Draw a hard line. She needs to choose him or you. If she choses you, no contact with the ex, period. Work hard to fix and make the marriage the best it can be. There is no version of her sleeping with the ex that is even a little ok for you. She is wanting to try out the "greener pastures" without losing you, then decide which she wants to keep. Not to mention, statistically, any relationship where the woman has sex with another man/men, have over a 95% failure rate.

That is one I never understood. Best case scenario, we are taking out combined incomes, and doubling our living expenses. Our standard of living has to go down. I am operating on the assumption, we will take our total household income at the time we separate (or impute her income from her last job), divide it in half, and I will need to pay her whatever it takes to get her to half of that total. We will both take a hit on standard of living, but it would be equal.

At this point, I honestly don't want to leave, however, it is very clear I have to give up everything I am and want for her to be happy, or similar for me, we are just too different. Marriage counselling over the years makes short term changes, but things return after a short period. Now with the last kid moving out, my motivation for putting up with it all goes down. I am willing to give it an honest try to see if things are any different or better as empty nesters, but I doubt it. If they are …

If I could give her everything except the apartment and walk away with my income I would be thrilled. I have no heartache starting over if I have the tools to do that. How would a trust help?

I have no heartache giving her half of the assets, even though they were gained in spite of her rather than with her. We married with nothing, so half of the assets is fair. My concern is things like the house. Emotionally I want to move out ASAP after it happens, but I don't want to forfeit the asset just to get out asap. I see all the time to "stay in the house" until at least a separation agreement is reached. However, I think that is based on the kids, not the asset. Bottom line I don't real…

Right now we are still together, working on the marriage, but it does not look good, so I am getting ready for the next steps, if we need to go that way. We are both on the deed, so she can't sell. My concern is the equity in the home. (about $180-$200k). I don't think she could afford the house if she were to buy me out, unless she gave up her claim to half the 401k and I don't see that happening, so I assume we will need to sell it at some point and split the equity. I just don't want to loose…

She was a SAHM till 2015, got a part time job that grew into a full time job, basically $20/hr. Then a year or so ago, she quit and is trying to start her own business. At this point, she could make more working part time as a barista. At this time I am trying to stay and work on the marriage, also so the business will either take off or give up. At this time, trying to understand my options.

What if kids are not an issue. My youngest is going to college in the fall.

My last kid is going to college in the fall, so no real worries about the house. I would gladly move out to start fresh, just don't want to screw myself in the process.

Like anything, I agree with some things, and not others. I like concepts like "No More Mister Nice Guy", and the general feel of the "Art of Manliness". I think there is great truth in stepping up and taking responsability, physically taking care of yourself, being a leader in all aspects of your life, saying what you want and going for it. Think Teddy Roosevelt. He was a man's man, ruff and rugged, but could also be the perfect gentleman. The guy just oozed testosterone. I Think society has swu…

You are not alone, my friend. I am in the same struggle you are in. Nothing is wrong, just nothing is right. Married a long time, working hard on the marriage the last few years, ironically with all the marriage counseling, I think things are actually worse than ever. Unlike the guy at the bottom, I understand. We had an issue that was my issue the other week. The counsellor even said, she was surprised to find an issue for me and that everything up till now has been my wife's issues. She is try…

I have nothing to hide from my wife. I have no pin, she is free to look at it if she wants. She does not, and I don't look at her's, but there is nothing stopping us. I feel part of being a strong leader, weather at work or home, is trust and transparency. How can she follow my lead, if she does not trust me.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
