What has helped me most, has been asking myself in the grocery store, or at the restaurant, "Is this the best choice?". Ask the question every day, every decision. Is fucking off to binge watch Netflix the best choice? Or should you scrub the bathroom/kitchen/do your laundry? I have a hammock, and if my back is ever sore, it's a lifesaver. That being said, you deal with temperature issues differently in a hammock, namely the need for an under quilt, as you'll experience the true joys of convection. Also, it's far from space-saving, my hammock stand, while relatively narrow, is fifteen feet long, which is about the average hang distance for a hammock. Frogg Toggs. Gotta have boot and glove gaiters as well, but those wear out quickly enough that the only consistent part of the set is the Frogg Toggs. Cheap at 40-50 dollars a set, and I've found they usually last me about two years, or thirty thousand miles worth of riding, probably five thousand of which is in the rain.

Guzzi's are beautiful, love that transverse twin. Honda moved away from it in the early 80's but Guzzi stuck it out. I'd tell you to look into the newer guzzis, as the retain the same classic lines, but are much more reliable than the old classics. ​ They also retain the same "character". I've ridden a V7 and I really liked it, it felt... pure. Guzzi seems to have a talent for refining a bike to the pure essence of riding.

Look for a Honda Shadow 1100. Can be had quite cheaply, and due to a shaft drive, and hydraulic valve lifters, aren't maintenance intensive so as long as the previous owner changed the oil, you're good to go. You'll need something you can actually sleep in. A truck with a topper/camper on the bed, or a van. You will not sleep well in a car, which translates into a host of other issues. Miles and maintenance are of equal importance. Finding a good mechanic is hard, but you need to log some hours looking in your area on yelp, google reviews etc for someone. Expect to pay a couple hundred dollars to have a real inspection done, so make sure you are only bringing in a vehicle you think is a solid choice.

I hated camping when I was younger, but I tried it again a few years, as part of my four corners motorcycle ride (honestly to save money), and it turns out I just hated camping with other people. My bike fell over on me. I got a call, pulled over to shoulder to take it, and when I put down the kickstand I discovered the shoulder was in fact very loose/soft. My bike and I slid down an incline into the median where I then had to get out from under a 900lb bike. While lying down on a 15 degree incline. I ended up digging myself out.
