Thats how I feel too. I love period pieces, theyre my favorite. Wish they didn't include gratuitous sex scenes because for me it's not necessary. But im like you, im glad they get made at all.

Thats why when they ask you what you think of poly or any other thing, to keep in mind hes doing a temperature check because that's what he wants. Either to talk you into it if you've never done it, or to act a different way to make you believe there's a good chance he will be monogamous for you. If they ask the question, just assume thats what they're into.

I would never live with a man before an engagement or marriage, nor would I wait like that for a man to decide he wants to marry me. I dont care about a ring, I dont want one (I work with my hands). Im almost 50 and life is too short to spend years and years and years waiting for somebody to be ready to marry me. That just has to feel like shit. I couldn't subject myself to that.

Most ive met cant keep it up for long--maybe a month. But I did date one for a year and a half before the facade cracked. He was a pro with a perfectly crafted mask for me, one for his family, and one for his job, and another for friends, and super manipulative. Each persona was built entirely on lies. I think he was prolly clinical.

Ive dated some black men in the past. It's not gone well. Initially they view me as a novelty because im white with blond hair, not a human being. The ones I've heard put down black women as crazy, or headaches, I automatically wonder: what are you doing to give so many black women a headache? And I've faded away. Im turned off and run when they say they won't date black women. I feel I have more in common with a black woman because she is a woman that I do the man. The ones who made it past all…

The last guy I was seeing did absolutely exactly this. I made such an ass out of myself talking, repeating myself, telling him how I felt, etc. He really acts like he sees himself as a great guy, but just "emotionally traumatized" from his mom and past wife/gf's so he can't be in a relationship and flipped it around on me. He did every step of these things and just kept me around for validation, not even for sex. God I made a fool out of myself wasting my breath and my tears, it hurt me so bad. …

If you're looking on his phone,, go into Facebook and check what private groups he belongs to. I found my ex in 2 Swinger groups advertising himself as single, looking for a hot wife to bang while her husband watches, and offering dick pics to anybody who wanted them. He also belonged to some that shared explicit content and dirty memes. When you get to the group, search his name in the bar and it will pull up all his posts.

I had a boyfriend who didn't hide his phone or anything like that. He would often let me use his phone to play a word game that we both liked. One day out of nowhere my gut told me to look in his pictures. He had fallen asleep next to me while I was playing. I discovered dozens and dozens of naked pictures and videos of real life women, his own dick pics and videos he had traded with them, then I went into his Facebook groups he belonged to and searched his name in the groups to pull up all his …

I like 80s pop culture and stuff If I date younger guys its hard to relate to them. Plus quite a few of them think we should go Dutch on dates, or split bills if we ever got serious and lived together, etc. They also often think us middle aged women will jump at the chance to be their bang maids and moms because they think women hit a wall at a certain age. Nah I don't find shame in inter generational households--i lived in one when i was younger in my first marriage and we all knew and did our parts, I found alot of benefit to it. In these men I've run across lately is a total lack of household structure and accountability. These young people can't do nothing if the dad isn't rewarding them for doing nothing, you know? It might be serving the dads in the sense that he feels needed, he doesn't have to be alone, etc. But if he dies, his children wil…

I don't think it's harsh. I have kids and have never wanted to be a stepmom (I hated my stepdad) or make them have a step parent when I was still raising them. But if a guy has kids I'm totally down for being their friend-type of person. I know that things happen when we are adults and sometimes we might have to go back home for a while with our parents til they get on their feet again or complete a goal their working toward. I would want a man to respect that for my kids and be okay with it, an…

Your dad did a really good job at raising independent women, I am glad about that. I can relate to that lonely feeling to an extent. I think we all go through it when our kids get out on our own. Just what I've seen out of a handful of men that I've met to date lately, their kids have never left home. Aren't working toward any goals. Aren't living at home with dad for any purpose other than living like a teenager. He's paying everything. All they have to do is work for spending money. And I scra…

I can relate to the difficulty of an empty home and the child rearing being over, not knowing what to do. I felt for a long time like I didn't know what my purpose was anymore. I was glad but sad, too. But I gradually saw that they still need me as their mom. If they had a problem and needed to come back home for a reason I wouldn't hesitate to say yes. I'll always have their backs. But what I've seen lately out of these couple of guys disturbs me. If you're gonna be married to your nearly-30 ye…

Do you think he would even go? Thats not a rhetorical question. He might have gone for his wife at the last minute partly because he would've lost the practical benefits of having a wife around. Regardless, I haven't had this experience--my dad would've never made attempts to improve when he was alive. I feel for you and send you hugs. Our dads are often our first LVM experience and the most painful.

I have a daughter who is drop dead gorgeous. One of the most insecure people on the planet about her looks. I always tried to focus on her creative mind, kind heart, etc when she was growing up but I could never overcome all the adults who from the time she was little remarked her beauty, that she needed to be in modeling and why wasn't I doing that, etc. Its terrible what it has done to her and how men treat her.

Thank you so much. And you are right, its their problem. Last year when I got mad at myself for running over there to help her with her moving sale I thought, "All I do is run over here to help her. Ugh thats how she is too. Because I am 47, I would date a guy who lives with his mom/dad--under conditions. If he's got a solid job, and he's living with them to be near them as they're aging, or to make life more affordable for them. This really is a thing. And yes, there are men who actually do this for these reasons. Gen X is a sandwich generation right now. Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover saved my life years ago. And it set my 3 kids up for old school saving, paying for cash habits that are really taking them far and keeping them from debt serfdom. That said, I have a hard time listening to his show today. 15 years ago he was a Christian too, but seems like he's more out there and off the rails about it, and the tone-deafness that many conservatives have about poverty, unemployment and the cost of living that is beyond our control. (46, F) My parents think that my life isn't what it should be financially since my divorce 10 years ago because I haven't tried to land a husband, and that its because I am a man hater. I have almost no regrets in life, except this one. Each time I ever did that, it never did any good, it fed their egos. If I could go back in time and redo it, I'd instead act like I didn't give a shit. And then i'd quietly run off to ask myself why, in fact, im giving a shit about this moron and how did I get here in the first place.

He almost sounds like he's showing reverence to his mother thru the teen years in describing this woman's greatness. Send Dusty back to his mom.

Both of these things are true, and sometimes in order to get that measure of success, a person has to sell their soul. I value people who won't sell out, who work hard, who are honest and do what they're supposed to do. Sometimes life is about taking a painful loss after working hard toward something. What do they do with that loss? How do they respond to it and grow? Thats whats important for me to see.

Yep! They say they want smart and a woman with a sense of humor. But many dont truly want either one. Just smart enough to follow along to agree with them. Just enough sense of humor to laugh at their jokes.

Many men don't want a smart woman. They say they do. But what they want is someone just smart enough to read, write, agree with them and validate their shitty opinions. You dodged a bullet and he's shitty for not telling you about his child sooner. Good riddance to him. Byye, dusty!

I was raised by a pickmeisha mom (46, F). I was groomed from the time I was a little girl to be prepped for marriage, everything centered around being appealing so that a "good man will want you." I was never asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I was never prepared for college or any career. My brother was, and he got a PhD in Physics (they paid for his entire college except grad school). I quit high school at 17 and left home. I had 2 terrible husbands and have been divorced for 10 years,…

This would seem to apply to men who stay good friends with all their exes too. I cant stand that, I run. What is this? The ex girlfriend friend club?

I recently broke it off with somebody like this. If I ever hear someone say this again, it ends right there and I'm running. Dude ran my emotions through the wringer. If somebody is insecure or thinks you're out of their league, they'll sabotage the entire time then gaslight and say they couldn't live up to you--like it's your fault. They're just mind fucks.

Shoot. An electrician? Esp a union one? They make killer money and they're smart, and they go to college for it. Many people with other degrees have titles but don't make squat in comparison. I got no problems dating a union tradesman or a city/state employee. Or a railroader. They have nice pensions.
