I’m in a similar position as you, having self-harm scars from many years ago. Also like you, it’s not something I’ve struggled with for a very long time, so it’s not something I think about often. Also, mine are on my leg, so it doesn’t come up until much later in a relationship. But when I told my current HV boyfriend about it, he listened well and was very kind, but did not pry further or make a big deal out of it at all. I just explained the I used to self-injure to deal with pain brought on …

Your post nearly made me happy cry for you. This kind of genuine care for a partner is what you deserve and gives me hope. I hope you recover well!

In the past when I was using OLD, I found talking to multiple people exhausting too. However, almost any man can put out “green flags” while you’re just talking online. This shouldn’t even be a minimum standard. No man you’re just talking to online should ever be given the term extremely high value. You’re giving him way too much credit and have no idea how HV he is sis. The fact that so many men can out themselves as NV/LV during this process is astounding (although I guess women should be than…

Definitely a red flag. My first relationship NVM ex who would not bike ride or run with me and gave the excuse that he “wouldn’t be able to get in a good workout”. Same dude who also wouldn’t go to the gym at the same time as me because he “didn’t want to have to worry about me if he wanted to leave or stay longer”... it will come as a shock to no one that this same male was abusive and treated me horribly until I realized I didn’t have to put up with it and left. As women, we would never show t…

Girl, you wouldn’t be asking the question if it wasn’t bothering you. You probably know that you deserve so much better than this (because you do). This grown ass man is taking advantage of you and knows it. Given your age (and knowing my experience at 19) I wouldn’t assume the sex is as good as you think it is sis. From what you’ve said, this man doesn’t care about you. Maybe he’s attractive and skilled (maybe even generous) but sex with someone who genuinely cares about you will be so much bet…

I in no way want to encourage you to continue things with a LVM if this is one. If you end up paying for the hotel, while he just pays for dinner, which honestly is the absolute minimum you should expect on your birthday or any date, it’s probably time to go. I mean I’d imagine that if he wasn’t there, your bestie/her bf would pay for your dinner...so what value is he adding to you at that point. I mean I don’t make a ton of money but have spent much more on friends’ birthdays than it sounds lik…

Oops, so sorry! Should have said “encourages women not to push their cheating husbands away”. Just fixed it! And yes, that really is the biggest lie. You can’t be pretty enough, cool girl enough, sexy enough, supportive enough, or fill in the blank enough. That’s not what causes them to cheat. So sorry for your experience.

I was turned onto marriage helper by my ex-husband’s parents when they found out he was cheating on me. I was in my pick me days and wanted to do everything in the world to get him to stay and make our marriage work. (I feel sick thinking about this now, but at least I’ve seriously leveled up since then). Anyway, my former in laws began telling me things like “people only cheat if there’s something they’re missing in the relationship” and recommended this site for help. My swamp creature ex who …

Wow. Thank you so much. I really needed this. I’ve been struggling with this exact thing in my new relationship...not wanting to seem uptight or too intense (when I’m neither of those things I reality). But my anxiety over not knowing quite where we stand or where we’re going has been becoming worse and worse. This is exactly the advice I needed. Now that I have my head on straighter, it’s time to have an overdue conversation.

100% agree!!! He’s not even trying to make it seem like actual research...where’s the consent form, contact info, how you’ll be able to see published research, what course is it even supposedly for?? Omg...scrotes be scrotin’. Such obvious incel and not even bright/educated...just yikes.

That is honestly so rude and shows no respect for your time. Also shows how little he cares to think about things from your point of view. Block and delete. If we don’t collectively teach men we are not accepting their crumbs, who will? Edit: I was so huffy on your behalf that I forgot to write it, but I’m so sorry this happened to you. That sucks and you obviously deserve substantially better.

Sis, I’m so sorry, that must have been so hurtful to hear. I just turned 30 a couple of weeks ago and know that this birthday is kind of a big deal. I would have been so hurt if my boyfriend suggested 50/50 on my birthday. Not because of the money, but the thought behind it. No. Just no. That lack of generosity and lack of wanting to celebrate and treat you is not ok. You can do so much better. Next.

I’d risk a female friend becoming angry at me. I see no reason that we should ever allow a man to continue in lying to and cheating on our sisters. She can do what she wants with the information, but she has the right to know. Don’t cover (even by omission) for a man ever.

First of all, I’m so sorry for any hateful comments you got about your post....I honestly didn’t scroll through to read them, but it makes me sad that ladies on this sub would attack you based on your post (or for any reason really). I feel like I really relate to what your shared, especially about not being totally conventionally “feminine” (i.e. being comfortable with what you look like as a normal woman and enjoying some traditionally more “masculine” interests). So firstly, I feel like the i…

I really relate to your situation, where oftentimes if I want to do something I enjoy, I’ll probably have to do it alone. I feel like my comfort depends on the activity like some other ladies have said. I feel really at ease doing active things like biking, running, hiking, yoga, etc. I also feel comfy going to cafes, museums, musicals, to the movies, and shopping. I’ve seen live music alone and have really enjoyed that, but I was nervous about running into people I kind of know and feeling weir…

I’m so sorry you went through this. I went through something so similar/ husband used therapy to make me look crazy while he looked like the good guy who was trying...came to find out later he was cheating on me the whole time he “had both feet in the circle” during our counseling. It’s just another way to gaslight for some men...be careful in choosing a therapist.

I respect this so much. You’re honestly amazing and inspiring. This is what I want for myself, but it goes against so many years of programming (that my life will start when I’m in a good relationship) that it feels impossible to start. I’ve had a failed marriage now and several other pretty unhealthy relationships and I’m ready to just focus on me and what I want. Men have pretty much just taken from me, giving me almost nothing in return. Can I ask what steps you’ve started to take to build th…

This is truly heartbreaking. I hope this poor woman has good friends and family who will speak out about what an unforgivable thing he did to her. How can he stand to even stay in her presence after doing something so horrible to her? I hope every woman he ever attempts to date somehow finds out about this tantrum and runs.

Thank you for sharing your amazing story. I’m so sorry for the loss of your son. You are truly a strong woman and I appreciate you sharing about your journey. I know I don’t know you at all, but I feel so excited for all the good things that life has for you next!

You are a strong woman who knows what’s best for her. I know how difficult ending a relationship can be and there’s no way around the pain you will feel over it. However, I really feel that the anxious and excruciating pain you’re feeling will start to subside after you’ve ended things. Maybe write down your reasons for ending the relationship ahead of time so that you can refer back to them in the first days/weeks after the break up. I think that even though it doesn’t feel like it now, you wil…

Ugh need this so much right now. That’s such a clear way to think about it. I feel like things can get so complicated (sometimes because men do this on purpose). But the idea of, “Doesn’t feel good to you? Then it’s a nope.” So clear.

Thank you for your response. It’s hard coming to terms with the idea that he might not be a HMV like I’d really thought. He didn’t pressure me for a long time in our relationship, so I’m not sure if it’s the stress of everything or true colors coming out, but it’s unsettling either way.
