Its amazing to know I'm not completely alone in this. Friends pass stories of their "crazy ex" calling in the middle of the night and I smile and say "wow, that sounds awful". Alcohol seemed to be the biggest trigger for abuse and there were often two sides to her, drunk and sober. We were both living abroad together and this was of course the reason things were able to get so bad. Having no real support system around me I was stuck with her, at one point I tried to pay her to leave, but she just ignored it as silly.
