I live in Canada and it's not as bad as people here make it seem. You won't lose your house if your gf moves in. I know a few people that were caught by surprise by this. They moved into the house their gf bought, they weren't put on the deed, and then when the relationship went to shit they were kicked out and weren't entitled to any equity in the house. One of them lived there for 10 years, he was technically a tenant.

But I want to have a good work life balance, that's more valuable to me at this point in my life.
