I've actually seen circumcision used as an example of misogyny, because girls are excluded from this fun, energetic, family-oriented ritual.

It's easy to do this flip-flop for just about any issue. Women are slut shamed? It's because they are seen as dirty for associating with too many men. Men are taken more seriously in the workplace? It's because they are expected to work harder and provide for their families. How true each of these statements are is a conversation for another time, but to say that one side of the coin is completely true and the other is completely false is just not helpful.

Unfortunately, sexual reproduction is still inherently asymmetrical, because one person carries the fetus inside of them and the other doesn't. There's not much we can do about that with current technology; Maybe in the future.

It's a common debate strategy. Represent your opponent as the most extreme version, attack that, and hope people don't notice. A lot of people do it without even thinking about it.

Did you catch the strawman at the end? That wanting men to have a choice in becoming a parent means forcing women to have abortions? The solution is legal paternal surrender.

There have been aid programs that only give food and supplies to women. The reasoning was that men would violently fight over resources, hoard resources, trade them for non-essentials etc. And that men wouldn't go hungry because women are altruistic enough to share their food with men. It's faulty reasoning, but that's why they said they did it. Of course this does nothing to address single men (which I think India has a ton of), gay couples, and households which just happen to have fewer women.

That's why the word "assigned" is in there. It basically means whatever gender your parents decided you are.

No, it refers generally to all people born "biologically" male, or intersex people assigned male at birth.

If a man has sex with a woman after lying about getting a vasectomy, is that rape? Not accusing you of anything, just curious. Personally I would consider both to be at least sexual misconduct, and they should both be punishable by law.
/r/MensRights03/04/20 10:53 PM

Is it not rape because lying about being on birth control isn't rape, or is it not rape because women can't rape?
/r/MensRights03/04/20 09:37 PM

You can argue whether it's true, but that statement isn't making light of rape.

Alison Tieman did a great video on this. When women have problems, we go for the simple answer that bad things are happening to women and need to be fixed. When men have problems, we come up with convoluted systems like toxic masculinity that try to redirect blame onto men, and distract from the simple answer that bad things are happening to men. Maybe men have a higher suicide rate, not because they are bottling up their emotions, but because they simply have more mental health stressors than w…

Elam writes articles with intentionally provocative titles, only to go on and say reasonable things. For example, people cite his Bash a Violent Bitch article as proof that he supports violence against women. However, if you read the article, you will see that he's talking about men defending themselves from physically abusive women, and that he doesn't actually advocate that men do it, for their own safety. He also links to the Jezebel article which inspired him, where women openly brag about b…

2 main reasons: It violates the child's bodily autonomy. It should be a person's own decision what to do with their own body. Having a body part forcibly removed clearly violates autonomy. If somebody wants to have themselves circumcised for religious or cultural reason, they can make that decision for themselves as an adult. It reduces sexual pleasure. The foreskin (and frenulum, which is often removed during circumcision) is densely packed with nerve endings. The foreskin also provides mechani…

MensLib posters are first and foremost, beyond anything else, invested in keeping their pro-feminist stamp of approval. If big mommy feminism doesn't give them the OK to discuss a certain issue, they don't allow it. This is exactly why I don't support /r/WhatAboutTheWomen. Men's rights will never get anywhere if we have to ask for feminism's permission to consider men's issues. We dont have to oppose feminism at every turn, but we certainly don't need their permission.

I'm sorry to hear about your experiences, and I'm also sorry to say I've had similar experiences. After a penile orgasm, I still feel a string desire for more pleasure that my penis simply can't deliver. I've heard about men who can achieve multiple orgasms using their frenulums, but mine was removed. Anal stimulation is the only thing that leaves satisfied, and I have little desire to use my penis sexually with another person. That pretty much limits me to male partners (or very unorthodox wome…

The study had male students self-report whether they would do certain things, including forcing sex on a woman, "if nobody would ever know and there wouldn’t be any consequences". That could easily be interpreted as no consequences at all including consequences for the victim. I'm sure plenty of people would rob banks if it meant no consequences for them or for the victim. That doesn't mean they are at all likely to actually rob a bank. Furthermore, this is an orphaned statistic. Try conducting …

The problem with states electing the president rather than people is that it's winner-take-all. If you live in a safe state like California or Texas, your vote for president is actually worthless, since your individual vote doesn't matter and you won't affect how the state votes. One possible solution would be for states to cast their votes proportionally. If a candidate gets 30% of a state's popular vote, they get 30% of that state's electoral votes. This would make the individual's vote have a…

I don't want pure democracy. I want a system where some people votes aren't worth more than others because of where in the country they live. Right now a vote cast in Wyoming is worth more than a vote cast in California. US citizens who live in US territories can't even vote for president. If you live in a state that always votes one way, your vote is literally worthless. If you voted against what your state voted for, your vote is worthless.

"Elected" is different from "democratically elected". Our current electoral system isnt entiely democratic. "Who can win the most votes" is a more democratic contest than "Who can win enough votes in the right states". Yes, Trump got the most electoral votes and was the rightful winner of the election, but the people voted for Clinton.

I had the same problem with the Portland stabbing. The victims escalated a non-violent situation in order to protect the feelings of two girls (quote: "You can’t disrespect these young ladies like that."), and they paid the ultimate price. Idealizing these self-sacrificial men as heroes or "true men" is going to encourage more men and boys to give up their lives. In short, male disposability does real, and hero worship only makes it worse.

The local community will now be forced to look for other clinics and practitioners who we have no knowledge off [sic] or any trust in. Or you could... not cut children. You could let your children decide for themselves when they are adults. This kind of attitude is typical of religious zealots. Thank you for putting into words what I've been trying to. The issue is not female genital mutilation or male genital mutilation. The issue is child genital mutilation. If a consenting adult woman can't get a genital piercing, but a screaming infant can have healthy tissue removed for no reason, there is a problem.

Even if you talk about the relatively inoffensive stuff (don't mutilate babies, children need fathers, etc.), you will still get weird looks and, in some cases, accusations of misogyny for even bringing it up. My only suggestion is to keep talking about it until it becomes normal. Ignore the people who will shout "misogynist!" at you without considering what you said.

The fat acceptance movement might as well be renamed the consumption movement. You'll notice that the people who want you to keep buying and consuming food also want you to keep buying and consuming cosmetic products. I guess face acceptance isn't part of the deal. I don't know how you could diagnose phimosis in an infant. Either way, there are treatment options that don't involve removing any tissue. Removing healthy tissue should be a last resort.

That's why phimosis doesn't count as a medical necessity for circumcision. AFAIK, you can't even diagnose phimosis until several years after birth.

Gynocentrism is simply the tendency for people to want to protect women. It's one of the central pillars of traditional gender roles, the other being patriarchy. Feminism tries to eliminate patriarchy by exploiting people's innate gynocentrism. You can see how this conflicts with their claims of wanting true equality.

Feminist epistemology deals with the oppressor/oppressed dynamic in this case. It says that an oppressed class necessary has a more objective view of reality, and since women are obviously oppressed, women are better at seeing objective truth than men. Women must maintain their status as oppressor for feminist theory to maintain its cough legitimacy. That's the primary difference between women's rights and feminism. Sorry, I didn't proofread my last comment. What I meant to say is that no religion criminalizes menstruation or treats it as inherently bad. Uncleanliness is seen a a normal, natural, human state. You're not a bad person for being unclean. Being unclean isn't a sin. Everyone will be unclean at some point in their lives, and it just means you temporarily cannot take part in certain activities. It's not exclusive to menstruation and it's not exclusive to women. Read about Leviticus, the tabernacle…
/r/MensRights08/06/17 09:02 PM

Yes, that is the point I'm trying to highlight. I'm saying that Islam does not criminal, except that menstruation is seen as inherently bad. My point is that no religion treats it as inherently bad, at least not more than any other bodily excretion.

Right, but that's nowhere near criminalizing menstruation. There is no punishment, you just have to wait until you're clean again. edit: I want to be clear that I'm not advocating this or suggesting that it has any basis in reality. This is just what it says in Leviticus.
/r/MensRights05/06/17 11:09 PM

Menstruating isn't said to be illegal or even inherently bad in Leviticus. It just means you are impure for a little while and can't enter God's presence. Lots of things supposedly make you impure, not just menstruation.

What I remember from the interview is Cenk asked Karen what some basic men's issues were, Karen brought up MGM, and Cenk tried to rationalize why MGM is legal but FGM isn't. It's disappointing because there is a ton of common ground between liberal feminism and the MRM, and a lot of the disagreement is about fundamental assumptions about gender. A single prick of the labia without removing any tissue is illegal but removing the entirety of the foreskin and the frenulum, two of the most important parts of the penis, is completely legal. In this specific instance, the MGM is worse than the FGM, but it doesn't matter. All forms of genital mutilation on children should be banned.

I've always considered advocacy to be a very easy standard to meet. If somebody asks you "Are you in favor of women's rights?" and you answer "Yes." then this makes you an advocate of women's rights. I (and I assume you) focus on men's rights because they have fewer rights, very little is being done about it, and there are already plenty of people working for women's rights.

If you want equality, you should be an MRA and a WRA, which I'm sure you are. Women's rights are the female equivalent of men's rights. There is no male equivalent of feminism.

They would actually be logically consistent if they admitted to that. Most people would be fine with feminism if it just stayed in the realm of women's issues, but it tries to claim a monopoly on all gender issues.

You're completely right. What gets me the most is that my parents were legally allowed to do this to me. If it was illegal, I could live with the knowledge that my parents are just crazy psychopaths. It's hard to know exactly how to go about doing that. If you tell people about how unnecessary it is, they may go away thinking it's unnecessary, but not that harmful, and should be left to the parents to decide. If you tell people how harmful it is, they may become offended "I wasn't mutilated", "what I did to my son wasn't mutilation" and support circumcision even more. So many articles about women committing crimes pop up here and all I can think is "what does this have to do with men's rights?" I hate to say it, but this subreddit does not give a very good image for the movement as a whole. I think we would do well to organize activity in support of men's rights and focus on those rights. Devolving into unrelated political arguments is exactly what got feminism into the state it's in now. I really really don't want the MRM to turn into masculism.

It's like an insidious game of lexical hokey pokey. When they're talking to non-feminists or anti-feminists, patriarchy is just the gender-neutral concept of traditional gender roles, and the gendered name is only a byproduct of history. Patriarchy is equally oppressive to men and women, so everybody should join the feminist cause and fight the patriarchy. The wording of Hillary's tweet makes it a defensible statement. Yes, every survivor deserved to be heard, believed, and supported. A false accuser is not a survivor. Unfortunately, tons of people like to push the idea that anyone who makes an accusation, regardless of it veracity, is a survivor. Of course, they only do with with female accusers. It's not just confirmation bias, though that it part of it. It's the idea that any and all evidence supports their belief. Any example of male privilege is considered sexism against women. Another, somewhat crass example is the idea of a "nigger lover". "Nigger lover" is almost always used to insult white people, but it is not an anti-white insult. Fuck, I wish I had the source on hand, but there are some fucked up stories about HRC. She built up a reputation for being physically abusive to Bill and to the secret service. There was one incident where she had scratched Bill on the neck right before he had a speech, and they had to make up some story about him badly nicking himself shaving.

They're probably looking to avoid lawsuits and complaints. It's not out of the question that a passenger could see a child seated next to a man and become outraged, and the airline would rather just avoid that. It's pretty fucked up that our society has come to this.

This is why I consider the more liberal parts of the manosphere to be some of the only people who actually challenge traditionalism. Feminists and anti-feminists both have the habit of reinforcing the idea that men breaking gender roles is a bad thing. The only people I've seen actually challenge this are MRAs and some MGTOW. The whole concept of cross dressing is dumb anyway. Nothing is being crossed except an arbitrary line that society has drawn where certain people can only wear certain thin…

What do you mean? Are you saying you have to be a man to be in the MRM?

I would say feminism should be killed and replaced with women's rights advocacy. The two are very different, let's not get them mixed up.

It's also the feeling of knowing that your partner is receiving more pleasure than he would if he wasn't intact. I like the idea of giving my partner pleasure, and I'm circumcised myself so I know how underwhelming direct penile stimulation is without a foreskin. It's really bizarre to me that so many people care more about how it looks than if it's actually enjoyable for the man.

Data point of one, I think intact dicks look much healthier and much more attractive. That being said, it is still pretty disgusting to perform unnecessary surgery on a child to match your own sexual preferences. For some reason people understand this with ear piercing, even though the ear lobe really is just a piece of skin, but they don't understand it for certain sexual organs.

This video made me want to cry. I need a hug and some booze. It needs to be really low alcohol and really fucking disgusting.

It should be agreed upon by the couple, not forced by the state. You shouldn't have to have a prenup stating that you won't pay alimony, it should just be assumed that you won't unless specified otherwise in a prenup.

I had a glimmer of hope when I saw the title. I thought that maybe this would be an article about how to prevent abuse against boys. Now I just feel broken hearted and sick to my stomach.

Bringing more children into the world is not a noble goal. Protecting and providing for the children that already exist is a noble goal.

That's all they have to go on. I don't think webmd of all places has am agenda to paint women as victims. There are plenty of organizations with that agenda who wield immense political power. Webmd is not one of them.

What do you mean "undermine themselves"? It's webmd, I don't think they're trying to push the "women are victims" narrative, they are just reporting the available facts.

It was sad because the "only men can rape" garbage was slipped in among mostly good information about sex and consent.

During my college orientation, they told us a story about a girl who was kidnapped and murdered. Then they straight up gold is that it's worse to murder a woman than it is to murder a man. All the freshman also had to read about and take an online quiz about sexual violence. They explicitly told us that if a man and a woman are both drunk and have sex, the man is a rapist. The next year I had a professor who told us on several occasions that women need to look after themselves because men are as…

It might not be willing or conscious, but maybe dysphoria could have developed after birth. This is all conjecture, there's really know way of knowing until we can get some better research on the subject.

We'd have to know how many people are trans because of dysphoria or because of other social factors. It would also be interesting to find out if dysphoria can be acquired later in life because, being nurture rather than nature.

Do you have a source? Every source I've seen lists more female transgender people than males, but I don't know how much of that can be chalked up to selection bias or some other factor.

I think it's somewhat telling that there are many more trans women than trans men. I think people are, consciously or subconsciously, trying to escape the male gender.

They get that disgusting piece of skin removed from them for free! What a privilege! They should be paying a circumcision tax for having their sexuality corrected with a knife. Fuck, I need to take a shower after that comment.

Considering Clinton's statements on "the primary victims of war", I think Trump would be much more empathetic to the men serving in our military. He would be less likely to send our boys overseas and sacrifice thousands of male lives, American or otherwise.

Completely support. Not just neutral, but actively supportive. I think the more people crossdress, the more people will realize that breaking gender norms isn't shameful for men.

Really good video. My only issue with it is that it uses Kaceytron as an example of a feminist. She is a well known troll and doesn't believe what she says.

Right, I was going for social more than legal there. Legally, there are zero privileges that men have over women.

In some parts of Africa, it is common practice to rape virgins to cure HIV. That doesn't mean it actually works.

If you ever ask why these services are available only to women, the response you're likely to get is either "women need it more", without any explanation, or " you're a misogynist", without any explanation. Stuff like this makes me feel like I'm an alien who's been dropped on this planet and not informed about how humans behave. For some reason people find it acceptable to completely ignore men and I can't figure out why.

I know what you're talking about, but I wouldn't consider those to be dating sites. They're just places for people to give and receive free stuff.

Unfortunately on traditional dating websites, the men run the show. The burden of proof is on women. Show me one dating site where men get more messages than women or where women need to prove themselves to men more often than the other way around. Show me one example of such a website and I will cut my own head off on stream.

Something tells me that they do offer this service to men, but the person who made this poster didn't bother to mention that. edit: Nope, I was wrong. Treats me right for assuming the best of people.
