How about you read the FAQ for this subreddit instead of being a twit? This is a subreddit to talk about men's issues in the 21st century. Men commit suicide more than women, get longer jail sentences, and get awarded paternity rights less. They have more workplace deaths, are required to sign up for the draft or face consequences, and suffer more health issues while receiving less treatment. Men pay higher childcare costs and are burdened with providing for the family at the expense of feeling …

Do you want terror attacks? Because thats how you get terror attacks. See: France But seriously, singling any group out for "training" against a negative is going to get you angry people unless all those people have and accept that they have that tendency If some of those people do not act that way but are forced to wade through obvious bullshit to live a normal life then its pretty likely they wont like the bullshit someone has imposed on them

In your airplane example, what if the airline were not so polite about it? What if they said, "We know you can barely keep yourselves from lighting up a cigarette, but addicts are reminded not to smoke on our plane." - or something. Just imagine it not so politely - because 'indelicately' is the way 'teach men not to rape' is often conveyed. Its also singling out people more than reminding an entire group of passengers - I think 99.9% of men would have no problem if it was 'teach people not to r…

No, even though the teen pregnancy/STI rate has dropped dramatically I still think there is a lot of work to be done. No, but I don't think many adults of any age or gender have a 'perfect' understanding of consent. I think that while many US government bodies have made attempts to objectively define consent it is a very subjective idea that each person defines individually.

unless you're going to tell me that all rape victims who have babies from rape are the people who are doing this. Where in the hell did you get this from this post? This is not a real poster designed to actually bring awareness about the plight of dumpster babies. It is designed to show women what it feels like when someone says your gender as a group needs to be 'taught' something. You could also say, teach women not to be late, teach women how to drive, (both stupid things that clearly only so…

This isn't literally a campaign poster to stop babies from being thrown in the dumpster. It's a parody of "teach men not to rape" PSA's that has been reworked to say "Teach women not to throw babies in dumpsters" - which clearly not all women need to be taught, only some women. This is trying to illustrate for women why "teach men not to rape" alienates men who never had to be 'taught not to rape'

you don't think that spurning reactions dehumanizes people? Have you ever tried to pass out flyers for something? Or get signatures? Or tried to sell something on the side of the road? Sure, nobody owes you anything when you do that. But to ignore them is to dehumanize or at least diminish them.

I think it happens where they pick on a weaker older male - a mentally or physically handicapped individual. Bullies don't pick on strong people, they pick on weaker people. There's always someone, or something, weaker than a person for them to pick on.

Yes, because having oppressed classes is detrimental for everyone (see: Ubuntu. But the stated mission was to provide equal protection and rights under law for certain groups. And people even disagreed on how to achieve rights for their select group and made separate factions working for the same aim (e.g. Malcolm X vs. MLK).

Yes, the Civil Rights movement did tangentially improve the lives of poor white southerners, but to say that was any actual objective of the movement is asinine

Yeah, I think that plays it perfectly. Men benefit from some unfair sex-based advantages. Poor men may not be extremely privileged, but they are privileged relative to poor women. I believe given equal SES, men have slight advantage over women still. It's just that for the bottom 30% of men, probably 65% of women have it better than them. So they need someone to speak up for their issues.

men have always, and will continue to have more privilege than women This is why feminists are alienating men. Feminism is blind to the areas in which men are underprivileged, or areas in which women experience grossly disproportionate advantages. I am an egalitarian and I will champion either gender when they are underprivileged. But it is rare to see a feminist fight for a men's issue.

It's basically like the oil and environment lobbies. Both are trying to lobby the government for what they see as 'equality' or 'parity'. It's just that the oil lobby makes situations like this. So the environment lobby comes through and doesn't start lobbying for oil rights, they start lobbying for environment rights. The environment lobby is still trying for equality, but they aren't going to go all helping the oil lobby because clearly as soon as they 'gave in' the oil lobby would run wild an…

My point was more to the effect that, if we're gonna compare marriage to existing social constructs, better to do it with a patriarchal social construct than a social construct with its roots in slavery. You aren't communicating clearly because you are hiding behind words and phrases with no objective meaning. Custody is a real thing. 'Patriarchal social constructs' is not. At least its not unless your sociology textbook already defined it.

much of this money is spent on things like detergent, toilet paper, food for the family, etc., so while it's accurate to say they "control it" it doesn't necessarily mean they own it or they're spending it for their benefit. You do not understand this article, and what it is referencing, in the slightest. For example, back in 2008, U.S. News and World Report released data telling us that women controlled 60% of the wealth in the United States. That figure was estimated to be approximately $10-$1…

because society is so used to the concept of a woman being harasse You think if a person was getting harassed by a group of 4+ individuals that people are minding their own business because it's a woman? No, that's a survival game. If that person is already playing a victim, it takes a special type of person to step in and change the tables against seemingly insurmountable force. People of either gender should not expect people to step in without calling for help and without assisting themselves…

No. Do I blame them? No. Does that sound like fucking male privilege to you? Does that sound like the situation you think men are immune to because we have testicles? So, if you were accosted on the street by a number of people who were each physically stronger than you, in a public place, you wouldn't expect someone to help you out? This is not what I am saying. No, not at all. I believe that street harassment is an actual problem, and while not the greatest problem afflicting women today, it merits attention. I don't think that anyone should experience sexual harassment. That said, I believe the solution is empowering women, not demonizing men. And I certainly don't think the solution is painting women as 'damsels in distress' who need to be 'protected' from street harassment. Which is not exactly what this article is doing. But I didn't quote the arti…

You are missing my point. You are starting from the assumption that a bystander is obligated to help. This is something I would agree with. But obligated why, exactly? Because of a basic level of humanity? Yeah, I agree, we are all obligated to help a person in need, simply because today you, tomorrow me. But because of the assailed party's gender? Sorry, you lost me. And that is the reasoning behind that comment.
/r/MensRights12/09/13 11:20 PM

That's not true at all. If you gave this to article to 10 people to read without specifically mentioning the assigned gender of the street harassers, how many would say that the article had assigned 'male'? I'd bet it's close to 10. Why? Because the people on my facebook page all thought that the article had specifically mentioned men, because the people in the comments section thought that the article had specifically labeled men, and because the people who are reading it now think the article …

I wrote this after spending more time in the comments section than on the actual article. I will admit that I may have unfairly castigated the author due to the opinions and writing of the readers. Asking about what happens to women in defeated nations is to ignore the total loss of life on one hand, and on the other, that the men in the defated nation will be treated far, far worse then the women. This is comparing apples and oranges. Would you rather be raped repeatedly for days and live the rest of your life a wreck or get shot in the head and die in an instant? I have to disagree that radical feminism is the only problem with feminism. 40 year old women graduated from high school 22 years ago. They don't know what the current education system looks like. And that's 40 year old women - they aren't even the most powerful age group. I'd say that American society gives the most power to the 50-70 age group, because they vote, and spend a lot of money. And women in that age group graduated from high school 32-52 years ago. So their perception of 'the realit…

I think that history class is about history... not about men. Your perception is caused by the lack of world-changing women more than a misogynist agenda. I learned about Marie Curie, Cleopatra, Marie Antoinette, Harriet Tubman, Joan of Arc, Rosa Parks, Sanger, to name a few. These are notable women for history. It's when Women's history comes around that we learn about Earhart and Keller and Sacagawea and Susan B. Anthony and the other women that have become idols of the modern age - not necess…

Thanks. Better than that person who kept calling my life bullshit...

What? How can you think this? You never learned about ANY women in your history classes? And the point I am always trying to make is that I have not ever marginalized women, but I have been treated as though I have. This is the basis of discrimination against men, "Some guy did this in 1910 so since you were born in 1989 and live in 2012 you should suffer for it!"

You are life sounds really difficult I had to work to not be scary. I used to be quiet and withdrawn, but I decided that I wouldn't be and joined a fraternity, went to parties, learned how to be social and cool and funny through trial and error. You think you understand how discrimination works, but you do not.

Haha I'm actually really well liked on my campus. I've got a sort of "death of a salesman" sort of deal with being well liked. So generally I'm not scary. But I'm 6'5" 250 and when I walk alone at night its not uncommon for people to cross the street.

I think this thing devolved because of a troll. I'm pretty disappointed that she had to delete her account because of the reaction of /r/MensRights... we really should be able to hold ourselves to a higher standard.

And clearly her one sentence fleshed out her full position on the topic. She could just be a libertarian and not like the nanny state. Saying the government shouldn't be involved in individuals' sex lives does not make you pro-pedophilia.

Not sure that the person she responded to warranted a civil comment. Purposefully misunderstanding a statement is infuriating and bordering on trolling. People really voted the wrong way on this one.

GJ doxxing me to figure out what "this country" is. Oh wait, you assumed and stereotyped. Nice work!

No, no, no, no. Why are the sins of my fathers visited upon me? I have never oppressed. I have never hated. But I am blamed for the oppression and hatred of those before me. It isn't fair, and if you can't see that, you're blind. EDIT: Also, everyone assumes I'm white on reddit? I guess we're all from Oklahoma on WhiteAmericaReddit. Oh wait, anyone, anywhere in the globe can be on this website. You stereotype more than you think you do.

Damn, but you're mean. I was told that. I do not feel that. I never have. But somehow people are still afraid of me. And its not a good feeling when people are afraid of you and you can't help it.

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize you spoke for the entire subreddit. Stop being a douche, dude.

do you think all women are sociopathic bitches who "wallow in attention and sympathy"? No, of course not. But if you aren't willing to admit that some are, that maybe, possibly, gasp, the same percentage of men that are vile enough to rape mirrors the percentage of women who would be vile enough to falsify a report of one, you could see just how many there are. P.S. Also please note that your opinion of a woman who would falsify a rape mirrors the opinion of many men of a man who rapes: "they mu…

how dare you compare your plight as a white man to that of a black person? seriously? jesus fucking christ If you aren't willing to listen to people and what they say, you shouldn't say you are. If someone says something, especially in this subreddit, they probably feel that way (i.e. less trolls that will say something just to be a dick). Instead of insulting them, ask them why they feel that way. You could be surprised at what you learn.

Let me share my story, and how I got to be on the MR subreddit. When I was in 2nd grade, my entire school went to a rally about how women can succeed in the sciences, how women are good at math. At this time (probably about 1998) there were actually more men than women at collegiate institutions. When I was in 4th/5th/6th grade it was school policy that Women's History was the major focus of school activities during Women's History month. There is no Men's History month. When I got to high schoo…
