with minor specific exceptions for special circumstances. You can't really be sure which sex anyone really is online, anyway.

If he'd asked for money, his post would have disappeared instantly. We don't allow that. Another mod has since removed it, probably because it's irrelevant now. Or maybe because it was always irrelevant. I give more leeway in some areas, and sometimes I get it wrong. That's why we have a number of mods.

Brand new account, slightly suspicious name, overblown language, references to the supporters of slavery and the man who runs Return of Kings. Obvious troll is obvious. But I'm leaving this up because it's an interesting discussion. Personally, I think we will be regarded in much the same way as the feminists of the 1950s - though like their current status, it might take a few decades. The troll may even grow up to learn that his beliefs are not always correct. Edit: Okay. Because I'm the nice m…

Sorry, but I've removed this post because it may cause people to brigade that sub and get themselves shadowbanned. The top comments in that sub are pointing out the reverse genders thing anyway, so the point has been made. In other respects, it's just another "Women Behaving Badly" post and we get enough of those already. Again I apologise for the inconvenience, and hope you will keep on making contributions to this sub.

Like it or not, I am a moderator of this subreddit and I get to make those decisions. The other mods all agree with me, and so do the 234 users who upvoted my comment explaining my reasoning - which just happens to be the top comment in the whole thread. I may be on a high horse, but it's my job to be on there and enforce the rules as I interpret them, for the good of this subreddit.
/r/MensRights15/02/15 12:57 AM

That's well known already. Also it wasn't obvious from the post. Write a text post with a title that says what the post is about (not just "wtf") and briefly explain the issue. You can link the pic in the text if you like. Then it will be a good post.

My dear sir, I beg to differ. The words in question were clear, concise, and unambiguous. It was only the thinker's failure to recognise their meaning - or, gods forbid, to read them at all - which led to his unfortunate confusion. And now, sir, I must bid you farewell despite the pleasure of your conversation, for there are other tasks which demand my attention.
/r/MensRights14/02/15 05:49 AM

Ah, but was it the writer or the thinker who was at fault? In this case, I would say it was the thinker, because the quoted words he missed were very easy indeed to understand.

I don't like the word either. But it's trending, and it's what we've got, so let's work with it. We don't have to like the word, we just have to win the war.

What I said about starting a fight referred to the original thread, not your comment to me. I wasn't objecting to the content. My opinion about whether you are right or wrong doesn't come into it. I was objecting to the manner in which you raised the point, which was needlessly provocative to another group of MRAs. You were talking like you were looking for a fight - even if you actually were not - and if you kept on I knew it would get real ugly real fast. It's a perfectly legitimate subject to …

Normally a selfie like this might be disallowed under the image rule, but this is a special case. It shows a young, attractive woman supporting men's rights openly - and that is something we need more of in the world. So I'm leaving it, and I hope other mods will also agree. Edit: Some users have questioned my reasons. For clarification, I'll paste my explanatory comment here. Well, actually, not even the young attractive ones any more. Maybe, maybe not. Quite a lot of these shadowbans are mistakes, or stuff that admins will undo if the user promises to be good. A fairly large proportion of the people to whom I've given this message get unbanned. Some don't, of course.
/r/MensRights13/02/15 09:32 PM

Some of those feminists will, as you suggest, become egalitarians or MRAs. Look at what Karen Straughan has accomplished all by herself. Imagine ten Karens. Or a hundred, or a thousand. They're out there, waiting to be awakened.
/r/MensRights13/02/15 09:43 AM
3

I said it was progress, not success. Some feminists are actually starting to listen to us instead of mocking. As the movement grows, they will increase in number. That section of the feminist movement which does not despise men may begin to wake up and exert its influence.
/r/MensRights13/02/15 08:59 AM

It was at this point that the conversation degenerated into a series of accusations, counter-accusations and insults. This needless noise detracts from the quality of the sub. We are not just squabbling among ourselves here. We are on display to 300,000 unique visitors each month, and those visitors develop an opinion of the MRM from what goes on here. I don't have the time to argue this further, but if you dispute any of my official actions you may take up the matter with the group of moderator…

You're free to disagree. And he's still got the comment up. But I've looked at his profile, and there is a point where the gratuitous use of language is excessive. And he's close to it IMO. But I'm only one mod, and he can always appeal to the entire mod group if he doesn't like my decisions. Anyone can. And if the mods decide I was wrong, then my decision is reversed.
/r/MensRights13/02/15 02:47 AM

Fair enough. I was about 51/49 on it anyway. Sometimes I make the wrong decisions, and it's good to have others to fix my mistakes. BTW, have a look at the sticky thread. /r/MensRights13/02/15 01:57 AM

That is a good point. However, we are on display here, to represent the MRM to the 300,000 unique visitors we have each month. So I'd prefer that such points were made in a manner less likely to alienate casual visitors. Also, the commenter is a new account and has a history of rude and aggressive comments (plus some good posts). If he can drop the rude and aggressive bit, he'd be fine.
/r/MensRights13/02/15 01:53 AM

Concerning in what way? The last few comments have been basically unproductive name calling. It is not beyond a moderator's powers, or for that matter our rules, to put a stop to it. If you can both discuss the matter in a civil fashion, then do so to your heart's content.

I know it is, and the anti-brigading rule is annoying because it prevents many potentially good interactions between subs. But if that post were to go up, some of our members would immediately rush over there and start voting. And then they'd get shadowbanned and the admins would get mad at us. I've checked the links and the facts it is based on seem correct. I changed the flair to "opinion" because it's more of a point-and-laugh at hypocrisy than a straight news story. But it's not a parody. I'm familiar with Clementine Ford's writing, and she really is like that.

I apologise; I was unclear in my original instructions. I meant that you click the actual flair in front of any post on the subreddit page - like the one circled here. Imgur Doing that brings up all the posts with the same flair.

If the Times is saying that, I'd consider changing the flair to "Progress".

The difficult part of this is that there are so few groups anywhere. I think it would be cool if there was a subreddit or web page hosted somewhere, just to help MRAs locate each other and find or form local groups. I'm not sure that reddit would be the best format for that, though. Maybe some sort of wiki listing groups by area, as well as anonymous contact info for people looking to form one.

If the comments are anonymous, use the occasion to bring up the issue of men as victims, and the abuse that men suffer when they are all labeled as violent perpetrators.
/r/MensRights04/02/15 09:32 PM

They don't need to be ignored, but they have a lower priority. There is already a much larger, more influential movement looking after those issues, and it makes no sense to divert what little resources we have from our main work.

The only reason that's a common complaint is because feminists claim they advocate for men's issues, when they don't. The men's rights movement advocates for men's issues, and doesn't claim to advocate for women's issues. This is just a troll post trying to distract from our cause.

No one is stopping men from doing something for themselves Actually, whenever men try to do something for themselves on campus, all the women's groups band together to stop it. Funding is denied by feminist student councils, and protests are held against any attempt to meet or organise a men's group that's actually for men.

Another sticky? Why not? As an ex-feminist myself, this topic has some interest for me. Maybe one of our graphic geniuses could even make a pie graph! My own reason was a gradual realisation that feminism was nit about equality, which was what had attracted me to it in the first place. It was actually about reversing discrimination so that women could be the oppressors.

This post isn't intended to tell new people what's going on. For that purpose, we have the FAQ. This post is aimed at people who have some knowledge and experience as MRAs - hence the lack of evidence which most of us have already seen. It's also anti-feminist, because feminism is currently the main obstacle in the way of equal rights for men in the advanced democracies.
/r/MensRights30/01/15 05:57 AM

"Manspreading" is good because it's a one word demonstration of feminist hypocrisy. The people who spent decades trying to eliminate gender-specific words are now inventing gender-specific slurs. Manspreading, mansplaining, manterrupting and bropropriation have all popped up recently. It's a demonstration that feminism isn't about equality, but about putting men down in every area of life. P.S. If you don't like the way the subreddit is going, perhaps you should lurk less and participate more.

Most of these troll threads get deleted, but occasionally one is left up if it gets a significant number of responses. If you see a zero-day account posting leading questions like this, click on "report". Edit: This turns out not to be a troll thread, since OP returned and gave reasonable responses to the replies generated by the thread. Typically a troll would just smear and run away. In other words, the question is whether there is a centuries-old conspiracy, called 'Patriarchy', in which men collaborate as a group in order to exploit women as a class. Feminism is founded on a conspiracy theory - one that specifically blames men for all the problems faced by women. No wonder the actions of feminists take the form of a war against men!

We don't have a rule against reposts as such. We do have a rule against spam, and sometimes we use it to cut down on reposts. I think it could be a good idea to target reposts in general, though there are always new subscribers who haven't seen the stuff that's been posted before. The place to discuss issues like this is /r/MensRightsMeta.

We can't know for sure. However, almost everything gets downvoted as soon as it's posted. And there is at least one entire subreddit, with 6700 members, devoted to attacking our sub. So it's a reasonable deduction that many downvotes are coming from our enemies.

A lot of downvotes actually come from people who hate us, and downvote everything. That's why I often urge members to go to the "new" tab and vote on contributions according to their value.

Actually we do. And the link that this feminist provides as evidence is ironic, because it's mostly supportive of trans people. The whole blog entry is so far off the mark that it's hilarious. Unfortunately. people who are already against men's rights will take it seriously.

Uttering threats is not only a criminal offence - it's strictly against our rules. Advocating for violence of any kind will be deleted, and repeat offenders may be banned. If you see anyone making threats, or saying they should be made - report it to the moderators. Obviously we have no control over what random people do outside our subreddit, but we come down hard on anyone who thinks threats are appropriate in here.

I've never met with somebody digging into my past like this subreddit That's pretty clear, because you making claims about what you said that are contradicted by the record of what you actually said. Reddit users have histories, and there's a risk associated with making verifiable claims that don't stand up to scrutiny. So when you come along and make the claim that you were greeted with hostility just for asking an innocent question, it's pretty easy to verify the fact that your claim was false…
/r/MensRights10/01/15 02:19 AM

The hostility started three days ago, when you dived into the Dalhousie argument. And you didn't ask questions - you went on the attack immediately. Now there's nothing wrong with disagreeing on our points, but I find it disingenuous of you to pretend you were just trying to learn and were suddenly assaulted verbally. Your first posts here, and almost every one since, were arguments. So why pretend that you got a hostile reception simply for asking an innocent question? You got a hostile recepti…

i can tell you - hands down - that this has not been my experience in this subreddit as a person who knows nothing of MRAs and wants to understand the movement. /r/MensRights09/01/15 09:16 PM

It is actually spam. This person spends the whole day posting the same junk not only to our subreddit and others, but all over the Internet. It's also both derisive and repetitive. That's why we clean it out. You can see some examples here.
/r/MensRights09/01/15 07:50 PM
1

If you take a look at the user's profile, you will see an extraordinary level of racism, sexism and sheer hatred in a great many of their posts. Those posts are also deliberately made in such a way as to give the false impression that they represent the views of entire groups. As pointed out earlier, it's here for educational purposes. This is how false flagging works.
/r/MensRights09/01/15 07:48 PM
2

See /r/SRSsucks for an explanation. Read the FAQs there.
/r/MensRights09/01/15 07:42 PM

Admins have bigger fish to fry. They usually don't bother with mere trolls.
/r/MensRights09/01/15 07:40 PM
2

We don't ban people simply for saying offensive things occasionally, or posting to unpleasant subs sometimes. There are patterns of behaviour that may lead to a ban, and this was one such example.
/r/MensRights09/01/15 07:39 PM
2

Exactly. A decision like this isn't based on just one post (unless it's an obvious throwaway). We look at historical patterns of behaviour in our own subreddit as well as others, and this troll was posting racist, sexist garbage all over the place. It was also interspersed with some deliberately inoffensive stuff to garner upvotes. This is a good example of false flagging, because it demonstrates how a determined false flagger will attempt to build up positive karma in order to gain credibility.
/r/MensRights09/01/15 07:37 PM
1

Actually they're not against reddit rules. Spam, vote manipulation and doxxing are the things that reddit admins concentrate on.
/r/MensRights09/01/15 07:33 PM
1

Only admins can apply IP bans. And they're usually busy with more serious stuff, like doxxing.
/r/MensRights09/01/15 07:32 PM
3

This thread is an exception. It's not often we get such a clear-cut example of false-flagging.
/r/MensRights09/01/15 07:31 PM
1

Evading a mod ban isn't really something the admins care about. They have their plates full with keeping spam and doxxing at bay.
/r/MensRights09/01/15 07:28 PM
2

People can appeal a ban, and there are also temporary bans. In fact, this troll did appeal his ban, and it was explained that his posting record was such that a ban was appropriate. Some trolls delete their history in an attempt to avoid this - but then an old account with no posts in it is itself a suspicious sign.
/r/MensRights09/01/15 07:27 PM
1

Votes on someone's profile page don't count anyway. The admins coded it like that to make it harder to brigade individuals. That means anyone who did downvote him went to the effort of actually opening his comments in the relevant subreddits. Besides being against the rules, it's a completely pointless exercise and so our members shouldn't be doing it. Instead, exposing the lies and dirty tricks of our opponents - without personally harassing them - is more useful.
/r/MensRights09/01/15 07:22 PM
3

There's just too much material on this sub for the mods to read it all. So sometimes trolls can hide for a while. But when this post came up, I had a look through their posting history, and then it became pretty obvious that this was either a troll or a genuine bigot. Of course, the confession to being part of SRS confirmed the latter.

You can post an np link, but it should not in any way suggest that people should vote or join the conversation. A screenshot would be better. Links to arguments in which you are taking part yourself are considered as incitements to brigade - and will likely be removed. Redditors who vote on linked threads are likely to be shadowbanned by the admins.
/r/MensRights09/01/15 12:33 PM
15

Your own user history - which should not be doxxed, downvoted or harassed in any way - is interesting in itself Note the seemingly sincere posts to AMR and SRS. And the self-shadowban check. Now of course I have no way of knowing if your statement implying that you are the original troll is true or not. Nor do I particularly care. But you provide an excellent example of the sort of dishonesty and hypocrisy our enemies love to practice.

'He didn't know the rules of the Internet so he deserved this' is a worrying sentiment to say the least. Good thing it's a sentiment I didn't express, then. In fact, I quite strongly implied that he knew exactly what would happen - and I'm pretty sure he did. Can you not see how your entitled behaviour might be harming people who want to read thoughtful deconstructions of this sort of thing? I can see how keeping thoughtful deconstructions of this sort of thing secret could be harming people who…

Mod note: Please don't reply to the spammer/troll with the many accounts. This just fills threads with massive slabs of off-topic junk. And that's part of his goal. Just click on "report", and when asked to give a reason, list "spam". The janitors will take care of the rest. Help us keep our threads clean!

That was never going to happen. How do you think Karen and I and so many others found it in the first place? Rule Number One of the Internet: If you want to keep something private, don't post it to a public blog. I'm sure he's well aware of that. There was no way that wasn't going to be widely read, and Scott isn't naive enough to think a request like that would actually prevent it. The only way he could stop this sort of thing would be to stop posting thoughtful analysis of important topics.

It would be helpful to explain that in the title itself. Just saying "what do you think of this video?" tells readers nothing. The title should be something like "Video refuting the idea that men are obsolete. What do you think?" That way, people would know what it was about and you wouldn't get this problem.
/r/MensRights05/01/15 08:07 AM
1

While I can understand the point behind your title, it doesn't actually tell us anything about the content of the link. If you want to make a statement of opinion about something, please consider making a text post with a title about the double standard, and include the link in the text. Too many vague or uninformative post titles can make it difficult for readers to know which links they may wish to follow up on.

I know he's not asking for donations; that's why I just made a suggestion. Posts that ask for donations are usually simply removed. If people choose to help him set up something of his own, that's none of our business. The mods only care about posts on this subreddit that request funds from readers, or links to pages that actually ask for money as their main purpose. A blog or video that happened to include a "donate" button on the page would probably be okay, as long as the actual post or video…

Just for everyone's information, the mods here (especially /u/sillymod) actually created an alternative off-reddit space. It had a blog and a discussion forum. That was when we last felt threatened that reddit would just shut down the whole sub, about two years ago. While it still exists, it has been largely unused, due to lack of interest from subscribers.

Either OP starts outright arguing with all the points made by members, and often putting them down. This, of course, reveals that OP had no intention to learn anything, but just w…

They do, but not when our users start thinking they're real (see the comments). The problem with this one is that even though it's flaired as satire, the article itself looks serious. Briefly, have the answers out in the open, on a thread in this subreddit. Then check the posting history of everyone who has answered, to make sure they're a regular participant of the sub.

While highly likely, we tend to give marginal cases the benefit of the doubt. It's better to give good advice to someone who might be a troll, than to reject someone who might actually have a problem. After all, what's a troll going to say? "Those stupid men's rights folks were helpful and sympathetic! What a bunch of dopes!"

A quick and informal poll in comments is fine, but a formal poll won't be allowed as a post unless it can be made safe from external manipulation.
/r/MensRights21/12/14 11:25 PM

I've stickied this because it's an interesting discussion. As for an actual poll, a credible one would need to be done openly on this subreddit, with vetting of those who answered to make sure they were real MRAs. Self-selected online polls have been hacked before - and in particular, one of ours was spammed by a bot. The false results were then circulated around the femisphere. So if we were to actually do this, it would require a lot of work by someone. Though having just one "Yes or No" answe…

No. Once is enough. I'm just explaining that it's common practice when a professional offers to answer questions about his profession. Anyone can make an account and claim to be anything.
/r/MensRights21/12/14 11:03 PM

You're not just discussing your experiences, you're doing an AMA. That requires some evidence that you're actually who you claim to be. If you look at the main ask-me subreddit, /r/IAmA, their rules require proof of identity for every post.

This isn't actually men's space. It's reddit's space and we only occupy it at reddit's tolerance. Beyond that, it's a space curated collectively by its moderators, who set specific rules in addition to those imposed by reddit itself. As I've mentioned before, there are other spaces available if these restrictions offend you.
/r/MensRights20/12/14 08:44 AM

No, I'm a moderator. I only have limited control over this subreddit and I can't shadowban people at all. Admins have control over all subreddits and they can shadowban any user.
/r/MensRights20/12/14 08:21 AM

Thanks for understanding. I think with a change of title and some careful re-wording, it could make for a discussuion in a way that was less open to misinterpretation.

I didn't shadowban him. Read my post again.
/r/MensRights20/12/14 08:09 AM

I think it warrants discussion, too. However, because of our rules, it will need to be discussed with the mods before it can be posted here. We have to be very careful about any material which could be used to suggest that MRAs advocate violence against women. There are many other subs which don't have such rules. You can post it to those if you want to. Our rules only apply here.
/r/MensRights20/12/14 08:03 AM
1

I can see where you're coming from. My own personal opinion might even be sympathetic. But the rules are there for a reason, and this post warrants discussion with the full set of active mods. This would of course cause some delay, but the issue isn't going to disappear.
/r/MensRights20/12/14 07:57 AM

/r/MensRights20/12/14 07:48 AM

As I've said, you can argue your case with the full set of moderators. You may find some leeway in the rules: Violence: Advocating for unlawful violence or threats thereof (including poisoning/dosing, statutory rape and all other offences against the person, but not including legal self-defense) will not be tolerated and will be removed. But I won't let this post through without agreement from other mods.
/r/MensRights20/12/14 07:47 AM

If you wish to dispute this decision, you may message the moderators with your complaint.
/r/MensRights20/12/14 07:44 AM

Things that will make me maul a bitch. I personally think it should be legal to use physical force to defend against this kind of bullshit. I just want to punch the girl in her pretty little nose. (AKA a solid punch to the face) That's advocating violence. No "ifs" or "buts" about it. It's against our rules and you are not allowed to post it on our subreddit. Your case may be rational, but it is simply not allowed to be stated in r/mensrights. There are thousands of other subreddits; try them.

If reddit was shadowbanning users for criticising feminism alone, there would be a lot more shadowbans. Half the members of this subreddit would be shadowbanned! Usually it's for some more mundane reason, such as one of these.

The advertisers are NBC's customers, and they know it. Who the customers of the companies are depends who their ads are aimed at. Even if those ads are aimed at women, they will listen if women complain. Ignore the TV networks - they don't give a shit. Look at who the advertisers are targeting. Guess which one most of the media promote, while ignoring the other one? Oh, by the way, one of the reasons for publicising World Toilet Day is because women who have to shit in the woods will get raped by men. Sadly, I am not kidding. Not that a rapist would ever think of hiding on the path to the women's toilet.

You should have titled that "Michigan Cuts Player for Allegedly Punching Woman", because he says he didn't do it and there hasn't been a trial yet. And, preferably, post a little comment addressing the men's rights aspects of the story. That's so newcomers can understand what the issue is here.

So much for the SRS trolls who say we only talk about hating feminism and hating women.
/r/MensRights18/11/14 05:45 AM

That bothers me, too. The survey lacks a mechanism to distinguish actual MRAs from trolls. From reading the questions, I can see just how the anti-MRA trolls would respond. However, even bad publicity usually brings in more subscribers - after some people check to see if we're really that awful.

That is a very bad idea. The men's rights movement needs all the credibility it can get. Making fake videos would destroy that. Let the feminists make their own stupid videos. We don't need to do anything.

I've stickied this because I think it's an important discussion to have. There are many posts with titles that give no description of what the link is about. This means readers have to spend time clicking on the link, just to find out whether they want to click the link. Multiply that by 100,000 subscribers and dozens of posts every day, and it becomes a problem. Note that we have no official rule about non-specific titles at this time.

The disparity in workplace deaths is a men's rights issue. If users posted every random story about workplace deaths, the sub would be flooded. Either start a discussion putting the story in the context of men's rights, or don't post it at all. I'm not going to argue any more about this.
/r/MensRights15/11/14 11:22 PM

Reddit is a private corporation, and its management makes whatever rules it wants to. Moderators have no say in the matter. If you break reddit rules, you may be shadowbanned. I don't want that to happen.

That sub can be used for a variety of things, including just ranting. Here's our general policy on image posts: Meme/Rage Comics/Low-effort Images: There are subreddits devoted specifically to these things, and such content belongs there. If you have a point to make or a story to tell, make a self-post. It is not the content so much as the format that is the problem, where many subreddits are starting to treat these submissions as spam. Moderators may remove such image submissions at their discr…

That's a good attitude to have. We just try to cut down on simple rage-inducing graphics, because there are so many, and they distract from more general issues. That's why we have a ban on memes and advice animals and the like - but /r/MensRants was created as a home for these.

After the last poll was spoofed by a bot, the mods won't support a poll that can be easily rigged. The only reliable way to make a reliable poll, that I can think of, is quite labour intensive. It would require having all the answers posted in a thread for public viewing. Then someone would have to manually check the posting histories of those who answered. This would ensure that only those with a history of positive participation in the sub were counted. That's a lot of work, and may be impract…

I understand that. I'm sorry. But links like this tend to cause our members to go and vote on those subreddits - and get shadowbanned. Those stats are completely fabricated. Some months ago, a redditor posted a survey here, linking to one of the popular make-your-own-poll sites. Unfortunately, that site didn't have any sort of verification process to distinguish between humans and bots. My description of /r/FeMRA is very closely based on their sidebar and title. The title is literally "Honey Badger Boot Camp". Those subs aren't really related to ours. Also, /r/askfeminists is just as bad as /r/feminists for banning people. "I got banned from feminist sub X" posts are no longer allowed here. They should go to r/mensrants.
/r/MensRights15/09/14 03:40 PM

Rant about it in /r/MensRants! It has that name for a reason. :)
/r/MensRights15/09/14 09:01 AM

They were both posted before I explained the rules to OP. He won't do it again. We have a lot of rules, and in my experience we're lucky if half the users even read them. So if it's not an obvious troll, they get a warning.
/r/MensRights15/09/14 09:00 AM

I've already removed it. I'm sorry to do this, but we were getting those sorts of posts every day. Practically everyone here has been banned from one or more feminist subs.
/r/MensRights15/09/14 08:56 AM

Sorry, but we get flooded with so many "I was banned from feminist subreddit X" posts that we no longer allow them here. Please post this in /r/MensRants instead.
/r/MensRights15/09/14 08:50 AM

It's worth noting that the author of this article has invited men to write about DV against men (if you read through the comments). So I've flaired this post as an action opportunity.

Sorry, but I've had to remove this due to reddit doxxing rules. Names and faces must be blocked out in screenshots from Twitter or Facebook. Use colours to denote different people instead.
/r/MensRights14/09/14 10:09 PM
1

Removed due to presence of multiple names. Please block out all names.
/r/MensRights14/09/14 09:38 PM

As others have pointed out, the name LaDarra Renee Hardin is present twice. Also we have no way of knowing what your name is. So, in order to comply with reddit rules, please obscure all names. Use different colours to identify different people.
/r/MensRights14/09/14 09:23 PM

There are names still visible on this screenshot, so I've had to remove it.

As usual, "being included in the conversation" means "being lectured by feminists". I note that whenever feminists talk about "conversations" with boys and men, it's in the context of a one-way communication, with obedience expected.

/r/MensRights13/09/14 12:43 AM

Claiming that ZQ slept with someone at Vice, without evidence, is potentially defamatory. Please resubmit this with a more neutral title, such as "Vice defends Zoe Quinn".
/r/MensRights12/09/14 11:34 PM
3

Sorry, but we no longer allow "I was banned from a feminist subreddit" threads, since there are so many of them. Please post this in /r/mensrants instead.
/r/MensRights12/09/14 11:29 PM

You got the Interet definition right But reddit only polices brigading within its own site (with certain special exceptions, such as doxxing). Those are reddit's rules, but the Internet outside reddit has different rules.
/r/MensRights12/09/14 07:06 PM
1

We don't make those rules. Reddit does.
/r/MensRights12/09/14 07:04 PM
2

"Brigading" leads to shadowbans. Only if it's from one subreddit to another. There are no reddit rules against commenting on other sites, as long as those comments don't attempt to manipulate votes on reddit.
/r/MensRights12/09/14 03:09 PM
1

No worries. The rule applies because facebook conversations often have real names attached, and reddit admins don't want people to be harassed for the things they might say (even if they are offensive). Same thing goes for real names that aren't published in mainstream media.
/r/MensRights12/09/14 10:51 AM
1

Sorry, but reddit privacy rules require that all facebook screenshots must have the names blocked out. So I've had to remove this.
/r/MensRights12/09/14 10:47 AM

Your comments were pertinent to this sub, but the way they were linked would have encouraged our subscribers to go to that other sub and vote there. This, in turn, would invite shadowbans from the admins. If you just posted the graphic here, without reference to the other subreddit, and attached your critique as a comment, there would be no problem.
/r/MensRights12/09/14 06:38 AM
1

I understand. It's hard to keep up with all the rules - I do it because it's my job to know them. I don't always personally agree with all the reddit rules, but while we are on reddit, we have to abide by them. This website belongs to reddit, not us.
/r/MensRights12/09/14 01:34 AM
1

Unfortunately, linking to your own comments and arguments on another subreddit is tantamount to inviting a brigade to support you. That would violate reddit rules, so I've had to remove this post.
/r/MensRights12/09/14 12:07 AM
1

This is probably a troll. In any case, I have to remove the post the screenshot contains the person'a name, which is against reddit rules.
/r/MensRights11/09/14 11:17 PM
1

Sorry, but leaving the persons name on this screenshot is against reddit rules. I have removed the post. Please block out the name before posting again.
/r/MensRights11/09/14 07:18 PM

The linked article refers to the alleged false accuser by name, which is against reddit's doxxing rules. Therefore I've had to remove it.

Being a man doesn't mean having to be a dick who confirms all the stereotypes that feminists throw at us.
/r/MensRights11/09/14 05:15 AM

Do we really need such inflammatory titles for links? I would urge you to rethink both the link and the title. Our subreddit is not a forum for pushing political party lines, or insulting people's sexual choices.
/r/MensRights11/09/14 03:19 AM
1

Sorry, but this has been posted twice already today, so I've removed it. Also, in future, please make your title more descriptive, so readers have an idea what it's about.
/r/MensRights10/09/14 11:25 PM
1

Sorry, but since that article contains doxxing information, it cannot be linked on reddit. Therefore I have to remove it. I suggest you take a screenshot, and black out the people's names or employment/residence. The context will still be sufficient to prove the doxxing. For example, one sentence would become "We prefer to call him XXXXXXX, a 29-year-old XXXXX currently running a one-man XXXXXX in a suburb of XXXXX, XXXXX."
/r/MensRights10/09/14 07:47 PM
1

While the page no longer appears to contain doxxing information it is best not to mention it on reddit, so I've removed this post. This is not the best place to ask such a question. If you want to know, ask the people who run that site.
/r/MensRights10/09/14 06:02 PM

Crossposts to other subreddits must be in NP format. That is, the "www" in the link should be replaced by "np". Also, readers are advised not to vote or comment in linked subreddits.
/r/MensRights09/09/14 04:13 PM

This is actually a satire article from The Onion. It doesn't really belong here.
/r/MensRights09/09/14 09:32 AM

You were shadowbanned before you posted that. My impression is that you were probably banned for posting too many links to your own blog - see these rules.
/r/MensRights08/09/14 11:02 PM

As always, if you are not subscribed to that subreddit, do not vote or comment on the linked thread.

Yes. I remember the complaints from their own members when it was first made a default. In general, subs that become defaults lose a great deal of quality as thousands of new people surge in. Personally, I'd prefer our own sub not to be one of them.
/r/MensRights07/09/14 11:40 AM

Sorry. I should have made it clear that this wasn't directed at you personally. The main purpose of my post was to make it clear that /r/mensrights has an official policy of non-interference with other subreddits. Obviously, though, what individual members choose to do is up to them, provided no rules are broken.

I don't think this is a good idea. At best, it will just generate needless drama between subs. It's certainly not an official stance of this subreddit. What you do represents your opinion only.

That's the way it goes for anyone who tries to introduce new ideas. Including the early feminists a hundred years ago. You don't have to talk to people about it if it makes you uncomfortable. Every time the issue is mentioned, though, it is a small step toward breaking through the ice. Even just posting comments on the Internet helps spread the word. My own experience in commenting on the net has been that persistence pays off. If you bring up the issue in every forum or news comment section tha…

Thanks, and I'm sorry I couldn't offer more help. But we get these requests almost every day, and once had three in one day. If we allowed them, the subreddit would be flooded. In the long term, it's better to build support and lobby groups, which can then raise funds on their own.
/r/MensRights07/09/14 02:59 AM

You can go to mensrights for advice, but not for money. You could ask where you could get help - as long as you don't ask for money. There might be some subreddits for fundraising, but I don't know which they are. Also, you could try to contact fathers' rights groups in your area.
/r/MensRights07/09/14 01:46 AM

Sorry, but we generally don't allow individual appeals for funds, because there are so many of them and they are difficult to authenticate.

That post didn't pertain to men's rights, which itself is sufficient reason for removal. Moreover, you gave it a misleading, editorialised title: "White male, 48, unemployed and homeless finally loses it and kills 2 female Govt welfare agents, wounds a third and gets what he wants--a roof, regular meals. In Gaol!" There was nothing in the story to support your claims in the title. In short, it was both misleading and not related to men's rights. That sort of thing has no place here.

That would be a bad idea. Such sites can be spoofed by bots, and we remove such polls for that reason.

Sorry, but this isn't really a men's rights issue - unless the allegation is shown to be false. As it is, there's no evidence one way or the other, and so this isn't suitable for the subreddit. So I've removed it.
