When I divorced in 2015, it was still a top-line deduction. The new tax law makes zero sense to me.

Because the States family courts don't want the irresponsible spouse on welfare. Period. That's all it's really about.

The States' family courts do this to keep these parasites off the state welfare. It's simply easier to make the responsible spouse pay for the lazy one instead of the state. Just happens that it's skewed badly along gender lines

Oh, I had one of those. We didn't even have kids. She basically quit working at 42 because of what I was making. The judge ordered $3500/month to that Cee U Next Tuesday for 5.5 years on a 9 year marriage. She blew it all by quitting her job and living off me. When the vaginimony ended, she moved in with her mother at the age of 55. Losers gonna lose. I recovered, got nicely back into the 2 comma club and I'm living my best life.

Don't do it. Just don't. Listen to those on this forum that have made the mistake. Listen to them and not your own insecurities about women. She's not the prize you think she is. Enjoy being together without a contract with the state that gives her half your shit in 10 years when she falls out of love.

Oh yeah, her attorney focused on my variable income to calculate the spousal support. By the time they were done with me, I kept less of my take-home pay than she did. At least I was divorced before Trump changed the tax laws so I got to take a top-line deduction. I've posted my story on this forum and I think it makes some good points. It's easy to get angry about it all. Channel that anger into being a better man and you'll get through this chapter of your life.

She got half the marital portion of the vested RSU's. I don't own unvested RSU's until they vest, so how can you place a value on them? We divorced while my company was going through massive layoffs so i legitimately could have lost all my unvested shares by being laid off. She got in total around $700K in cash, 401K and vaginamony so the RSU's were a relatively small amont by comparison. Plus, my ex is dumber than a potato so she agreed 👍

To be fair, the "not guaranteed" was something I came up with and my Attorney happened to agree and go to bat for me

I specifically had my attorney exclude unvested RSU's. The reasoning is that they were of zero value and only guaranteed by my employment which was not 100% guaranteed by my employer. Her attorney agreed 👍

I totally agree. It's an egregiously unfair welfare scheme designed to keep lazy women off welfare and fund country club memberships for family law attorneys and judges. It is nothing more

Well, there is a reason I'm attracted to younger women as well. But very good advice in general. American women in their 50's that have not let themselves go are getting hard to find. I'd be lying if I said the physical attraction isn't important to me.

Yes. Just nope the fuck out of the situation if it starts to get serious. Relationships should be mutually fulfilling and fun. Remember boys, "getting serious" is what led you down the path of the state handing her half your money in a divorce settlement. If a woman wants to enjoy the lifestyle I can afford, she can go out to dinner with me or stay the night, or go on a fun vacation. It always comes up when I'm out socially, it's like the single moms can smell my fucking money and they are just …

Whatever you do it, do it soon. 10 years is the point where in some states it's considered a long-term marriage and the alimony rules can change dramatically

Great thread. I was the one who filed. She was chronically underemployed. As I earned more, she got lazier. Any time she was asked to put in extra effort in a job to get to the next level, she would quit. Her excuse was it was too stressful. She was an awful drunk. Wrecked my car, got it impounded driving drunk etc. She only tried to be intimate when she was drunk out of her mind... No thanks, the failed BJ and pass out routine got old really fast. I remember the Saturday morning that she starte…

I have two older posts here that may help you. They are titled "Perspective" and "The simple things" they detail my experience and I was in the almost exact position you are in early in my marriage. I did not see the signs back then but you have time on your side.

Get. Out. Now. You are where I was @ 4 years in. Hire a good lawyer and get out. I waited, thinking it would get better and it did not. I funded a second degree for her but she remained chronically underemployed. I waited too long and divorced after 9 years. We had no kids. It still cost me over 1/2 a million dollars to buy my freedom at age 50. Do it now, do not get trapped.

I'm rooting for you 110%. You got this. Take a break from the dating scene for a bit. You need to focus on getting through the legal battles. Whoever told you that gave you great advice. You might be a year older when it's final, no worries, you have time on your side. Be wary, I just had an interaction with a single mom and I swear, she could smell money from a mile away. I noped the fuck out of that. Don't let your physical desires get you right back onto a bad situation. Nature gave you a way…

Of course you can. Mine nearly wiped me out financially. At the time, I thought there was no way out except bankruptcy. Hell, the judge gave her half the marital portion of the 401K, a 401K that she never contributed a damn penny to. Luckily, I had started the contributions 10 years before we even met so I still had a reasonable amount left, not a lot...but something. She got a spousal award that equaled more than half of my take-home pay ($42K/year for 5.5 years). All this for someone who had 2…

The trick is to put every ounce of sadness, anger, depression and heartbreak into bettering yourself. It took me a few months after the final decree to realize I could channel all those emotions into improving myself and my life.

Well, it is finally over. I paid for my freedom. After 5 1/2 long years of financial hardship, I am a free man, financially free from the human parasite that used to be my wife. Keep the faith and remember what I originally posted "Peace and love all, I feel your pain and wanted to share my story...There is light at the end of the tunnel and it's called freedom."

Freedom is awesome. Just watch nature shows and the occasional 2 1/2 men... It's a somewhat dated look at both sides...mysogeny and commitment. Also, it's funny as hell.

Just checking in boys. Stay strong. I've got 6 weeks until the alimony ends. Keep the faith, take care of yourself.

It isn't always that simple. Her "work ethic" as fine at the start but diminished as my earnings increased. Every time I faced a difficult challenge at my job, I worked harder, overcame, changed divisions, whatever it took to succeed. Every time my ex face a challenge at work, she quit and looked for something less challenging. SHE made a unilateral decision to live off me like a parasite, there was no joint decision in what she chose to do.
