If I may ask, why were the chips stacked against you?

Thanks! I need to show the court that she is capable of making an income. Even though she doesn’t claim any of it, she has several online stores and she’s bought a ton of merchandise (community property)

That’s great! Now wish me luck!

A year ago I point-blank asked my wife if we were ever going to have sex again. She made a face like I had just fed her sour milk. That’s when I knew we were done. I can’t live with a person that doesn’t want to live with me.

Grey rock. Even that petty shit can fuck you up. I’m so paranoid of her documenting everything I do to use against me that I’m looking for hidden cameras (which wouldn’t be allowed as evidence anyway, but I’m still paranoid)

Plus the length of the marriage being over 20 years. I’ve been obsessively researching for ways to win this thing. My Temp Orders state 50/50 custody and a complete 50/50 on finances. I’m sure it won’t go that way, but that’s the current card I’m playing. She will have limited time to put together a counter Temp Orders which I’m hoping will give me an advantage. I’m sure she’s going to find an asshole lawyer tho

I’m in AZ. There’s a calculator online that shows how much you’re likely to pay and for how long. ChatGPT is telling me it will be a lot less for a shorter period. Don’t know what to believe, but I’m going to do the best I can to make it as little as possible

I don’t want to go to war either. Christmas was hard this year knowing we would never have a Christmas like that again. It feels horrible to treat her like this.

ChatGPT has been extremely helpful for me. I ask it endless questions. In my case, it recommended I file first and immediately file Temp Orders. It even helped me narrow down my choice of lawyer.

That was sarcasm btw

Thanks man. The thing with war is that both sides want to win. I know she would watch me burn.

Yes. That’s exactly my problem. Has nothing to do with the last few years and her contributions. Let me just be warmer and everything else will fall back into place.

Yes get at least 4 consultations with lawyers. You will see there is a difference in who is there to get paid and who is going to fight. Lots of variables so you need help. It is like grieving a death. You’ll go through the different stages of grief and it will take some time.

Thank you for the advice. I’ve been preparing for the worst and keeping my fingers crossed that I make it out alive.

Right? I’m cohabitating with her, and the tension in the house is ridiculous. Everything I say or do can be used against me in a court of law. I would want us to be friendly with each other after the divorce for the sake of the kids, but I don’t think I can ever be myself around her again.

Maricopa county here. I haven’t started yet, just filed a couple weeks ago. I had about 5 consultations before picking my lawyer. I’m fighting for 50/50 and an equal split. I was told I have a strong position but it’s posts like these that freak me out. Best of luck for all of us.

I filed the day before Thanksgiving but I’m not serving her until mid-January. I want to try to normalize this last Christmas as best as I can for my four kids. But it’s hard for a lot of reasons. Mainly I’m still grieving the marriage while on the other hand I can’t stand living with her. It’s got to be all about the kids. I think you should fight for yourself. It’s not healthy feeling the victim and rolling over. Be a strong Dad and fight for not only your rights as a parent but also the thing…

Still the mother of my children is right. Why I feel guilty for the strategy. But what is the alternative? She is going to fight with all her energy to try to win as much as possible. I know she will. I’m hoping I’m proactive enough to protect myself.

Yes. The strategy is she won’t have time to organize the paperwork to counter the petition

Totally get that different states handle this differently, but Arizona family court doesn’t work the way you’re describing. Temporary orders here follow Rule 47, not civil procedure, so there’s no long briefing schedule or back-and-forth filings. The judge sets the hearing date, and service just has to be at least 3 days before. Ten days is actually more than required. AZ is also a big 50/50 state. Can’t a guy be optimistic?

For those that are asking, the state requires at least 3 days of disclosure before an Order of Appearance. We are doing 10 days in case it takes a couple days to get her served. A lot of the comments are a little harsh. I’ve been in this Reddit forum to see how guys get fucked in these things, and I don’t want to get fucked. So an aggressive approach seems like the most obvious. I am the sole breadwinner and know I won’t walk away unscathed financially. Hell, I don’t know how I’m going to surviv…
