You ever seen South park? RESPECT MY AUTHORITY! Respect is earned, and I'm telling him how he can earn it. If she doesn't respond after that, then that's her problem, bit you can't TELL someone to respect them

'Putting her in her place', is the language abusive men use when they abuse their wives. There's a huge difference between between that, and establishing and maintaining boundaries. Respect is earned, not forced, and telling someone, especially your wife to 'cut that shit out' is a sure fire way to get someone's back up. This is why men shouldn't be listening to other men about how to treat women. Because this is what they come out with.

It's really hard to say from 2 statements on reddit who is at fault here, it could be both, it could be neither. If you can afford couples counselling, then that could definitely be a way forward. Set clear boundaries and enforce them in a respectful way. 'Please don't speak to me in that way, I appreciate that I've done something to upset you, but that's not the way to speak to somebody you're supposed to love'. If you feel you're doing everything you can, and treating her in the way that you w…

Use a different way of phrasing things. 'You're being a little bit difficult in this situation', rather than 'you're so difficult!'. 'Can you explain x differently please, as im having a hard time understanding what you mean', rather than 'youre not making any sense'. Label the behaviour and not the person. Show each other appreciation. No, you don't NEED thanks when you do daily chores, but it's nice to have it. She puts your clothes in the dryer? 'Oh, thanks!'. Treat her like you would like to…

I don't know, but there will definitely nothing done if we don't keep speaking up. I refuse to stop speaking up, refuse to be silenced, and I refuse to stand by and do nothing, just because nothing has been done before. I KNOW they have this information, this evidence, these stories of victims and what they have been through, but I'm going to keep telling them, until they listen, and do something. I can't let me daughter grow up in a world where she feels even less safe than we do at the moment.

I got a bus lane ticket 2 months ago in my partner's car, as I saw my ex pulling up behind me. He wouldn't have even noticed it was me in that car. I still took the left lane (bus lane), and got the f away. You're not alone.

Yeah, women seem to split the workload more fairly with each other. Based on strengths, time consumption etc. In relationships, it always seems to be women making the biggest steps, with the 'middle' being deemed more like 'somewhere in between', usually closer to the man..

Haha I'm from the UK. Nando's is a popular, Portuguese-based (based very loosely imo!) Chicken restaurant. It's somehow become very popular with some of people, even though all it really serves, is chicken. It also because the norm to call a meal there, a 'cheeky' nandos. Nobody quite knows why. To be fair, they've done a pretty good job for now. A lot of the problems stem from having to leave them with a certain amount, other kids etc. Plus, a imagine having to speak to all those low lives, every day? Must be soul destroying! The self employment thing is hilarious. The amount of people kicking off about how they're being 'screwed over ' by the government, when they're the ones that have been doing the screwing, is laughable. Also loving your username.

It's their obligation to pay their way, and their privilege to be a part of their life. Guys over here don't get thrown in jail for not paying, but their credit score can get completely annihilated. Kids aren't transactional.

I'm in the UK, I get 10% of my ex's wages as child maintenance. They legally have to leave him with at least 60% of his income (after taxes). I'm currently getting 15%, as he decided not to pay for 4 months, and they're having to garnish his wages. He kicked off because he's 'paying for something (he's) not getting). As in, he's paying child maintenance, and not seeing our daughter. Like she's a netflix subscription service...

I mentioned this the other day in another comment. The beauty industry has focused on women for so long, than now men think it's effeminate to wash their arsecracks and face. It's got so far, that now men need celebrities, high level sports people, and actors, to let them know it's MORE THAN ok to wash. Women just get showed a computer enhanced of eyelashes, and we're there.

This is a really good point. The beauty industry has been targeting women for SO long, that now men see taking care of themselves as being feminine. Men need celebrities, high level sports players, actors etc, to tell them that actually, it's MORE THAN Ok to wash their faces and ballsacks. Women have been conditioned to buy a products based on a computer based enhanced image of longer eyelashes.

Definitely, I wish there was a different flair for 'standard behaviour' or something similar. I'm also still not used to having people do this for me. He does lovely things all the time, this one just caught me by surprise. All the minor efforts in a relationship add up. My rule has always been to accompany them to the bar. If he was polite, he would have asked if I wanted another drink when I returned, instead of just sneaking to the bar when I left the table. If I leave the table to go to the toilet, I always leave my glass empty, to avoid someone slipping something in.

That first comment!!!! Have you tried fucking talking to her!? She tried to talk to him about not dragging dirst through the house, that she is obviously the main caretaker of, and he completely ignored her! He wanted her to notice that he washed the pots and fed his children, and let her sleep in, but he clearly doesn't appreciate it when she does the same for him daily. He baited and switched the first date (we arrived at a restaurant, to be told we were an hour late for our booking, and our table had been given up). Ended up in a chain restaurant with a 2-for-1 deal on. Decided to test if this was on purpose or not afterwards. He asked if I would like to go for a drink to 'make up for the mix up', so I accepted. I once got my drink spiked in a bar. My ex's new girlfriend (who hated me at this point), told the guys on the door that I was on drugs, so they would kick me out (I wouldn't leave), then, once out, called us a taxi, took me back to her house, let me sleep in her bed, and drove me home the next day. I don't mean from the joint accounts, I mean from her husbands personal, standalone assets, IF he had any. If that ends up being something menial, then meh. I'm not saying it's her job to arrange it, or her job to provide. Also, if his mum was that much of an idiot to sleep with a married man, are we really holding out much hope for her raising him?

Oh yeah, definitely, I didn't mean any of the shared assets at all. They're rightfully hers. Also, like you said, a trust fund would not be the responsibility of the wife to set up. I more meant that child should probably inherit SOMETHING, like a child born into wedlock would, and that this should be decided by the judge who is in the court when the will is contested. If that ends up being a watch, well then that's that. I know I sound very pickme, I can just never shake the 'think of the child…

I feel like I could have written this myself. Karma will hit when he is 80+ and alone, with nobody to visit him in his car home, he has no pension, and no friends. This is time for the long game. So glad you got out, and are feeling better!

Surely if men were decent to begin with, she would still be with the first one? Why is this about how many men she has dated, rather than how many men clearly didn't live up to her expectations!?

Maybe they should try and live up to those standards then, rather than trying to lower other people's expectations to meet their sub-par actions? Just a thought...

Was it Roman women, who kept a knife on them at all times, to defend herself, if her husband got violent? It was seen as a mark of dishonour if a man had a mark on him that wasn't from war. Domestic violence was severely looked down upon. Nowadays, if your 'man' is violent, it MUST be your fault, for winding him up, and pushing him over the edge 🙄

No problem at all. If these don't suit your needs, if you type 'advocacy services/charities in (your area)', into Google, you may be able to find somewhere that does. Best of luck to you for anything you may need in the future x

https://www.disabilityrightsuk.org/advocacy-get-your-voice-heard Here's a link for you, with a list of quite a few in the UK. I hope one is close to you! (I realise you may not have disabilities, but it's a comprehensive list of them for you!)

Oh I believe it's real, I just wasn't sure of the scale. I'm glad you got your surgery safely, and I'm sorry you had to go through all that, just to be safe. I've been speaking to a friend about this, who does a lot of charity work. I'm not sure if you are aware, but there are a few advocacy charities in the UK, who operate for free, or for a very low fee. They go to any appointments with you, or anywhere important, and give you backup and another voice, if you feel yours isn't being heard. This…

You can block them on Insta, and lockdown your profile. If they try again from a different account, it goes to a different part of your inbox, where you can read what they say, without them knowing, and then just ignore that, or block the extra accounts, whichever you see fit. Just don't engage, they're trying to wear you down into settling for them.

My friend has been with her bf for TWELVE years. Has a child with him, another on the way, they have bought and renovated TWO houses together. She still doesn't have a ring on her finger. She jokes about it on the book of faces, but you can tell it's eating away at her, or she wouldn't be making a point of it. She's literally begging him, on social media for a ring, and he just laughs it off. He's got all the wife benefits, without being married, why would he even bother!?

Wow, that's absolutely disgusting. Thankyou for helping me understand. Just adding an edit, as I've just managed to get the Facebook link to work. What you potentially have to go through, to have as much safety as a white lady is absolutely appalling, and I'm truly sorry that our society has made this the norm for you. I'm in the UK, so I'm not sure how prevalent these issues are here, but I'm going to do some research, and educate myself on them, so I can further understand and help to educate …

As a white woman, I'm curious. Are ladies of colour more likely to experience worse than white women due to healthcare, biology, or a little of both? I tried to Google my question, but got results medical journals etc that I really don't understand.

My ex 'I'm buying a house, you'll live there with me when I get it, because I'll be different'. Spoiler. He's still not bought a house, I'm still not going to move in. I still don't like him as a human being, let alone as a potential life partner. But sure sweetie, you go buy your big house, and rattle around in it all by yourself. Ah well, at least he won't be living with his mum anymore...

My current partner has clinical depression. You know what he does? Takes his medication, and has a standing, monthly appointment with his therapist. You know what he does when he thinks none of that is working? He calls his therapist, asks for a couple of extra appointments, and then calls his doctor for a medication review. You know what he doesn't do? He doesn't take it out on me. Not once has he used his mental health issues as justification for his actions (good or bad). Those that do (man o…

This is an extremely well articulated answer. Abusers are mostly quite clever with the way they abuse. A lot are subliminal messages and implications, rather than outright threats. They're extremely good at manipulation tactics, and gaslighting to the extreme.

Nothing was ever good enough, anywhere in his life. Our home was never tidy enough. After having my daughter, he went back to work 3 days later (he was entitled to 2 weeks paid paternity leave), and I had to brunt the housework load. He always had clean clothes for work, his tea on the table, hot water for a shower etc. He would come in from work, drop his pants in the living room, dump his work bag at the door, and get in the shower. Then moan the living room was a mess, and what had I been doi…

THIS!!! Most can't even name their child's favourite food, let alone the last time they had a TDAP. I once asked my NV ex to go to the shop and get some baby wipes. I got asked 'which ones'. 1. You should know this. 2. If you don't, look at the packet before you leave. 3. If you don't do either of the above, just pick up the first pack that you see, that looks half decent, it's only going to be used to wipe up poop! 'How much calpol should I give her?' READ THE GODDAMN BOX!!!

He was raised by his mum (who I never got the chance to meet, before she sadly passed), and I definitely think that had something to do with it. He also spent a lot of time in therapy (and still has monthly sessions to 'check in'), after a bad relationship, and learnt where he went wrong, and fixed those behaviours. He isn't always completely perfect, but the fact he is still working on himself, completely voluntarily, is a definite attractive and HV attitude to have, where I'm concerned, anyway…

It's definitely true that most boys are more rambunctious and heavy handed than girls. From my experience, anyway. However, when that gets to the point of hurting others and putting others in danger, there needs to be sanctions put in place for them. The same goes for girls bad behaviour. If we go to someone else's house, or anywhere really, if someone sees my child misbehaving, they are more then welcome to tell my child 'no', and impose suitable punishments where they see fit (sit on the stair…

I stand by 'everyone is the perfect parent, until they jave kids', myself included in that statement. However, not having children, doesn't mean you can't spot shitty behaviour in a child when it happens, and we can all spot the parents who are just having a bad day, vs the ones who let them get away with it on a daily basis.

Nope, he did it because he could get away with it. Because nobody told him to stop. He did it to get a rise out of you, and to challenge your boundaries. I would absolutely flip my lid, if a teacher, or any other person told my daughter this. Imagine being the girl in school that wasn't being bullied, being jealous of the girls that were, because she thought she was undesirable!?
