Basically word for word the story of the last 3 men I dated, down to the dinner invite 6 months later. I stopped dating two years ago, after the last one. Your 30s are an absolute minefield of avoidant men and I am done.

Don't beat yourself up too much, boundaries and standards really take time to solidify with experience. I remember giving a second date with a guy like this too - when I first met him, I had just come from a friend's gathering and was a champagne or two in, so my judgement was totally off (and this is why you stay sober on dates, kids). By the 2nd date I realised I wasn't into this whiny little indecisive manchild at all and was kicking myself the whole time as to why I even considered a 2nd. He…

My dad is like this and I suppose from growing up with that I don't tolerate a man raising his voice at me, not even once. Probably the only boundary I have ever maintained.

The score for Soul was absolutely beautiful! I've always been a casual NiN listener over the last few decades and I never expected such a stunning musical diversion for him. He's super talented and his statement on Manson makes me respect him even more.

Is there some kind of straight woman conversion therapy cause after this post I think I want to switch sides.

I went through a similar experience. I had actually consented to going home with the man but blacked out before the acts took place. I have zero recollection of anything after my last wine at the restaurant and I have no idea what I said yes to that night, other than 1 frame flashbacks. It haunts me a lot, 3 years later. I have absolutely no idea whether to call this consensual.

Yeah I cannot believe the lack of foresight with some of these new developments. It is still "cram as many people in as possible" even in the most undesirable outskirts. My co-worker got one of these house + land packages and it's ridiculous - her house is literally BUTTING ROOFS with the house next door, it's that tightly packed. And for all this, she still has to DRIVE HALF AN HOUR just to get to the train station (then another hour on the train to work after that!). If my commute is going to …

I know right? But it's just Gen Y/Z being "entitled" to not want to have to travel 2 hrs work each day, whilst paying $1mil to live in a poorly designed shoebox in an amenity-less fringe suburb.

Same here in Australia. Obscene prices across the board. The only people I know who have bought property at my age (30s) have either recieved a large inheritance, or are part of a couple who both earn 6 figures or close to. As you mentioned, it's not the servicing of the loan that is the issue for most (as our rents are sky high too) - it's coming up with the 100k+ you need for a deposit WHILST paying that rent. It used to be solely the largest metro cities but the unaffordability has spread to …

Can you please email this to my 2014 self? Thanks from present day me. I find the only sort of people who do this are people who have been abused but haven't gone to therapy/healed or built boundaries and are insecure. Just listened to a true crime podcast that fits this topic actually - look up Lisa & Joel Guy if you have the stomach for it. I won't go into too many details because this crime is absolutely abhorrent and EXTREMELY graphic, fair warning... But to sum it up: their pathetic, coddled neckbeard of a son mercilessly slaughtered them in a piss poor attempt to claim their life insurance because they told him they were cutting his financial support off (at 28 years old). Yeah, if I wasn't childfree eno…

The relationship didn't last much longer after that, thankfully. That was the most uncomfortable gift I have ever received. I remember playing it cool like it was no big deal, but inside I felt like I had been hit by a truck - by the sudden realisation that this man who called me "the woman of his dreams" did not give enough of a damn to learn anything about me after months of dating. I was a social trophy and everything he did was completely performative.

Definitely not a new tactic. Had a guy drop it in a totally G rated convo about hobbies a few years ago. He enjoyed "painting, long bike rides, sex, woodwork". It was so fucking bizarre and skeezy, I should have blocked there but my dumb pickme ass tried to ignore it and still went on a date with him (spoiler alert: he was a creep). It's how they test the waters.

I know 100% what you mean. Rug pulling and all. I feel similarly towards this particularly bad narc I dated a few years ago. I had to actively turn my rage from myself to him, I still struggle with not blaming myself.

Yep, and if he's with her longer than he was with you - you know instantly she has poor boundaries and low self-esteem. This narc I dated for just 6 weeks was the most vile, selfish, little microaggressive man - I saw him slowly change in those 6 weeks from a lovebomber into something really red-flaggy and unbearable. Shortly after I cut him loose - he found another chick who he is still with to this day (2 years later). I can only IMAGINE how much this poor girl has put up with. There is not a …

Pretty much. Every time I let one of these creatures down gently after a meet up, I'd get an indignant response or in one case ‐ an essay detailing why he deserved to date me. The last one actually made me angrier than the petty insults.

"5'8" is the undeniably‐short man's go to, every time! I got the same from an old tinder meet up. Like, dude, I'm 5'2 - I am pretty lenient about height to begin with, the lie was totally unnecessary.

Hmm, my experience doesn't really line up with this. I've had men chase me ferociously from the beginning when I initially felt lukewarm but open to giving them a chance. Then they've become avoidant or complacent once I have given in and they "claimed" me. Never stop vetting.

Omg that reminds me of the time (many moons ago) that I bought a Lush shower jelly (an absolutely ridiculous product, may I add) - and the glitter "shards" on top actually CUT ME in the shower. I'm not even going to go into the disastrous experience I had with their facial skin care...good lord, half of their products are literally experiments on you - the customer. And lush fans pay for the privilege?!

Period panties are my jam nowadays, but I never managed to work with cups. I found my cramps increased significantly with the suction, and even the smaller cup was noticeable in there. I figured out that my uterus drops super low on my period and I think it probably leaves no room for the cup?? That's my theory anyway. I have tried many times to get it to work and it is just no bueno. Breaks my heart, as I love the ecological aspect of cups and hate that I need to use tampons when I work out.

I love this. Lately I've been struggling to forgive myself for having had zero self-respect with men throughout my 20s, and this sounds like a nice meditative way to come to terms with my past.

watching their moms work full time while also doing 100% of the domestic duties while their dads were fat lazy slobs and watched tv from the time he got home from work to bedtime, except for the occasional “discipline” (losing his temper) Were you filming my upbringing sis? I have spent the first half of my 30s trying to undo the damage caused by being raised in this very household dynamic. The pickme mindset was instilled into my very core by my hardworking but ultimately spineless mother.

Similar experience here. Was pretty worried about getting it put in due to the overwhelmingly negative internet feedback, but I cannot tolerate hormones so figured this was my last resort before I gave up. It's been 3 years and the only side effect I have is 2 or 3 days of very light spotting before my period. No heavy periods, no extra cramps, no infections. I will say that I have never had heavy periods though, so I was probably a good candidate for it.

Truth. My dumb pickme ass took the bait on an ex-situationship "hey" text once, and boy did he show his colours again quickly. Went from apologetic "woe is me" to petty ass tantrum in about 3 exchanges. Don't really know what else I was expecting tbh.

I read a book a little while ago that briefly covered the historical timeline of computing, and I was shook by how many contributions women have made to the field that I knew nothing about. It is absolutely SHAMEFUL that women have been pushed to the sidelines in IT when we literally helped build this shit from the ground up.

When I started at my workplace as a timid 20 year old temp 15 years ago, I remember being accosted in the lift by this older woman who told me in no uncertain terms that I needed to "smile more", as I was too sad looking apparently and that would get me nowhere, jobs wise. I now greatly out-earn her in a different, technical department and see her round the building looking a million times more morose than I ever did. I've always asked this question of men I've dated too. It will tell you everything you need to know about him. Now, if I hear his range is set to anything greater than under 5 years as a 30+ year old, I'm outta there. I have two examples of emotionally inept, narcissistic, whiny little man children who told me they dated literal teenagers in their late 20s. Both of these men could have been avoided if I had bailed at hearing that piece of trivia.

Make that 3 of us! These narcs are all cut from the same cloth. Sometimes it blows my mind that psychology has them defined with such pinpoint accuracy, and yet we are not warned about these people growing up.

I had one of these too. I said sure, let me know the time and place....crickets. The evening came and went - and the next day, I get a "huh what happened???" from him. I don't know mate, you tell me? Were you abducted by aliens for 2 days? I literally sent the last message, and this guy was waiting on me to chase him down for it. FOH. He gave off these real passive, "my ex-girlfriends ran my whole life" vibes and that really cemented my suspicions.

You're in the right place. Pull up a chair girl, the refreshments table is to the left. This is why having children with a narcissistic man is just a terrible idea. Being the product of a pickme mother and a narc father has affected my entire life, whether I realised it at the time or not.

Oh hi, are you me? My dad got a redundancy at around 30 years old and from then on he was a pot smoking "musician" who never played anywhere. Let my mum have nervous breakdowns through several horrendous minimum wage jobs to support our family of 4, and always complained we "weren't supportive" because we hated his music and always asked him to turn it down. My mum never left him though, sigh.

Man I had a similar reaction post - narc (several years ago now) that in hindsight really blows my mind with just how severe it was. I basically stopped eating for 2 months or so, my hair fell out, the lot. This ugly scrote wasn't worth a single hair strand on my head, and I genuinely don't understand what on earth I could have been so upset about but at the time, my body and mind just shut the fuck down. Happened to me, more than it should have, but the most notable example was a broke, barely employed, almost 30 year old "games journalist" slob who lived in a decrepit student house, even though he was not a student. "Oh we're just friends", I overheard him say to someone at a party we attended, 6 months into living in each other's pockets, me driving his license-less ass around for work when he needed it. I think as a general rule - if you love your animals, you need to date someone who also loves animals (and likewise if you don't). I have tried many times to incorporate men who don't like my pets into my life, and there is always this underlying discomfort no matter how much I have tried to accept them. Like they can never be a part of my life & household unit together (I have had pets all my life and I ain't ever changing that), so ultimately there is no future in the relationship from the ver…

I've known a few women who turn extreme pickme for gay male friends. They'll put up with all sorts of misogynistic language and treatment with the justification of "oh he's gay, he's harmless and just like a sister!". These women tend to not realise that in the friend circle, they are always on the "outer ring" and always take 2nd priority to the men in the group. But hey, women are just "tOo mUcH dRaMA" huh sis. It's the gay twist on "just one of the boys/not like other girls".

For the longest time, I believed I may have BPD because of how I acted with my first BF (teens to early twenties, 8 years together). Looking back I realise I was just a naive 20 year old whose anxieties were triggered constantly by an incredibly avoidant, emotionally inept dude. 10 years post-breakup, I have never repeated the behaviour with anyone else after him, and he's never dated again....enough said.

I felt chills watching this, it wasn't a narc ex of mine who drove me to that sort of hoarse screaming, but a narc BFF. She sat there calmly and rolled her eyes like I was just a lunatic to be disregarded. Long story I won't go into, but after months of asking her to be respectful of our living space and working hours and having her ignore my requests, I just snapped. Not my proudest moment but at least I recognize that sort of narc abuse now.

This is what really got to me as well, and it was also a strong reminder to go with your gut. Your gut is never wrong. Poor Shanann suspected cheating and she was told to downplay those suspicions with her friend's well meaning but dangerously dismissive niceties. Her gut was screaming that something was wrong the whole time and it freaking WAS.

Oh for sure, fuck him and all of them - sideways with a cactus. I just often wonder if I would have made the changes I needed without him being "the final and worst straw". Dating a narc used to be the worst thing that happened to me (well, immediately after). Now, 3 years later? One of the best. It caused me to deep dive into my own upbringing and dating history, and I have discovered and learnt so much. I am not even remotely the same woman as before. 100%. Every time I see this kind of attention/praise seeking behavior, the woman is in some kind of unfulfilling relationship, no exceptions. Same thing with women who post thirst-trappy stuff to their socials whilst in a relationship, that sort of external validation seeking is NEVER required in a happy partnership.

I am so sorry you went through that. Sounds like you met a grade AAA narcisisst. I dated one very briefly and although my experience wasn't a fraction of yours, I still occasionally mentally berate myself for dating him and falling for him in the first place. In hindsight it was SO OBVIOUS he was a piece of shit, but the lovebombing completely blinds you when you aren't yet educated enough to see it.

100% they attract narcs. Narcs love the unconditional devotion dogs give, all the narcs I've met in my life (including my father) are fiercely "dogs>cats", like it's some kind of fucking team sport. I am an animal lover in general, so I do like dogs as well - but I have noticed that a man not liking my cat was almost always a red flag of things to come.

Yep, absolutely. That confirmed it for me, though my own experiences did lead to the same conclusion. During the most attractive period of my life, I had no problems attracting literally whomever I wanted - but you best believe I was used and discarded like anyone else.

A guy a dated briefly said this to me after he became "unsure about a relationship" overnight (after love bombing me relentlessly, of course). He had "done some shit he wasn't proud of" in his previous relationship and when I pried further, that turned out to be soliciting shitloads of camgirls online behind his ex's back. His ex was gorgeous and ten years younger than him too. Way out of his fucking league. Definitely my cue to bail and once my scrote-tinged glasses wore off, I can say I dodged…

thought I was reading datingover30! The advice there is so male skewed it is laughable.

They seriously do. I purge my contact list once or twice a year - I don't want to be reminded of my mistakes every time I scroll through my damn contact list. I can't believe the way men just let these old numbers build up! Over YEARS and YEARS! Even whilst in LTRs they don't think to purge them, it's bizarre to me.

That sub's advice skews heavily towards the LVM male. Some of it is laughably untrue, lots of "jUsT cOMmUnIcATe" directed at women who are clearly dealing with blatant disrespect/disinterest. Half of the posters dishing out "advice" admit they haven't had relationships or dated in years. It's a hate read at this point.

I had the same experience with a narc ex! How they treat wait staff is as performative as the rest of their fake ass lives. Man, this guy borderline flirted with wait staff in front of me - male or female! - he was that freakin' nice to them. I remember feeling a weird tinge in my gut the first time I witnessed this, it was so OVER THE TOP.

I agree, and this is my only point of contention with the handbook. I have been on dates where sitting down for a full meal would be akin to bamboo under the fingernails. You know the ones where it's an instant "no"? No fucking way am I committing to dinner with someone I haven't met. I feel like the dinner thing works with someone you've already met IRL/2nd date.

👏 I've never seen block texters analysed so well. This is 100٪ a reflection of my experiences with them. The false intimacy created by someone spilling their guts to you is dangerous.

This always boggled my mind when I was naive enough to be on the apps. Why the fuck do you need a "real connection", when you then go on to state you're only looking for a hookup or a side piece?

I'm with you. I pity my sisters who have to slog through the sisyphean task of modern dating, trying to find that unicorn of a man worth having a child with. To not have the urge to procreate is probably the greatest gift life has ever given me.

Men who tag along to obvious girl's nights shit me to tears. Read the fucking room, you're not wanted. Though no excusing the pickmeishas that let them in the first place.

Manbaby palates. I took a new guy to brunch once, to my favourite little cafe that did all sorts of amazing middle eastern inspired vegie dishes. I could see him internally freeze up when he looked at the menu, and then just ordered toast and a boiled egg. Attraction = GONE.

All premixed & pre-made, nary a plant except for some measly pieces of fruit. This is a nutritional and taste wasteland.

I agree. It's been life changing for me. I remember back to all the time I wasted on apps with fools like this and wonder where the fuck FDS has been all my life. So much time and money and emotional effort I could have put to better pursuits.

Agreed. I really dislike these posts because I've personally dated & know of several wealthy men who are absolute scumbags & straight up abusers. This sort of gifting proves absolutely nothing other than he's a high earner or someone who gives no fucks about money. The former is zero indication he's going to treat you well long term, and the latter is a total red flag.

They always come back. Always. Miss me with that shit - you made your choice to try to resuscitate an obviously dead relationship, there's no second chances. I am not a backup plan.

Yeah, he ended up blowing up at me for no reason during a "how's it going" phone convo, and the display of anger was so unbelievable I knew right then and there this guy was bad news. Pickmeisha me tried to get him to "comMuNiCaTe" first, which he of course stonewalled completely. I then blocked and deleted and that was that. In hindsight I am SO lucky he showed his true colours at 2 months, and that my own narc father had made me extremely sensitive to loud voices and irrational tempers. I trul…

It's horrible to think about, isn't it? I was primed to be a narc victim by most men I had met up till then. And I mean, avoidants are bad enough as it is - but nothing scars you like a narc.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy23/07/20 12:45 AM

Yeah, a narc got me this way as well. I'd been fucked around by avoidant men for so long, that his earnest and proudly declared commitment was a breath of fresh air. What I totally ignored was the little nagging voice in my gut going "...but, you aren't even that attracted to him! and he's got trait x, y, and z that are glaring red flags!". Nup, naive little me shoved that inner voice into a box and closed the lid.

Haha, the ol' "I LOOOVE eating pussy" lie. The men who spout this line are almost always the ones who never do it! The men who never mention it have always been the ones who've surprised the hell out of me and spent ages down there, going to town and all around.

I remember my ex decided he needed to lose some weight around his flabby midsection, and within about 2 weeks of eating clean the fucker had lost most of it. Testosterone is weight-loss on easy mode, I have ZERO sympathy for men who whine about their weight.

Lockdown has lowkey been my introverted dream, not gonna lie (it helps I have an essential job and am naturally a homebody, but I do sympathise that it's not a great time for many people). These days it's equipping my home gym, finding new recipes for my veggie boxes, deep diving into Korean skincare & collecting local gins. I have not missed dating one bit.

They are a strange bunch there, I used to lurk there before I found this place. There's some absolute sages there for sure, but a lot of the time it's the blind leading the blind. Men who've admitted to not having a date for years chiming in with "advice"? GTFO. And the constant advice for women to chase & initiate goes against literally every encounter I have ever had in my 20 odd years of dating, though they love to spout that one. Going back to read there after finding FDS is painful.

It's both misogynistic (puts down women as group) and displays his massive ego. Straight up block. "I deem you worthy of my attention, female"

I remember your name from DOT, good to see you here on the other side! Apparently we're toxic AF or something, if you believe that lot. I came here via a mention over there, thinking I'd encounter the worst ‐ ended up being the most eye opening thing I could have ever clicked on.

Me too. The woman doesn't even have to be that young either - I know a 39 yr old pickme and a 54 yr old scrote couple at work. He is the most skeevy, predatory creep. She's a hot single mum with low self esteem, fresh out of a divorce, and he's a giant manbaby with a fat gut and a turkey neck who is afraid of vegetables. I don't know what the fuck she is thinking.

Narcs all run this line! It's fucking hilarious how they all run the same script, in retrospect. I got: "You are making me feel like an asshole and I don't like it".
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy15/07/20 01:49 AM

And she's absolutely stunning too. Scrote is delusional if he thinks he can do better.

Totally. I only dated one for 2 months and it almost destroyed me. The lovebombing, the future faking, the bizarre discard out of nowhere - it is pure crazymaking. Looking back, I cannot believe a man who was so ugly inside and out could obliterate my self esteem like he did - but I was uneducated on narcs so I was the goldfish in a bucket and he was holding a shotgun.

THE WORST MAN I ever dated was balding with a beard. Truly the most fucked up textbook narc I've ever met (before I knew better). I lowered my standards to date him because I fell for his lovebombing, and when I let my guard down he discarded me. I still beat myself up internally for being so damn stupid, 3 years later.

Hot Girls Wanted? I remember being particularly haunted by the girls who were "mentored" by the absolutely predatory head-camgirl who "recruited" younger talent for her gross NVM overseers. She was both an exploitee and and exploiter. Some of the younger women clearly had drug and self-esteem issues, it was so upsetting to see them being preyed upon.

it's. so. FREEING! I know it's not really a yearning you can control, but my life plan is infinitely simplified and infinitely more stress free because of it. My friends who want children are also more vulnerable to LVMs by default. It's terrifying to watch from the sidelines.
