I remember when I brought this up once on another online forum and said that it's not okay for your partner to follow a bunch of "IG models" or to hang out with women without inviting you, and everyone was like "you're being so controlling, it's normal." If it's so "normal," then why would my ex get angry if other guys so much as looked at me? He was the type who'd always tell me how "jealous" I was because it upset me that he'd flirt with other girls and like thirst traps on Instagram. NVM just…

This is giving MAJOR Handmaid's Tale Vibes. I'm nauseous just from reading it.

Yesss, the whole "lots of female friends" thing always weirded me out. My ex had more female friends than guy friends and would often say it's because he had a sister and was comfier around women. It's just a harem... they pick the next girlfriend from the current circle of women.

I was briefly interested in this guy who presents as HV, but upon checking his Instagram I found that he liked several pictures of women in bikinis. Not "IG baddies/influencers," but women he had mutuals with. My interest immediately waned. I just find it so ridiculous that these guys spend all their time "liking" more provocative pictures and expecting IRL women to look like the facetuned/photoshopped images they scroll through daily. Like, I know you're single and she's pretty, but do you not …

Honestly. I would bring up therapy and mental wellness in my last relationship (not a good idea, btw---guys will usually use this against you when gaslighting), and my NV ex would always wistfully say, "Yeah, I've been thinking about going, it's good to get help." Reader: He never ended up going to therapy. Found out he was a narc and playing the "woke" game to keep me hooked. Run far, far away if they're not actively doing anything about their personality/mental health. (Cringing as I think bac…

I used to put up with this SO. DAMN. MUCH. with my ex. I'd been planning a date with him for almost a month (!) once and he cancelled an hour before because his parents were upset he was going out. The fuq? This happened at least two more times AND he had the audacity to bring his friends with him to the other "appointments" every time he cancelled. Nah. Anyways, date grown men who can keep appointments.

Totally random question but not really: I went to look at the OPSEC subreddit and accidentally clicked on that OPSA link at the top. Do you know what that is? Is it safe? Kinda freaked me out a bit, not gonna lie...

Exactly this! When you find yourself explaining basic human decency and compassion to another person... you need to run far, far away.

They start emotionally withdrawing from you (won't respond to messages, cancel dates last minute, are not emotionally present during conversations) They hide their phone (my ex would always bring his phone with him to the bathroom. When he placed it down on a table, it was always face down. He wouldn't let me read him his messages while he was driving, and would instead opt to text and drive. He also started keeping his phone on airplane mode, and would angle it away from me whenever he was look…

I would also like to add: if you have access to a therapist/psychologist/social worker, please please PLEASE tell them about your relationships. They will have insight that you might not have (due to distance, no emotional attachment, years of clinical experience, etc). My last therapist suggested that my (now-ex) boyfriend was seriously manipulative. I finally left what I now realize was an abusive relationship. Seriously, if you can, find a therapist to confide with and discuss your attachment…

How do you ladies see dating in a post-quarantine world? Or even in a current-quarantine world? COVID looks like it's going to be around for some time, and I think this is going to change the nature of the game, so to speak.

For real though, I've noticed the same thing. The weird social media mind games are too much. Good on you for letting the girlfriend know. Let's hope she makes the best decision.

Idk, my ex went to the masjid and he was cheating with a whole bunch of women. This was the case for a few of the other guys there as well, as I later found out. 😓 I think at this point: patterns of behavior > practicing. Some guys (especially the narcissists) like to present themselves in a way they know will attract Muslimas, but once they're with us that mask slips real quick. You really just have to keep dating like FDS mentions and being cut-throat with the selection process.

Yesss 👏 They really need to have mandatory classes in high school that focus on codependency and boundary-setting. It would have helped me so much when navigating my first relationship.

My ex had an alt. I'm getting to that point where if I so much as have a gut feeling that a man is being shady with his phone, I'm outta there.

If I ever have a son I'm teaching him to maintain his home/himself + help women. No way am I raising a kid who'll need another mother (maid?) when he wants to "settle down." Nuh-uh. I hope this woman finds a better partner.

Block. I blocked my ex on everything: Gmail, Twitter, even PINTEREST. Make sure he has zero access to you. That'll hurt his ego the most.

Kinda long, but get this: I dated a guy for nearly a year when we met in college. I was friends with his friends, and one of them, in particular, pushed us to date. Even before I really liked my now-ex, this individual was always hinting at us being in a relationship. Fast forward a year later when I Snapchat this person, asking them if they knew about all of the cheating and toxicity. Turns out they did, and they'd known since the beginning that my NV ex had a reputation of being a "s--t." (the…

YEP. This was my problem with my ex. Always telling me “they’re just my friends, they’re like sisters to me, I barely use social media, why are you sTaLKinG my likes??” Found out later that he was cheating/flirting it up with many of these women. Leave the minute they start playing these social media mind games, ladies!!

From what I’ve read in the handbook, FDS’s stance is that men being generous is HV, not necessarily the money itself, right?

Red Flags I Will Not Tolerate: Men who exclusively call me by their pet name for me. Men who like other women's provocative selfies and have a significant following of women on their social media. I'm not gonna compete with some pixels on a screen. Next! A man who cancels right before a date multiple times. Unless you're in an accident or you have a serious family emergency, you're keeping your promise. Stonewalling, gaslighting, or circular conversations. Absolutely NOT. Won't proudly show me o…

Also, if you're trying to get child support and you're going to court for it (and you and your ex live in separate countries) you may have to be in that country and physically show up to court for as long as the case lasts-- which could very well be several weeks or months! That means being able to afford lodging/rent/food anything else that comes up. Just an important thing to know if you're ever in that situation.

Oh this is so accurate. I wish I’d read this two years ago. My ex was the typical narcissist and he was definitely enmeshed with his mother. If she told him to stay at home despite him promising to take me out on a date, he’d cancel. If I asked to meet his mother he’d stonewall. He even told me how much his mother hated that he was dating me and wished he would wait until she found some girl from their country. He was manipulative as hell, too, but it sounds like his mother was just as toxic.

They give you a few pet names and never use your actual name (makes it easier to dehumanize you and cheat). Their circle of friends is always changing. You feel like every day there’s a new person they either hate or are best friends with (for more info look up “the narcissist’s harem”). They don’t have a solid sense of self. One minute they’re a die-hard indie rock fan and the next they only listen to country music. Same with clothing styles, activities, food, etc. They like pictures of other w…

I think there’s also the fear of the social backlash you face from breaking up with someone. I stayed with a NVM for WAY longer than I should have because I was scared of what he and his friends would do and how I would be perceived by our peers. Not to mention that he always hinted at how well-connected and dangerous some of his family members were. I dumped him and he smeared me. I lost a lot of “friends,” but I also learned that good people will stand by you, and the rest are weeding themselv…

Everyone’s saying that they’re terrible (I wouldn’t know, I’ve never personally met one) but I know, for example, that John Mulaney is head over heels for his wife. He has his own issues, but my take is that they’re just like regular people: some are going to have good energy, and others... Not so much. Also, what’s their humor like? If it’s all little jabs at women or jokes about their exes, I’d say “absolutely!” to your original question.

I'm currently in college and at the beginning of my relationship with my NV ex, we were having a conversation where he mentioned a friend of his who watched hentai (how this even came up in the convo I have no idea.) Apparently my ex's friend told his own girlfriend that he watched it, and my ex vented to me angrily, "even if you do watch it, you don't tell your girlfriend that." Guess who dumped her bf when she found out some months later that he was a porn-addicted player who loved "anime?" Ye…

I don’t know, I’ve seen some narcs/sociopaths who intentionally go for high value women and act the part of the charming + loving partner for a long time just to take her down later... It’s awful.

Yeah I’m honestly thinking this is the best bet. Keep it private and invite women to join after checking their profiles, or even have some sort of interview style thing to make sure no one is making fake accounts. It’s a difficult situation, not sure how it would be handled

I've thought about this too-- have the mods thought of making this private? Is there even a good way of verifying who's reading this subreddit? I'm worried that some men will use this to further manipulate women, but...idk.

I’ve never understood why shaming men who are polite or kind is such a huge thing, especially on social media. Younger boys see that message and think they have to “impress” women by being emotionally distant and narcissistic. Sigh.

Sammmee with Instagram. Oh, you’re a “private person” but you constantly like other women’s selfies, post pictures of yourself, and can’t commit with a single photo of us together on social media? Bye. Never dating a guy like that again, that’s for sure.
