I’m one who SSRIs don’t work for - so perhaps I can give the other side. I had all of the side effects you’re worried about, plus anorgasmia too! I instead deal with my negative emotions by planning so that I always have something for me to look forward to outside of my husband, son and work. Ensuring that my diet is 90% extremely healthy helps too as does a huge amount of outdoor running. This is my maintenance stuff now - when I’ve been having a peak of feeling bad, I do extra stuff that makes…

Horrifying the trad cons? I’m heavily tattooed. I wear the clothes my husband likes - not what you’d necessarily think of as feminine clothes. I have short hair. I find my career more fulfilling than being a SAHM was - although I do think there’s a lot of value in staying home at least until the children are in full time school. And to horrify the feminists? I believe in the man being the head of the household, I regularly do as I’m told, I do the housework despite working full time in a demandi…

I dealt with this ten years ago when I was dating my husband. He’s now super verbally affectionate, so here’s what I did. I waited for him to say it first. He was uncomfortable doing it, but I knew he had loved me for a while at that point and I’m sure it’s obvious that I was in love with him. I then went on a campaign of telling him I loved him allllll the time. I also told him I was doing this, made it into a giggle little game and essentially de-sensitised him. For specific examples - I’d wak…

I guess I’m simply taking the post at face value - OP wants advice on how to be more fun. I can’t possibly know the real ins and outs of their relationship - complaining about her not being as fun as the other woman might well just be a smoke screen - but I can give her what she asked for!

You can be a calm quiet person and also fun. I am! I just made my husband laugh with a little comment on the YouTube video he was watching. I try to make little moments of lightness through the day - regardless of whether I’m at work, looking after our son or with my husband. Some of my personal ‘stock’ ones are - presenting him with his meal/a snack in a silly, over the top subservient way - I’ll address him as ‘My Lord’ while I do it. Never fails to make him laugh and kiss me. I’ll lean in to …

This is NOT how this works in my experience. I am a very high libido woman. I’d still happily go every day and I’m 40 and peri-menopausal. High sex drive women seem to translate to bad for a LTR for men. All of the (three) men I’ve had LTRs with have expressed a desire for my sex drive to be lower. I think it makes them feel insecure - that you’re likely to cheat. What they want in a LTR is, I think, a woman who will respond enthusiastically to their desire and have a lot of fun - but who doesn’…

You poor thing - sounds like you’ve been through a lot there! I hope this helps - the more I lean in to my femininity the more joy I find in my life and the more people (in general!) seem to be attracted to me in every way. With BC - I’m taking specifically about the effect of messing with the female hormonal cycle. The pill convinces your body that you are pregnant (kinda - it’s complicated) and it means that women on the pill are attracted to different men to those the same women are attracted…

I think that modern ‘feminism’ has an awful lot to answer for in this. I agree, there are so many feminine men out there and so many masculine women. It’s almost like we have all just moved to a weird androgynous place. I include myself in that too - I used to think less of myself for being in any way ‘girly’. To achieve in school and university boys and men have to be more feminine, to appear harmless to women they have to appear more feminine. I wonder how much hormonal BC has to answer for th…

I think it’s how they work best, certainly. Since I’ve been here my relationship has got from decent, with a few particular issues to better than I thought it could possibly be. It requires a definite type of man though - my first husband could not make a decision to save his life and it was one of the things that drove me mad about him. My husband now is a proper leader, happy to steer the ship and I’m a very content first mate! Our son is absolutely thriving.

Surely as a RP sub - it should be obvious to us that a HVM will be one that has all of the traits an individual woman values in a slightly higher level than she has them herself? Women marry up, right? In my own case, one trait I value is openness to ideas - husband has been known to argue the case for Pol Pot’s political ideas as a thought experiment. Which is a rather silly example, but a good one. So if you, OP, value intelligence and are a smart woman yourself, then it makes sense that you w…

I don’t t understand why women do this - but it has been a pet hate of mine for a long time. I used to run a Mum’s group but stopped in the end because it became a game of ‘who has the shittiest husband’. It was horrible. I have no female friends as a result of this really - I’d love to make some, but I don’t know where to find women like me, especially as I’m not religious.

No more kids for us! We are both happy with the one. Care of our son is actually roughly equal - I often work weekends so husband is in charge then and he does about half of the morning school runs. When I qualify we will be able to afford some help, but not right now.

Thank you. You’ve inspired me to get a bit more organised about things too - I probably haven’t been giving 110% on my days off. I’ll get that in check before complaining about him. He’s wonderful!

I’m a midwife - so similar intense job. I find that focussing on my transition to home and having rituals that get me out of that work headspace and into home headspace really help. For me, that’s relaxing music on my commute home, having dinner already made for us when I get home (I make it the day before usually), changing out of my scrubs and into cute loungewear.

He did have these done roughly two years ago, everything was good except for his vitamin D levels (he was there for fatigue). Actually, he has been tired the last few weeks - maybe I’ll buy him some more vitamin D supplements. It’s probably not the cause of this issue - but I had forgotten!

The sex is dull, as though he’s only there so he can tick a box on his to do list. Roughly once a week/three times a month - although at times it’s been far less. He’s 43. I do let him lead, I let him know how attracted to him I am reasonably frequently, but do not try to get him to have sex. I’ll look into tantra - although I doubt he’d be interested, I imagine you have to discuss it, he dislikes talking about sex. When we have discussed sex, he just says things like ‘I’ll sort it’. He really d…
