For some reason I get sad and teary at supermarkets and department stores. Maybe those are the places that is most closely associated with a notion of a traditional "family," which no longer exists. Hang in there. Find things for yourself. It gets better.

Divorce is about "Needs" and clearing the runway so you can pursue your needs without traditions and legalities of marriage. Tom and Bill are free to whatever shit they want without the baggage. Now that you're divorced get out there man!!

Sadly you have to go through the motions. Unless you are willing to pay for it, which is a different matter. That being said, I'll snuggle with you for beer and bacon. Im a middle-aged hetero dude with a slight obsession with pork products. I'm all yours buddy!

The fact you're asking means you're already fucked emotionally. So you have no choice but to just enjoy the ride. Lol However you have to draw the line at financials. As soon as you start committing finances you have to hold back and reassess to make sure she's worth it.

The kids might care though. I don't care about my ex. But I worry about how my kids will handle it if we do separate celebrations.

Happy for you! You inspire me. Question though, how the heck did you lose so much in the divorce? I thought divorces are generally 50/50.

How does it work when you only have the kids 50% of the time? Will the au pair only work when the kids are with you? Or also when they are with the ex?

I looked up Moab and Sedona. They look beautiful. Yes, different than NYC. I can see myself renting a jeep and exploring.

I'm still living with my ex and my kids... so you would have to take them as well. Haha. Just make sure to feed them and pay for the kids college. 🤣 😂

Thanks. Would the alimony have to include the cost of procuring her own insurance?

Feel for you brother... As others have posted, just try to focus on the things you can control. You can't control your ex but you can control the most important things. Try to make the most of it. Its important that your kids see both you and your ex adjusting to life's roadbumps. It builds confidence for them to see that shit happens but everything is ok and seeing their parents happy and adjusted is a big part of that. Time with the kids - make it about bonding and sharing experiences and find…

My STBX birthday is on valentines day. I hate it with a passion. I will be so glad to never celebrate it again.

Sometimes you need to physically remove yourself from a bad place. Especially if you are struggling to contain your bitterness and pain. You are still grieving and its hard to process, accept and heal when you see the source of your pain (stbx) every day. I would consider moving out now. Even if its a crappy apartment down the street. I think separation would be good. In your own space, your child can see you a little happier, a little better adjusted than what you would normally appear living i…

What made you say Yikes? Was it her age? Do you think the judge will consider her age in determining whether or how much she can work? Thanks for all the advice. She has a sizable 401k fund. Much bigger than mine. I plan to offer to let her keep what she has (not split it) in exchange for no alimony. Do you think that will work?

We've been married 21 years and she made more than me for about 12 of them, which includes 10 years when I was a stay at home dad. She hasn't worked in 6 years. One note, not sure if it matters, my kids are older now. Ones in college and the 2nd a Junior in High school. She is 51. I think she is very employable. She used to be an executive for a major retail company for 16 years. She has a bachelors.
