Mainly because I remember embarrassment voiced from male friends as a teenager. As this was my only basis for knowledge, I came here where I could get perspectives from other than my immediate peers. Why do you have conversations like this on reddit (or similar places?) I know I do not want to sit around and circle jerk about the same old shit I already think I know.

Didn't mean any offense, but I am excited that I can get so many different stories from so many different perspectives. I may be having children someday, and I had always assumed I would circumcise my son/s. Everyone in this thread that is against circumcision of an infant should be glad-- you all have persuaded me.

OK, but this argument is true for many different things. He would be a different person if he grew up Jewish instead of Catholic, the oldest child instead of the youngest, athletic rather than scholarly, near a bunch of cousins or in the country away from tons of kids. Please tell me why circumcision is child abuse. Are you circumcised? If yes, please elaborate on how you think growing up would have been different? Would it have made your teen sexcapades more nervous? How has it negatively impac…

Oh woe is you. Just answer the question, or comment on someone else's comment. Your fight on semantics is not helping the conversation. Better luck next time.

Thank you for this response. I have no children and am also 29 [f]. I always assumed I would go for circumcision, but am realizing it is what I assumed was 'right.' Deciding to be a parent is hard enough, and I am so on the fence with circumcision even that part scares me further from breeding.

Live longer This may be foreign to you, but women live longer beyond their spouses. Women tend to see their spouses as something beyond a sex partner, so living beyond their lives is very sad. Men who live longer than their partners tend to live in less favorable conditions. (Suddenly they do not have someone cooking/cleaning/socializing with them on a regular basis) More money spent on their medical care and research On the surface, I understand your argument here. But do your realize that for …

You said you were terrified of going back to jail? Why were you in jail before this incident? What was the mistake you made in the (Vehicular Assault) incident? Just trying to get some perspective on where you were at this point of your life. I am glad to hear that things are looking better.

Condoms are extreme measures? I am faithful with my birth control methods. Not all women are. I have had flings try to go bareback so from my perspective men assume that all women are on some type of hormonal birth control (and seem to think they are immune to STDs). My point it that before it gets to the point of an accidental pregnancy, we can ALL be responsible when having sex not meant for procreation. I thought that was a large part of being mature enough for sex.

I understand moral hazard but thanks for the snark. More specifically it will reduce women who have unplanned/"oops" pregnancies because taking any birth control would be a big thing with no safety net. If you are worried about a girl lying about birth control (or not taking it correctly) can't you also double up with protection that you can see and trust? Condoms coupled with pull out?

I would like to ask a question, but please try to take a deep breath before insta-downvoting and getting too angry. If the reason women are willing to have casual/premarital/for pleasure sex is because they have this 'safety net' of financial security after childbirth, do you think allowing men to walk away completely from parental responsibilities will reduce the number of women willing to engage in casual/premarital sex? If yes, do you think it would change significantly? And would this be a t…

And what if dad gets a new family? They suffer while the ex still gets a nice hefty chunk of his paycheck. As I mentioned before, my boyfriend pays a hefty sum in child support. And sees his kid. I am extremely careful of preventing pregnancy for myself, and plan on being a step to his daughter. Just because he decided to find a new relationship (where we plan on children down the road) does not mean his obligations to his first offspring disappear. I think you have not thought this through beca…

Wait, controlling men's behavior by controlling women's behavior? Hasn't your age group died out yet? And if you are suggesting that we stick with the nuclear family as a unit on the basis of well, its what we have been doing, then why are you trying to change this welfare state? You can't really think this is all a manifestation since Obama came to office can you? Are you 13? Or 93?

I think the real issue is how many of these arrangements have to end up in court, because it is so difficult for both parents to work together to ensure the child is cared for without legal intervention. It is not a perfect system by any means, but it could be avoided if we were less money hungry, took initiative to be decent people, took pride in providing for ourselves and managing our responsibilities. The way our society is structured is changing, and has been radically since mid-20th centur…

It seems to me that you are making a case for reinforcing our Western's society of 'gender norms'. Some women are completely happy being stay at home wives and mothers. Some of us prefer the freedom to move away for education and career or adventure, without being tied down by family or marriage. There are lots of us on both sides. My argument is for everyone to get the know the people you sleep with a bit better. Let's say you are dating a someone who complains about their job instead of making…

Hey fair enough, strong gender trend. I still know plenty of sexual women, and prudish guys. How does this relate to the thread/argument? We are all still responsible for avoiding pregnancy (and STDs). The common theme in many of these topics is that it is up to the woman to decide what to do in the case of an unwanted pregnancy, and she should have thought about this before having sex. If we all stopped fucking unless we wanted to breed, who are the straight guys going to have sex with? Well, i…

This thread is about child support. Find an appropriate place to discuss the transfer of wealth from men to women through government programs, and I will follow you there. I would especially like to know more about how obamacare facilitates such a transfer of wealth. men are often still forced to pay for child support even after they prove they are not the bio father. This sounds like someone had a crappy lawyer, and would be the exception, not the rule, to paying for the rearing of a child. Bes…

I wrote about some of the cost coming from the other parent. In every child support situation that I have been privy to the details of support, the amount that comes in is well below 1/2 of the daily costs to care for a child. These cases range from very poor to middle class families. My boyfriend makes good money and sends a decent chunk to his baby mama. He also spends time with his daughter when he can, as he works out of town much of the year. Yes, she (the mother) is a deadbeat, but the mon…

Men can also shoulder some of the responsibility of avoiding pregnancy. Condoms? Withdrawl? (Please do not consider withdrawl as an only option) Or just trust that she is taking her pill faithfully everyday? So, quit yer complaining about getting laid.

Why would I assume they are all the same based only on gender? Different people have different sexual desires. I have a high sex drive, as does my boyfriend. I have ended relationships based on his not having a high enough interest in sex as I do. While sex is not the most important thing in a relationship, it is of great importance to me. I think that people do not have the same sex drive, but obviously these two both wanted to have the sex.

Works both ways. I have amazing friends that are single, or find just the jerks to waste time with until until that jerk shows his or her true nature. Normal, decent human beings are a rarity. If you are one, keep it up! If you find one, don't let her/him go!

Personally I would prefer sending a check instead of giving up my young never had a baby body, avoiding chewed up nipples, and giving up free time for leisure, education, and career to care for, feed, clean up after, educate another human being. And paying child support in no way covers the entire monetary cost of child rearing.

So you are saying that women should not sleep with men who would seem to be poor fathers. Why can't men make the same choices? Sleep with women who seem like they would have an abortion. Men and women are usually motivated by the same behaviors. We like intimacy, sex, orgasm. Pregnancy is always a possible outcome. And to your cause and effect argument above: how many times have you slept with women and trusted their birth control, without adding your own protection, like condoms and/or withdraw…

Caring for a child costs money. Why should the main provider of a child be demonized for wanting some of the cost to come from the other parent? I don't mean to say that you are demonizing, but that is where this conversations tends to lead around here.

Shaming based on a high sex drive? Yea, Limbaugh spouts all kinds of batshit crazy stuff, but can we stop demonizing high sex drives? (and low ones, or homosexuality, or whatever it is that consenting adults do in the privacy of their own homes?) While there are more important things to worry about, this is still a valid issue to be up in arms about.

I promise I am not trying to be rude or condescending, but this comment brings up an interesting point I have wondered about in the past. Babies are not free, even if you do pay child support, she is paying for all kinds of daily costs that many of us without kids do not realize. Other than food/clothes/shelter is doctor/dentist visits (and insurance), school supplies/expenses, does your child need glasses/braces/etc, day care, sports/extra activities, etc. Yes, no one should be fooled into fatherhood. My argument has not been with courts. The point I want to make is that you can also choose to add birth control. Leaving something like that in the hands of an untrustworthy girl/possibly faulty birth control seems incredibly reckless.
/r/MensRights16/11/11 09:30 PM

You are right, she must have just not gone after support. I have never been in this situation, and don't know many who have. Where do you guys find these girls anyway? Would it kill you to get to know her before you stuck your dick in her?
/r/MensRights16/11/11 09:29 PM

Yes, once the egg is fertilized it is up to her. We all understand biology, and sex is how the sperm gets to the egg. This leads me to the argument that sparked me to begin commenting in the first place: The assumption that birth control is up to the woman to take/enforce. And that guys are at the mercy of her trustworthiness. I simply wanted to point out that guys can decide to wear a condom, or pull out, or add spermicide. And say no to a girl that has a problem with that.
/r/MensRights16/11/11 09:25 PM

I thought your argument was that these women were using this as a means of support? Would this not counter act that mentality? Besides, what about the man who wants no part of the child's life? Is that not taking out his irresponsibility on that child? The point I am trying to make in all these posts is just this: Take it upon yourself to use extra birth control.

People are shitty, male and female. Cover your own ass. Don't trust random hookups, and get to know the person you are in a relationship with. If you are that paranoid, take the condom with you. Or flush it.

What do you mean women have no responsibilities merely having sex? And why can you not demand your partner allow you to wear a condom and pull out? Are you incapable of walking away once you thought you sealed the deal? Diminishing returns of welfare/child support would be my solution to combat support abuse. You couldn't afford that first? OK, one mistake. Now that you understand the consequences, for every next child you get less support.

What else do you want me to say? Yes, it is unfair. So is life. Was your farther not around to teach you that? (Neither was mine, but whatever. Live and learn.) All I can say is you know where babies come from. Figure out what level of risk you are willing to take when having sex. I mentioned somewhere on here before: I insist on picking any two from this list: condoms, spermicide, withdrawal (as I am not on hormonal birth control). So far no guy has put on his pants and left. Add extra birth control. Get to know a chick before you bang her. You will never, never, never find a situation where a woman is held to be responsible for a child she never wanted, because she has options and choices which free her from those responsibilities. Not all choice are easy for everyone. Some people see abortion as full on murder. And going through pregnancy and child birth just to adopt out is no cake walk either. These are my only points.

Fraud? If you could prove she 'stole' semen and turkey bastered it into herself, sure. But how often is this really the case? If you are that worried, pull out, come all over her, then be the gentleman to grab a towel and wipe it off of her. You look thoughtful, and she can't get that towel soaked stuff up her (I think). True you leave it up to her once she is pregnant. Thanks to biology, you can combat this beforehand by doubling up your family planning efforts. And if you bought a car with sig…

Oops, I messed up your comment with an edit, sorry about that. This is simply going in circles. Because the point I am trying to make (guess not clearly enough) is that men can use birth control too. DO NOT LEAVE IT UP TO SOMEONE ELSE. Got it? That is it. When the argument is that men should not have to wear condoms when she says she is on birth control, the answer seems simple. Or pull out and come all over her, then be the gentleman and grab a towel and wipe it off. This combats the argument that she could turkey baster that batter outta the rubber and into herself. Sorry about life, it'…

My point is that birth control is responsibility of both parties. The recurring theme in many of these posts is that men should not have to add extra birth control if the woman says she is on the pill/patch/shot whatever. These things are not 100%, nothing is. Why not date decent women with something going for themselves? Who are not looking for the Mrs degree, or live off of someone else. It is irresponsible to trust just about anyone to that extent, especially random hookups. I hope you are not in a relationship with someone you do not trust. Every option is a difficult one when faced with an unintended pregnancy. You could try talking about what choices you both would be comfortable with before having sex. Even if she chooses abortion, it can be a very difficult thing for a woman to go through. Please don't tell me that is the risk she runs having sex; the same can be said for your obligation to pay child support in the future. I understand its not a sexy conversation. If she lets him go bareback, that's her decision, too. Then you are leaving it in the hands of SOMEONE ELSE. You are giving up rights to complain about the consequences, because you let someone else MAKE THE DECISION FOR YOU. have her be in charge of what methods to use. You are still leaving it up to someone else. The responsibility is up to all parties, and if you are not comfortable with just the pill, let her know. Add condoms if she says she is on birth control. Or withdrawl. Nothing is 100% effective besides abstinence, and eff that shit. Or get to know a girl before you fuck her bareback and use her as a cum dumpster. If she is a douche bag, you will probably know sooner than later.
/r/MensRights16/11/11 05:04 AM

You have a right to choose to add condoms/spermicide/withdrawl etc to her "birth control." I use quotes because I know some women pretend to be on birth control. I assume you know that you can also add your own methods of birth control to sexual intercourse. Besides, condoms protect against STD(I)s.

He is still responsible because the pill is not 100% effective, even if used perfectly. It is still up to the guy to add withdrawl, condoms, or spermicide (or anything else I am not mentioning.) Up to the girl too, yes, but the guy does not need to leave ALL the responsibility to the woman. Assume ALL women you are sleeping with are not trustworthy, especially if you are sleeping around. And if you are in a relationship with a female that you are unsure of trust-worthy-ness, get over it; go out …

I'll bet the same amount of women who use sex and babies as a weapon is equal to the amount of men who try to get it on with without condoms (and just assume that the hormonal birth control us up to the woman). In which case the guy is just as guilty, even if he does not want the same outcome (kids). Controlling birth is up to BOTH parties, if a girl lets you ride bare back, BEthefuckWARE. Everyone could use a bit more sex education. Lets use this energy to combat abstinence only education.

OK glad to see these false-rape-claim-girls are getting what they deserve. Our next goal: un-demonizing girls who enjoy sex. For this particular case I need to say: I understand she was underage, but so was he. My point: I am IN NO WAY defending false rape claims, but us sexual ladies are too often called sluts and whores if we happen to enjoy the horizontal mambo. And this social stigma is a factor in the decision to make these fake claims in the first place, IMO.
