It's counterintuitive if you believe the nonsense narrative that men are actually super privileged and always elevated above women in society. If you have a brain and functioning eyes then the results of the study were completely unsurprising.

I knew the anti-male bias was strong but even I wouldn't have predicted something like: 88% chose to sacrifice the male bystander

Reading through the "justifications" for the exemptions and they're all very flimsy. Essentially they're all just "we need to discriminate against men so that we can hire more women". No attempt to define why they need more women, or how women would provide some unique benefit or opportunity for the role. It's just "we're <50% women so we have to fix that". Do they never stop to consider that they don't have gender equality because women just don't want those types of jobs as much? Also want to …

A huge part of the perception of violent men is that women outsource their violence needs to men; they don't get their hands dirty themselves. If the men were gone you'd find out very quickly that men never had a monopoly on violent intent, they just had the privilege of getting others to take all the risk.

Yup. It's just a dogwhistle, enough plausibility to claim you're not talking about men even though everyone knows they're just talking about men.

They created the conditions that allowed them to exist. If young men weren't exposed from birth to the rampant misandry from the left, the manosphere would've never have found an audience. Andrew Taint would be yelling into a void. Clavicular would working in an Amazon warehouse or something.

Problem is that they're still getting away with their bullshit. None of them learnt anything. They're still blaming men for everything. So we have Trump ruining everything AND leftists regurgitating misandry.

Yeah we had to start calling them firefighters, not firemen. Meanwhile it's still called the patriarchy even though there are a lot more matriarchs in charge than women fighting fires.

How many man die doing jobs they wouldn't have to do if the kid they never wanted was aborted? How many men take their own lives because they can't handle the burden of fatherhood? "Men don't get pregnant" is such a two-dimensional framing of the issue. Bottom line that women have the privilege to opt out of parenthood while men do not.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates12/07/26 11:52 PM
9

You mean abortion privileges, right? Men have no abortion rights at all. Only women have the "right" to avoid parenthood after conception, and if only a certain group has a right then it's not a right at all. If the condom fails then a man has no say on whether or not he's financially responsible for a child for the next 18 years, and morally responsible for the rest of his life. When Roe was repealed in the US it was actually a move toward gender equality, as harsh as that sounds. Not equality …

therefore hurting men and helping women is categorically a step towards balance. More often than not the "helping women" part is entirely optional. Hurting men is the only pre-requisite.

And even if hip-hop was the misogynistic hellhole they make it out to be, the answer isn't misandry - it's anti-misogyny. It's all just excuses to be toxic ragebaiters and man-haters.

I call this the "worst case scenario" fallacy. Just because we haven't ever heard of a femcel going postal because of their misandric beliefs doesn't mean femcels aren't causing a comparable amount of damage. Femcel rhetoric, and anti-male rhetoric in general is causing incalculable degrees of harm. The only difference is that the harm is psychological in direct terms, and self-inflicted in indirect ones. You're the third misandrist to necropost on a month old comment. Where are you all coming from?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates07/07/26 08:53 PM

That's just an objectively true statement. You don't even have to be a locked-in male advocate to recognise that at least some situations disfavour men. That statement shouldn't even be framed as an opinion. Misandry deniers are like climate change deniers.

When you lay it out like that it's really clear that feminism is a right-wing movement. These tactics are indistinguishable from conservative regressive ideologues.

You have to remember that some people think men's rights is a synonym for misogyny. They were using men's rights as a slur.

Quite the opposite. Condemning men for becoming incels without acknowledging women's role in pushing them down that path is like condemning Hamas terrorists without acknowledging the Israeli oppression that compelled them to become terrorists.

Except there's no UN Men account declaring that the rescue efforts should focused on men and boys. So women get their own special advocacy group while men have to make do with the generic all-inclusive posts.

Female victims have to deal with being afraid of their partner, and even sometimes being disbelieved, but they never have to deal with being mocked for being a victim or actually being accused of being the abuser. Male victims have to deal with all of that. Meanwhile they have to endure every corner society telling them that women actually have it soooo much worse. My heart breaks for them.

Someone went to all the effort of making that graphic and yet at no point did they stop to consider if false accusations also have orders of magnitude more accusations that don't result in punishment? That any one of the brown figures could also be falsely accused but didn't get vindication in court? Hell, even some of the red ones could be falsely accused too.

Not just acceptable, but borderline mandatory. People get flamed for being insufficiently critical of white men.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates26/06/26 09:19 PM

Yeah I think it's largely a "if you're not with us, you're against us" thing. Young men have been alienated from the left so they're not explicitly identifying that way, but then get automatically labelled as the "other" for failing to do so. I don't think their views have changed all that much.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates25/06/26 09:14 PM
63

Exactly this. I'm a pretty hardcore lefty; LGBT rights are non-negotiable, climate change is the biggest issue right now, massive wealth redistribution is vital. But the second anyone hears that I'm sceptical of feminism then suddenly BOOM! they've placed a mental MAGA hat on me.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates25/06/26 09:05 PM

The widening political gap is explained almost by exactly that; young women veering hard to the left. Young men have stayed pretty politically stable.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC1854883/. About half of DV is reciprocal i.e. couples fighting each other. Of DV that isn't reciprocal, the result is 70/30. Generalisations are fine when they apply to the vast majority of the target group. It's true that there's women that my comment doesn't apply to, but they are very much the exception that proves the rule. When we fight against feminist generalisations it's because they're talking about things that like 1% of men do and act like it applies to all of us.

I've started to call myself post-feminist. I respect what first and third wave feminism accomplished, and believe that most of modern feminism's toxic leanings comes from it no longer having a legitimate function (creating the bogeyman of the patriarchy in order to justify it's ongoing existence). It's clear that the vast majority of gender inequality in the modern West is disadvantaging men so feminism is no longer required.

Women care about men as long as it doesn't require any effort, doesn't put any blame on their gender and allows them to shit on men and the system that "oppresses" women. The nanosecond supporting men requires any form of sacrifice on their part then it's time for "men to start their own advocacy networks" (which they will immediate denounce as misogynistic).

This all comes down to a patriarchy being wilfully confused for an androcracy. Theoretically, a "patriarchy" could hurt men since most men aren't patriarchs so the system isn't backfiring at all. If we ignore the fact that a significant minority of the "patriarchs" in the real world are women (and the system is much more accurately called a plutocracy) then you could concede that we do live in a patriarchy. The problem is that when feminists describe the system we're living under they're talking…

Even if we ignore the countless examples of overt androcide like Srebrenica throughout history, we're still left with the untold millions of men who have taken their own lives due to misandric "irritation". If we take the reasonable step of including suicide alongside homicide when it comes to gendered deaths, then we'll realise that misandry kills a hell of lot more people than misogyny ever has.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates25/05/26 08:27 PM

Not to mention that most modern misogyny is a response to misandry first. It's all cyclical.

It's also relabelled as a tonne of other "neutral" things like police brutality, homelessness, homicide, drug overdoses, the opioid epidemic, the draft etc. If anything of those things affected women to the same level of disproportionality then you bet your ass it would be considered systemic misogyny. But because it affects men it's all written off as gender-neutral.

It's self-absolution. You don't have to feel bad about 70% of suicide victims being men if they haven't gone to therapy, because it's "their own fault". And if they've gone to therapy and are still depressed then you can always say they weren't doing it right. I get that we don't owe the left a fucking thing, but I think we still have to support them. I'm not going to abandon racial minorities, the LGBT community, the working class and the environment to the right-wing hellscape. I'm willing to take whatever the misandrists throw at us if it means those other groups suffer less. Hopefully one day they'll reciprocate our support. And it's certainly not like we'll be any better off if we abandon the left.

Plus men can't really use the excuse of non-consent to cover up the shame of sex you regret. If a man tries that it just makes him look more pathetic.

The vast majority of consent is non-verbal. So there's plenty of situations where the early, "breaking the ice" contact was welcomed and reciprocated by the woman which leads the man to (understandably) think that more intimate contact is OK. But maybe it's not, and BAM you've committed sexual assault. Touching someone's ass when you're just riding on a train? Not OK. We live in a Patriarchy i.e. a system run by fathers. This is why 64% of fathers get alienated from their children after divorce compared to only 20% of mothers. It's why fathers pay 80% of all child support payments despite the gender pay gap being a myth. It's why single fathers were 30% more likely to never receive a child support payment than single mothers. Because fathers control the world, you see?

The primary challenge we're facing right now is the myth of male privilege. It makes meaningful progress on everything else impossible. We receive no support because people either believe that men have no issues or that we have all the power and therefore can solve our own problems unilaterally. And the myth of male privilege is an entirely feminist creation. The 2-dimensional, "men-as-oppressors, women-as-oppressed" dynamic is a very recent framing. Even when women suffered overt discrimination…

Comments here often feel similar to the White people who say they suffer pervasive ‘reverse racism’, because of of affirmative action This comparison doesn't work because white privilege is real, powerful and was absolute in the past. The outright refusal to trace "toxic" male behaviour back to any kind of root cause beyond the usual hyper-superficial answers like "teh manosphere" or Andrew Taint. How many times do we have to explain this to y'all? "Men are in charge" =/= "most of the people in charge are men." At no point in history have "men" been the oppressor class. Restrictions on men to force them to sacrifice their bodies in the wheels of industry and restrictions on women so they're forced to provide the next generation of men to do it all over again. I'm torn. On one hand it's always nice to see a man expressing emotional vulnerability and getting support for it. On the other it glosses over the very real problem of society reacting to male vulnerability with contempt. It perpetuates the myth that men's reluctance to seek help is based on issues they've concocted in their own head rather than being the product of very real cause-and-effect that men have experienced in their lives.

So essentially "society needs to address this", but not the 50% of society who are women? In other words men need to solve their own problems?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/11/25 09:14 AM
10

The problem is that these initiatives just further entrench the idea that men's issues can be solved by "talking about it" and being social. In reality what we really need is substantial, societal-level change like new laws, dedicated men's government departments and NGOs working to prevent anti-male discrimination. These things are worse than band-aid solutions because they're actively used to cover up the lack of any meaningful help that society should be giving men.

The problem is that feminism can't concede an inch. The whole feminist house of cards is built on the myth that men are privileged and women are oppressed. As soon as they acknowledge one area where men are worse off, it leaves the door open to acknowledge others. Soon enough people will start to realise that feminism is no longer required and that we just need a true unified egalitarian movement.

It's things like this that let you know feminism is first and foremost about demonising men, empowering women second. Treating men like shit is keeping them out of power. They'd be able to accomplish so much more for women if they threw the occasional bone to potential male allies. They'd probably have never lost Roe if they weren't so focussed on blaming men for all their problems.

One thing to remember is that feminism is the dominant force in the world. It's orthodoxy in every Western government and business. There's already thousands of women's advocacy movements, entire government departments, fields of academic research all dedicated solely to improving women's lives. Male advocates don't need to talk about women's issues because the vast majority of the world's conversation is already focussed on them.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/10/25 08:56 PM

I think you have to realise that a lot of people are stuck in feminist echo chambers and are genuinely unaware that left wing male advocacy is even possible, let alone it being very common.

Vasectomies aren't infallible. And a man may want to be a father at some point so vasectomies aren't a fair replacement for a paper abortion. A person shouldn't have to be sterilised just to avoid the risk of becoming a parent. We don't expect women to.

Take this analogy - Under the law, all people have the right to get a prostate exam. But that right is useless to women. Does that mean there’s something wrong with that law? An exceptionally stupid comparison. Women are not affected at all by their inability to get a prostate exam. Men are definitely affected by the mother of their child refusing to get an abortion.

It's not obscure at all. It's completely mainstream, parroted constantly even by high profile figures like celebrities and politicians. It's significantly more common than overt misogyny, and the fact you don't even realise that is a testament to how normalised it is.

No one's arguing that feminism is a secret right-wing plot or anything, only that it's become so extreme and exclusionary that it's found itself wrapped back around to the right. Obviously everyone in this sub knows that men's and women's rights aren't naturally opposed, but I'm sure that any party that tried to make meaningful inroads on men's issues would instantly get labelled as far right. "Courting the incel vote". Feminists would whine that the Dems are ignoring women by even daring to address other issues. It's like Israel/Palestine; showing support for the innocent victims on o…

Republicans are worse on every issue. I can't believe you've brought unions into the discussion when they're anathema to the GOP. Republicans love the draft, and the global instability caused by Republican policies will drastically increase the chance the draft needs to be enforced. Men's issues will be ignored as they ever have. Best case scenario they pay lip service to them, but then they'll act counter to our wishes every time. Yeah it's a total false equivalency. Eliminating Roe created reproductive right equality, it didn't destroy it. Now I'd much rather that both genders had abortion rights (medical for women, paper for men) but I'm sick of hearing that women are being oppressed by these changes. Gen Z men had the internet on a little rectangle in their hands growing up hearing how much they are awful, violent, worthless, hateful people. I think there's a clear generational divide. Older people remember a time when women were more pigeon-holed in their life decisions, when they generally lacked role models in traditionally male-dominated sectors of society. You could argue that we once needed explicit messaging to girls along the lines of "you can be CEO", "you can lead a country", "you …

Perhaps I'm straying into hyperbole territory but it feels a bit like the way some Germans talked about Jews in the 30's. Not outright hatred like full-blown Nazis, but the complete apathy to their struggles. Like they wouldn't try to kill us but they wouldn't be too upset if they saw us getting loaded on to the trains either.

just have someone be mean to me You're kind of proving my point. The fact you're downplaying non-physical abuse down to "being mean" is clear you don't understand the depth of non-physical abuse. People kill themselves over non-physical abuse i.e. they would rather be dead than endure any more of it. Losing their arms and legs would be a small price to pay for them.

I think "stick and stones..." has caused an untold amount of damage because it's created this two-tiered system of abuse, where physical abuse is seen as clearly and unambiguously worse than any other form. Yet in my experience, psychological and emotional abuse cuts so much deeper. Men are seen as the abusers because they're seen as having the monopoly on physical abuse (which of course they don't have, but I'll accept there's a natural asymmetry). And because men occupy this "upper tier" of ab…

It kinda makes sense. Men "approve" of war more than women because enlisting and fighting is one of the few tried-and-true ways that men can prove their utility. Now the obvious answer is that society should stop coupling men's worth with what they can provide in return, but neither the left nor right has any desire to do that. The left thinks valuing men will somehow devalue women, and the right wants a steady supply of bodies to sacrifice at the altar of capitalism. So the left playing up war …

The UN is shocking when it comes to gender statistics. Their equality statistics define gender inequality as how far women are behind men. If women are ahead of men, then they get a perfect score. For example, university admissions are more gender unequal in New Zealand than in Afghanistan. But NZ gets a perfect 1.0 gender equality score because it's unequal in a way that benefits women. Apparently African Americans represent 55% of violent crime convictions despite only being 13% of the population (the numbers vary, but the point is AAs are drastically overrepresented in crime statistics). Racists will use this stat to suggest that AAs are somehow inherently violent, hard-coded in their DNA or something. However, any rational person will realise that the stat isn't telling the full picture.

From people judging them based on the most extreme members, and by always taking the least charitable interpretations of their words and actions. But I agree they need to abandon the term; it's too loaded these days.

The lack of in-group bias is the Achilles' Heel of modern patriarchal theory. A lot of women believe that the existence of the patriarchy (in the literal sense where the majority of the wielders of power in society are men) results in male privilege. But it's just projection. They believe that since they'd give women special treatment if they were in charge that the men in charge give other men special treatment right now. But without in-group bias amongst men that is not the case.

There's some evidence that female rulers are more likely to engage in war than male ones. Over 193 reigns, they found that states ruled by queens were 27% more likely to wage war than those ruled by kings. It's preposterous to think that a world run by women would be less likely to send men to war. My hypothesis is that power naturally attracts the unempathetic, regardless of gender.

The thread has two broad answers; it's either because we hate women or because we're ignorant. The possibility that we're critical of feminism because it's often a genuinely bad thing never even begins to cross their mind.

Gatekeeping doesn't mean the reasonable enforcement of participation rules - it's not gatekeeping when the mods delete spam comments about dick pills or whatever, or clear trolls not here for legitimate debate. But within the rules there is space for discussion about women's issues, as long as topics relate to male issues and that people hold egalitarian values. I think the crux is that discussion about women's rights is often very salient to discussions about men's rights. There seems to be a tendency in some men's spaces to believe that any discussion about women's rights is a distraction but often is very useful context. It can also serve as a parallel to our own struggles that we can learn from. I like to think that the ultimate endgame is to get rid of male advocacy and feminism altogether and have nothing but egalitarianism. We should also welcome…

I just can't wrap my head around gendered laws like this. Time use studies consistently show that men do more work overall when paid and unpaid labour is combined. The studies are however correct as 70% of divorce filers are women. I can't find the study at the moment, but I remember one saying that the average person thinks they do 70% of the household chores in their relationship - clearly impossible. The framing of it as an "epidemic" means it's a society-level problem, not isolated cases of individual men. The idea of a society-level men's issue is a direct threat to the core feminist ideal behind their patriarchal theory - that men have all the power. Until a conviction is handed out, a truthful accusation and a false one are functionally identical. "Innocent until proven guilty" is not a nice-to-have, it's the core tenet of Western law. The issue is that the advice is exclusively that kind of help-yourself-and-don't-bother-anyone-else stuff. Any "men's rights" space that refuses to acknowledge the real systemic issues men have to face, nor the role that broader society has to fix them, does not really care about men's rights. Imagine if we told the suffragettes "it sucks you don't have the right to vote, go for a walk in nature to make you feel better" and then did nothing else. That's what we're dealing with.

Yeah that was my only issue with OPs statement. The idea that history has been this utopia for men while women suffered is 100% feminist revisionist history. Even in the "dark ages" of women's rights it was almost certainly better to be a woman.

In the same way that antisemites replaced "Jew" with "globalist", I think "toxic masculinity" is "check your privilege" wearing a different hat. Essentially they both boil down to "men control everything so everything is men's fault". They claim that men suffering under toxic masculinity is their own fault because men are the ones that "rule" society and therefore are the ones that enforce those norms.

They want to remain gatekeepers of sex as it gives them a staggering amount of power. They don't want men to be able to access it freely nor do they want men who choose not to access it at all. This becomes most absurd when they talk about sex workers. They're very supportive of sex workers because it's mostly women, and women having freedom and agency is good! But then they turn around and demonise the (mostly male) customers of said sex workers. Either sex work is OK or it's not, you can't pic…

If you haven't seen it points out that Aragorn from Lord of the Rings is this supposed ideal of healthy masculinity because he cries and kisses his comrades. But that's not even masculinity! Intersectionality cuts both ways. Men's issues are often ignored because of "male privilege"; the idea that men can't be suffering because Bill Gates and Joe Biden happen to have the same type of genitals as us. I shouldn't have to explain the fallacy there. White people deal with the same thing, that a white person's issues don't matter because POC have it worse. But then white men's issues are taken with even less seriousness than either group individually i.e. intersectionality.

We've had a generation of the "the future is female" and "girls can do anything". Once upon a time these were okay sentiments, as some young girls might not have realised they could do anything. But that hasn't been the case for decades now. Older women think it's preposterous that boys need to hear "boys can do anything", because of course boys can do anything. But boys have been hearing "the future is female" all their lives, and they've never heard "boys can do anything".

Feminism and misandry are some of the biggest barriers to affecting real change on men's issues. Before we can really tackle any issue, we need to overcome the groups that silence the discussion before it can even start. Sometimes groups become overly focused on this side of the debate, but unfortunately criticism of feminism is a fundamental part of men's advocacy.

There's a definite trend where men's issues are the inverse of woman's ones. Slut-shaming vs virgin-shaming. Catcalling vs utter desexualisation. Hyperagency vs hypoagency. Women often like to pretend that because their extreme is bad then the other extreme must be good. Not realising that it's more like a bell curve, with two unpleasant extremes and a happy medium in between.

If one checks the real world, it's women who primarily hold privilege In aggregate, yes. But the most privileged individuals are mostly men. This is the apex fallacy. The underlying issue is that feminists want to take a playing field that's tilted against men & tilt it further. Adding some mythology about "patriarchy" has been their way of justifying it. Definition from wikipedia: "Patriarchy is a social system in which positions of dominance and privilege are primarily held by men". It's hard to deny that that is exactly what we have, and tinmen himself also highlights this in the above post. The thing about a patriarchy is that it's run by patriarchs, not men. And patriarchs don't give any special shits about me just because we have the same thing between our legs. In fact, given the absence of in-group bias among men and the instinctive role as protectors and providers, the average woman is probably more privileged than the average man. It's no coincidence that in our patriarchy the people forced to die in wars, die for capitalism and die in the streets are overwhelmingly male.

now it's the turn of men to be liberated too I'm frustrated that the totality of progress on this has been limited to the superficial. Great post. It's why so many "villains" in female-focused stories are little more than the patriarchy itself. You can't have a man outfight or outwit a women, as women are naturally as strong and clever as any man, right? She can only be beaten by "the system" which is holding her back.

I think the key is that even if you accept the patriarchy as real, it's still not an androcracy. A patriarchy is ruled by patriarchs not "men". The average man could still suffer under a patriarch's rule, and there's not evidence that a patriarch would give the average man any better treatment than the average women.

No it doesn’t because there’s a huge double standard. I’m not saying it’s acceptable that men have a reason to be afraid of being falsely accused of being a misogynist, only that we are.

Her last point is 100% on the money. Women often complain that men always want to "solve their problems" instead of just being a supportive listener. This is always framed as something that men need to change. But they never seem to consider the reason why men do that in the first place; it's because it's generally what we want when we open up. So while it would help women for men to change their tactics, it works the other way too. If all you're going to offer when I open up is empty platitudes…

Great post. Both genders faced significant limitations in their lives, but the nature of those limitations were different. Women were generally limited by things they could not do, men were limited by what they had to do. It's impossible to say which set of limitations were harder to bear, as the experiences were so subjective. However as women's lib movements progressed virtually all of the former was eliminated, yet most of the latter persisted.

In a majority of cases [citation needed], paternity is as simple as “this is the husband, this is the wife, they have a baby, none of them have reason to be suspicious, end of story”. I don’t consider feminism the problem, but I do consider it a problem. Primarily in the ways that it holds back male advocacy. I’d have no issues with feminism if it was genuinely a movement that tried to deal with gendered issues affecting women as long as a) men as a monolith weren’t treated as the cause of all of those issues and b) they didn’t stop men doing the same with their own issues.

The problem is the same that it’s always been; there are as many definitions of “feminism” as people on the planet. Some are wholesome, some are toxic, some are both depending on the phase of the moon or if Jupiter is in retrograde. Quick and easy labels are a surefire way to splinter a movement.

In many ways having more physical power makes things worse. Because you have to remain conscious of the fact that equal reciprocation of abuse will not be treated as equal in the eyes of the law and the court of public opinion. It's a bit hypocritical that the UK government is willing to change terminology to accommodate the 0.01% of birthing parents who happen to not be ciswomen, but don't see an issue with excluding men from the gendered violence nomenclature even when men are a much higher proportion of the target audience. I get the feeling he's using the term patriarchy to (consciously or not) make his message more palatable to certain groups. He clearly recognises that it's not men that are the problem per se. It might be the right tactic. If we managed to reframe the patriarchy as not being a mere synonym for "men", we could weaponise the existing anti-patriarchal momentum for actual positive change.

You could argue that "patriarch" could refer to a masculine authority, not necessarily a male one. By that frame of reference a patriarchy would be a state ruled by a masculine standard - independence, self responsibility and accountability etc. - and a woman could fill that role. So by contrast a matriarchy would follow that traditional feminine traits - openness, co-operation, compassion.

Feminists like to conflate "the people in charge are often men" with "men are in charge". Those are very different things. One thing that never gets addressed is the inherent subjectivity of most things described as privilege. Catcalling (specifically the lack thereof) is often cited as male privilege, but most men see the utter void of casual compliments as a heavy burden instead. Neither viewpoint is inherently wrong but the male viewpoint is treated as such. It's "invalid" to be jealous of the positive attention women get just for existing, because we don't "understand" that "burden". Women often see the breadwin…

It also subtly reinforces straight/white/male normativity. POCs are this lovely rainbow tapestry of diversity, and then there's white people. There's a whole spectrum of gender and sexual identities, and then there's straight men. Straight/white/men become this beige monolith, with everything else being special. And if everything else is special, then straight/white/males are "normal".

The idea that masculinity is purely a social construct is utterly preposterous. It's hardcoded into our DNA. When we visited the uncontacted tribes of the North Sentinel Islands, the warriors on the beach defending their people weren't gender diverse. They were all men. Where did they "learn" that? I don't think they get ESPN reception. They're not watching war films on Netflix. I'm sure that their subscriptions to men's magazines wouldn't reach that far.

Just because feminism isn't as strong as the fascist right in America right now does not mean they're powerless. As appalling as the revocation of Roe is, it's only bringing women's abortion rights down to where men's abortion rights have always been. And even then it's only in certain states where the fascists dominate. Men don't have abortion rights anywhere.

New Zealand made history by being the first country to grant women the right to vote in 1893. Men on the other hand got universal suffrage all the way back in... 1879. 14 years. That's how long women were "oppressed" under the yoke on unequal voting rights. For context that's about the time that has lapsed between the movie Avatar and its sequel.

Like we have to distinguish between feminism (the concept) and FeminismTM (the movement), we need to distinguish between the pro-life concept and movement as well. Early days but I feel like Gen Z is more interested in actually fixing problems than useless slacktivism that plagues us Millennials. I hope this manifests in the decline in feminism as they realise that western women already have equality in most spheres, and actual privilege in several others. The White Feather movement and all related things. It's one thing for women and feminists to be oblivious to men's struggles. But it's quite another to actively perpetuate them. I hate that rape/sexual abuse is the one crime where talking about sensible self-precautions is not only discouraged but deemed to be toxic. He's an alt-right pandering, intellectually dishonest charlatan. He's a terrible inspiration for young men, often leading to toxic MGTOW ideologies. He's not someone we want on a pedestal.

Good luck but I wouldn't be advertising support from people like Jordan Peterson and Christina Hoff Summers. They're problematic, to say the least.

He can think it was a traumatic sexual experience. Exactly this. There can be awful sexual experiences for men or women where no one is "at fault", it's just a tragic misunderstanding. Far too often people act like there needs to be a villain, but we forget that humans are just bags of meat flooded with hormones. Sometimes we just make bad decisions with terrible outcomes. No one needs to hang for it, we just need to learn and do better.

Ultimately it comes to down to the general implicit agreement to never judge feminism by their most extreme elements, and to only judge male advocacy by their most extreme elements.

Every element of masculinity and femininity has positive and negative facets. Masculine Strength becomes violence Resilience becomes emotional distance Assertiveness becomes arrogance Decisiveness becomes rashness Feminine Compassion becomes gullibility Co-operation becomes dependence Nurturing becomes smothering Emotional vulnerability becomes melodrama No "gendered" trait is inherently wrong. It only becomes so when it is done too much, too often or at the wrong time. The key problem is that s…

Agreed. I've been saying for awhile now that incel ideology should first and foremost been seen as society's failure of young men. These things don't grow in a void. But feminist ideology is predicated on the basis that men cannot be victims, so they will block any attempt to correct it.

I've never considered the parallel between wartime dehumanisation and the empathy gap but that's 100% on the money. In the eyes of feminism it's imperative that you don't consider the individual man; you must treat them as the big scary monolith, where the actions of one reflect on the whole. It's why they use weak proxies like masculinity and the patriarchy. Technically these aren't synonyms for men but practically they are.

Only response: it's pretty cool that we're receiving information from whatever parallel universe the author is living in. I wonder if the toilets flush in the same rotation there as well?

now that things are more equitable, girls outshine boys in learning. Can you imagine the almighty shitstorm that would happen if you replaced "girls/boys" with "white people/POC" in that sentence? The insinuation that boys are inherently less likely to succeed is disgusting.

It’s a vicious cycle. Men’s rights advocacy gets tainted, moderate MRAs are scared to voice their opinion in fear of being labeled misogynist, the only voices left that are willing to talk are the hardcore toxic extreme, so the movement gets even more tainted. And so on.

And there's an analogous parallel to the "spiritual vs religious" debate too. Even though I embrace a lot of the arguments and perspectives in feminism, I don't call myself a feminist because of the wider baggage of the movement. Just like there are people who believe in a higher power but don't ascribe to any particular religion because they're full of toxicity. I could never be a Muslim because of the arbitrary way they prohibit things like alcohol and pork/bacon. Likewise I could never call m…

No I'm sure he's referring to the short-lived theme park Warholand. Where kids could enjoy their favourite rides like the Pop Art rollercoaster, entertainment was provided by a choir of oddly coloured Marilyn Monroe impersonators and the only food available for purchase was Campbell's soup.

It falls under the umbrella of the "acceptable" men's rights issues, which is still firmly ringfenced around the things that are caused my men themselves, or by other men. It is still utterly verboten to address issues caused by women, feminism or greater society.

I'm not sure where you get the idea that there is no mental sexual dimorphism. Gender preferences in toys are demonstrated as early as 3 months old, well before the effect of social norms could be responsible. This phenomenon is so strong that it's even been observed in Rhesus monkeys. Note that this is prepubescent dimorphism. Considering the significant physiological dimorphism that occurs during puberty, it's highly unlikely that this doesn't continue to affect behaviour and mental dimorphism…

Interesting topic of conversation but I have to push back on the last line. We shouldn’t be excluding people from an issue just because they’re not as affected by it as us. Especially considering how often men are excluded from debates for this reason. It doesn’t need to be an issue that exclusively affects men to be appropriate here.

Important note because feminists will use this this slight inaccuracy to completely disregard the broader point.

Agreed. This is a men's rights sub. We, of all people, should understand the unacceptability of judging a group by the actions of the tiny minority given how often it happens to us.

I don't even blame them for it. They've never been expected to be there for men before, so they're just wholly unprepared to do so. They've never been forced to develop empathy for men. They can sympathetic to us, but rarely empathetic. Men OTOH are expected to be emotional sounding boards from a very young age. It's drilled into us from childhood to take women's feelings into account.

I think it's just performative on their parts. I don't think they actually believe it, they just rightly recognise that they will be dragged over the coals if they don't act like they do. Look how vilified they are in this article just for being associated with Harvey Weinstein early in their careers. They had nothing to do with Weinstein's abuse, but just being a man in Weinstein's circle is enough to get a target on your back. We're at the point where simply refraining from shitty behaviour is…

I'm pretty sure it's just an insecurity thing. Like "how could this chick not be totally wet for my sexy body!!!?". Also, for a lot of heterosexuals it's surprisingly hard to comprehend homosexuality as a concept. The opposite is probably easier simply because heterosexuality is "normal" and you'll be exposed to it almost exclusively from a young age. So for us there's always the temptation to write homosexuality off as "experimentation" as we can't really wrap our heads around being exclusively…
