I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that his parents raised him to save his own money while providing everything for him. Really common among people who have money but no class, not seeing the big picture like that. He's looking for someone who will play mommy to him in the absolute worst way.

I would imagine that the guys saying this see it as a hookup app rather than as a dating app. You know, the same guys who will breadcrumb you and use PUA strategies specifically to get women to believe in a fantasy relationship they're not actually in, and then say "what do you expect from Tinder?"

Whether consciously or not, they mean they're looking for someone who wants to be thought of as smart and is at least a bit insecure about it. Guys who are actually into smart women speak about it differently.

What he's doing when he says this is, quite simply, trying to put you on the defensive. He's both testing and grooming you for manipulation. You're right, there's almost nobody who is truly humorless. But he doesn't want you to think about that. He wants you to think, well, of course I have a sense of humor, but to know subconsciously that he's looking out for the lack thereof as a reason to reject you. This primes you to look at the situation as, "he picked me for my sense of humor, and he migh…

An apology without changed behavior is just manipulation. This guy has no respect for you at all. And talking about how you're "so chilled" is also manipulation. He's trying to push you into attempting to be consistent with a "positive" image he's made of you.

In what world does a shameless and pathetic pity play count as flirting? Y'all thinking it does should really think about what goes into that. Flirting is supposed to be something that lifts each other up, not just LVM trying to manipulate women's nurturing instinct in order to control our behavior.

Nothing about this is good. It sounds like she's using porn addiction as an escape from an unhealthy relationship with a guy she shouldn't be with in the first place.

Not all sociopaths are malignant. But that's a clear "Hey! I resemble that remark!" from them, as far as I can tell.

Such a great book. One of the things that a lot of people don't think about is that if they're the type of person that is targeted by sociopaths, they can start to act like one by suppressing their own conscience. We become who we surround ourselves with. Unfortunately, for many reasons, sociopathic behavior is completely normalized in many communities. And you can bet that they'll often try to replicate their behavior in others, as long as it leads to an increase in their advantage. Everyone sh…

This is what we call “financial abuse.” This is the kind of guy who will pressure her into splitting everything down to the damn penny, combined with expecting her to do the domestic work in order to show her gratitude for his “nice” $1800 apartment.

You can tell he's sketchy just from this tweet. Sure, he's saying things that we want to hear. But he's doing it in a way to create a hierarchy between himself and other men. It's entirely about the game, not caring about women or holding other guys to a higher standard.

You can't get personal with guys without them seeing it as flirting. You can have shared hobbies, or be colleagues, but the moment you start opening up to them about personal matters or being their emotional support in any way that isn't specifically goal oriented, that means you're establishing mutual vulnerability. That's something reserved for family or potential family.

He's trying to make you insecure and get you into a people-pleasing mindset in order to control you. This is an attempt to groom you for further mistreatment. Never tolerate that. ETA: It's also an attempt to put you into the mindset of competing with other women. So many red flags.

I think it's worth distinguishing between men who say they "always wanted kids" and men who say they "always wanted kids [after a certain career milestone that will give them a good quality of life]" or that kind of thing. But a HVM knows his priorities and will own up to having other ones.

He's so performative. Tells on himself with that last tweet. I assume he will then slide into their DMs and play the woke signaling game to get pickmeisha nudes. If he were for real, it wouldn't be about getting him inbound attention like that.

That's a great idea! I was originally thinking of going to my women in security contacts as well as seeing if I could get a warm intro to Rihanna through my music industry contacts. The thing I worry about with programs like that is leaving too much of a paper trail. But I can think of legal entity structures that might mitigate that. So I'll see what my counsel says once I get the first seed funding from people who are personally invested in the cause.

I don’t know a single woman in cybersecurity who wasn’t inspired by either needing it or seeing someone else need it. More devices and more complex software means more potential for vulnerability. I’m really looking forward to when Tall Poppy is released to the public. My friend is one of their early investors and it’s got a lot of backing in the women-in-hacking community. I want people to steal this idea. Edit: Aww, thanks for the award! It’s true, though. I’d love for this to inspire others to go out and do similar projects. Find ways to incorporate support into as many hidden places in society as possible. Make sure victims know that instead of being judged, they have somewhere safe to go.

I want to build an app to help domestic violence victims get help while hiding it from their abusers. Like a game that has a hidden mode that allows friends to check in, donations to a fuck-off fund, that kind of thing, but hides it all under cute graphics and scripted game interactions. Whispernet based referral only for that account tier, but the game is open to everyone so it’s not suspicious. And I want her to invest.

In general, open is an established couple that hooks up with people, versus poly being about multiple full on relationships. Not that either one is worth it, lol. But it's probably worth knowing, I've known LV people who massively pressure their targets with "oh, it's not just about fucking other people, you just don't know what poly is really about, love is unlimited, I already feel entitled to your affection even though you're skeeved out by me," and sometimes they lean heavily on coercion and…

I had specific things I was trying to accomplish to support my life, mainly having to do with the fact that a man once told me “I don’t know if I can afford you, but we probably both can together,” but all I really encountered was abusive culture and LV bullshit. Not really that exciting. She texted and left him a missed call, the text just said that she got a concussion. That was enough to get him to text back and make sure she was safe. Once he answered, she started telling him a sob story about it happening a week ago. It took me personally far too long to realize that people who didn't seem toxic on the surface, but tolerated shitty behavior, would not just expose me to the most toxic people but would then pressure me to tolerate things that were simply unacceptable. I read this book called The Kiss Quotient that stood out. It was a gender-swapped Pretty Woman with an autistic lady protagonist. She hired a male escort to try to get over her issues being touched so she could try to have a "real" relationship involving sex. He was tired of being pursued by his clients and found fulfillment in actually pursuing her for once. Her autism was actually a pretty interesting stand-in for making some FDS type things more acceptable to the reader. She was very innocent…

Not everybody does well with therapy. I don't. I found it to be an infinite parade of nothing but admonitions to stop second guessing myself, so I quit looking for external validation from therapy, stopped second guessing myself, and started surrounding myself with people who shared my values. That fixed everything, pending my ability to finish completely removing "undesirables" who act against those values. People come from different norms. They have different defaults. Spending six months without even finding out some of the most basic things that make a woman he's dating feel loved? That is a LV default. It doesn't matter what the love languages involved are, he didn't bother learning hers for a whole six months. The only excuse he really has is if she behaved like a total pickmeisha and acted enthusiastic about his lack of the kind of affection she needed. She shouldn't be telling him it makes h…

It would take a 15-second conversation with a real HVM to fix this issue immediately. And even then, I'd be sketched out that he has not bothered to figure that out on his own. He might have come from different norms but that doesn't exempt him from figuring out how to make you feel cared for. Which he should have been doing the whole time, regardless of whether he loves you yet or not.

If you're in an area where calling the cops would be an issue, you can always get a couple large guys you trust to show up and make sure he leaves (with ZERO contact between you and the ex, of course). But don't let him speak a damn word to you. He clearly doesn't deserve it.

The only way I've seen poly work is in female led relationships, where a group of men is specifically working to provide for an equal or smaller number of women. The mid stage of FDS where we are seeing multiple men before there is a solid commitment is an example of this in action. It's not like it doesn't help them, either. Watch out for when people ask questions that way, implying that there's definitely a right answer as opposed to genuinely trying to confirm something they have reason to think is true. Huge yellow flag for coercive and entitled behavior. Unless you had previous dates at 7, even that small assumption is pretty sketchy. If you really "just click" with someone, that will still be the case when you take things at a healthy pace. In fact, it's a reason to take your time. My script for this is: Find a way to apologize for it without calling myself "too much." This could be something like, "Sorry if I don't text as much as I did the other day, I was waiting at the pharmacy and forgot my book." Or "My roommate insisted we watch a movie I don't like every night this week and I was bored, but I'm usually way too busy to text after dinner." Set expectations that it was nonstandard, then don't do it again. This implies that I had a short streak of increased availabilit…

Don't forget that you will never rebound out of a bad relationship into a HVM. If you think you do, 99%+ chance it's lovebombing. A HVM will wait for you to heal. He will be attentive enough to be able to tell whether you need friendship or space, then will respectfully make his move when he has reason to believe you're ready. The surest way to attract a HVM after a bad relationship is to fully heal and get back to being aligned with your inner self. That's when you shine the most. Eta: I forgot…

Block those people early and often. You won't regret it. Hold your community to a higher standard and they will stop driving away higher quality audience. Which I guarantee you they are. Some of your other followers are over there wondering why you tolerate it and what that says about you. Part of running a social profile for an audience is that getting rid of assholes isn't an ego thing, it's also to protect your followers from having to deal with that.

Watch out for toxic people around them, too. Some malignant narcissists collect flying monkeys that they "support" in developing toxic and controlling relationships, insulating themselves from direct blame. ETA: That's why I had to learn my lesson twice instead of just once. The second narcissist was a girl who inserted herself into all my connections and manipulated them into crazymaking behaviors in order to attempt to project her toxicity onto me. It was sincerely absurd.

I knew she was a Pickmeisha. But I've been out of touch with her, was shocked by the extent of where it went, and am concerned for her well-being now that I heard the news. This is probably not an appropriate time to talk shit, and appending "not to be harsh" doesn't really change that. The expected outcome was that it wasn't my responsibility to save her because I don't try to control people. Now that this has happened, it's the appropriate time to make sure she has access to support.

Yeah. Fuck. I met this friend during the time I was learning my lesson about having batshit narcissist girlfriends (not her), and when I healed my shit and got my boundaries back in order, I kinda left her behind. Giving explanations does more harm than good. They can look at basic norms of respect, integrity, and human decency for their explanations. If those are all being fulfilled, then they can just accept that things didn't work out. There doesn't have to be a reason. Why would anyone want to go around projecting their ex's needs onto their next, anyway? Look at the entire "nice guy" movement who latched onto our explanations of why we were dissatisfied with relationship norms and decided that trying…

It's not abusive on either side unless it's part of some kind of breadcrumbing or push-pull coercive bullshit. Even HVM can sometimes have been burned by desperate pickmes reacting poorly if they didn't just ghost prior to making any real commitments. But it's something we definitely shouldn't tolerate from someone and then keep going back to them for more. That's a great way to end up in a relationship that actually ends up turning into a LV match made in hell, or even abusive. It's also someth…

It might be worth being aware that the underlying basis of the conservative position isn't "if you pick a good man, you'll be safe from the bad ones." It's more like "if we set the bar that low, men will think they're all entitled to our attention without work." Which isn't wrong. Every life and relationship philosophy can be corrupted into its own LVM/Pickmeisha dynamic, no matter what truth is underneath it.

What a great way of putting it. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. It’s the core of what’s taught in a number of elite philosophies. But people get caught up focusing on the specific behaviors, instead of thinking about the reasoning behind it.

Therapists are valuable, but the most important thing I've seen for the most people has been finding not one, but three sources of support: 1 - The friends who don't even know about your issues and only get to see you at your best. These are your acquaintances or broader community that you have good times with but don't feel the need to open up to. These people remind you how the world responds to your best self. But if you focus too hard on this group, you won't feel seen or supported. 2 - The …

There was no purpose to the overall story of mentioning she's the breadwinner. Controlled recreation of traumatic conditions is a valid category of therapy - but it works by being guided and safe with a trusted professional, not by subjecting yourself to the same situation with only marginally more control!!
