Heheh, I hear ya, I definitely don't want to hear those words. Cheers for the recommendation.

Holy shit thanks. Heheh, feels weird i've never measured myself before but now I see why one would do that ;) The ones I bought were definitely too small, could only get it on half way. Fortunately she had a larger one but maybe it was too large.

Yeah, could be that actually. She does complain about this guy an awful lot, who knows. But you're probably right. She's also pretty unreliable. (Currently not texting me back about tonight..) So yeah, moving on. Too bad, I really like her. Oh well.

True. I'd only do it if it could be slipped in pretty damn smoothly.

So I have this weird situation, maybe someone can give me some advice. I've been sort of flirting with this girl for about a week and a half, and we had a very romantic date last week. However, I had trouble escalating. I found opportunities for kino but she didn't reciprocate. Of course, there's a back-story. She is currently breaking up with a previous boyfriend. I know this because she keeps mentioning it. However, she seems to be having a hard time letting go, she doesn't want to just dump h…

I feel like the first one is better than the second. First one is a joke and gives her an opportunity but also an "out" (by keeping it as a joke). Second one could go well, but there's an equal chance it might make her really shy and block things. (Getting too serious too quickly.) I think a better version of #2 would be: I'll answer that if you give me your number or How about I call you some time to let you know?

I'm no expert, but here's my tip. Realize that you can appreciate her eyes! You are looking at her chest because.. well.. boobs. Of course, like anyone, I love a good pair, but in all honesty the fact is that a girl's face is her best feature. I think I would hate being with someone who had a good body but an ugly face. Conversely, i can deal with small boobs, small butt, or whatever, as long as she is actually pretty, starting with the face. So... my point is this. When you look at a girl, look…

Really nice to hear someone thinking the same way I do, I have to say. I have been reading this subreddit for tips on how to act, how to escalate, etc, how to improve my life in general, but I am not actually interested in "PUA," but rather in meeting people I genuinely like. (Which happens to include meeting as many people as possible... it's a numbers game after all, just like PUA.)

Does she not want you at all, or not want you right now? Sometimes someone is just not in the same place as you in their life, and it's not the right time. That doesn't mean you should wait for her, it just means there is an explanation for why it's not working, and you have no choice but to shrug your shoulders and move on. It hurts but the sooner you do it the better. Stay friendly though, even if you stop hanging out. That's kind of the position I'm in at the moment. I recently met an awesome…

I agree on the congruence thing. I've been out a few times lately where I've had a good time but not much liked the actual venue, particularly the music. Since music is important to me I found it incredibly distracting to have to "pretend" to be enjoying it. I've since decided to concentrate more on going to events and venues where I'm more into the music, it would make it easier to have an honest discussion with people around me I think. By the way, nothing wrong with T-dot, but in all seriousn…

Holy crap you just described someone I work with, he does this all the time and I could never figure out how he could get away with asking such bold questions. It blows me away everytime, because it works. Some girls hate him for it but more often he comes out as the group leader when we're socializing.

In hindsight this is the obvious thing to do. Thank you for pointing it out. I really need to get quicker on my feet when talking to people. I've often wondered if i'm just "slower" than others in some ways. I'm educated and good at technical things but somehow i just tend to be slow on the ball when it comes to socializing. Even something as obvious as "change the subject if you don't like the direction" somehow escaped me. And the mechanics of successfully (fluidly) changing the subject is so …

I've sort of tried that but the problem is that no matter how concise I try to make it, they always ask for more, so I keep going a bit at a time until they give up. (Admittedly sometimes they are honestly interested. Although you'd think my thoughts would be "bonus!", the weird thing is that i don't really care if it's interesting, when i'm out having a good time i don't really want to talk about work.) Anyways, mr capcom is right, the answer is to take control of the conversation and change th…

A lot of the things you can do are similar to a smaller city, there's just a lot more options, and more people, everywhere. More music events, more parks, more festivals during the summer, and people, people everywhere. I've spent many evenings already down at the river, where thousands of people go to drink wine and picnic in the evening. After the sun goes down, things start getting pretty social and it's fairly easy to interact with groups around you. You can make sure to have picnic things o…

I see a HB8 near me who is looking pretty uncomfortable with a guy Wow, I need to work on recognizing this kind of thing. I'm terrible when it comes to seeing girls with guys in clubs. I can never tell if they're just friends, don't know each other, or are together. I mean, I've definitely been in situations where it seemed like maybe I could get away with chatting up a girl, but there's a guy there too, and it's not obvious whether they are together. I definitely don't want to be in the situati…

Was trying to avoid saying it for privacy reasons (I guess that came off as obvious). however, I guess it doesn't hurt. I've moved to Paris. It's both awesome and frustrating, as there are an indescribable number of amazing girls around. Don't get me wrong though, I'm loving it and making friends slowly, and going out a lot which is great. I'm just not used to not having my usual circle, and the whole single thing is pretty new for me still.

I fully agree, because actually I also hate it when this happens to me. It seems that I inevitably get asked this and I dislike it because actually what I do for a living takes a little explanation, so it quickly gets boring. (I'm a research engineer.) So on this subject, What are some good techniques for avoiding asking this question? I know that the obvious answer is "well, talk about circumstances around you, or the weather, or other stuff.." But the fact is, when you're talking to someone, d…

Other lessons I learned: go to places where people actually want to meet people. i.e., happening bars. This is a better idea than trying to meet random strangers who are relaxing in the park. Maybe it seems obvious in hindsight but I'm not used to going to overly crowded bars. I think I might focus more on bars that play music I like, however. just fucking introduce yourself. Once I got over initial introductions I had no problem talking to people. It's the initial "hello" that I get so nervous …

Okay so I may as well use this thread to post about my progress. Partly due to discovering seddit and reading several posts, last night I made some real progress and I'd like to write about it briefly. Well, I spent the weekend thinking about things I'd read here and walking around the city trying to challenge myself to find people to talk to in certain parks and squares where I know people like to go to relax. Not many opportunities presented themselves, but the few that did, I froze up and did…

Mine are definitely programming and reading No, these are not good enough. Listen to me: My hobbies are also programming and reading. However, it occurred to me far, far too late in life that this approach to life is not enough. Get yourself a physical hobby, stat. Spend time away from the computer. Do something sporty. Learn to build things. (With, life.. material and hammers and stuff, not on the computer.) Learn to take things apart. Find a group of people who play soccer or volleyball on the…

Move to a bigger city? Move to a city where you literally can't stay home because there's too much to do. That's what I've done... when you're comfortable with it and feeling complacent again, move to another one. That said, there's something to be said for a little more relaxed approach to life. Just make sure to always keep a watchful eye on your relationship, these things tend to slip more easily and subtly than you expect. Not to be a downer, but just because you "have a girlfriend" doesn't …

Question, I've got this problem, in a way, but maybe different: I don't try to act smart, and honestly I play it pretty cool and don't talk about my work. But eventually the question is always asked, what do you do? And I don't want to lie, I'm a post-doc researcher at a university. I mean, I don't see why I shouldn't tell the truth here, but then the next question is always, "oh what do you do, what are you working on", and then I have to explain it... and frankly, as professionally interested …
