Giving the impression of being conversationally intimidating ('look like a social butterfly') is functionally no different from actually being intimidating. The guy's perception is reality. It's also very possible you're way underestimating the extent to which you dominate conversations, but obviously I don't know you so I can't say.

Sounds like you are intimidating guys not by your looks but rather by being more conversationally interesting and funny than they are. I know girls like this with the same problems you're describing. Guys have a gameplan of dominating the conversation, making you laugh at their jokes, and impressing you with their stories. Since your stories and jokes are better, they don't know how to proceed. I don't recommend changing yourself so you can pretend to laugh at some dude's jokes as they fall flat…

TofuTofu's OKCupid guide is really good: http://www.reddit.com/r/OkCupid/comments/jfv7g/my_okc_strategy_or_how_i_hooked_up_with_3_women/ I've had good luck in terms of quality and quantity; currently seeing a really fantastic girl I met there. My success rate turned upwards when (of course) I stopped giving a fuck and started just treating messages and such lightheartedly. Not putting the weight of "omg you're my soulmate here is a 5000-word essay about why" on girls and just offering yourself a…

you said afterward that she said that she finds you very attractive and marked you from day 1 meaning this is a girl that was already actively interested in you Isn't this kind of the point? By assuming attraction, you don't miss out on girls who are interested in you. If he walked around pitying himself and thinking there's no way that girl would want him, he wouldn't have gone from 'hey' to sex in 5 hours.

Yup. The description of the skater kid is longer than the description of the girl in question. He is more pissed that said skater is tapping something and he is not than that the girl is out with someone else.

Not sure we haven't biologically changed -- if almost all girls are on some sort of hormonal regulation pill (for birth control), doesn't that change things? Additionally, by moving marriage/childbirth backwards, there are e.g. 29 year old women available who are biologically different from the 21 year old women who were your limit previously.

I'm getting better, but it's generally something closer to procrastination than outright refusal. I'm trying to think of something better to say, or waiting for her to show more interest, or waiting for a better song to come on, or... Obviously this isn't how you do things. But it's more complicated than simply "oh I'm scared I'll get rejected," the mind has a pretty sophisticated mechanism for disguising that fear as perfectionism.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
