you're crushing dad life my dude, keep it up those are some lucky kids

No. I married a fun, happy woman who loved me. Even two years before separation she was the person I wanted to spend my life with. After she mentioned a possible split to her friends and family, she got talked into being a hero for leaving me. It was a trainwreck waiting to happen that just needed the right spark. I did not divorce the same person I married. That woman is gone forever.

I was a stay-at-home dad 7 years. My own attorney never even hinted that I should seek child support or alimony. That is the beauty of no fault divorce.

It can be a very satisfying day.... People who seek refuge in the arms of someone else too fast tend to have all of the pain of the in-between months crash on them all at once. It's sadistically satisfying to see them crash and burn after seeming happy while you struggle....

Stand in the doorway, make sure your cameras in your house are recording (You have those already, right?) and call the police to report trespassing and petty theft. They won't show up, but there will be a record.

Fuck that, I used our crockpot more than she did and I needed it more than ever. No amount of pushing to get me to cave would ever work. I feel like more men in here could benefit from stubborn pettiness to stop hemorrhaging possessions during divorce. They just get nagged away when you can push back HARD on little stuff, because courts don't want to hear about it.

Bro focus on your kids, not a woman. That makes it easier for people to think that you're focused on your kids and not a woman.

You're right that there is a distinction. My point was that it's less of a deal-breaker in some areas than others, and recently-divorced people is definitely one of them.

Have you looked around this and the main divorce sub? It's much more of a gray area for people in this arena.

Life isn't fair, and one of the ways you can tell is how men and women are treated after a breakup or divorce. A woman with a sob story is virtually never questioned, even though we all know the rate of those being 99% horseshit is through the roof. Honesty and integrity don't hold up to cultural criticism and gender roles. Sorry. You're just getting screwed. Welcome to the club.
/r/Divorce_Men17/04/23 09:14 PM

Everyone else is right. Stop thinking about your ex, as rapidly as possible. We all know 100% that this is impossible advice to fully take, just keep in mind that there is a reason we all say it. You absolutely cannot forget the woman you loved so recently and gave your life to, but you have to. Fast. All of your attention should be on yourself and your kids. That's the only right move. Also, dating won't help. Please trust us on that. Don't chase that cheap gratification. It leads to more pain.

I'm aware, I did it for one myself. I don't think anyone will criticize how hard it is, we know it's a buttload of work. That's just a touchy word for fathers these days.

Damn I feel bad for those kids on both sides, to be honest. It is 2023. There are men here who have fought like wild dogs to get more time with their children. You are not going to get far calling it baby-sitting, my man.

No big deal, she just wanted to fuck other guys, not care for our kids, spend free time with drug and booze buddies, and walk away without consequences. That's pretty normal. I agreed to everything she asked for. Why do you ask?

Get a lawyer, stop thinking about "fair" because she won't (and you won't notice until it's too late), change passwords, protect paperwork and money. There is a reason everyone gives advice like this.

I genuinely don't understand why guys leave the house. She cheated, she went nuts, she committed a felony. Why are you leaving? Get that psycho out of your home. Never leave. This should be printed on marriage certificates so young men know before it's too late.

I've been reading stories on here for months. You're one of the better ones, my dude. You absolutely have this in your grasp. Control of a man's life isn't always easy to get, but yours is there for the taking. I'm glad you decided to post here.

Hey, look at my man crushing it! You know you're gonna be okay in the long run. You're one of the better cases on this sub. A little patience is easier to find than a whole new worldview like some of us. I have faith in you, guy.

Agree with the other guys, this is a timing issue. You may not be actually ready to start dating yet, much less give up on it. Desire is not preparedness, my dude. It sucks but reality sucks sometimes. You need time.

I hope for your sake that you took that physical paperwork and locked it away in another location as soon as you posted this. She can legally keep legal documents away from you for MONTHS with no recourse, even when the court demands you file account numbers or taxes or leases or mortgages. In any divorce, the faster that it sinks in she is an enemy and not a reasonable former partner, the better off you will be. Go get your kid. That should be first. She wants to leave, she can leave. No law in the entire country says she has any more right to your kid than you.
/r/Divorce_Men03/12/22 09:35 PM

If she wants to split, she's welcome to leave the house. She has no more right to take the kids than you do. Don't let any of it go.

Document, keep track, write down, make a spreadsheet, hide paperwork away in a safe place. There is a VERY GOOD REASON we all always say that. The instant things turn, you are going to find a book written about you in the worst way, and all your legal paperwork that the court demands will be mysteriously missing. Even if you're able to recover this marriage, you have to protect yourself BEFORE you know for sure. If you wait, it will be too late.

No one texted, no FB messages, nothing from parents or siblings or friends. Nothing from separated wife. It was just an empty day. And if felt fucking awful.

Men don't have to leave. I'm living in my house with my son. Wives can leave if they want.
/r/Divorce_Men11/11/22 06:13 PM
2

So, I'm a man who got a temporary custody order in my favor. You think that still has weight for maybe making it permanent?
/r/Divorce_Men10/11/22 07:59 PM
3

Same boat for me. Wife moved out, filed for everything, got nothing at first hearing. Now she's trying to drum up new claims without evidence. My plan is just to win the trial and let her figure out her own life. Maybe years down the road she can get 50/50 custody if she wants to be a real mother.
/r/Divorce_Men31/10/22 07:24 PM

Jesus, I feel this one. My boy's mom han't participated in a part of my son's life that can't be advertised on FB for years now. Our whole summer this year was even less, all the pictures of baseball games and fishing and car races and petting zoos is just him and me. Some people just aren't vested in being a good parent, but have to look the part anyway.
/r/Divorce_Men28/10/22 08:33 PM

Track it EXQUISITELY. Lawyers and courts love when they have evidence and easy columns to fill in for asset division. You will get compensated if you have some reasonable evidence, yes.
/r/Divorce_Men14/10/22 10:12 PM
5

I got one of those too. Basically it just means that as long as you have plenty of other money, don't sell a car etc. But if you need to sell something to pay your lawyer or for food, the courts usually waive it. Check with your attorney.
/r/Divorce_Men14/10/22 12:56 AM
3

How many fake assault charges have you had to have dropped yet? 2 What about false protective orders? 1 And I fought like a rabid lion against all the other bullshit, too. I prioritized my kid over everything else in life, and that's why he lives with me at home. If he didn't, nothing in the universe would slow me down from earning him back. I put paramour provisions in the custody agreement. I recorded every call and installed cameras early on. I spent days going through social media and texts …

Fuck that. If you can't man up and be a parent to your kids, you deserve to be in the ground. It's supposed to be hard sometimes.
/r/Divorce_Men05/10/22 01:39 PM
2

This thread is depressing as FUCK. Just the title itself makes me instantly think you're a monster, and I can't picture any possible scenario in the universe that would untangle it. Men who abandon their children for any reason whatsoever are not men. Full fucking stop.
/r/Divorce_Men05/10/22 01:07 PM
6

Filing tomorrow is too late, and telling her in six months is too soon. For every scrap of emotion you have in you, sit on it for any plan. Literally everyone here is telling you the same thing for a reason. Don't be a dick. Plan and be cool. Like it's the most important thing in the universe, because it FUCKING IS.
/r/Divorce_Men04/10/22 08:06 AM

You underestimate her hate or her lawyer's skill, you lose your kid and financial standing and all your possessions, and kill yourself. More than 10% of men do this. It's not even a little bit rare.
/r/Divorce_Men03/10/22 07:15 AM

I hope you're right. You should probably prepare for the worst like everyone else.
/r/Divorce_Men03/10/22 05:27 AM

Haven't decided yet. Definitely need to hide them for a while. I have temporary full custody of my son, and he saw that I had taken our engagement photo down. He told me he wanted Momma and Daddy to look happy like this again and not argue. So... another night of biting my lip and holding in tears while I sooth him to sleep. I still don't know. They are the happiest memories of my life, but shared with the person who's hurt my family the most. I don't think there is a right answer.
/r/Divorce_Men03/10/22 01:13 AM

My son says that about his mother, as well. After seeing her prove it time and time again during the divorce process, I've decided to just roll with it. No more bargaining aimed at 50/50. My goal at mediation and litigation is for full physical custody. She can have every other weekend if she manages to improve and show a court she's able to handle that much first. Anything is in my son's best interest, that's the only thing I give a damn about. She can have the cars and 401k.

Congrats! I'm hoping for a similar victory next month, but I expect to get primary custody and child support as well. These are rare stories, my friend.
/r/Divorce_Men01/10/22 10:14 PM

They sure as hell do. I lost the closest four relationships in my life, aside from my son, in the divorce. She told stories that were WILDLY out of left field just to garner sympathy while she spiraled into a haze of booze and drugs. Obviously that makes it impossible for any amicable discussion of furniture and clothing and toys, while she maintains a friend network of deceit, and my son and I are left at home struggling. I should have mentioned, my son lost his two best friends as well in all …
/r/Divorce_Men01/10/22 09:54 PM

Had a best friend who was divorced twice, married thrice. Seemed like she made the right call each time. Then she was the one that set up my wife's affair partner, so clearly my judgement is completely fucked. Maybe human being just suck entirely.
/r/Divorce_Men28/09/22 10:55 PM

A handful of them, about an hour after making my ongoing divorce public. A lot of women out there in their 30s and 40s apparently.
/r/Divorce_Men23/09/22 03:33 PM
2

I did too. I got early custody, at least temporarily, and at least temporary withholding from paramours. That prevents your grandkids from being introduced to affair partners and keeps you grandkid where he should be, at home. The most important thing is that your grandchild is safe and protected. Nothing should ever come before that, including your own personal rage. I hope you've had as much luck as I've had so far.
/r/Divorce_Men23/09/22 09:09 AM

I'm so sorry to say this, but he 100% will, unless he gets a major win early on (such as at a hearing or mediation) and she is willing to find a private agreement to prevent more. Almost every man ever divorced has found out the hard way that brutality and harsh criticisms are how you win things in the legal system. Please remember that. Few of us have won anything without planning to be as cruel as their ex-wives.
/r/Divorce_Men23/09/22 06:16 AM

Buckle up for warfare. Help your son dig out every tiny thing that's ever happened, and make sure to push for things he "doesn't think are a big deal," because she has already done it, and plans to use them with a sob story to go with it. This is going to be brutal. Support that man with everything you've got. This is going to be the worst time in his life for a while.
/r/Divorce_Men23/09/22 05:52 AM

Mostly from the wife moving out and refusing offers for her to see her son while off sailing with her affair partner.
/r/Divorce_Men22/09/22 12:48 AM
13

To be honest? So far, nothing. I can't believe how lucky I've been. I gave up some possessions and money, but I have my boy almost all the time. Protecting him and giving him a good home and education was my entire priority, and I have it so far. I feel like this is a dream, compared to other stories here. I guess I have to credit a quality attorney.
/r/Divorce_Men21/09/22 03:44 AM

I'm in the process of offering every penny I've ever made to get more time with my kid. I would never consider any offer from anyone on Earth that costs me less than all the time with my son I can get.
/r/Divorce_Men20/09/22 07:34 AM

Because life isn't fair and women get a pass in court that men don't. Lean on your attorney to know when you push to expose it and when you can't. They know the spots you can win.
/r/Divorce_Men20/09/22 07:28 AM

Good job my friend. Now hold steady. The "I'm sorry can we talk about it" is coming. It's not real. Stay neutral and firm. Know that every word you say is going to be read in court.
/r/Divorce_Men20/09/22 07:08 AM

This has been in her plans for months, my guy. It's not new or sudden, it's just that no one told you about it. All the things you're about to think, such as "Oh my god, what about...?" she has already planned out and organized This has happened over and over and over again, and we've heard the story hundreds of times. I'm so sorry, bro.

Please be more worried. Different states be damned, a court will not treat you as fairly as you think it should. Hard fucking stop. You can and should expect to get screwed unless you have a very good lawyer.

I alerted my son's mother as to his therapy before he started. I told her when it was not approved by her insurance. I told her I would cover the full cost. That did not stop her from barging into every single session announcing her personal aggressions every time, destroying any attempt for him to have a personal advocate. It did not prevent her from paying her half of his health care while we're under a temporary order. Fight for every inch. If you don't, you will lose it forever. Courts are n…

Let your attorney guide you. I have a six year old that I would give up the moon and stars for. I'm still not going into any mediation without legal input. They know the laws of the state and the expected process of divorce and custody here. That's why I hired them. Trust professionals.
/r/Divorce_Men17/09/22 09:00 AM
14

Yes, absolutely can confirm this. I'm over one month into divorce proceedings, and have tried time and time again to get her involved with my son. She insists over and over again to prioritize her affair partner and dates over extra time with her son. The court views this EXTREMELY poorly, given her argument to have full legal and physical custody, but I dunno. Someone is telling her it's possible despite any legitimate attorney telling her to knock it off. So far the temporary order has my son …

Well, maybe that's the next step for me and my attorney. In the hearing today both parties focused pretty much exclusively on the temporary custody agreement.

It's just for costs to split during separation. The actual monthly child support should be different, I think.
/r/Divorce_Men09/09/22 10:45 PM

Oh. No, not at this time. My wife and I have been moderately successful, and we both come from very comfortable families. Child support has not been a priority. I'm just keeping receipts for the day that comes.
/r/Divorce_Men09/09/22 10:18 PM

It depends. What is CS? This was my first court day.
/r/Divorce_Men09/09/22 10:12 PM

Reality is only what can be proved in court. Live and die by this rule, and you'll be fine. Tell a story without evidence, and you'll be completely and 100% fucked. That is all the input I feel like is useful at your point. I hope you do well.
/r/Divorce_Men09/09/22 04:33 AM

I can't comment here except to point out that any lawyer who has been practicing for more than a year will ABSOLUTELY reply to you when it's needed. The definition of "when it's needed" is not the same for a person having the worst day of their life, as someone who went to school for 12 years to know when that worst day will actually come. Their job is cold. It's unfeeling. It's by necessity. They don't have a choice. They've seen parents try to kill their children and waste fortunes, and your c…

Can confirm, my wife hit me and I stopped her arm, she told everyone she knows that she was a domestic abuse victim. She's a conservative woman who does not take any shit. I would never think of being violent against her, ever. But she did, and guess what the paper said? Now I'm down to a few friends and no brothers left, and I have to work my way back up for several relationships. Go figure.

I guess I need someone to feel sorry for me. This is normal and valid. There's nothing wrong with it. Men during separation rarely get even a few supporters to help them through their emotions, contrasted to women who generally get everyone she knows falling over themselves to help and tell her how great she is. Bad news: This is gonna just straight up suck for a while, homie. You're gonna probably have some thoughts that you should DEFINITELY not tell anyone about. Find someone you can tell the…

Representing one voice as the majority is how news, politics, Reddit, and life work. It's the first and most common manipulation tactic by humans. The vast majority of interesting stories have titles that use a variation of it.

Ender's Game. No, I got that much. He gets jumped in school in a bathroom and decides to put the leader of the group in the hospital with a permanent injury to ensure they never try to jump him again. He actually/accidentally/inadvertently kills said leader. Holy shit! The military brass who run said school let the whole thing happen and hoped that very outcome would come about. Because they need a badass mother fucker like him to lead their fleet to go annihilate an alien threat. Not just win b…

Free speech is also a concept disassociated with the way it is protected and enforced in the United States constitution. As in, the ability to have a dissenting opinion without a culture crushing it through means other than legal prosecution. Which is why banning people from a sub for disagreeing is not illegal, but it is shitty. And calling it shitty is okay.

Please, don't blame it on millennials/the 90's kids. We aren't all like that. That's not how it works, kiddo. Every generation invents some new stupid shit to do (or makes it mainstream) that it has to take credit for. This is probably one of yours. You gotta own it. On the plus side, you'll have some really exciting stupid shit to make fun of 2020s kids for later on.

I was really irritated when the police reform issue became about race. The legal system isn't letting police get away with murder because of gender or race or religion, it's because they're police and over-protected from consequences.

You have any idea how many charities and apps and websites track that registry besides the state? His name will never be googled and not come up with "sex offender" on the first page of results. Those other sites are not obligated to remove his name unless he personally sues them.
