your post is spot on. before i found fds i had turned to my girlfriends thinking they would have some insight, but was peppered with terrible advice - soothe his ego, give him the benefit of the doubt, maybes he’s busy.. and on and on. at first i listened to them thinking they knew how to take a step back from the situation, but acting like a simpering pickme only made things worse. finally i got fed up with playing nice and walked away. i’m still getting unsolicited advice and opinions long aft…

it’s called covid-19, novel coronavirus, coronavirus disease. fucking get it right and keep the racist bullshit off fds. thanks.

thanks for this. i was thinking about checking up on someone that i had written off but have been worrying about with all of the covid shit going on. they won’t have any income since everything is closed and don’t have much of a support network so i thought maybe i should let them know i care and that i’m around if they need something. however after seeing this it seems like that is a typical and stupid thing to do. smh.

do what you would do if he wasn’t part of the equation. have fun and enjoy doing what you obviously love to do. don’t let him ruin it for you or change your course. wish i could be there to cheer you on because it does sound like it’s going to be a tough mental hurdle but you can definitely do this!

block him. it will help you to move on. just cut off the rot.

size 4 is not chubby. not even close. no don’t text. that guy is not worth your time and you don’t want to get hpv and cervical/ovarian cancer from his escapades in thailand. you need to work on learning how to love and care about yourself first. i think you should seek out a professional (counselor, therapist) if you haven’t already.

um, i believe this if he was a mentally ill bum? or if you’re eating in the library and he’s the librarian? makes zero sense in any other context.

just say no. when you add the “because...” (i didn’t bring money/tell him your actual lunch plan) then he has an opening to push again, thinking that maybe you didn’t mean it or he can convince you. no, but thanks for the invite. if you want to give a reason keep it vague. no, i have other plans already. if he asks how about some other time, tell him thanks and that you’ll let him know. and the one that will surely end the conversation - “what part of NO don’t you understand?”

that’s exactly what they tell you to do in the positive reinforcement dog training classes. i think it works for some, not necessarily all men (or dogs). personally i do it to show that i appreciate it and that i do notice. but i also think it’s important to not just “ignore” bad behavior.

I’m glad I’m not the only one! That’s what I’ve been doing but in some ways it almost feels like it’s making it even harder to meet a guy. Like my life is so complete there isn’t room or need for another person in it.

exactly! stay strong, be ruthless. you don’t need to put up with this shit.

You could try thinking of it differently - like instead of thinking that you’re just distracting yourself from being sad while you’re single, how about thinking of it as enjoying your freedom while you’re still single? A relationship is just the icing on the cake - it’s not the be-all and end-all of happiness in life.

Thanks for the suggestions - I’ve been there done that for all of these and have not met a single HVM this way. I have hobbies. I’ve met and dated guys through this and they’ve ruined the fun of said hobbies. Starting new ones just to meet guys feels contrived and unappealing to me. I quit going to parks/gyms because I was constantly being approached by creepy guys who made me feel unsafe. And a big fat nope to dating someone in my industry. Am I just backing myself into a corner here? Or is thi…

why bother meeting him if he already outed himself as an ultra-LVM?

how much do you like him? are you okay with waiting around for him while he works on himself? it sounds like he is not ready to be in a relationship yet. not thinking of you or considering you in his plans seems unrelated to the death of his college gf to me, and i predict that will be the default go-to excuse whenever he does something that would normally make you walk away. because guilt works soooo well. forget what he wants - what do you want? rereading your post i think you already know the…

maybe he should see his doctor about that. it has nothing to do with you.

you’re not an asshole. his problems are the direct result of his life choices. someone very close to me was in a similar situation and went through a lot before they finally had enough and kicked the guy out. they also felt like they were ruining his life by making things harder and making their (now ex) boyfriend effectively homeless - but he still landed on his feet and because he lost his “enabler” he had to actually get his shit together. just saying it again - his problems are not yours. th…

i might be going against the grain here but i wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing my income numbers with someone i’m just dating either. that being said - you can probably figure out about how much he makes if you look up his position/company on glassdoor. also the sale price of his house would be public record. based on that and knowing how much a tesla 3 costs you will have a pretty accurate picture of his monthly expenses and income.

if you’re using the app just go to the group main page, then at the top you’ll see a header with ‘posts / about / menu / rooms’. both the about and menu tabs have links to the handbook. took me a while to figure it out too :)

move on. sounds like he’s fishing for a reaction by trying to make you feel insecure/jealous. he lets you know he’s trolling around on tinder. then kisses a married woman and tells you about it? you know what to do.

doesn’t the guy have friends or family or his kid’s mother? there’s the homeless shelter if he doesn’t like his car. it’s not your responsibility to take care of him or his children. kick him out. he’ll find a place or he won’t but that’s his problem, not yours. not allowing others to take advantage of you doesn’t make you a bad person. kindness to others should not come at your expense.

Dump. He’s showing a lack of respect for you as well as the inability to think clearly and articulate his thoughts in a constructive way. You mentioned he has been your boyfriend for many years. The first time they try to pull that shit should be the last.

i just joined reddit (because fds!) so i don’t know if this is a no-no, but can you report him for targeted harassment? https://www.reddit.com/report?reason=its-targeted-harassment

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
