Nobody complains about…. my face. This hit me hard, I snorted. It’s so true. None of the stupid questions- “what’s wrong? You look miserable.” “If you find it funny why aren’t you laughing?” “Why are you looking at me like that?” Urggghhh it’s just my face!

Ah thank you! And congrats to you too, criminology was also something I considered. I went down a forensic psychology route too with the intention of working in a prison but I don’t know if it’s from an empathy standpoint. I’m just morbidly curious about the motivation behind the crimes. I don’t believe everyone who commits a crime has a mental illness (it was a question that was posed throughout my degree) but it interests me how they end up the way they do. Anyway, yes my abuser also went to a…

It’s terrifying and fascinating in equal measure for me but then I just completed a degree in psychology. Although, it was just terrifying when I was in that situation. A memory that stands out in my mind was my ex had a conversation on the phone with someone he’d fallen out with the night before. I could hear both sides of the conversation clearly, the guy didn’t really respond in any way, he was just “yeah, yeah, yeah” and when my ex got off the phone he said “oh he kept apologising and told m…

That is truly fascinating, thanks for posting. I honestly believe I’ve met 2 true narcissists (and a few more who displayed some tendencies but less so) and it never occurred to me that they would fill the gaps in their memory with their own narrative. I’ve seen the lies, the fabrications and I was convinced he believed what he was saying, but the whole different reality they are living in - this is mind blowing and is filling in some gaps for me. Also, the less clinical part of my brain, loves …

Stay strong, it’s going to be really hard but you are going to come out the other side and your only regret will be not leaving sooner. Cut all contact, block him on everything, concentrate on you (I know that’s so cliche but it’s all you need to think about right now). Sometimes you’ll have a wobble and wonder if you’ve done the right thing but remember how you feel now, he’s not going to change, even if he tells you he has months later. Hold your head up, there’s no shame in telling friends, f…

Ethically non monogamous, in 7 different relationships? He wishes. They are always greasy as hell and just fed up with their wives who they’ve manipulated into having an open relationship. Then inevitably no one will be interested in them, their wives go on one date and they come on Reddit accusing her of cheating.

Right! The most offensive part of this for me was how beautiful she looked for a night out at McDonald’s… and then I saw his face. Let’s be honest, if she’s looking at that mug all the time then she’s probably learnt to hide her disappointment pretty well by now, a McDs date ain’t gonna phase her.

SAME! Omg I’ve been saying my whole life that I don’t want children and I used you get “you’ll change your mind” and now I get “I know loads of people in their early 40’s who’ve had kids, it’s not too late for you!” It baffles me. Sometimes I’ll follow up with “no, you’re not listening, I don’t WANT kids” but then I just get the head tilt pity look.

Oh yeah, that story rings a bell actually. I can’t fathom it, if you deliberately take a life then you deserve a life sentence. I don’t know how that’s even negotiable. And being tried as a juvenile is a disgrace as well, you know murder is wrong from a very young age, there’s just no excuse.

The girl shouldn’t have jumped? If she actually did jump… What would the mother have done if two men put her in the back of a van - I don’t think she’s in any position to judge. Maybe she should have raised him not to be a violent thug, how about that? The fact he laughed makes me sick, no remorse, no fear of punishment, there’s nothing you can do with that. Monster.

I’m mostly posting this because I heard her family on the radio today saying she can’t talk or communicate due to her injuries and will need care for the rest of her life. They are appealing the sentence as he could be out in 4 years. It’s just so harrowing. His friend who helped got 21 months in jail. Even if he did do the full sentence how is this fair? The girls life was cut short at only 19 years old.

Reddit is the worst place to ask for any advice (if it’s not a female only sub) because it’s so male centric and I’m convinced most of the replies are teenage boys. Like, the way they defend other men they don’t even know is disgusting. And then they get so butt hurt if anyone tried to contradict them in comments, the rest of the idiots swoop in and downvote it like crazy. It’s a strange, strange place.

I’m this “bad influence” to my friends too. I never bad mouth their partners, I just make sure my friends know their worth and that their opinions are valid. Most recently my friend (who works full time, has 2 kids under 4, 5 bed house and no help) said she was thinking about getting a cleaner in once a week but her husband had scoffed at her and said she was ridiculous. Cleaners are so cheap where I live. I told her it was a really normal (and good) idea and just acted so baffled by his reactio…

Yes, I’m in the UK and I remember hearing an expert on the radio talking about how long it takes to learn how to inject someone effectively, how long the needle would need to be in the site for and everything else you’ve said. I followed this when the court case was going on and my heart broke for her family. Not only had they lost their daughter, they had to sit through that monster, and his lawyers, telling the world about her supposed sexual preferences. Implying she’d begged him to do it, it was her fault, she wanted it etc etc. It seemed to be the focus of the media, as if that was now her memory - her sex life. For me there’s two significant times when your either fall more in love with someone or you see their true colours - when you’re grieving or when you’re sick. I fell more in love with my ex when I got really sick once and he was so worried, and couldn’t do enough for me, I’d never seen him like that before. Compared to a full narcissist ex who literally disappeared when I was called to my grandmothers bedside at the end of her life. I mean he fully ghosted, we even had a holiday booked a few wee…

YES!! Omg when I first heard of demisexual and read the definition I couldn’t understand why it was classed as a ‘sexuality’. I genuinely don’t know how anyone can be attracted to someone they don’t know, in fact I’m completely apathetic to every man I don’t know. Im straight and can appreciate an attractive woman or attractive man but I don’t want to have a relationship with them based on the aesthetic. I totally agree that the police need to take some responsibility for this, unfortunately the onus is going to be back on women to decide what's safe or not. As ever, the sad truth is we can only rely on ourselves and each other. I would never get into and unmarked car without making a call to the nearest police station to verify it and I think I'd be really hesitant to get into any car with one or two male officers. I totally agree. Remember Grace Millane who went on a Tinder date, got murdered and the murderer said she consented to being choked during sex and it "just went too far"? I remember my mum saying at the time - is that what people do these days, choke each other, is that a thing?? And you just seem to hear about it more and more, or you're shamed into being "vanilla" if you don't have some crazy kink. It's too much, definitely not worth the risk for me.

Women do it too, sadly. I had to review crime stats (UK) for a forensic psychology report I was writing a couple years ago and it came up in convo with a female friend. I mentioned about domestic violence numbers and men who kill women and she said "but women are just as bad, you just don't hear about it as much." I was sitting there with facts and figures and she just wouldn't even entertain my view. The other mind boggling thing about that is we've both been in abusive relationships, I can't f…

It's the only reason men push for marriage as soon as they meet someone, god forbid they're left alone with their own children once a month after the divorce.

Super late to this party but this is like that book, The Rosie Project. The main protagonist has Aspergers (I think) he's also a scientist and makes a screening questionnaire to meet a potential wife. Its a funny book. It's not funny doing it in real life though. But I bet that's where he got the idea - it's not even original.

Yeah that was really horrible. And there was another one where the girl was waiting for marriage (to have sex) but wanted to go for full obgyn check up and her fiance freaked out because he didn't want anything (medical instruments) to enter her before he did. Although last time I commented on a post like this I got a pretty passive aggressive dm saying I needed to 'calm down' and realise that sub is just a creative writing platform.

Well, that's just incorrect. Botox is used to treat medical issues - spasms, excessive sweating etc, there's definitely more than two reasons. I get botox to lift my brow, its always been heavy (genetics) and to correct a lazy eye. I do it because I think I look better with it than without, its not to attract a man and its not to combat aging. I don't have lines on my face pre/post botox and honestly I've never met a man who would notice such a subtle change. Its purely for me.

I actually thought about making a post about this topic because I wasn't sure if I was being too 'judgy' about my friends husbands because most of the time I'm disgusted with them. I'm really protective about my friends so when they are struggling with kids or upset about something I tend to jump on the "what's your husband doing in all this?" And I really reflected on it the other day and realised I wouldn't have settled for any one of my friends partners. And the women with the worst partners …

I just finished reading this and I have to say I've never seen so many people on reddit so united in a set of comments, pretty much everyone saying this is a divorcable offence. I think the way people treat you when you're sick says a lot, I've literally fallen deeper in love with some one because of the way they've looked after me when I got sick. Husband/wife aside, at a basic human level this is atrocious, let alone having VOWED to look after each other for the rest of your life!!!!!

Notice how he say HE wanted a baby, HE was happy about it, HIS PARENTS were happy? Then later HIS SISTER was talking shit about his fiance in front of him. Her last line is pure class. I hate it so much when guys are suspicious as to why women are single, especially when single guys the same age are saying it. Which is exactly what I’ve done when it’s an ex or someone who keeps coming back through various methods of communication - silence is powerful. I certainly wouldn’t be explaining time and time again about why his behaviour was unacceptable, why we broke up or why I didn’t want to get back together. This is a weirdo spraying his weird messages to girls on POF because he can or thinks he’s entitled to. I called him out. I felt like it. I thought it was funny. Do not try to make sense out of this because it IS NOT YOU. Nor is it anything you are putting on your profile. I get really normal “how’s it going” messages from guys so I’ll respond, then out of nowhere I get “what kind of underwear do you wear?”. It’s just losers being losers and that is the world of online dating. For every 100 men, you might find one decent one, and even that is optimistic. It’s definitely not you.

Only men can rape, they’re the only ones with the anatomy to do so. Women cannot rape, by definition. The definition of rape (in UK law anyway) is penetrating someone with a penis without consent. It was even a factor in the Brock Turner case because if he used his fingers, it’s classed as sexual assault, not rape. I know men get assaulted by women but they don’t get raped by women, they get raped by other men.

I didn’t like what I heard either and I only messaged him for a few hours! I totally got the vibe he was still into her. For example they only split in February. And they still shared the dog because he had to go to work so she’d go and let it out, so she still had a key? A child doesn’t bother me, I’m in my mid 30’s so most men have children at this age but sharing pets makes me think you’re hanging out for a reunion. And I never even asked about his ex, he just told me these titbits.

Exactly!! When he said psycho I was thinking “did she come at you with a knife? Was she looking in your windows in the dead of night? Turn up at your work to check you were there?” No. She broke up with him. That’s all. Even if he’d said any of that I probably would have asked if she was okay and getting the help she needs lol.

Yes that’s what I noticed too. Some of the comments were saying she obviously didn’t want to break up because it had been 6 years but she was a child when they got together (and maybe he was too) so she doesn’t know how bad this is. what else is she putting up with and thinking is normal? I felt like a grown up at 23, I wasn’t.

Oh probably. He’s sounds like a proper dud. Like she shouldn’t need to do it anyway but dude just take the cash, stick it in your wallet and get the drinks in!! Why is it even a thing.

This is true. It worries me that it seems to upset you so much although now you know and knowledge is power. You’re right not to engage in one night stands although I fear your thought process may be a bit skewed or maybe it’s just the way I’m reading it. For example, don’t worry about a guy thinking you are ‘gross’ because you’re not. Of course different people are going to find different people attractive, think about celebrities who are classed as sex idols but you may not find attractive, th…

31 year old dates a 22 year old: - doesn’t like hanging out with her friends and describes her as immature.... I really hope she gets rid of him and enjoys her college years being able to act her age with people her age without someone shaming her for, well, being her age.

Came here to say this. I just watched the last two yesterday and the nanny thing, oh my goodness!! And his wife just sat there and smiled. A lot of shit went down in that series but honestly I was so disgusted when he said “she can have a nanny but I get to pick her, you want something nice to look at in the house” and “once this babies out of her she can get back in the gym”. I’m paraphrasing but it was words to that effect. Surely she must be brainwashed or something? And some poor girl will g…

Also, last night I matched with a different guy who I’ve seen on Tinder constantly over the past few months, I remember him because it’s quite a small place and he’s quite good looking. I’m quite bored just now (obviously) so I thought I’d match with him to see why he kept popping up. We were chatting and I asked him if he’d been on many Tinder dates and he said “I only joined today.” I pointed out that I’d seen him on there a few times and he just avoided the subject. So I blatantly said “so ho…

It is lonely, you’re so right. And you sort of know in the back of your mind that you’re the only one who can fix it but that’s a scary decision so there’s a fear element too. Plus doubting yourself, guilt for putting yourself/staying in that situation, and all the other shit that comes with it. It’s making me anxious just remembering it!!

This is so sad. People describing themselves as “vanilla” because they don’t like choking and anal? So you don’t want to be in pain and uncomfortable in a situation where you’re at your at your most vulnerable with a person who should be absolutely focussed on your happiness and pleasure? Well if that’s vanilla then colour me magnolia! If face fucking is your thing then great but if it’s not then it doesn’t make you vanilla. Poor girl, someone invite her over into our garden.

I’ve always said this and I mean it - there is no doubt in my mind that I prefer being alone than in an unhappy relationship. My mental health has always been at its worst when I’ve been in relationships. It’s definitely more relaxing having the freedom to live your life how you want to and not worry about someone else.

I had that on my tinder profile once that I wanted the male version of me by which I meant takes care of themselves, good looking, funny, decent job, works out, respectful and ambitious. If that’s how I am why is that asking too much in a partner?

I’m genuinely sorry that happened to you too. You are preaching to the choir! Answer back - disrespectful, don’t answer at all - you’re being moody, agree with him - patronising and he’s too clever to fall for that. We’ll be fine, we’re strong and we’re out of it now. Go get it girl, much love xx

You couldn’t be more right. I was in an abusive relationship for 2 years, got to the point where I’d do anything not to wind him up - I didn’t go out, didn’t see my friends, didn’t visit my family, changed the way I spoke, cooked, cleaned, entertained his family.... this list goes on. Anyway, you know what he got pissed about eventually because there was literally no other reasons - he said there were crumbs in the corner of the kitchen units because I hadn’t wiped down the surfaces properly. I was never a super fan of Friends but i liked it and have seen them all. An episode was on at my mates house the other day and Ross is jealous of Rachel’s work friend, Mark, to the point he goes to a fashion lecture with her and sleeps through it because he doesn’t want her to go with Mark.... I was just watching it thinking - ehhh did no-one notice how controlling this is??

No, you are not doing anything wrong. LVMs see OLD as a lazy way to get sex without leaving the comfort of their grubby homes. It’s a shame because I do think 10 years ago OLD was more genuine but now it’s the lazy way to date and people on it like you, looking for an honest way to meet people with the same goals, is few and far between. Obviously I can’t say there’s no men on there looking for love but come back to us in 2 years if you still think you’re doing something wrong on these apps... a…

All men are children at some point and parents should be raising their children to be independent and ready for living alone - which includes learning how to keep a clean home, being responsible for their living area and understand the importance of personal hygiene. I genuinely think men just don’t notice dirt though. They will just wait it out until it annoys their mum/girlfriend/female housemate/wife more and they end up doing it for them. It’s disgusting. I’ve house shared with some really g…

Exactly! Even when you hurt someone by accident you still apologise profusely, even for stepping on a toe. Makes me suspicious if it actually was an accident. Imagine seeing someone in fire, let alone you’re new spouse - you’d be far more urgent than that on the phone to 911, it’d be the worst moment of your entire life.

It was a few years ago now but it was really hard, I missed him and I didn’t really want to break up so I was angry with him, really angry. But ultimately it was empowering. I’d spent so long worrying about the future and having anxiety about what HE would decide we should do that when I took the power back it felt good. At least I knew where I stood on my own. And a year later I was genuinely the happiest I’ve ever been. Spent a year really concentrating on myself. Deciding what I wanted to do,…

I cannot upvote this enough! Listen to this woman! I learnt the hard way. Gave my ex some time to think about what he wanted, I was in purgatory waiting for his decision and then I realised - if he doesn’t know if he wants to marry me after 3 years together then it’s a no. That’s it. And men are really cowardly, he’ll never come right out and say it to you. I had to break up with him because he just couldn’t make a decision. Horrible but was the right thing to do.

I was in an abusive relationship with a guy who had 2 daughters and 2 sisters and I said this ALL.THE.TIME. I think men just totally separate the two, you’re worth a lot less than their family and not on an equal par to the superiority of their own blood. The last guy I was seeing constantly asked me for naked photos and videos and after telling him consistently I’d never, ever do that, I eventually said, ‘imagine your daughter is getting this harassment in a few years’ and he actually fell out …

“Irrelevant nonsense” eh no, use a condom, it’ll drastically reduce your chances of making a baby matey. God damn. I realise it’s not 100% effective 100% of the time but I’ve also been single the last few years after being in a LTR and without exaggeration EVERY man I’ve slept with has wanted to do so without a condom (there wasn’t hundreds but still, every. single. one.) Totally baffles me.

To answer your question - no. If you really want to meet someone OLD you have to put the legwork in and I decided to dedicate some time to it last year. I only ever met people who I found something in common with after messaging them, I’d never message for over a week - if they hadn’t asked me out by that time I’d assume they weren’t interested. I never ghosted anyone (although have been ghosted), and I was never mean, I’d tell them straight up it wasn’t for me. I never kissed on first date, nev…
