In view of the recent controversy, a few points should be borne in mind.

Moderators have no say as far as paid advertising goes. It's against the rules of reddit to hide it with CSS or otherwise interfere with it.

Reddit is a huge website with several full-time employees. It's also a business, and it needs money to survive. People who buy advertising are directly helping to support reddit, and indirectly helping our community.

Moreover, reddit management tracks which subreddits are generating income - and looks favourably on those. By advertising in our subreddit, redditors are making our community stand out as one that is helping the whole site to survive and grow.

For this reason, if you're feeling generous, drop some reddit gold on good posts here. It helps keep our subreddit alive through sponsorship!

As for qgyh2's advertisement, he has been in contact with the mods and we have discussed it. He didn't mean to offend, but to promote a book he liked (and possibly earn some money through his Amazon affiliation). In fact he complimented our work.

The book itself is humorous and satirical, written by a well-known troll and comedian. It takes a poke at everyone on both sides of the gender war. Personally, I think it's hilarious - and I believe the ad was placed as a joke that seemed appropriate to our interests.

Unfortunately, we get trolled a lot, and this makes sum of us suspicious of anything that looks a little odd. However, we are in no danger of being "smeared" by such ads, as some fear. They are clearly marked as advertising, and bear the reddit name of the sponsor. We do not in any way control the ads on this page.

In addition, any sort of publicity usually brings in more subscribers - so it's helping us grow as well as paying for our hosting. These points should be considered when thinking about ads.
