I think the main form of oppression historically was rich > poor, but women were still below men at any wealth level. Not as far below as feminists might make out, but still below.

Agreed. There is no "hive mind", nor is there a secret inner group pushing a feminist/gay/Jewish/black/etc. "agenda". There are just people, each acting individually or in limited coordination with others, according to their own values and towards their own advantage. When the values/advantages of a large number of people align, they're going to act in similar ways, and that is going to produce action that seems like large-scale coordination.
