Dude I thought men were made fun of for having an ick reaction to period stuff and now simultaneously also blamed for dying younger because they don't ick enough?

Yeah this was my reaction as well. One person is sad, multiple cops from the same area? That's suspicious. What fucked up shit did they do or cover for that ate away at them?

I don't know, and it makes me sad to think about.

It's been said before, but I'll repeat it here. If you want to kill someone and get a lenient punishment... ...Kill them with your car. It's ridiculous how lenient we are with car "accidents" compared to every other form of killing.

In some circles when a women cheats people ask what did the man do to sour her on the relationship. And in other social circles if a man cheats people might ask what wasn't his partner doing to satisfy him? Both of these are toxic and should be called out. In my lived experiences I haven't heard one gender react this way more than the other. It can happen both ways.
/r/MensRights14/03/23 03:43 AM

This is something toxic people of both genders do. They blame their partner for their own poor behavior. This isn't a gendered problem.

I've had this debate with people before... For the sake of argument: 25% of the graduates in a field are women and 75% men. Now if a company wants to ensure gender parity and hire 50% men 50% women in this field... How can they do this "fairly" given the pool of applicants. In effect this means for every woman hired, three equivalent men compete for one job. It creates an unfair advantage for the women. But every time I've tried to point this out, I get called sexist...I don't understand.

The most damning evidence of this is the online dating apps data on how people rate each other. Men rating women had a normal distribution but women rating men rated 80% of men as below average... (Less attractive) 6-16-18-20-19-15-6 (more attractive) Vs (Less attractive) 27-31-23-12-5-2-0 (more attractive) That's pretty hilarious... Grouped into 3 categories (<avg)(avg)(>avg) 40-20-40 Vs 81-12-7

I agree that the reaction he got seems disproportionate to the action taken. But I stand by the point that he should never have been touching her in any way without her consent. Every workplace I have been in has made this clear and multiple sexual harassment trainings have also reinforced this idea. You may not intend to cause harm, but you can still be creating a hostile workplace with very innocent behaviors. Everyone deserves to feel safe in the workplace and I urge you to reconsider why thi…

I have never once in any of my comments said people should be punished for sexual assault for that. But if you want to take an example of the least offensive touch and imply I think the harshest penalty should be applied to it then go ahead and be that way. It doesn't change the fact that touching someone without consent CAN get you in trouble. And you should not touch people you work with without consent. These are straight up facts. Why is everyone down voting me for this.

Ok, but bumping into someone is not the same as putting your hands on them. Keep your graspers to yourself. Also, It is implied by the context of the post that I'm talking about in the work environment. Not in crowded public settings...
/r/MensRights20/02/23 10:10 AM
-10

I disagree with your assertion that strangers touching me is inevitable. If I'm in public crowds at some event that is shoulder to shoulder then yes, because it's crowded, but I control my exposure to crowds, it is a choice, not inevitable. If I'm at work, no, fuck that.

Don't touch people unless invited to... It's not a hard concept, just don't do it. If someone offers their hand for a handshake then you can choose to take it or reject it. You wouldn't want them to just reach down and grab your hand right? Apply this same reasoning to any situation you might initiate contact with someone. Don't touch people. Don't.

This feels like a frivolous joke about gay promiscuity, but in the context of "unknown female perpetrators" it is earnestly accurate.
/r/MensRights25/01/23 07:11 AM

They demonstrated this with a social experiment with a couple on a bench in a park. They filmed passerbys as the man was verbally abusive towards the women, and the inverse, as the woman was verbally abusive towards the man. Tons of random people stopped to confront the abusive man, but I don't think anyone tried to confront the abusive woman. The empathy gap in our society is huge. Society doesn't care about make suffering as much as female suffering. It's quantifiable and measurable.

He did tell her he didn't want kids. He didn't tell her he can't have kids. The difference between these shouldn't cause you distress unless what he wants doesn't matter to you.

There is also a rise in men openly admitting to themselves and the world that they are gay or bi. As society becomes less hostile to those ways of expressing love people who always felt that way are free to openly be that way. This isn't a case of women rejecting men. It's people accepting love in all it's forms. This should universally be celebrated.

Construction worker takes that risk every year of their work life... Pregnant women face this risk every year they are pregnant... Do you want to guess whether the average construction worker spends more years as a worker or of a woman spends more years pregnant? Conservative numbers: Work 25 years, danger = 10 per year Pregnant 5 years, danger = 20 per year 25 * 10 = 250 danger points 5 * 20 = 100 danger points That makes the construction job more than twice as likely to kill you than pregnancy…

My comment was meant to indicate the "father" is never certain without DNA test but the mother is almost always certain (barring some weird baby swap). Not an indication that I think mother's stay with their kids more often...

Everyone should keep their own name and kids should always take their Mom's name since that's the only guaranteed parent...seems like the most obvious answer... I'm pretty sure that's how indigenous peoples track bloodlines heritage too. From the mother's side of the family.

I feel like the anger towards programs designed to help women is tricky. It's more frustration than anger, but frustrated men get called angry very quickly. Many issues that disproportionately affect men are more heavily funded by the state to help women. Examples are homeless shelters that don't let men stay because it makes women uncomfortable, or domestic abuse support systems that assume the man is the aggressor everytime. Suicide prevention. These are emotionally charged issues and anger ab…

I believe it was the Legislative branch that decided this when they wrote the law. The Judicial branch didn't decide anything, they ruled based on the language in the law. Don't blame judges for what your elected dipshits did years ago. I believe the wording of the law makes this circumstance not a felony, it's still rape and still a crime and still horrible and SHOULD be a felony, but because of the way the Legislature wrote the law, this doesn't count as a "felony".

Black people have been dealing with this on a whole other level for decades. Your perception of danger is almost never accurate. If it were accurate you would probably never get into another automobile.
/r/MensRights18/03/21 11:43 PM

This is nonsense. Some victims don't count because you don't value the reason why they were victimized? Sexist much?
/r/MensRights12/03/21 06:04 PM

My comment was about relative risks men and women face. Please re-read it. Your perception of danger is not evidence of actual risk.
/r/MensRights12/03/21 05:47 PM

But men should fear the strange man even more than women based on the stats of who the victims are. Men are the victims much more than women. So if women claim they have x amount of fear when confronted with a strange man guess what...men should have 1.5x amount of fear of that same strange man...so expecting empathy and guilt from men (the more likely victims) is pretty fucked.

It's earning not pay. Slight distinction. Many people falsely believe this means pay for the same job is less for women. In reality it is a reflection of the DIFFERENT jobs women have paying less on average than the jobs men have. So the net earnings of women is less than that of men. There are numerous laws in most places that make paying women less than men for the same job illegal. And it's obvious this doesn't happen because if a company could replace it's workforce with one that costs less …

This feels anecdotal and not particularly helpful. Many women have similar experiences with teachers or co-workers commenting on their bodies or other women's bodies to them. A study looking into how men and women discuss the other sex while in single-sex vs co-ed groups could be interesting. But this posts feels more like a rant about personal experience than a productive conversation starter.

It was popularized in the US by the cereal guy Mr. Kellogg. His main attraction to circumcision was because it decreased sensitivity and he theorized it would stop sinful boys from masterbating. That's right...every boy in America has part of his penis cut off because some religious nut thought it would stop masterbation. And why would it stop this? Being a housewife is not a real occupation. The only reason it ever was looked at as one was because people assumed women were too incapable of doing anything else. This line of thinking should’ve been left in the ‘50s. Being a "house-spouse" used to be much more of a full time job. I think back before electric washing machines and many modern conveniences and when home cooking was the more of the norm and not the exception, there were a lot more hours of housework for the "house-spouse" which a…

Your looking for the term "egalitarian" and it's a thing. But it's easier to convince others to hate something you've demonized than to change the world for the sake of goodness. It seems to me the main difference is circumcision has already happened to men whereas abortion is something that may happen to a woman in the future. So men are left to process their loss internally while women are able to continue their fight. In many ways the circumcision battle is already lost for you personally whereas the abortion right is something women can still lose personally so they have a bigger stake in that fight.

Sometimes the only way to induce empathy is to first induce pain. Some people struggle to abstractly place themselves in another's shoes. That lightbulb moment when a woman reacts negatively to the terminology and then realizes that's perhaps what men feels is the perfect teachable moment about why this language hurts the discussion. A realist may argue...the optimist by definition under expects failure and therefore overestimates his abilities and puts himself at idiotic risk time and time again. An optimist may view failure as a learning experience and therefore still a positive outcome and view the realist as a dumb pessimist who will never improve/change things in their life. Who is right? You can choose to think of yourself as an optimist instead of an idiot as the person you're responding to suggests in his first sentence. One man's optimist is another man's idiot. Actually teaching potential victims how to keep safer can actually make them safer. Men already know that rape is wrong so "teaching me rape is wrong" doesn't change anything. /r/MensRights03/05/18 07:10 PM

You're focusing on this from the girls perspective. The scouts are a safe place to explore same sex bonding which males in our society really struggle with. Introducing girls into the male group fucks all that up. Nothing you argue will change that fact. If a girl doesn't like girlscouts, CHANGE IT FROM WITHIN, don't break boyscouts. If the interests of the sexes are so similar then complain to the women running girlscouts that they should go camping and build stuff instead of baking.

Well you also have unintended consequences of too light punishments. Like this bullshit where a lady regrets sex and falsly cries rape to protect her "honor". Aren't they at least showing the existence of female on male sexual harassment though? And most of the show is played for comedy because it is a comedy. I went and read the comic "you should have asked" that was referenced there and it made me really mad. This mental load that they talk about is stuff that a lot of those men wouldn't worry about if they were bachelors. Why are they suddenly expected to pick up 50% of their partners neurosis? The conflict arises because of different expectations of lifestyle. I don't worry if I don't have mustard for dinner because it doesn't fucking matter enough to worry about that for even one second.

The other party won't make the connection unless you literally repeat the same thing gender swapped. Post a picture of a female athlete with the exact same text and wait until someone complains. Then post the side-by-side. It's they only way I've ever had any success pointing out hypocrisy. You need to make the other party feel outrage then embarrassed guilt. The 'ol one two punch.

That's probably true. I've had 6 fairly long relationships (year+) but perhaps getting up to 10's or 100's of partners can start to affect your mental state and ability to commit to one person. Kind of like the paradox of choice. The more options you have the less happy you are with you choice. Because choosing option 1 is forever eliminating options 2-100

I don't disagree with that from my personal experience finding a partner. But I also don't feel the need to shame others for experimenting a bit more first. Right I agree that now we have the technology to both prevent the spread of STDs and to accurately test who has them without need to refer to statistical likelihoods...but if all you know about person A is that they've hooked up with 1000 people and person B doesn't have the reputation, then you'll feel safer with person B. Until we all post our STD results regularly to social media and can check up on each other without directly asking an uncomfortable question...person B gets a slight bump.

Feels like it works for all humans regardless of gender. More contact with disease makes you more likely to be sick (less able to create value/more expensive to keep alive/healthy...therefore less valuable.) It's pure math with no judgement. Would you feel safer kissing someone who has kissed 1 other mouth or 1000 other mouths? If that was the only piece of information you had to go on, most would feel safer kissing the 1. Purely from a contagion stand point.

Only people in happy relationships 'love' Valentines. And even some of those hate the holiday. I'd wager more people hate valentines day than like it on any given Valentines.

This is my response whenever this pops up. They are complaining about how as a group they are willing to pay more for specialty items instead of the bland 'male' version and strangely in our capitalist market the pricing reflects that. "You don't pay more because it costs more, it costs more because dumb people like you a willing to pay it."

23% per male employee replaced with female. If the original company was 50% female then the personnel cost saving would be reduced by half to 11.5%. Still significant though if it were real.

Reminds me of a Louis C.K. joke about an almost hookup who the next day asks why Louis didn't just go for it when they were making out. He expresses concern that she was pushing him away and she says 'I like guys to just take me and hold me down'. His response was "are you fucking crazy? I'm just going to rape you on the off chance that you're into that shit?"

Judging how fair a system is by how equitable the end result is seems vaguely misleading. For example saying that there is discrimination in politics against women BECAUSE there are less women in politics is like saying it must be raining because the ground is wet...Just because A causes B doesn't mean that B can only be caused by A.

I agree that the system is unfair right now. But punishing the parent who initiates the divorce doesn't seem like the right approach. Picture an abusive relationship where your only option of safety (leaving) feels tied to losing your kids. In this case your proposed system would dis-incentivize the abused party from attempting to disentangle themselves from the abuser.

But until some women feel the pain of this they will as a collective group be very unlikely to back legislation that removes these laws. I'm not saying your friends situation is fair for your friend but it's definitely fair to apply these laws equally independent of sex. There are a lot of people who suffer from having their spousal support set based on income in boom times and can never get it adjusted during economic slumps. The whole system of spousal support is bullshit. But it won't become …

Yeah I'm definitely conflicted. The only reason I'm feeling happy about this is because these 'unfair to women' situations are the only ones that will get media attention. I'd love to have a fair system, but until then, these situations allow for the unfairness of the system to become more obvious to the general public.

I'm pretty against the concept of spousal support in general but I'm a huge fan of these reversal of the normal sex roles in spousal support because they highlight how unfair they are to men most of the time.

So what I saw was more women work part time than men so as a total they work fewer hours and earn less money. But when comparing only part time workers, women earn 5% more. So where is the problem? The problem is the types of jobs women work. Not their salaries.

Some men actually find there is more house work when you have a spouse because you often upgrade housing so your house itself is bigger, and in my personal experience, women can add to the list of housework things that bachelors might never do or even think needs doing. So it's two-fold. 1.) The house itself is bigger so there is more house to have housework for. 2.) New things get added to the housework list that "needs to be done" each week.

It's a question of supply and demand for sure. The article seems to think the problem is that the supply of men isn't matching the demand...but really the supply is fixed in this situation which means...the demand (expectations) must shift to meet this new reality. Don't complain that there aren't enough good men, maybe there are too high of expectations.

I think if we allow completely fluid adult relationships their is a chance that we may end up in a bell curve type situation. Woman tend to go for a more boring reliable type of man when they are looking for someone to be a father to their kids and a more dangerous exciting man when just looking for fun. Seems like those reliable boring men may now get shafted in their 20's AND then again in their 50's once they're done fulfilling their role as reliable father.

I remember this being discussed in a thread about the TV show Peep Show. One the humorous parts of the show are the incredibly disturbing thoughts the characters have (we view the show almost entirely from one of the characters internal view of the situation). Apparently having these horrible insane thoughts and then not acting on them is a way of proving our sanity to ourselves. And certain mental illnesses and impulse control problems can lead to people accidentally acting on these stray thoug…

This article is assuming that most of the non-working house wives actually do more housework than non-working house husbands. I'm not convinced of this at all. It seems like human nature if you're too lazy to get a job then you won't be motivated to do more than the minimum house work either.

It's not about who has it harder, it's about acknowledging that both sexes have issues in society that aren't fair to them. This sub is kind of a reaction to the overly feminist feminists who go beyond preaching equality and demand unfairness in their favor to make up for the inequality in the past. It's kind of how a lot of white people get offended by the phrase "black lives matter" and react by saying "all lives matter". Both phrases are completely true and most people would agree with both o…

You literally described how all humans think. We make up our minds about something AND THEN look for evidence to support it, discarding all data that goes against it. It is at the root of a lot of humanities problems. We don't base decisions on facts. These beliefs can change slowly over time. But it usually requires jarring cognitive dissident episodes that fuck with your world view. It's far easier to plant a seed of doubt in someone than to actually change there mind in any instant. Go farm t…

The whole point of the dating profile is to have a blunt direct "this is me" statement and a "this is what I'm looking for". The appeal is the efficiency of finding what you want without wading through as many things you don't want. Any deal breakers you can put in the profile just save everyone from wasting time. Yes having hard and fast deal breakers can stop you from finding someone who could work very well with you if you would have just looked past that one issue...But it also saves you ton…

You are wrong. There are laws and rules in certain states that say sex without consent is rape. And other laws that say you are incapable of consenting while drunk. Combined this means if you have sex while you are drunk you just raped yourself with the other person :P Doesn't cause a problem unless one of the parties regrets having drunken sex LATER and then claims rape. Because they were drunk legally they couldn't give consent so now after the fact they get mad and make it a rape for the 2nd …

If you are between the ages of 18-24 and are not in college aren't you more likely to get raped than if you are in college? Doesn't that demonstrate that college is a safer place...and not some place that needs guilty until proven innocent laws?
/r/MensRights05/03/15 01:32 AM

You either believe in innocent until proven guilty or you believe in guilty until proven innocent. The former system lets guilty parties go free to ensure innocent people are not unjustly punished. The latter lets innocent people get punished to ensure guilty people are punished. You can't have both. In America we claim to value protecting the innocent over punishing the wicked which makes these cases so interesting to watch.

This article is assuming men have always in the past wanted a family and children. I don't believe this is the case. We live in a time when sex and pregnancy have been separated from each other and women are finally seeing that a lot of men only wanted the sex and relationship...but not the children. They were just unavoidable in the past. I personally think kids look like way more trouble than they are worth. I don't give a shit about passing on my genes and I know I'm too selfish to devote tha…

I am not a great person to answer that question because I never had any problems with how the school taught us other than the pace being too slow. You'd have to ask someone who actually struggled in school. As far as I'm concerned there was no problem with my public school.

It's one of those instances of people preferring no guilty man go free as opposed to no innocent man being punished. It's realistically impossible to have both of these simultaneously. These women feel like they'll never be in the group of innocent people being unjustly punished so they don't seem to care as much about that potential tragedy. To them they'd rather sacrifice a few innocents than let any guilty party get away with rape. They really need to reread The Crucible. :(

I think the most succinct answer is that we are for equality and pointing out hypocrisy. Sometimes equality is more controversial than other times. And I think some of the bad press on this sub can be attributed to a small group of angry men who are also attracted to the good parts of this sub. Anger makes everyone less rational and makes people say things they might not mean if they had time to process their thoughts clearly. Time lessens all wounds.
