"Hey guys I'm totally not being bad faith by pointing out that all my dates refused to pay for half the bill! So it's totally reasonable to have a discussion about how women don't pay their fair share right? Remember it's important to have a productive conversation so you're not allowed to point out the obvious flaw in my only argument!"

Anyone know if this has actually been studied before?

FYI, this is the 4th time I've started a discussion on Reddit about food deserts. The last 3 times the other poster failed to prove they exist. The last one randomly copy and pasted articles/studies to me with the first one contradicting every point you people make. So you think you can actually kill the streak? This should be easy. Show me the best study you have that shows a clear (unambiguous) signal that food deserts are real. Bonus points if you actually read it and quote it effectively.

I'm confused... when did toxic masculinity become "boys are not feminine enough"? At it's inception it was about gender norms expected of men (by men and women). Arguments like this are going to make feminists roll their eyes because that's not how they define toxic masculinity.

The truth is that male advocacy cannot be summed as "men angry at women trying to work for equality". Some things such as the duluth model are something that even male feminists can agree is problematic and the MRM has been complaining about it since it's inception.

I have a feeling it was created just so other feminist subreddits could deflect all questions about male issues to that subreddit and effectively ignore them (for the most part).

I've been a lurker and occasional poster on here for awhile. While I don't like some of the anti-feminist echochamber type posts I don't think I've seen the problems you've mentioned. I've had the opposite experience. A couple times when I was being particularly toxic I was temporarily banned or had comments removed. While I do agree there are some very low effort hot takes being upvoted a little too much I don't think that's the worst issue to have. It's basically inevitable on the internet pre…

Depends on the context. For law? Hell no, trust only the facts. When talking to friends? Of course, no reason to interrogate your friends over some opinions. Online discourse? Also probably no, since the verify part basically never happens.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates30/07/21 02:20 AM

Actually no that's not how it works... Unverified anecdote can easily be worse than nothing. I find it odd to hear MRA people defending anecdotes when it's the entire basis of everything that's wrong with Feminism nowadays.

It may not be a troll post but it could certainly be a huge misunderstanding of causality. For all we know they transitioned just after leaving highschool and formed a bond with a new group of friends that are decent and accepting. Comparing school age bullies to actually supportive friends is a massive misrepresentation of what it means to be a woman in this world. Not to mention that they are narrowly focused on mental health issues rather than the million other ways in which someone could be …

Just calling them like I see em. Not every discussion requires or merits generalizations. There are lots of reasonable discussions to be had about specific situations.

I agree it's inherent. But its still a horrible argument no matter the situation.

You are being far too liberal... with the words "liberalism" and "liberal". Conservatives oppose masks because they are contrarian to science and the left. They are libertarian when it suits their interests and big on government when it that suits their interests. They are not consistent (and neither is the left).
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates22/07/21 04:39 AM
2

Keep in mind that polarized politics is to blame here. America (and probably the rest of the "west") have decided to separate all of politics into two sides. The common people on both sides are basically forced to pick a side and believe the gambit of what we assign to those sides. In reality there is nuance so don't let society determine what you should identify with and stick to your guns.

There is an objective risk to being with someone with enough experience that they have the power to manipulate you. This is generally why we don't allow any child to be with an adult as it is the exaggerated form of this problem. The same issue exists between an 18 year old and say a 40 year old. There is a reason why young porn stars get addicted to drugs at a higher rate than the general population of young adults. My ideal law would have the age gap allowed gradually get bigger as they age be…

I wouldn't really consider existing laws a good argument for the morality of something.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/07/21 10:32 PM

Except that an 18 year old can make those mistakes and be taken advantage by an older person.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/07/21 10:02 PM

Sure but we don't write laws that allow for the best case while letting the worst case continue to exist. I'd rather a law that protects the 80% of 18 year olds that need this protection and that makes the minority have to wait a few years.

Has the definition slowly been changing? It was designed to describe all the different pressures on a man to act in an ideal masculine way. I'm concerned the goal posts are moving into more and more petty things. This thread started talking about emotional abuse in the form of angry nagging and now we're talking about having pillows on the couch. Imho, the situation you described sounds like typical relationship problems. Some people like a pretty house some people like a purely functional one. I'm the same way as you I dislike the need to have everything perfect 24/7 but that doesn't make our partners opinion any less valid. I'm al…

Let's group them into categories: a) hand made party favors, climbing structure, party decorations, scheduled activity b) planting flowers, build garden beds, mulch c) curtains made from scratch, walls repainted yearly, toys made from scratch I'd say of these categories only c is something I'd imagine is considered unnecessary to 99% of the population so I'd say you were just unlucky and married a women with oddly strict requirements for a home. Category b is a pretty standard set of things that…

Well I think we need to be careful because there is some serious mischaracterization going on. This is the typical sort of feminist definition of what emotional labour is: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/may/26/gender-wars-household-chores-comic This is not at all like what is being described in this thread. Specifically the first situation where the husband implicitly expects the wife to do "everything". Imho, a good person (husband, wife, friend) does not sit by while someone is struggl…

I feel like this is a case of the "two sides" of this "debate" talking past each other. There are definitely husbands out their that take advantage of this sort of hands off arrangement to do the bare minimum and their are wives such as those described by the first link. Feminists (like any other person arguing for a cause) will argue with cases that demonstrate their case. They are talking about the first example I mentioned not these naggers. The big problem is that they will claim that naggin…

I'm not a big fan of these generalizations I mean I get the general point but the lack of specifics can make or break these arguments. For all I know you consider it double the work to put away the dishes and wash the counter after dinner. Theoretically every household has the same chores to do. I'm not aware of any chores that women create out of thin air.

Furthermore months ago when a feminist was trying to argue about unpaid labor they brought up a particular study. In the study it contradicted them, sort of. It showed that in all situations except one men did the most overall work. When men worked full time and the woman didn't he still worked enough hours at home that he did more overall. When they both worked he still worked a bit more. Only when she was the only full time either did she end up doing more overall work. And of course that case…

Well to be fair you don't really need an attractive face just a half decent body. Only the women that show their face have issues with being "tarnished". Again I'm not talking about feeding a family of 4 on this income just being able to pay down student debt (like most 20 somethings do while in college). Even if only 30% of college age women "qualify" that's still a hell of an advantage over men.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/06/21 05:17 AM
2

Sure of course but were not talking about all women were talking about whether it's a realistic possibility. Any attractive woman could decide today that they want to make money on their and they could do it. Sure they might not be a instant success but it's also extremely low effort. On the flip side men have to put out resumes, go to job interviews, and actually physically work for hours because that's their only option. Sure if suddenly 10 million more women signed up today the market would b…

You would think the existence of OF kinda shows that's not true. Sure only 10% of Of can "make a living". But part time job levels of payment? The kind that gets kids through college when they are living off student loans? The equivalent man has to work an actual job.

Not even close. The morality of snapping pictures anonymously is in a whole other galaxy compared to dealing drugs (assuming we mean beyond weed).

If men wanted to cater to gay men on OF they can and bank more than women do. Citation needed.

Comparing dealing drugs to snapping pictures anonymously...
/r/PurplePillDebate06/06/21 02:37 AM

I mean it basically isn't. The literally exists no such low risk, low effort jobs for men. So while attractive girls get to snap pictures to get through college men have to work extra hard. Not saying it should be banned but it is a form of privilege that is often overlooked.

I mean people who are rich enough already have those they are called bodyguards. Unless you specifically for sex in which case... That isn't really solving any real problems. Women don't often regret sex they had with an equal. The problems stem from power imbalance such as in a workplace, random encounter with a strong man, etc. Not to mention that any system relying on a second stranger you have to pay is going to result in the poor having no access. And still none of that explains why you dis…

I don't have all the answers but you are the one claiming without evidence that there is no solution besides prisons and that men are biologically violent.

I'm extremely confused what your advocating for. You want to implement fixes but also claim men are unfixable and biologically violent?
/r/PurplePillDebate04/06/21 03:16 PM
2

That something is a universal means it is a biological fact? Yeah you're right I can't prove that. But how is it relevant? It's certainly true in the society in which you live, as borne out by the statistics. That it might be different in the future through eDuCaTiON doesn't change what it is now. It drastically changes how we approach fixing the problem. If men are more violent and there is nothing we can do about it then we either seek eugenics (not killing people just genes manipulation) or w…

/r/PurplePillDebate04/06/21 02:58 PM

Something being "universal" does not mean it's a biological fact. We've also had patriarchal societies for thousands of years across the world. It's not surprising to me that men feel like hunters and kings even nowadays.

Do you have evidence to support your first claim?
/r/PurplePillDebate04/06/21 02:17 PM

Voters don't have the magical power you think they do. Despite 50% of the country wanting liberal policies were left a president that is more of a centrist.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/06/21 02:16 PM
5

This is why I'm in favour of laws that use the difference in age as the criteria. I believe this because the ability to be manipulated is always there but is reduced with experience and age is a good proxy for experience. So I'd be happy if the law let 17 year olds and 19/20 olds to hook up but not 17 and 21+. Like wise I have no issues with a 15 and 17 hooking up. What I don't want is a law that allows an 18 year old and a 40 year old to hook up.

1 in 5 women raped in their lifetime. And about 80% were from relatives. Not sure what the specifics are about fathers, uncles, husbands, etc.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/06/21 02:09 PM
1

I mean there is certainly some truth to the idea that men are getting away with rapes. I think it's like only 20% are convicted. The number must be higher than that and I sympathize with the victims that have to watch their attacker go free. I wish there was a technological solution to the problem. Say an app that could securely record consent for both parties. The problem of course happens when someone doesn't realize it's an option or the heat of moment takes over. You can't just lock up all m…

I had a frustrating conversation with a feminist the other day. I tried to point out how unfortunate it is that prosecuting rape was so difficult but I felt it important to uphold due process. I was then misrepresented as someone who wants rapists to away scott free...

As someone who went through the same experience in a different way the only silver lining is that my feminists friends had the "realization" that men could be victims as well. It's funny how men are lambasted for only caring about women when they have a daughter themselves then this happens.

Meh, that's just something we all like to tell ourselves to make ourselves feel better. In reality someone is arrogant if they overstate their abilities. If you can confidently demonstrate your abilities (especially without having to state them outright) then that's confidence. If you have to boast openly and then fail to live up to your words that's arrogance. Arrogance is unattractive as it's basically lying to the world about who you are. As a man this simply isn't true. I guess if have a relationship where you just barely tolerate the person this might be true. But I date people I would want to be friends with, who I can have a conversation with. Partaking in a book club is not quality time, especially if you don't enjoy it.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/05/21 02:37 AM

True but were lacking context. Everything should be relatively equal. Physical labour, emotional labour, etc. Raising children is not easy but ya if they are old enough for school and the stay at home parent doesn't work at all then yes they will have a pretty easy go at things.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/05/21 02:33 PM

Were talking without context. Of course if someone works 40 hours a week it would be reasonable to ask the other to do chores most of the time.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/05/21 02:32 PM

Who goes to work 40 hours a week and thinks that shit is fun? It's exactly the same thing...
/r/PurplePillDebate20/05/21 04:21 AM

Is it not fair, if you appreciate it when your husband draws up a bath for you, that your husband can appreciate it when you cook for him? Still not equivalent... drawing a bath is trivial in comparison to cooking. I would say the only fair equivalent would be a stay at home partner cooking and cleaning while the other works for 8 hours.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/05/21 04:16 AM

No you don't... Almost nothing you've mentioned can compare to 14 hours of chores every week. At best the only reasonable thing you say would be that a woman receiving all these gifts should do maybe 2-3 extra hours of work per week. Ultimately, every couple should come up with a equal plan to do chores. And it's not as simple as you make it out to be.

I am very much aware of that but this guy went to a private resort and was setup with a woman by an acquaintance. Defending those actions is not something a public figure should do and not expect backlash.

Honestly I don't really have that much sympathy. You can't make such controversial statements as a public person and expect immunity we should expect people in charge of incredibly important public projects to be held to a high standard. Even autism does not make someone immune, I don't understand that line of reasoning. If this person is well minded enough to run a major public project then certainly his opinions are not clouded by mental illness.

Ah now there are qualifications. It's not simply "no sex" it's "no sex, and they don't try to change anything". I'd still challenge that. Diseases like depression are not something you simply "work through". You need support from your partner (you know, that person who chose to commit to you for better or worse).

It's the word decide I have a problem with. No one decides not to have sex. They don't want to have sex because they don't feel like having sex. A drop in libido can be a symptom of something out of their control.

Source then? Because I don't think I've ever heard of it as a problem.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/03/21 06:22 AM

My personal theory is that DBR mostly starts as something 100% unintentional such as stress but slowly becomes a wedge in the relationship to the point where it is also a major source of stress. It certainly doesn't help women to hear that they could be dumped at any moment because their husband must have sex.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/03/21 06:02 AM

Appeal to the remote 0.001% as some sort of real comparison to what women face? Yikes...

16

Or, crazy idea, libido is not as simple as that?
/r/PurplePillDebate04/03/21 05:55 AM

That's the point. Only people who are able to (attractive and female) and need to (poor) do it. Many poor men would sell their bodies in a heart beat if it meant stemming poverty.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/02/21 08:39 PM
25

If anything it speaks to western society still not being good enough for people to be free and happy. I'm sure there are lots of women that sell their bodies not because they are lazy but because they are poor and it's the only choice left for them that doesn't involve working themselves half to death to make less money. Meh, let's not stoop to their level. This reeks of oversimplification and hatred. At worst, some feminists are misandrist and will rationalize their beliefs through a feminist lens, using feminist theory even. At best feminism is simply different words for the same things we believe, traditional gender roles are harmful to all. Just because they call it a patriarchy doesn't mean they are misandrist.

The article asks why there isn't a #MeToo for men. I think the answer is pretty clear, it's combination of cultural pressure and the fact that the majority of situations where sexual harassment could happen is between a subordinate woman and a man in a higher position. I guarantee you as society starts to fight traditional gender roles and women start to make up a larger and larger percentage of managers and leaders we will find that sexual harassment on men will also increase. It really doesn't…

Worse yet is the mentality that since the soldiers, cops, and politicians are all men it's just male on male violence or oppression so it's not that big of deal. Once traditional gender roles are toppled it's going to be men and women oppressing men but by then it will be too late to save the millions of lives harmed while ignoring our plight.

I agree you don't owe anyone a friendship but it is usually a bad sign when your friendship is suddenly over. From your explanation it sounds like you simply needed some time to process and somehow made it sound like you were ghosting them. Consider it from their perspective, you were good friends then all of a sudden you have feelings then you break off the relationship altogether. They obviously took great offense to this. Sounds like a big misunderstanding.

I see the double standard but I'm also worried your anecdote is missing some much needed context. How long were you friends before you told her? What was her given reason for not wanting to date? Friendships by definition shouldn't be so easy to walk away from. Also, it seems like there was a miscommunication of expectations. Were you intentionally friends with h…

I'm not sure I buy this. The man in OPs link had no opportunity to "prove himself" to avoid being assaulted. At best he could fight back but that's not freedom it's the choice of violence thrust upon him. The real problem is that due to gender norms it's expected that it's "not that bad" to assault a man in broad daylight. That tough guy wouldn't dare do that to a woman but he's "allowed" to do it to men. Problem is that I don't see a solution besides gradually teaching people that violence isn'…

I don't think feminists are trying to speak out to womanizers. They intentionally speak to women or other "oppressed" classes so that they can use that knowledge to stand up for themselves, advocate for better treatment, etc. That's also why the messaging is so aggressive. When your platform is about warning your "side" of the power and pervasiveness of the oppressor it would be counter productive to soften the message with "but there are lots of great men out there". That being said, the target…

I think it really boils down to marketing. The feminists who crafted this term couldn't care less about the effects it has on how society thinks about masculinity. If there term were labelled something like "feminine aversion" or "toxic stoicism" or really anything more specific and less inflammatory then I don't think there would be any issues at all. I'd also be curious about the last point in their argument. What percentage of money spent on cosmetic surgery came from a woman's salary? Sure but that's just deflecting the point. No one is expecting a no effort parent to get custody. It's a non starter. To bring it up is to attempt to delegitimize the real problems single fathers face. It's like if people talking about rape I say "My heart goes out to the victims but did you know that staying home instead of going out to a club reduces your chances of being raped by 14%!?" Things can still be technically true but also be harmful to the discussion.

Agreed, although I do kinda agree with spousal support even though I'm paying it at the moment. There are women who get stuck being the child caregiver and get no time to do anything else. They deserve to have their income continue to be subsidized by the father until some reasonable amount of time. Unfortunately, my ex was abusive and never seriously seeked out higher education or a job/career for the 5 years I supported her. I disagree, her concerns might be taken a bit more neutral if they didn't center on things such as how she believes trans people are transitioning as some sort of fad or craze. It's one thing to criticize it's a whole other thing to delegitimize an entire identity.

How is inclusivity not a good thing? Why would actively seek to exclude half the planet with our language? If you are aware of an issue refusing to fix it is rude. I really dislike the general free speech argument to defend any and all language. Language throughout history has always been in flux. I see no reason to cement ourselves to these words simply because it's what feminists want. That reeks of callous and vindictive reasons.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/12/20 09:39 PM

I disagree. I think that's the old way of thinking but this generation is challenging all the conventional ways we think about relationships. No one wants a severely depressed person for an SO and that's the extreme you're describing. Also I'd argue women (hell, people) care more about feeling like your trying to fix yourself rather than some nebulous idea of "being protected". If you're open about your depression but do nothing to try and fix it of course your SO is going to hate that.

That is a quite a level of ignorance coming from someone making claims about elections. Elections are very rarely "the most votes wins". In Canada it's the most "ridings" wins. Honestly, I think it's because there has been a very successful disinformation campaign that has conflated mens rights with the Alt Right and other very bad conservative ideologies. Exactly, related to this is the statistic about sexual harassment. I've often heard like "1/3 women will experience sexual harassment in their life. Which sounds shocking until you compare it to a similar statistic like "9/10 people will get robbed in their lifetime". The problem is that most people have this concept in their head that if sexual harassment is ubiquitous then men who sexually harass are too.

I think it's relevant but it is often used to discredit male victim statistics. For example if gay men were most of the domestic abuse you bet your ass feminists would be very heavy to discredit male victims of domestic violence. It's relevant because it's an indicator of a different kind of struggle men face. Similar to how black men are the majority of crimes and how it indicates that they face pressure to act a certain way and are influenced by poverty. I imagine there is connection between t…

Right, this is my personal theory for why we see both these numbers. Men are taught by society that they are valued as the gender that does the hard stuff, that "gets it done" at the cost of their own life in some cases. It makes sense that they would also be the gender that commits most of the crime as it fits the profile of someone who is "assertive". Hell, I'm a man and I am very much a pacifist but I still have this innate urge to be a hero.

That's an utterly disturbing statistic...
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates04/10/20 02:33 AM

But that's not the point... You have to compare apples to apples. Women to men. You can't take the average statistic of "single parents suck" to mean "single mothers suck".
/r/PurplePillDebate23/09/20 05:48 AM

Careful though you may have read that somewhere but it's likely that the source has a more nuanced answer. Unless your reading the original study or doing some comparisons you're likely to miss details such as single father homes having the same stats.

Seems like a false equivalence. If women can trick men then men can trick women. Perhaps there are different cultural reasons behind it but it can and will happen to both. Keep in mind that there are still a decent number of men who will expect the mother to be a full time mother even if they say otherwise.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/09/20 05:22 AM

As far as I'm aware those stats are the same for all single parent house holds. So it's not the gender as much as it's having only 1 person to help raise a child. I'd also be curious to see how familial support plays into these numbers as well.

I think your reading to much into the specific words here. I seek a best friend with benefits, someone who I can build a life with. I guess the fundamental divide is that feminists will ask men to act in a way they feel is good for a relationship. However, I imagine that 90% or more of women do not necessarily subscribe to their line of thinking. But I have no idea, I haven't had difficulty in dating (I have success without trying that hard) so I can't even speak anecdotally. But in most of these conversations I see about dating I very rarely see studies I just see a lot of "That's just how it is". Another possibility is tha…

It can be but connecting the gender of a the figure head of a country with it's ability to combat the worst epidemic in modern society is not science. Nearly infinite variables to account for. I think there is pressure from everyone. Peers, parents, potential partners, etc. and it's become a norm so now advertisement and media emphasizes it as well. Sexual selection is just one facet of this. If we solved that part there would still be a world full of other expectations.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/07/20 07:02 PM

Seems like a stretch to say disposability is tied to sexual selection. Men aren't drafted because women have power in the sexual marketplace. They are drafted because someone had to be and traditionally women were excluded as they are considered fragile or in need of protection. Men work dangerous jobs for money because again someone has to and society encourages me to self sacrifice for their family. Men are expected to be heros or take on flights instead of desecalation because they are expect…

Possibly semantic but people think very highly of heroic self sacrificing men. In some spaces you'll be more popular and by extension more powerful. That's more than a simple semantic difference. It doesn't make it right but it seems pretty disingenuous to say men have "no value". Feminists say the same thing about women.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/07/20 03:21 AM
1

I think it goes much deeper. Men don't have no value they have value as soldiers. After all soldiers have to actually be effective. They are disposable though simply because women are protected. This is bad for everyone because it means assertive women and passive men are belittled.

I'm not going to individually respond to those points but generally I agree any gendered laws or societal expectations should be abolished. The only thing that truly matters is hard biological realities such as those pertaining to reproduction and the rest is choice. I'd encourage you to care less about being against feminism and focus more on goals. I think this is a perfect example where everyone wants the same thing. How do you create a world where men can cry without being devalued? Well gender roles is the framework that causes is to assign value to people based on how they fit these roles. So lets abolish that. Odd though that you made the argument that testosterone causes us not to cry, as far as I know that is a highly unscientific belief. Abolishing…

It's sad to me that your being downvoted as this seems like a very reasonable sentiment. Men experience a lot of suffering due to being forced to suit their gender roles. How can we level the playing field? Encouraging everyone to think outside the narrow confines of traditional gender roles seems like the perfect fit. Don't want men to be disposable? Great, that requires us to sometimes be vulnerable and not heroic. Some people call that feminine, but it's just a different way of being.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates18/07/20 03:34 PM

But you did say that women simply need to suck it up even though they experience far worse harassment.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/07/20 02:51 AM

Honestly I have no idea, the definition I can find is the same as that and it would indicate that you are technically correct. I don't think anyone uses it that way though similar to how being shoved is technically assault but no one calls it that because it's such a minor event. So sure, you're a victim of sexual harassment congratulations. Women have it easy it happens to men too!
/r/PurplePillDebate14/07/20 01:08 AM

Oh I see I misread your sentence. Still I don't think your original examples count. It's not "of sexual nature" it has to do with context. In my examples there are actions being implied. Calling someone a virgin is just an insult not the implication of action being made upon them. If a man told me they wanted to "rape my pretty little face" then yes that would sexual harassment. But after being online for most of my life I've had that happen less than 10 times and many were the sort of batter I'…

Not that's just harassment using sex related jokes. Sexual harassment is sending dick pics or saying "I want to fuck you raw". The difference is that if someone called me a virgin I might be upset but I don't feel threatened. While a woman getting unwanted attention may feel threatened and objectified. I need you to elaborate though because your argument isn't particularly compelling. Why would "consent" when taught as part of standard sexual education classes suddenly only be taught in the way you describe? This isn't a slipperly slope it's a critical part of teaching kids what is and isn't considered consent. No need to get all fear mongering before there is any evidence that it will go down like that.

True but he also generalized and said women find online spaces toxic. They find it toxic because when their gender is discovered they are harassed not because they can't take a few random insults or jokes.

Relevancy isn't defined as something tangentially related to something else not sure why you'd feel that's the case. Abortion law affects men because they want to be considered when a women chooses to abort a fetus? I don't see that as "significant" in the slightest. Significant is carrying around a fetus for 9 months with all the discomfort that comes with. Significant is being forced to keep a fetus when your raped. Were just arguing semantics now. But I don't think that's a useful definition. By the same logic one would question why you a "male advocate" if everything you do affects women as well?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates07/07/20 10:05 PM
1

That's not what I said at all. OP was complaining about "gendered politics" which is silly because as you demonstrated many aspects of politics are gender specific. Some are only relevant to males some are only relevant to females that's the definition of "gendered".
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates07/07/20 07:38 PM
1

I never said these things are irrelevant I said they are inherently gendered. I believe all those things are important but they are all gendered issues. I do after in general though, women should not be getting all the spotlight in politics.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates07/07/20 02:32 PM
1

Agreed however that's not about reproductive rights it's about praterity and I agree is extremely important. It's actually another example of gendered politics, women already have immense power so men need to be there focus.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates07/07/20 02:30 PM
-1

The first and third is not reproductive rights, the second is not debateble, and yes the last one is relevant and you'll get no disagreement from me to fix that. Point still stands that reality is gendered and so we should expect politics is as well.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates07/07/20 03:39 AM
-2

Imho, "politics" can and should always be contextual. For example, there is very little need to fight for male reproductive rights because their role in reproduction is minimal. And in some cases there are cultural artifacts that need specific political pressure such as eliminating the draft. Do I think things like domestic violence should be "gendered"? Hell no. I guess if you call that "sexual identity politics" then I can agree but that phrase feels more like a dogwhistle for transphobia.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates06/07/20 11:30 PM
1

Do you have any actual proof of that claim because I've yet to see any. After asking about this in several threads this is the first time anyone said anything of substance. How is the language gendered? What does it say exactly? What are the implications? I highly doubt it says "women get support, men don't". So you're going to have to do better than "It has gendered language".

That analogy does not hold up. It would be like if they were drafting a bill about cancer research and only invited breast cancer survivors. You'll still got a lot of valuable feedback and the bill will still contain a lot of the important things survivors need but it might lack some nuances that come with a different perspective. Unless the bill is specifically prejudice against men I don't care that much. There is more to public policy than just a bill. How that bill is implemented through fun…

Well now unfortunately my choices are either except the premise of your post at face value or watch an hour long video to find out what the hell your talking about. Not good choices. You should aim to be clear about what cause your supporting. An ambiguous "feminists are bias! men need support too!" is not helping anyone. Sigh, I guess I'll do your work for you and summarize your video for you.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates06/07/20 05:41 PM

Certainly I could do that but you posted this. If you can't even offer one reason why you specifically oppose this bill I question your motives and commitment.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates06/07/20 05:06 PM

I care a lot more about what the bill says than who's invited to the hearing. Unless the bill is biased and male survivors are not given the opportunity to plead their case to fix it. However, no one has actually said what is wrong with the bill. I'd say let them have their PC publicity as long as the bill will support men as well.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates06/07/20 05:05 PM

I find it concerning that you still can't provide any concrete points of contention. What does the bill specify that you specifically disagree with?

I don't mean to be rude but you heavily implied this. You started with "Not a fan of the Rock analogy." then followed with "I can't empathize with it in a scenario where I'm being significantly violated." Seems odd that your argument is "I personally don't know" rather than "My experience tells me that your analogy is faulty and therefore unrecognizable as a valid description of reality". You heavily implied the latter.

I totally agree with equal representation in important matters such as these but I've seen some fear mongering going on with regards to this issue. I took a look at both that thread and the article (and nothing else). I'm having trouble understanding. It all seems so vague. At no point did the article mention any specifics. What does the bill do exactly and what exact things do feminists disagree with? Without answering the specifics I can't support your cause as I have no idea what I'm supporting.

"knew she shouldn't" isn't really a thing. Either someone is confident it's a bad idea or they are not. It's 2020, even monogamy is being questioned. If you require something of someone then state it. Here is an analogy: You make a new friend recently and you invite them a concert. They decline. No you simply aren't good enough friends yet that they would base their schedule around you, or any other myr…

Each partner will give in different ways at different frequencies. Also your partners will appreciate different things more or less than your exs. Sounds like we may only disagree on semantics. /r/PurplePillDebate23/06/20 02:59 AM

If I could see the entirety of my partner's past I shouldn't be able to find a person she treated better than me in any aspect. /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates05/06/20 05:40 PM

Imho, that's not correct. I've seen plenty of Feminists on Reddit defend porn and sex work. There is simply disagreement about how to protect these women. Some thing it's better to outlaw sex work others think it needs to be decriminalized.

I disagree that it's about rights. I see it more as the "oppression olympics". It's the concept that to be oppressed is to be justified in your actions. I've had people tell me it's okay to assault men when they do something "bad" because it's justified due to men normally being the "aggressor". By labeling all men as having privilege it's enabling women to create "power" that allows them to avoid criticism, take more than their fair share, and advocate for special privileges. Sounds like you legitimately don't understand. I think what OP is getting at is that while it would be immoral to allow fathers to "legally stop an abortion" if they want the child it should be fair to allow fathers to "give up" their rights and responsibilities to the child, including child support. This is called "financial abortion". So yes, split custody should be the default I agree. But presently laws are unfair to fathers in that they have no say in whether a child is theirs or not. While…

Sounds like you're trying to assign blame to him which I don't like. I mean yes, ANYONE should aim to become independent and get the help they need but is it the depressed persons fault for not taking the effort to seek professional help? I'm not blaming you either, I know first hand how hard it is as I was in nearly the exact same situation except she was emotionally abusive, manipulative and generally unhelpful in almost every way. If anything I might blame our country for making it so hard fo…

Whining and “breaking down” to the point that I worry he won’t be able to fulfill his responsibilities to the family, no thank you. Please if you're really a wife reconsider this. If your husband "breaks down" it's not because he's weak it's because he's hurting. You are probably the only person he feels comfortable doing that in-front of.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/06/20 11:45 PM

Agreed. If you can't kindly ask your partner to spend a reasonable amount of money on luxury (non-essential) items than that's a relationship problem not a female problem. That being said I don't think OP meant "all" relationships but that it's the societal expectation that men are the breadwinners and women get to benefit by getting "stuff".
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates01/06/20 11:39 PM

According to wikipedia that doesn't appear to be true but of course it might be wrong. Do you have a source?

You can read about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_tax I don't think I've ever seen a convincing argument besides some toys that are "pink" being priced more. Which isn't particularly surprising because that's how marketing works, you target a minority group and inflate the price since the demand is high. It's not sexism it's just how it works.

I'll show you an example of a recent post where I "overcame" the downvote storm and still contributed something reasonable to the discussion: https://www.reddit.com/r/YouShouldKnow/comments/gftyw9/ysk_if_you_think_women_should_do_all_the_cooking/fpw2y4j/?context=3 At first I was depressed by these downvotes but ultimately they just represent bias of the subreddit. There are still people that read further down.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/05/20 08:43 PM

This exactly. Try very hard to remain calm and collected. They are just the "hive-mind" downvoting like sheep so I wouldn't take the downvotes as anything "serious". Try your best to argue in good faith without defensive or harmful language and you'll achieve your basic goal of educating people. People like me generally read the highly downvoted posts both because they are sometimes entertaining and sometimes they are good but controversial opinions.

"not unclearly" so clearly? I don't think they are that related. The second is a true fallacy to me. You are only right if the evidence for your position is well founded. People hating your idea is not good evidence for anything except that your idea is unpopular. The other fallacy you mentioned is about compromises which is totally different
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/05/20 04:16 PM

I don't like comparisons unless the difference is significant. I don't think homemaking with kids is significantly easier than the average job. Easier than exhausting physical labor? Yes of course. Easier than an office job? No it's probably about the same.

Meh, that "fallacy" seems like a strawman. Of course there is no "in between" for "no or all abortions" at least not when phrased like that. I believe that 90% of issues have a compromise position. A position where both sides have got some things right and some things wrong. It might be a more 60/40 split rather than 50/50 but it's very rarely one or the other extreme. Hell, half of what subreddits such as this advocate for are the same things feminists do. They just also decide to swing more to…

It's because it's easier to lump everything that opposes you into one bucket and call them all "bad" rather than actually confronting the segment of your opposition that is reasonable. Imho, this subreddit is also guilty of this so it's not like it's a unique problem from the "woke crowd".
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/05/20 05:37 AM
2

Certainly agree with that except again I've never heard anyone say "existing around MEN is emotional labor". Sounds like you agree that emotional labor is a real thing which is basically the point of my concern with some of the comments in this thread.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/05/20 07:17 PM
0

Oh possibly. I thought I've heard them intertwined though possibly as synonyms. I'm just concerned at the leap your taking. Unless you know otherwise, I've never seen someone directly claim that "Talking to your wife about your feelings causes her emotional labour". But yet your making that claim simply by extending other statements. Imho, that's disingenuous and only leads to further polarization of these topics.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/05/20 04:37 PM

Ooof side stepping all the meat of my post to argue about more definitions. I guess I'm done here you're clearly not interested in a debate about ideas.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/05/20 04:34 PM
-1

I mean it's not really an argument because I could say the exact same thing to you, that your stuck in an echo chamber as well. The difference is I'm not pretending like women have it easy in the situations referred to here. Perhaps we can agree the term has lost meaning then. But do you agree that there exist women who take on the labour described in my post?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/05/20 04:04 PM
-3

Imho, that's highly disingenuous. Let's not play their game. I've only seen emotional labour targeted at families where the man didn't understand that staying at home with kids is harder than it looks. It is more complicated than either you or "they" let on though. I'm not going to sit here and say being a stay at home parent is harder or the same amount of labour as working in say a factory. But many people feel it's at least comparable simply because it's a different type of labour that is har…

Imho, you're statement about emotional labour is incorrect. That's not to say that some people might mislabel it that way but anyone that calls listening to your spouse when they need emotional support "emotional labour" must certainly be biased or a sociopath. Let's not play their game and pretend like women are all sociopaths. They are affected by the societal norms as us. If they don't see it then try to have an earnest but non-confrontational conversion about it.

I mean the fact that you think there doesn't exist a single example means that you are already too far gone. Any generalization like that is pointless. Imho, these statements are just as unhelpful as the things people on this subreddit complain about. The fact is you cannot simply compare apples and oranges. Men and women each have enough "disadvantages" that each deserves commitment to address. There is no point in declaring a winner or loser it just leads to needless fighting. Don't give into the oppression olympics.

The fact that 1 guy can have sex with 10 women much easier than 10 guys and 1 girl in a monogamous manner I'm not sure I understand this part exactly. Can you elaborate?
/r/PurplePillDebate27/04/20 03:51 PM

Right and also "do better" is kinda fuzzy as well. A smaller dating pool is not necessarily a bad thing, after all it's not exactly a zero sum game.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/04/20 02:22 PM
1

Interesting. I'm kinda new to these terms but while it's undeniable that taller men have a larger dating pool why is that so significant? I guess height is basically impossible to change so that's part of it. But does a man that is 5'8 or 5'6 really have that restricted of a dating pool? Does it really matter when it comes to marriage or long term relationships? Doesn't other factors such as wealth or personality reduce the effect of height?
/r/PurplePillDebate27/04/20 06:02 AM

Not sure why your inclined to make assumptions. It's as if you don't believe that being emotionally triggered is real. I'm not saying I have all the answers but these counselors are justified in their actions
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/02/20 04:55 PM
1

Agreed that complicates things but I don't think the answer is "screw it everyone should just deal with it!". There is always going to be edge cases when dealing with emotional trauma. Solo 1:1 counseling is always an option, although an expensive one is some places.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/02/20 03:23 PM
1

This isn't simply walking by someone this is pouring your heart out about the most vulnerable you've felt. You want someone who is seeking support to feel as comfortable as reasonable possible. I agree there must be some serious complications for homosexuals but I don't really see any solutions to that besides encouraging solo counseling.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/02/20 12:01 AM
1

I think that is valid for a different reason. No one wants to be surrounded by things that remind them of their trauma. The real problem is that these groups or resources aren't provided for men as well.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates27/02/20 08:02 PM

My point isn't about percentage it's about different experiences. A male breast cancer patient has practically the same experience as any other male cancer patient. While a women had a distinctly different experience simply because breasts are different culturally and physically for women.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates27/02/20 05:03 PM

Isn't that kinda reasonable? Like they are going to be talking about losing breasts and the humiliation of the tests where as his experiences aren't really comparable? I'd imagine there are groups that deal with cancer in general...

I mean you see the same problem when you go to any subreddit about attractive women.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/02/20 05:23 AM

It's interesting though that in the West, it is commonly legal for women to receive them, even though it's usually illegal for men. Not trying to be a asshole but I've literally never heard of this do you have some links or something I can about this?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates29/01/20 12:45 AM
2

But that impossible to achieve across the board. Each family operates differently. The solution has to involve reasonable legal protections for vulnerable parties and reasonable expectations for all. For example it's not fair that a bread winner does 50% of the emotional labor and 100% of the traditional labor. I'm not sure if there is much of a legal solution to the second part. Seems like it has to be done culturally or socially
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates24/01/20 10:57 PM

I'd wager the main reason is because it's a lot of work and no one would have a family if it meant working 8-10 hour days while doing all the emotional labour as well. I'd be curious to see the research with regards to families where both parents work roughly equal hours. I've seen many stories where parents claim emotional labour is equally distributed in these situations. I wish more feminists would argue in good faith from the perspective of how emotional labour is fair or equal with regards …
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates24/01/20 09:52 PM
2

Sure but what's the alternative? That problem exists as long as any one partner works and the other doesn't. It also exists if one partner makes substantially more. It's still not unpaid labour is just labour without as much of a safety net. But also there are many protections for these cases. Women in divorce situations get lot of support and benefits.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates24/01/20 09:48 PM

Just be aware that not everyone thinks the way you do. I've gotten in trouble for both making a decision and asking for too much advice. I think like everything in life the moderate approach is the most sensible. Try to understand your partner's needs and how comfortable you are with fulfilling them. For example, I hate taking charge on decisions and so does my girlfriend. So usually we take turns but I'm still bad at it often. It's actually become a diffusion of responsibility in many cases or …

I said something exactly like this to vincetbriatore. We don't have covered numbers on the grey area. It could be that most of the grey area is actually unproven rape or that most is false accusations. We simply don't know without some really good studies. What we do know is that it's like 35% conviction rate. So again you really think the 1000 to 1 statement was even remotely true?
/r/MensRights24/09/18 11:02 PM
2

So rather than accept the real amount is closer to 5% we are going to argue about completely hypothetical things. Worse yet two commentors above me get to pretend like it's 1000 to 1 or 90% false accusations while I get downvoted for pointing this out.
/r/MensRights24/09/18 08:42 PM
1

I don't agree, false accusation means the accusation is false not the conviction.
/r/MensRights24/09/18 02:59 PM
1

Your missing the grey area between guilty and false allegation. Unproven doesn't automatically mean someone lied.
/r/MensRights24/09/18 02:45 PM
0

So every time a man loses a sexual harrasment case in court or is ignored by police he is lying? Do you see how bad that logic is? Look, I agree the number is something higher than 5% but within that get area are also legitimate rapes that lacked evidence. Not to mention some there is a backlog of rapekits in America the legit number could easily be much higher.
/r/MensRights24/09/18 02:29 PM
1

That is some conspiracy level thinking. There have been many studies on this. I've seen no back lash. Defending unfounded exaggerations with the idea that people are afraid to do a bit of statistical analysis is quite paranoid and ignorant imho.

/r/MensRights22/09/18 07:59 PM

The police investigated and said it was consensual. But were talking about a statistic and you're bringing up an article? You need better proof then an old article. You need a peer review study at a minimum.
/r/MensRights22/09/18 07:48 PM

You're the one making the claim. If every time someone questions your statements of "fact" is to ask them to Google it then you might want to consider whether they are facts or if you're being a tad biased. It shouldn't be that hard to defend your position.
/r/MensRights22/09/18 07:03 PM

Stats show that most daughters raped by boys and their parents report it to the police, find out that the sex was actually consensual and the parents just would not believe that their innocent lovely would succumb to carnal pleasure. I would to see that statistic.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen but what are the statistics? Is it 90% killed by mothers in the first week or it is more like 10%? Sounds like the worst part isn't that there was a mistake it's that the punishment is so severe and it isn't retracted when a mistake was made. I also think the MeToo is misplaced, perhaps the OPs quote is illogical as well but the MeToo movement is harming people based on hearsay not evidence. I would only really ever be in favor of punishing people with at least some decent evidence.
/r/MensRights21/09/18 01:38 PM

I get the generally sentiment of the quote but is that really a good moral philosophy? Couldn't an innocent man be absolved of the crime after some time but the guilty men might continue to cause harm to society in the meantime? Wouldn't it be better to simply treat all criminals with respect and try to fill in the gaps where there lacks evidence? Sexual assault is a particularly difficult thing to deal with in law since most of the time there probably isn't that much hard evidence to work on. I…

Getting knocked up is not an accomplishment, in fact it is more often an utter failure. Wide generalizations about all parents calling them failures. I'm pretty sure that counts as "tearing down". Not to mention calling single mothers extra failures. I get it, feminism is hurting us in ways but what you're doing is childish. You're only hurting the reputation of the movement and this subreddit more by comments like this. If that's okay with you then carry on.

That your basing this on some absolutely useless analysis.
/r/MensRights08/09/18 03:02 AM

It sounds like you're referring to that other article posted. As I mentioned there it's an entirely over simplistic view. They only looked at occurrences of "slut" and "whore" in tweets. And didn't disclose how they tried to analyze context. So basically it's a useless analysis.
/r/MensRights07/09/18 10:31 PM
11

C'mon now after reading the first paragraph you can easily see how this is a terrible analysis. They only look at two words "slut" and "whore". They mention some algorithm to detect if they were used in spite rather than "conversationally" but there are no details about false negatives/positives nor are there any examples for us to make comparisons. Given how often women complain on twitter this could easily just be picking up those tweets.
/r/MensRights07/09/18 05:58 PM

I should have also qualified that with large productions. I think it would be acceptable if Anthony Bourdain did something wrong that his show would be removed but his girlfriend?
/r/MensRights02/09/18 02:36 AM

Agreed. It would be acceptable if they are the producer and lead "actor" in say a documentary or comedy show but as a secondary character?

The US is huge and has some pretty incredible social problems. Doesn't seem like a fair comparison. Compare it to other countries it's size with similar histories. Not to mention that life expectancy isn't everything.

We'll biology influences culture and people hate change so cultural ideas can stick around for a long time even as we equalize society.
/r/MensRights31/08/18 08:00 PM

And that may prove to be true but I certain have never seen the evidence for that. Do you have reliable statistics from non-western countries to do some analysis? Hell, even that could be flawed since many countries have had significant western influence.
/r/MensRights31/08/18 05:57 PM

But freedom to choose isn't exactly accurate. Egalitarian society's can still be affected by cultural bias. I for one don't want politicians to only people who want those positions. I think leaders of our society such and scientists, business men, engineer/inventors, etc should be a big part of politics. As it stands right now we have career politicians instead. I have a feeling that when politics is more about the needs of the society rather than just a career we will find diversity happens as …

Any reasonable person hopefully understands that one election with 50% women isn't suddenly going to fix all our "problems". Without years of studying various countries (not just third world countries) with varying amounts of diversity I don't see how anyone can make a factual claim.
/r/MensRights31/08/18 01:58 PM

Women do not make the life choices, take the risks, etc, I don't really think there is enough evidence for this yet. Culture plays a huge part in this and so these kinds of statistics are likely to change over time.
/r/MensRights31/08/18 01:24 PM

Listen this is just as silly and pointless as anything the far-left says. Those countries were fucked long before anyone had a chance to do anything about it. Imperialism has been pretty horrible to a lot of people.

Just goes to show the state of the subreddit when you can say "shitting out kids" and get the upvotes. C'mon guys this isn't hard. What you're basically proposing is that women be afforded no help even though they are literally the only members of our species capable of having children.

Sure, and at worst maybe these people are naive and subject to corruption. I'm not saying pure socialism is a smart idea but to conflate the crazy things the radical left does with "socialism" is incredibly divisive and unhelpful.

I also wonder how those statistics relate to the gender of child. I wonder if this explains why men commit more crimes than women since fathers are not respected as much (and are out of the picture as a result).

I agree and it saddens me that people downvoted you and upvoted this article. That was her second argument and it's just downright naive. If I recall correctly, statistics show that most sexual assault happens between family members and close friends not strangers. I think one silver lining is that when this was posted in the feminist subreddit yesterday they unanimously agreed that this is a problem. Several said they lost respect for those that voiced support for the professor.
/r/MensRights15/08/18 11:39 PM

There are shitty people out there but if you think a respectable feminist condones this then you're part of the problem. Politics and public discourse is so fucked right now because people like you think your opposition are all crazy.

Listen, people like you are abusing this tragedies for all the wrong reasons. Feminism didn't cause this anymore than MRAs don't cause mass shootings or whatever bullshit the far-left thinks. Don't be like them, this is an issue only in so far that women are always believed to be innocent that's all but that belief doesn't cause this.

Perhaps but SJW types are generally pretty left and that entire subculture is pushing very anti-men agendas. Maybe it's not "the left" but it's also mainly coming from their crowd. I say this as a left-center type.
/r/MensRights25/07/18 01:14 AM

I mean the root cause of all behaviour is your environment, society, parents, genes, etc. It's not helpful to try and stop the argument at "it's their responsibility to not be terrible". I think it's societies responsibility to find way to make it so bad people become rarer to find.

/r/MensRights25/07/18 12:31 AM

The problem is that there is some intersection between the two. I blame the left for pushing away healthy discussion to the point where mens rights is taboo.

But we still have to make up for all the oppression in the past so maybe lets make 3x as many books?

Serious question, say we all agreed to give up complaining about these people trying to undo historically bad things and we just accept them 100%. At what point have we made up for history? For each play put on that excluded women should we have one all female cast to balance it out? Then we call it a day and go back to a free-for-all of talent? How about we stop with all that silliness and just create awesome things without worrying about "diversity"?

My guess would be like all things terrible people co-op them for their own purposes. I've never heard anyone saying "Boys will be boys" but I can totally see a terrible person using that as a scapegoat. It's just funny that these feminists stereotype men this way.
/r/MensRights19/07/18 03:55 AM

Everytime I argue this with a feminist they say that everywhere is already a safe space for a man. It's like they have no idea they are being sexist.

"AS LONG AS A WOMAN DOESN'T GET IGNORED, HURT, UNNECESSARILY DEVALUED, OR USED, I'M CONDITIONED TO FEEL LIKE THAT'S A WIN." Wow, I imagine lots of women were hurt in that movie. Hell, they literally show a screencap where one is being stabbed.

I'm really only interested in the facts here not your assumptions. I also think you misrepresent the topless argument. It's not just about dressing differently it's about desexualizing breasts which I think it's probably not a bad idea since breast feeding is a thing.
/r/MensRights17/06/18 05:31 AM

I really don't get the argument they are trying to make. I imagine a private institution is legally allowed to mandate some reasonable dress code. So what, they want to remove that law? Punish institutions that enforce a dress code? Anyone have the story on this and her motives?
/r/MensRights17/06/18 02:19 AM

My point is that's a gross exaggeration and as I said it's extremely illogical. So answer me point blank, do you believe men do the same things? Or are you going to talk around in circles avoiding your mistake?
/r/MensRights16/06/18 04:41 AM

I have never met a single man, even the psychos, that react the way the average woman reacts when her advances are rejected Okay so technically you didn't say terrible. But you literally used the word never. Also to be fair you were stating it is an observation. However, that's only be technicality. You honestly expect me to believe your intention was to say "I've never seen a bad man but who knows maybe they exist". No I very much doubt that, you spun a narrative just like I said.
/r/MensRights16/06/18 03:20 AM

Sure, define "generally true". And then prove your original statement that women are terrible but not men is general true.
/r/MensRights16/06/18 12:18 AM

Your serious aren't you? So you think it's logical to say "all of these billion people are terrible because the 5 i encountered were terrible"? Why do I even have to explain something this simple to anyone on this subreddit is beyond me.

This sub is going downhill fast. Really someone makes a generalization using anecdotes and gets upvoted while being called out merits downvotes? How about we stop with this petty shit and be a movement that has integrity. I'm sorry you had to go through that, my ex was abusive, it sucks. I guess I'm referring to an ideal world where men have proper birth control and mandatory child support is abolished. I'm having a hard time constructing more of a counter argument :)
/r/MensRights12/06/18 03:57 AM

Agreed but the women has an extra burden. I guess there isn't a compelling reason why the man should make up the difference it could be tax payers. But someone should.
/r/MensRights12/06/18 01:01 AM

I agree except the opt-in. Women have the burden of pregnancy it wouldn't be fair for a man to simply opt out of that situation that they created together. Legally it might make more sense to prove that the man was using protection then allow full opt out. I absolutely disagree that a man should pay child support for 18 years though.

Trying to have open discussion about abortion and rights: I'm still not sure how I feel about this. If I were to create an argument for advocating for abortion even though it provides women with more rights I'd say women also have more burden or responsibilities. The biological fact is that women control the body used to create a baby so they already have an extra burden men don't. I can see it being reasonable then to give them more rights to offset that. Furthermore, how else can we equalize t…

Unfortunately I think it's worse than that. It's not so much that they collectively decided that debate was a bad option it's more like they found that "activism" is what they prefer. We're over here trying to have a discussion and they are protesting at universities saying we are nazis.

See? Exactly what I mean, the immediate need to downplay a specific male experience in favor of women, when there's no need to do so. I only did that to illustrate their thought process not to advocate for that. And it's something I heavily agree with this subreddit even though in some areas women have it worse there is very little reason to treat it like they are oppressed. As someone who is liberal but like most on this subreddit I think that 3rd wave feminism has some issues I think there are some reasons to indicate that women are disadvantaged. Ultimately, they should have extra health care because there are complete different biologically and those differences have greater needs. That being said more men die from prostate cancer so cancer really shouldn't be a gendered issue. Women do face a lot of harassment and due to societal norms they face prejudicial tre…

Imho, as an Ontarian about to vote. I'm still voting NDP because this is only one small issue with an otherwise decent platform. This is exactly what I dislike about modern feminism though it's become a staple of liberal politics with no logic or thought behind it. It's basically just pandering. He raises some good points but several times he argues that the movie is too focused on advocating for Men's Rights instead of presenting arguments against. Seems like that's sort of the point? I wondered the same thing I imagine it could simply be that affecting the release or attachment of an egg is easier but stopping sperm production is hard? Also women must have had tons of research in their favour due to labour so I imagine some of that research helps teach us about birth control.
/r/MensRights21/04/18 04:06 AM

Really? Maybe I'm still new to this but it actually feels more rooted in stereotype. Ex. guy walking around at night with a hoodie = rapist guy who likes children = pedophile Then they try there hardest to use emotional arguments and bad statistics to prove their bias.

I suppose that's true however what's more fair to base your choice on race and sexuality or on the quality of work? The problem isn't "women are taking mens places" it's "women are elevated for no reason other than they are not men". What I mean to say is that you'll find each groups compromises of members of various beliefs which could be arranged from reasonable to radical. I think it's reasonable for to say that feminism is no longer a set of unifying principles, you can be feminist and disregard many of the modern notions of justice they preach. It's quite the loose definition and so they have a huge variety of members.

Well it's not messing with their life necessarily one possible solution is having more opportunities for people to try things they wouldn't normally.
