Male, 43. Highly difficult. Wouldn't know where to start really.

I like having friends and bonds, I just want to be able to turn it off when I'm feeling like I want to be alone.

Basically there's no male moe characters.

Performed masculinity is something that to an extent neither sex actually wants, and yet both are expecting it to be there. Probably people are looking for it specifically because it's difficult. Women are looking for the best men they can find; whatever will signal that and cull the unwilling from the herd is a useful thing.

They're focusing on "dating" when they should focus on learning how to strike up rapport and maintain bonds with humans generally. The thing of it is, I don't really like humans generally. I like them specifically, when they're my friends already or we share a common interest. I just want to find an equally misanthropic girlfriend.

And what OP is saying is that you're helping yourself at the expense of the greater good.

Why do you care about this so much? Because we're trying--or at least, I'm trying--to suss out why women give hints to men that they don't get. So, was it just lunch, was it a date to try to find out if you would be a good couple, or were you not sure of which it was?
/r/PurplePillDebate18/10/22 07:41 PM

For the same reason it was difficult for him to understand. Either you didn't know that you might want a relationship with him, or you did but you wanted to put him on the defensive. Those are the only reasons not to be blunt about your intentions.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/10/22 07:31 PM
1

Maybe. I don't think so, but in any case, my point is that you said what you said because you were trying to evoke a specific reaction, not because it was what you really thought. And that's what men do complain about.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/10/22 07:17 PM

who can't even tell if she finds a man attractive or not by looking at him. ...that's normal for women. Most men don't expect you to go on looks alone.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/10/22 07:14 PM
1

But I wouldn't have known if he's sexy until after getting to know him well. Right, but why didn't you tell that guy that? "I'd like to get to know you better to find out if I'm sexually attracted to you," you could have said.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/10/22 07:09 PM

Then he would have been thinking about me as a potential date instead of a friend from the beginning, ...but didn't you want to potentially date him?
/r/PurplePillDebate18/10/22 06:55 PM

Bahahahaha! You’re never getting a gf if you’re waiting on this. No, but women might get more boyfriends if they did it.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/10/22 06:43 PM
2

No, I got that, but that's why I said, "Let's continue the conversation to see if we want to be bf-gf." I'm not saying that you had to commit, but it would have been your goal to find out if you wanted to commit.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/10/22 06:32 PM

No, you asked him out to lunch, full stop. That could mean that you're hungry and don't want to be seen eating alone. It could mean that you want to be friends who eat lunch together regularly. It could mean that you have some particular point regarding the specific conversation that you were having that you don't want to left unsaid. I think that, when women talk to other women, a lot more communication happens than when a man is involved. I'll never forget witnessing this interaction between t…

No, but what you could have said was something like, "Hey, I think you're pretty cool. Do you want to have a longer private conversation sometime to find out if we want to be boyfriend-girlfriend?"
/r/PurplePillDebate18/10/22 06:01 PM
2

Here's my flip side of that as a man: I want to be treated as an object. I want my sexuality viewed as a thing in itself, not part of my overall personality. Men will lust after a sexy woman even if she's a complete Karen, but a man who yells at waiters or laughs at the misfortunes of others is seen as less sexy. That means we have to constantly put on a performance if we want to have sexual partners. Getting off should be a right, not a privilege. Especially when I'm already horny and in the me…

The question is: what other qualities can the bad-hygiene-no-dentist-niche-hobby-chicken-tender guy improve on so that he can date women without having to give up what he sees as fundamental parts of his personality?
/r/PurplePillDebate15/10/22 03:09 PM

I'm financially stable with a good job, no debt, and money in the bank. I don't do drugs or drink. I'm a reasonably good conversationalist and I can make you laugh if your tastes run to puns or reference jokes. I shower every day. I have been told that I'm good in bed. (by a woman) I'm a good cook and willing to make you meals. Flaws: I'm fat. I don't keep my room clean. I'm not really into doing cool things like dating.

The problem that I have, which I think is fundamental to the PPD, is that you call the latter concept "higher" than the former. I think that women generally think that their idea of sexuality and attraction is also "higher" than male sexuality. The first problem I have is with the idea that, because one is more difficult to accomplish than the other, that it has more value. In general, I have a problem with that as a philosophical prospect. Sometimes the instinctual, base achievement should be c…

/r/PurplePillDebate07/06/22 07:26 PM

I mean, you can just say that no, you're not interested in sex. Maybe he'll not want to be friends, which gets you to the same result. Or maybe he will, and you'll still have the platonic friendship.

don’t friends usually help each other out and buy each other things. No, not always. There are plenty of friendships where the people just hang out. Everyone pays their own way, and they're not really depending on each other for help.
/r/PurplePillDebate07/06/22 06:10 PM

Because I think it's more in character for women to be indiscriminate as to how many friends they have, and who they are. Friendships, to women, are mutually beneficial at worst, a one-sided benefit to her at best. But to a man, friendships can represent a call on his time and mental energy. He's more selective with his friends; he only wants the ones he can really let loose and be himself with.

While men will accept living in filth and minimalism they actually prefer a composed comfortable clean organized space. Sure, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's possible to want something for free but be unwilling to put in the work for it.

I don't think it's narcissism so much. I think women more instinctively understand how to use language in the optimal way to get what it is they're after, while men are more likely to say what they think even if it results in failure.

If you don't have time to waste, then you're wasting too much time. Everyone needs to figure out their life so that they do have some time to nothing. If for no other reason than if you have every moment scheduled, and an unexpected event happens that calls on you, how can you do it?

This is my eternal question of relationships: how do people who enjoy not being around people find that one person who also enjoys not being around people, so they can be around each other and let that be enough?

I don't expect men to give a shit about my feelings over their personal safety, especially if they don't know me/are just meeting me. I'm not sure you understand me. I'm saying, don't expect men to give a shit about what you want, if you don't give a shit about what they want. The fact that you value safety over reputation doesn't mean that they do, nor does it mean that you're objectively right.

Why is the right not to be done more important than the right to do? Is this a sincere question? The right ‘not to be done’ AGAINST YOUR WILL is more important than the right to ‘do’ AGAINST THE OTHER PERSON’S WILL. What is unclear in this? Why isn’t the right to break into someone’s home equivalent to the right not to have one’s home broken into? This is not a straw man argument. This is a metaphor and not a completely illogical comparison. And if this seems like too extreme a comparison to you…

These are not equivalent concerns. Men's feelings and boners are not as or more important than women's safety, no matter how much misogynists want to pretend they are. Do you understand why that attitude would make men feel diminished and inferior? You're not SUPPOSED to gain anything personally from basic human decency (other than, maybe, the self-satisfaction of doing the right thing). People don't do things without a motivation. If they're not supposed to get anything out of doing the right t…

People (men and women) have the right not to be abused or harassed for refusing someone else's desire to have sex with them. Why is the right to not be done to more important than the right to do? No person's failure to achieve casual sex is ever equivalent to the violation of another person's physical safety. That depends on the person. If someone beats me up, I wouldn't like it, but I also wouldn't feel that I'm weak for it. If I live my life without anyone thinking I'm attractive, I would. So…

You cannot seriously think that this would go well for any woman? Who is more likely to NOT react badly? A man who has a face-saving excuse for failure or a man who feels (rightly or wrongly) insulted which exacerbates his failure? How many actual men do you think would receive that message and say "Why thank you for your constructive criticism, I will work on that. Have a great day!" Maybe not. But my point is that someone should be concerned for the man's failure as much as you are for the wom…

The man's goal is to have sex with a woman who doesn't want to have sex with him. No, the man's goal is to find a woman who is willing to have sex with him (and then to do so), of which this encounter is an instance of that pursuit. The woman's goal is to avoid having sex that she does not want to have, with a man with whom she does not want to have sex, and to do so in a way that minimizes the danger to her and may consequently spare his feelings btw (i.e./, lying and telling him that she has a…

I've come to accept that women evaluate risk differently from how men do. It's probably also part of why there's more concern with unsupervised children and "stranger danger" these days. You could even say that there's a good evolutionary reason for it, that women's and children's lives are more valuable to the species than any one man's. I just need more women to understand how men can be more risk-tolerant without being reckless.

What I don't like is the attitude that, because women are concerned about their safety, men owe them equal concern; but by contrast women owe men nothing. In other words, let's say that a man propositions a woman and she, for whatever reason, rejects him. Maybe she doesn't find him attractive, maybe she's a lesbian, maybe she has a boyfriend. But, because of her concern for her safety, instead of just saying what the reason is, she has to calculate her rejection to be what she thinks will be the…

Confident & flirtatious (or sophisticated) humor > self-deprecating or 'childish' (poop jokes lol) I think most of my friends would call me the funny one, but it's the kind of funny by puns and reference jokes. That's not either of the above categories, but it's also not the attractive kind. So, it's a very specific kind of funny. I think when women say that a sense of humor is important to them, what they really mean is that they don't want someone overly serious, not necessarily that they want…

I agree with this, and it's why prostitution is cold comfort. Because the sex worker doesn't really care about the man, just about his money. Now, that can be useful to the man; at least they respect his earning power, in a way. The point is, men need the psychological boost of being approved for who they are, and for that to happen we need to break out of valuing men only for what they do. Even if you're not a particularly nice man or a helpful man or an unselfish man, even if you're a jerk, yo…

This is why 'Ukrainian Women' shot to the top of the search bar on porn sites all around the world in lieu of Ukraine being attacked. Let's nip this in the bud and stop "in lieu of" from meaning "as a result of." It means "instead of." That's why obituaries will say things like, "In lieu of flowers, please donate to {charity}."

It's part and parcel of the feminist ideology. It's the same as when they don't want to take anti-rape measures and say, "I'm not preventing a rape; I'm only preventing my rape." Men don't tend to think that way. Like, yeah, I'm a little worried about getting attacked in the street, so I have a plan for how to stop that (not the least of which it to avoid walking in unsafe streets). If that means that someone else is going to get attacked, well, then their plan wasn't as good.

Don't laugh at booze. Alcohol is ridiculously useful in a primitive society. In the first place, it's something everyone wants and is your best trade currency. In the second, it's medicinal and can disinfect wounds and kill pain. In the third, particularly with beer, it's calories that are easily portable, easily storable, and don't spoil. And if you brew short beer, it hydrates you as well with lower risk of waterborne diseases. Alcohol is the first step of civilization.
