Yeah, it's a bit much. Also worth keeping in mind it's a space with a lot of grifters looking to exploit vulnerable and lonely men. I think also there's a lot of money in stoking resentment and cynicism towards the opposite sex and the whole institution of dating and love and so on. Not that there's not challenges unique to the modern dating scene, especially for men it seems, but I think a lot of it is overcomplicated and exacerbated by people who make a lot of money from clicks. I'm certainly …

I'll leave this conversation here as I clearly addressed everything you said, read everything you linked, and gave good faith responses to each.

Sorry, didn't realise I was talking to a very serious person. Funniest shit I've read all day. Really presumptive opener, kinda weird tbh. Though, to be fair, I did edit my original post to be a little less combatative at the start so maybe that's what you saw. I did think you were mispelling 'fascists' at first, hahaha. So, I'll address things one by one. Fungi: Yes, they fall into their own category, but to my knowledge they don't show any signs of distress when plucked, chopped and eaten. As …

Do you really think a plant is as sentient as an animal? Has a central nervous system and experiences pain in the same way? Picking a flower is the same as beheading your pet? This is a tired, typical argument vegans hear often, you'd know this if you ever honestly investigated your position. Hmm, are the people who advocate for that preventing the suffering of a group of beings who can't speak for themselves (while also combating climate change) facists? Hmm, I'll really have to think about thi…

Hey brother, I feel you and feel I can relate to a lot of this. It's really hard to have some as far as you have with those serious but untreated mental illnesses, so I think you should give yourself some credit. If it helps, I'm in a similarish boat. Untreated mental illnesses for decades, severely in debt and not really seeing many reasons to stick around. I'm really glad you've got a solid team behind you, and I think if you 'stumble' along your healing journey don't beat yourself up and spir…

Sometimes I feel when women talk about and think about "men" they mean something more closely resembling the chad meme and the wealthy and powerful. Most guys aren't even in the definition and are invisible.

Thanks so much. Great advice too, thanks, I'm pretty nervous about it all and I think making notes about the experiences will be helpful.

Hey mate, thanks very much for the thoughtful response. I have suspected it could be something in this realm, currently my psych has put me on mood stabilisers for bi-polar and from my understanding they can have similar symptoms. Bit scary, and not sure if it's the answer, but it could change everything for the better I hope. Thanks again for your time.

Hey mate, sorry for the late reply. Really appreciate the message and the thoughtfulness. I'm glad to see teaching has been such a great move for you. :) Definitely feel I get where you're coming from. I'll try to keep it all in mind. Thanks again for your time, hope you're doing well.

That's cool man, yeah I think there's certainly something powerful about storytelling and even trying to see one's own life as a story one can control the narrative of somewhat. I've only watched the various animes, but yeah Berserk is awesome man. Have been trying to get some mushrooms as I felt some form of ego death would be beneficial but atm no luck. Something to think about, thanks mate, hope you're doing well.

Thanks man, thinking back this little convo did help me a bit I think. :) Slowly been getting the eating back to somewhat decent and pedalled to the gym yesterday and had a solid session, keen to get back tomorrow. Hope you're doing well mate, and I hope you're keeping your progress in perspective! From my experience, I could never appreciate the progress I'd made when I looked at myself in the mirror or w/e. But looking back a year or so later, I didn't realise how good I had actually looked an…

hey bro thanks for the reply Relatable, for sure! My first time stepping foot in the gym was about 4 years ago, and I still remember how ridiculous I felt being there, a big sloppy fat guy confusedly using the equipment for about 2 mins before getting embarrassed and leaving. But looking back it's pretty cool how far I've come despite the struggle and the relatively modest gains. And I don't know about you, I imagine at your more advanced level these things work differently when you come back af…

Hey man, thanks for the response, I feel I get where you're coming from as I've been through a similar process. Fell off pretty hard a couple of years back, stopped lifting and put on 30kg of fat, but trying to get myself back (and have lost about 20kg just walking everywhere and slowly getting my eating back to vaguely human). Yeah, I'll try to keep being kind to myself and appreciate the progress I've made. I'm proud of you too mate, you've obviously fought a lot of your own demons to make it …

Thanks for your time and the thoughtful response. I like your take, certainly. I think it's important to try to spread the vibe you think the world needs more of, and definitely seems like compassion, patience, kindness, love and so on are right up there. Have been planning to get some indoor plants, that's a good suggestion, cheers. Yeah, I'm not sure I expect happiness haha, just have times feeling fundamentally flawed or broken in some way I can't ever fix, so it all feels futile. Was having …

Thanks, I appreciate your response, that's really kind. I hope you're doing well. I'm disappointed the OP was so self pitying and focused on negatives, I prefer to focus on the few things I can control and generally trying to be a better dude. But so it goes, I guess. Will do, much appreciated.

Thanks for your time and the thoughtful reply. I do struggle to appreciate the 'victories' and not dismiss anything I 'accomplish' as worthless. Cheers, hope you're doing well.

Hey mate, thanks for taking the time and the kind words. I suppose I say 'fix myself' as I have perpetually felt unable to form connections with people, or I ruin them, and feel I have failed to be a functional person in general. So I guess I've tried to work on all those flaws and so on. I'm a bit disappointed with how self pitying my OP was, I do have thoughts like these I suppose but I try my best to operate through a lens of overcoming, acceptance and focusing on productive things instead of…

Yeah, he left when I was about 6. Had visits a few times up until I was around 9 or something, but for the most part he went to the pub during these. My mum was mentally ill and had a boyfriend for many years that was mentally and physically abusive towards me. After he left she found another partner and they soon moved away, and I was as physically alone as I had always been in every other facet of life. As to your question, I wish I knew. I'm 36 now and I feel much of my life has been an embar…

I'm ok. I've spent a long, long time working on my damage and myself. I'm 36 and I've not had a LTR and it does give me a bit of anxiety that there's a large part of my interpersonal or emotional development that's stunted because of this. I can't help but imagine that there's a form of growth that happens being near another human being for an extended period of time. It makes me think missing out on this experience means I'm less likely to be able to date as I'm older as expectations are differ…
