congratulations to you - and it sounds like you've handled it with tremendous grace. taking time to reflect and own our imperfections is very helpful in relationships. many kudos to you.

coconut oil is very comedogenic, which means it clogs pores. if you get blackheads, etc, it would not be wise to use coconut oil on your face. additionally, it is a lighter moisturizer on skin and sinks in quickly, and if you have very dry skin, you may need something stronger. in some studies, coconut oil has been shown to increase eyelash growth and length, so you can use it on your eyelashes if you like. coconut oil is also a nice deep conditioner for your hair.

i work hard to manage my thought processes. i'm not perfect, but neither is anyone else, and i can only say it again: i mean what i say and say what i mean. passive-aggressiveness is a peeve of mine and i cannot stand it, so i try to be as clear as possible (thus my responses to you as well to clarify what i am saying).

i feel like words or motivations of mine are being implied where they are not. once again, to be clear, never did i say that my motivation for anything depends on people being grateful. no where did i say that at all. i feel like you inferred that i change my behavior to "bring out" compassion from others - not true. this is simply how i feel i would like to behave. i stand behind my words and mean what i say when i say it. i can wish for things to change, and for people to be more gracious and …

not sure where you picked up that i think people "owe" people anything here. i never said that anyone here owed anyone anything; i just do not agree and think a different communication style could be warranted. i suppose you mention a difference here: i do not think a display of femininity is only for people that you are trying to win favor or affection with. a feminine demeanor does not end at the bedroom for me - it is a way of behaving, thinking, and communicating with people and animals at l…

i understand where some of the bluntness is coming from and agree that it is needed; however, i don't always agree with the delivery. i am very direct (say what i mean and mean what i say) and i also believe in a strong yet kind delivery. i am surprised sometimes at the delivery of some advice here, despite the advice being correct. sometimes i think a more feminine delivery is warranted along with the direct, strong advice. to be clear: a feminine communication style is not coddling. it is a de…

this post was both spot-on and funny at the same time (ketchup packets LOL). it is so interesting how people phrase things... "you deserve..." just strange. celebrating all the wonderful things in our lives and giving gratitude for all our good fortune is one thing - entitlement is a another. these phrases and mindsets are very consumerist-driven. women are more than consumers - we can agree on that, right? it is downright sexist to think that a woman sits in the back because she is less than he…

i agree. my husband prefers that i run our social calendar. i am sure to check with him and his schedule as well as ensure that the activities are in line with him and his needs/wants. that helps. once i stopped because i shared your fear of "leading" him but that was quickly rectified. he was very direct, even slightly annoyed, when i was pestering him to make plans, etc. i have mentioned before that he likes to reduce his decision making so he can put energy into the decisions that matter most…

we are not as lucky as much as our relationship is built by respect and hard work! i am profoundly grateful for my husband's leadership and love. we are fortunate to have one another, for sure. i'm sorry about your part-time job, and i hope you are able to find something that is less stressful for the money.

we cook and make coffee at home for most meals and eat mostly vegetarian/eat less meat for our health and to save money. this was a two-fold decision for our health that helped our budget, too. i buy very few items of clothing or pairs of shoes. only when i need it, for special occasions or when something needs to be replaced. i do a lot of DIY body care + skin care now that i used to pay for. we eat out only once per week, and we take fewer and less expensive vacations and weekend trips. we use…

this is a good point that i didn't mention in my post - my husband has been able to achieve more visibility, better projects, and promotions and bonuses since i've transitioned to SAHW. supporting my husband's career has been a worthy investment in all ways.

i am currently a SAHW. i cook all meals, clean the house, maintain the household, support my husband, take care of my health (workout, etc), and work part time (fulfilling and non-stressful, creative work that i love) about 10-16 hours per week. before this, i had a miscarriage and became very ill, but i just kept working myself to death. i was working 50+ hours per week plus building my own business. however, my husband stepped in and asked me if i would consider taking a leave of absence for m…

i kind of responded similarly to the original post. it is not the purpose of women to marry and have children. it was challenging for me to read past that point because it felt inflammatory and i was working hard to empathize with the original poster. i do feel that part of my passion and purpose is to be a wife and mother, but it is not every person's passion and purpose. we are here to support one another to be our best.

i could understand the anti-date-night view if people are using it in place of intimacy or to patch something else up that requires work. there is a balance of organic and non-organic in our lives that we need to achieve. the routine thing is the big clincher: my husband eats the same breakfast every day, he generally sticks to only a few colors in his wardrobe, he has the same wakeup routine every morning (zen meditation, work out, get ready, etc). when the routine is off, he is completely off.…

i will be the lone voice here: my husband and i have a weekly date night and have had this for most of our 10 year marriage and going strong. it is something my husband values quite a bit, an activity that is part of our routine that belongs solely to us. he likes routine and thrives on it, so i think that is why it works for us. he expects our date night, it's something we agreed to and still do agree to. we both make big efforts on a daily basis but on our date night, we both kick it up a notc…

as an academic, what about exploring writing and research to stay fresh and engage your heart and mind? my best advice is to set up a schedule for yourself, as well as ensure household and food are all taken care of so your husband can focus on his new job. secondly, do take the time to take care of yourself. it is not often that we are able to take brief moments in our lives to truly care for ourselves, and it is imperative to do so. if we are not at our best, we cannot be the best wives, mothe…

the holidays are an exception plus my husband and i traveled for a few weeks during the season, throwing things off. however, this week i am hitting my schedule again: mornings are for myself and home, afternoons are for my writing (professional and otherwise). setting goals and deadlines helps. i have a monthly column due to my editor, but other than that, my deadlines are self-imposed. give yourself a little slack during the holidays, though. it's just how life goes.

living on one income requires some sacrifices; but it absolutely can be done. your lady is fulfilling important roles in our world by taking care of children, taking care of her family, taking care of you. without her love, support, and work, many things would fall apart. i have an education (paid for by scholarships) and i had a full-time+ career for 10 years, which ultimately conflicted with my personal values as well as my goals (and my husband's). i work freelance now and i am fulfilling a r…

No book will help you inspire trust in your husband - it is a deliberate choice on the part of your own heart and mind. I usually don't dole out advice here, but I would make a suggestion for you that has worked for me - when I want to work on something and/or improve myself, especially if it is a concept like trust or grace... I pick that word and I make that my word of the year. I read about that word and concept, I reflect and pray on it, and I try to integrate into my life. Trust is a good o…

Let him take the lead on this - trust that he is resourceful enough to figure it out in the best way possible (and it might not be on your timeline). You are the one who has brought it up, you are the one who is pushing the issue, and he is resisting. This is creating more stress on top of already brewing financial stress. Maybe he is not ready yet with the plan he wants to take - maybe he needs space to figure it out. When he asks you for your input, provide it if you have valuable and supporti…

so many good posts in here and what a great thread to start, stingray. things i say may not be applicable to (general) you, so i don't give much advice. i could go on and on about what makes my man happy, but would it really help you? maybe, if our relationships are similar, or if you and i have the same tastes or look. the holiday weekend had me out and about, cooking up a storm, and enjoying life. however, my introversion clearly needs me to restore, so i have taken today as a rest day. no work, no working out, no yoga. just cleaning a little around the house, doing some laundry, and mostly rest. i am even having my groceries delivered in an hour as i do not seem to have the strength to go outside or drive. i feel exhausted and a bit in pain everywhere. restorative time is best today. tomorrow i will head bac…

all this! who wants to be a mother to their husband?! i am my husband's wife, his lover, his partner. we both take our responsibilities to one another very seriously. working on my SMV is not an issue - this is my responsibility. and his SMV is his. if something changed with my husband, i would not nag - it would mean that something might be wrong and i would ask if he was feeling well enough. it would just be so out of character, i would respond with love, care, and support.

Married ladies/engaged ladies: what did the timeline of your relationship look like? Like dating -> engagement -> marriage? long, shiney hair is associated with health and fertility - so at a basic level is it a sign of femininity. sophia loren, in particular, had long wavey dark hair occasionally. my husband - when we were dating 15 years ago - made it clear that he liked my hair long and wavey (like a victoria's secret model, of course) so i have tried to keep it that way. he is also particular on my color - that it always stays close to my natural color which is dark brown with natural red highlights. i love my ha…

good point. this is important - i NEVER use plant-based meatless meats without my husband's review first. not getting his input first is absolutely manipulative and deceptive and frankly, extremely disrespectful to your husband. i was vegetarian/80% vegan when we met and he asked me out over 15 years ago, so i don't think my situation is the same as yours. additionally, my husband likes my 80% plant based cooking because he is very health conscious. i only cook what my husband likes. i cannot sa…

Anyhow, I'm mostly vegan and only cook what my husband likes so... I have found that Beyond Meat meatless beef crumbles, meatballs, and chicken are a huge hit with him. this is an odd one but my husband's favorite quick meal that i make is a pasta. he asks for it even not on a quick night because he loves it - and it's about 15 minutes from start to finish. it's cold most of the year where we live and this is a healthy, happy, belly-warming one dish meal. i cook a bag of brown rice penne in pot of salted water and drain once it is al dente, per the directions. 8-10 minutes. beautiful post. practicing gratitude, support and love with our partners is the cornerstone of a strong relationship. try not to give your husband grief, or yourself grief, or anyone grief. why tear anyone down? making a conscious effort to be sincere in our support and praise of our partners is important, and it starts when we make a conscious effort with ourselves, too. part of being a good partner is creating a loving environment internally that naturally extends to our husband (although the …

you are doing the hard work! good for you. i enjoy the feeling, too. i can only speak for myself, but i do not feel that i have a "hard life" - i am grateful and privileged for the love, care, and safety in my life. there are difficult things about being human - managing our minds and dealing with the inevitable ups and downs of life come to mind. submitting is an act of letting go, letting yourself be vulnerable. there is a lot to be said for getting comfortable with vulnerability - it is the b…

If you choose to trust a guy, you need to do so 100% or not at all, because half-assing trust will drive you crazy. yes. if you have a man worth submitting to, it is 100/0. the crazy you might feel? it's fear. i think going "all in" makes us feel vulnerable, even with the most trustworthy and strong man. lean into your discomfort, be mindful of where you are, and learn about yourself in the process.

i am an INFJ. INFJ PERSONALITY (“THE ADVOCATE”) The INFJ personality type is very rare, making up less than one percent of the population, but they nonetheless leave their mark on the world. As Diplomats (NF), they have an inborn sense of idealism and morality, but what sets them apart is the accompanying Judging (J) trait – INFJs are not idle dreamers, but people capable of taking concrete steps to realize their goals and make a lasting positive impact.

this book and the movie sound terrible - sounds like it is just hurtful to everyone. (which is why i haven't seen or read it) i wanted to be clear that i was commenting/agreeing on the principle that housewives fulfill a role and ambition of theirs as it is their authentic choice to do so. i do not think RPW or my friend or myself or others are "Stepford wives" - i don't use this hurtful term anyhow.

i agree with you on all points you mentioned (and i am super impressed with your awareness and commitment). you brought up a really interesting issue about gushing over, being awed by, and expressing our admiration for our children versus our man. in some ways, women who gush over their man with great respect and admiration are criticized or held in suspicion. people sometimes make the assumption, perhaps, that a woman that does so has no sense of self or a limited one, but this is not true at a…

i am thrilled for you and your choice! it takes a lot of courage to own your authentic self, especially when we have been socialized to think otherwise. you seem like a wonderful person. do you have children? my husband and i are thinking of having children soon.

i have been in a LTR for 15 years, and i do not feel resentment or disgust at other men. however, sometimes i feel uncomfortable. last night, there was a man that spent a lot of time looking at me and approached me when my man walked away for a minute. everyone has a different approach, but i generally respond with graciousness and a very strong no (maintaining my boundaries and loyalty to my man) if i receive a compliment or something similar. i have not had a problem with this response, and me…

barre will help with your flexibility, certainly. flexibility is not a prerequisite - it is something you will improve with barre.

i'm sorry to hear about your divorce and the affair, but you sound like you have been handling the situation with as much grace as you can. admiration is a big one. i am good with verbalizing this to my husband, and it also helps me to reflect on paper. every morning, i sit down to plan out my day before things get started, and i keep a space in my day planner for gratitude. there are always many things i am grateful for, and my first one is always "my husband's love, leadership, and hard work".…

hi, y'all! i am new to reddit and this sub, although i had been lurking for quite a while. relationship status: married about 10 years (we've been together for about 15). met my husband at university and he asked me to marry him after we both graduated. goals: to keep improving myself and my marriage. i call marriage the "easiest most difficult work i've ever done" - it's easy to love my husband, but the nuts and bolts of our marriage take work. this is where the philosophies of this community s…

this is very pretty and the darker finish goes well with my bedroom set. my white vanity is 20 years old and beat up, and i might put this on my wish list. love that your husband calls it your beauty battle station!

definitely i love barre! it's more intense than classical pilates and is more athletic/strength training than both yoga and pilates. i have done barre since 2011 or so, and i've tried different kinds (pure barre, bar method, dailey method, core fusion). i really does do wonders for your muscles and overall strength - you tone up really quickly! barre is a very efficient workout. edit: megareformer pilates or pilates plus in LA is much more challenging than all of the above and totally different …

happy birthday! love your vanity and all your lovely things. i think i saw a rosary or something like it on your vanity - i have one on mine, too. it's my great-grandmother's from ireland. my husband likes to watch me get ready at my vanity - and when he is watching, i do things a bit differently for him (cannot spoil all my mystery!). dita von teese said it, too - "But there are certain things to be discreet about during the seduction process. Men like to watch you get ready, but I kind of tail…

you are a wise one! you are so right that our men want to hear us, want us to lean on them, want us to let them lead. have you tried meditation to help with your stress? i second the other poster that mentioned mindfulness. mind-training is amazing and will transform your life. :-) lots of love!

this is a beautiful story - thank you for sharing! you seem like a sweet person and your husband sounds wonderful. i love how you honor and respect his wisdom and care, and you also honor your own intuition which said to seek his advice. sometimes i cannot see what i need and want to see - even with my intuition, i also need the wisdom of the person who knows me best: my husband. it helps me make better decisions.

jacqueline kennedy. she exhibited style, poise, grace, beauty, elegance. when i was young, i did a project where i wrote a paper and created art pieces to illustrate all the work she did to rejuvenate the white house interior design. i loved that project.

some good advice here. my husband loves cars and driving fast. i let him know that 1) i trusted him and 2) driving fast made me feel unsafe because other drivers and weather are unpredictable. he really wanted to protect me so he made and still makes a strong effort to drive more safely. however, his habits would get the best of him sometimes. i would be gentle and loving when i would let him know i was feeling unsafe because i trust his judgement and i know how hard he works to lead and care fo…

hello, friend! my husband does have similar eating habits to me. we have about 3 meals per week (2 dinners, 1 breakfast) that include some sort of meat, which is satisfies my husband's omnivorous diet as well as mine. this is why we will both probably always be 90% vegetarian. if you are with an omnivorous partner, you will probably learn to cook with some meat for him so you can balance your dietary choices. it depends on the person. my husband is completely fine with a plant-based omnivorous d…

i am so happy that you have found ways to live and communicate and love that have worked for you, your man, and for your marriage. good on you and good on your husband! like stingray said, life is life. of course it will get challenging again, and then amazing again, and over and over. savor these brilliant moments and approach your life and love every day as a practice or journey. we can only learn and improve and move forward. best to you, always.

i love your goals and would love to hear about your progress as you work on them. i am going more and more vegan these days. i try to keep 80%+ vegan (and 90%+ vegetarian) in my diet these days and it makes me feel so much better physically, spiritually and emotionally. i feel more connected, empathetic, and compassionate. this has also challenged me to try new things in the kitchen! planning meals has gotten even more fun and creative - and my husband loves all the things i'm cooking as well. s…
